Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Northlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Harwerth, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Borger, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Bailey was born in Maramec, Okla., and had been a Dumas resident since 1947. He graduated from Danville High School in 1929 and attended the University of Illinois from 1929 until 1935. He was employed by the Hegelen Zinc Co., of Danville, Ill., from 1935 until 1947. Mr. Bailey was an Army veteran of World War II, having served from 1941 until 1946 with the 314 Bombing Wing APO 246. He was in the Army Reserve until 1986 when he retired as a lieutenant colonel. He served in Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons, Bismarck Archipelago, western Pacific and in the air offensive against Japan. He received the Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, Asian Pacific Theater Ribbon with one silver battle star and four overseas service bars. In Dumas, Mr. Bailey was assistant superintendent at American Zinc Smelter for eight years until becoming plant superintendent. In 1966, he became plant manager until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineering. Mr. Bailey was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and the Masonic Lodge in Danville. He was one of the original sponsors of the Dumas chapter of Demolays and a Boy Scout volunteer. He served as director and past president of the Dumas Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Rotary Club of Dumas and served as director of the Dumas Industrial Development Board. He was past president of the North Plains Country Club and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He married Helen Lynch in 1937 at Danville. She died in December. Survivors include a son, Gordon Bailey II of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Edith Harder of Escondido, Calif., and Ruth Clodfelder of Hillsboro, Ill.; a grandson; and a great-grandson. The family will be at 116 Chelsea. Joe Frank Clark LUBBOCK - Joe Frank Clark, 62, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Restlawn Memorial Park north of Hereford with Dr. Nathan Stone officiating. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel of Hereford. Mr. Clark was born in Harmon County, Okla. He attended Texas Tech University and was a member of the Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock. He married Sarah Wiley in Lubbock. She preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, Brad Clark and Mike Clark, both of San Antonio; a daughter, Cindy Cooksey of Coppell; two brothers, Wendel Clark of Hereford and Wayne Clark of Dumas; two sisters, Sammie Simpson of Morton and Cleta Winfrey of Lubbock; and six grandchildren. The family will be at 139 N. Texas in Hereford. June Hargesheimer TULIA - June Hargesheimer, 51, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998. No services are planned. Cremation will be by Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Hargesheimer was born in New Mexico and raised in Littlefield where she attended schools. She attended Draughon's Business College in Lubbock. She was a bookkeeper and secretary in Amarillo for several years and also in Oklahoma City. She moved to Kress in 1985 and to Tulia in 1992. She had been a cook for the El Camino Restaurant in Tulia for three years. She married William Hargesheimer in 1974 at Canyon. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Michelle Hargesheimer and Tamera Hargesheimer, both of Tulia; and three sons, Steven Marriott of Plainview, Richard Marriott of Dumas and Randall Hargesheimer of Amarillo. John Roberts BORGER - John Roberts, 82, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Brown Funeral Directors Chapel of the Fountains with Dr. David Jones, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Mr. Roberts was born in Bridgeport and had lived in Borger for 52 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He had been a gas tester for 33 years for Phillips Petroleum Co. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Hatfield of Williamsburg, Va.; friends, Sue Brandvik, Leslie Lovelace and Johnny Wheat; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Dovie Collins DUMAS - Dovie Collins, 68, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Robbie Holcomb, pastor of Bethel Assembly of God Church of Dumas and the Rev. Douglas W. Mrs. Collins was born in Shamrock and had lived in Moore County since 1947. She was a homemaker and a volunteer for Mission American Placement Service, was a member of Gideons Ladies Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and also was involved with the Welcome Wagon. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church where she had been church secretary and a Sunday school teacher for the primary department. She married Bob Collins in 1946 in Pampa. She was preceded in death by a son, David Collins, in 1993. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Chris Collins of Newcastle, Okla., and Larry Collins of Amarillo; a daughter, Gina Hatter of Dumas; her mother, Velma VanStraten of Dumas; a brother, Larry Braly of Longview; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Fisher was born in Tupelo, Miss., and lived in Quanah for most of her life. She was a retired nurse and member of First Baptist Church. She married Ruben E. Fisher in 1919 at Avery. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Eugene. Survivors include a son, Alvin Fisher of Quanah; six grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. The family requests memorials be to Quanah Memorial Hospital Fund. Novella Ruth Vanpool WHEELER - Novella Ruth Vanpool, 87, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Country Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Weatherly officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mrs. Vanpool was born in Kelton and was a resident of Wheeler County all of her life. She graduated from Kelton High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University. In 1939, she graduated from West Texas State University. Mrs. Vanpool taught at Sandy Basin School, Twitty School and Magic City School. She taught in the Wheeler School system for 18 years and retired in 1973. Mrs. Vanpool was a member of Business Women's Club, Progressive Study Club, the Retired Teachers Association and the Texas State Teachers Association. She was a member of the Country Chapel Church. She married A.O. "Bud" Vanpool in 1942 at Wheeler. He died in 1983. Survivors include two sons, Terry Vanpool of Arlington and Bobby Vanpool of Wheeler; a daughter, Becky Garrett of San Antonio; three brothers, Gordon Whitener and Hiram Whitener, both of Wheeler, and Herbert Whitener of Tyler; a sister, Louise Plowman of Garland; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Foster was born in Hutchinson County to a pioneer family. She moved to Stinnett in 1937 from Spearman. She retired after 20 years as a record keeper for an abstract office. She married Ben Foster in 1931 at Guymon, Okla. He died in 1980. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorene Leek, in 1989, and a son, Joe Melvin Foster, in 1931. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Weiser of Ulysses, Kan., and Ernestine Judkins of Amarillo; a sister, Lee Forester of Dalhart; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Morton. She married Horace Gardner in 1951 at Childress. He died in 1987. He married Wilma Van Ausdall in 1963 in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a son, Almer Paul Thomas Jr., in 1964. She was employed as a clerk and a care giver. She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She married Alvin H. Parks in 1957 at Kiowa. She was preceded in death by two stepsons, Alvin Lee and Jerry Parks, and a stepdaughter, Patricia. Cremation services are by Sanders Funeral Home. Mr. Copeland was born in Biloxi, Miss. He graduated from Panhandle High School and studied at Texas Tech University. Mrs. Bell was born in Montague County. She and her husband farmed for nine years in Floyd County then moved to Hale County. In 1945, they moved to Canyon where they lived periodically. She was a member of Sixth Avenue Church of Christ. She married John Bell in 1922 at Petersburg. He died in 1979. Survivors include two daughters, Louise Allen of Cleburn and Juanita Wooten of Canyon; a son, John Bell of Amarillo; a sister, Nell Cross of Canyon; a brother, Raymond Cross of San Diego; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
