Private services will be at Northwest Texas Hospital with the Rev. G.A. Roach, chaplain, officiating. Cremation will be by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Hare was born in Mangum, Okla. She moved to Amarillo in 1991 from Albuquerque, N.M. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was a member of Mangum Chapter No. 114 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She married L.G. Hare in 1928. He died in 1966. She also was preceded in death by a son, Stanley D. Hare, in 1995. Survivors include two sisters, Violet Alsup of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Louise Draper of Blair, Okla.; a brother, Kenneth Craig of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Ruth Mathews Ruth Mathews, 93, of Amarillo, died Thursday, March 5, 1998. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Big Valley Cemetery in Chillicothe with Wallace Clay, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Arrangements were by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Mathews was born in Wolfe City. She lived in the Medicine Mound community until 1968 and in San Antonio from 1968 to 1978. She lived in Dumas from 1978 to 1988. She had lived in Amarillo since 1988. She married Hulen R. Mathews in 1922 at Sunset. He died in 1959. She also was preceded in death by a son, Clyde L. Mathews, in 1984. She was a retired farmer and a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church. She was active in the PTA and the Medicine Mound Home Demonstration Club. She was named Homemaker of 1955 in northwest Texas. Survivors include a son, Glen N. Mathews of San Angelo; a daughter, Ouidon Preston of Amarillo; a brother, Bill R. Hendrix of Nocona; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mr. Kinzy was born in Stringtown, Okla. He graduated from Sunray High School. He served in the Navy as a medic corpsman for four years. Mr. Kinzy had lived in Amarillo for the past 22 years. He had been supervisor for Owens-Corning Fiberglass for 19 years. Prior employment included 11 years as manager for American Security Life Insurance and as supervisor of the City of Dumas gas department. He married Patsy Daniel in 1961. She married Fred Fulton Williams in 1928 at Richland. He died in 1978. She also was preceded in death by a grandson in 1991. He attended New Mexico Military Institute and graduated from Amarillo High School. He was a veteran of World War II with the Army Air Corps. Mr. Bagot's family was associated with Amarillo Hardware Co., and Bagot Hardware. He was a retired rancher. An avid outdoorsman, he was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He married Elna Ruth "Beckie" Beck in 1946 at Amarillo. She died in March, 1995. He then married Betty Jane Elliott Siebel in August 1995 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; four children, Don D. Bagot of Houston, Robert B. Bagot and Richard O. Bagot, both of Amarillo, and Rebecca B. Mrs. Ward was born in Tucumcari and was a long time resident of the area. She was a former resident of El Paso. She married Vestor Robert Ward who died in 1974. He was employed on various farms and was a labor contractor. His first wife, Josefita, died in 1957. He was married to Rosita Martinez in 1972. He was preceded in death by a son, Mike Chavez Jr. Survivors include his wife; a son, George Chavez of Truth or Consequences; three daughters, Sadie Gallegos and Celia Ortega, both of Portales, and Jane Chavez of Moriarty; a sister, Conchita Sisneros of Portales; 27 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Ben F. Hall TAIBAN, N.M. - Ben F. Hall, 77, died Friday, March 6, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner with the Rev. Artie McDowell of Saint John's Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in Blanco Cemetery by Chavez Funeral Home. Mr. Hall was born in Albuquerque and raised in Taiban where he graduated from high school. He attended the University of Wyoming and New Mexico State University. He was a cattle rancher in De Baca County. Mr. Hall was director of work for Scottish Rite Bodies in Santa Fe. He was a 33rd degree Mason, member of Mount Moriah Lodge, Order of Eastern Star in Fort Sumner, and Kappa Sigma. He was past chairman of Eastern Plains Council of Government and chairman of the New Mexico State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee. He served for 12 years as De Baca county commissioner. He was a member of New Mexico Cattle Growers Association, New Mexico Farm and Livestock Association, Texas Longhorn breeders, and past chairman of the De Baca County Republican party. Mr. Hall served for 38 years as chairman of the De Baca General Hospital board. He had been a member of Saint John's Episcopal Church since 1942. He married Frances Brown in 1942 at Clovis. He was preceded in death by a son, Ben Edward Hall, in 1986. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Hall of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Susan Hall of Amarillo and Mary McClain of Taiban. She was a retired home economics teacher, having taught at Kelton High School and Wheeler High School. She also was a retired dietitian for Shamrock Hospital. She was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and a member of First Baptist Church. She married James Nathan Lummus in 1939 at Shamrock. He died in 1965. She also was preceded in death by an infant son. Survivors include three sons, Ronald "Ron" Lummus of Sulphur Springs, Robert Lummus of Hawthorne, Calif., and Rody Lummus of Shamrock; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Borchers of San Antonio; eight grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren. C.S. Smith BRYAN - C.S. "Chile" Smith, 69, died Thursday, March 5, 1998. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Osborne and the Rev. Tim Skaggs officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. in Wortham Cemetery at Wortham. Mr. Smith was born in Lometa. He had lived in Bryan for the past 14 years. He received his bachelor's degree in agricultural education from Texas A&M University in 1953 and his master's degree in 1970. He joined the Navarro County Agricultural Extension Service in 1956. He later worked for Farm Land Industries for 10 years. He also served as a county agent in Childress, Swisher and Polk counties. Mr. Smith retired in 1985, but continued to be active in the 4-H Club. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Smith; a son, John Smith of College Station; a daughter, Carrolyn Bennett of Bryan; five grandchildren; his mother, Roena Smith of Goldwaithe; a brother, Johnny C. Mr. Francy was born near Happy. He graduated from Happy High School and Hill's Business College. He was a farmer and a stockman. He lived in Swisher County for all of his life until moving to Lubbock in 1996. He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Happy. He served as an ASCS commissioner for 61 years. He also served on the Happy School Board, the Grain Sorghum Producers Board, the Wheat Producers Board, the Swisher County Hospital Board and the Soil Conservation Service. Mr. Francy married Jessie Hatcher in 1934 at Pawnee, Okla. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Frances Hunt of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Mary Cato of Lubbock and Ruth Frandsen of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Ferne Patching of Tulia; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Christine Petty MIDLAND - Christine Petty, 93, a former Amarillo resident, died Friday, March 6, 1998. She retired from Sears Roebuck as an interior decorator in 1969 and moved to Midland in 1979. She moved to Georgetown four years ago from Perryton. She married Stephen J. Hoelscher in 1979 at Amarillo. Mr. Jackson was born and raised in Tulia. He worked for Swisher County as a mechanic for two years. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 at Fort Sill, Okla. He was an airplane and auto mechanic at Reese Air Force Base. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Tulia. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Tulia Masonic Lodge. Emilio Nino DIMMITT - Emilio "Pepo" Nino, 76, died Thursday, March 5, 1998. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. today in Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mr. Nino was born in Sabinal. He lived in Whiteface before moving to Dimmitt in 1953. He was employed as a fuel delivery person for Dimmitt Consumers from 1967 until retiring in 1987. He married Refugia Nino in 1943 at San Marcos. She died in 1997. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Emilio Nino Jr. in 1968 and Jose Nino in 1946. Mr. Nino was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Sacred Heartsmen's Group and the Cursillitas Prayer Group. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2654. Carolynn Myers PERRYTON - Carolynn Myers, 48, died Friday, March 6, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Audie McCuistion officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Myers was born in Paragould, Ark. She attended grade school at Calvary Christian School in Indianapolis. She did evangelist work during the summer of 1965 and graduated from Concord High School in Elkhart, Ind., in 1967. She graduated from the Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minn., in 1971. She married the Rev. David E. Myers in 1971 at Ontario, Calif. Mrs. Myers had lived in the Perryton area since 1984, moving from Childress. She was a homemaker. She was an art instructor at Chaffey Community College in Cucamonga, Calif., and conducted art painting classes in Ontario, Calif., and Perryton. She also did floral designing in Childress and Perryton. She was the organist at United Pentecostal Church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Jeremiah Trevino of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, the Rev. Dorian Myers of Perryton; her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Carl Mena of Elkhart; two brothers, the Rev. Daniel Mena of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Samuel Mena of Tilley, New Brunswick; and a granddaughter. Neva Hickey DIMMITT - Neva Hickey, 88, died Friday, March 6, 1998. Mrs. Hickey was born in Lakeview. She lived in Memphis before moving to Dimmitt in 1968. She owned and operated the Village Shop from 1968 to 1988. She married Claude B. Hickey in 1927 at Newlin. He died in 1980. She also was preceded in death by a son, Bill Hickey, in 1988. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Dimmitt Ladies Golf Association and the Senior Citizens Bridge Club. She participated in the Neva Hickey Golf Classic tournaments from 1988 to 1991. Ms. Melear was born on the McIntosh Ranch in Deaf Smith County. She had lived in Bovina for 40 years, moving from Lubbock. She owned and operated a grocery store in Bovina for many years. Mr. Cook was born in Mound Ridge, Kan., and had lived in the Vega area since 1949. He owned and operated the Mobil service station in Vega for 30 years. He also was a school bus driver for 30 years. He was a member of Vega United Methodist Church. Mr. Cook married Nina Warner in 1935 at Galva, Kan. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Virginia Cook in 1955 and Deanna Willeford in 1996. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Warner Cook, Bryce Cook and Jason Cook, all of Vega; a daughter, Patty Jackson of Vega; two brothers, his twin, Warren Cook of Santa Fe and Clayton Cook of Vega; nine grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren. Jean Marguerite Scroggs WAKA - Jean Marguerite Scroggs, 85, died Friday, March 6, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Union Church in Spearman with the Rev. She moved to the area in 1918 with her family in a covered wagon pulled by a team of burros. She graduated from Waka High School. Miss Scroggs was a cafeteria cook and custodian at Waka School for many years. She was elected queen of the Waka Lions Club in 1997. She attended Waka Church of the Brethern. Survivors include 22 nephews, 25 nieces and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Owen Thornton LOCKNEY - Owen Thornton, 81, died Saturday, March 7, 1998. Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home in Lockney. Mr. Thornton was born in Plainview and graduated from Lockney High School. He attended West Texas State College and Texas Tech University. A lifelong resident of Lockney, he was a retired farmer and cattleman. Mr. Thornton was a member of the Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner of the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star in Clovis, N.M. He was a member of Lockney Rotary Club where he served three terms as president. He served on the Lockney Independent School Board for 12 years. He was the director and past president of the Lockney Chamber of Commerce. He served as vice-president of the McKenzie Municipal Water Authority from 1970 until 1966. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and served on every board. He was a past president of Floyd County Fair Board and was a member of the Lockney Cemetery board of directors. He married Kathleen McManigal in 1938 at Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Thornton, in 1956, a granddaughter in 1968, and two greatgrandsons. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ronnie Thornton of Plainview; three daughters, Patricia Killingsworth of Little Rock, Ark., Kathy Kellison of Lockney and Noriko Ono of Ofuna, Japan; a brother, Herman "Shorty" Thornton of Clovis, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. Mr. Catlett was born in Waveland, Ark., and moved to Paducah at the age of 13. He moved to Plainview in 1952. He had been employed by Dennis Dairy and Plainview Independent School District. Mr. Catlett moved to Kress in 1966. He farmed and raised hogs. He was a Baptist. He married Ruby Jewell Catlett in 1952 at Paducah. She died in September 1997. Survivors include two daughters, Jan Catlett of Plainview and Judy Oden of Levelland; a son, Curtis Catlett of Plainview; two brothers, Jack Catlett of Waveland and Don Catlett of Plano; a sister, Pauline Cross of Amarillo; and seven grandchildren. Pauline Hartman WELLINGTON - Pauline Hartman, 86, died Friday, March 6, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Elvis Pitts, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Hartman was born in Powderly and moved to Wellington in 1917 where she attended school. She was a homemaker, a member of Friendship Baptist Church, and was active in the Women's Missionary Union. She married E.H. "Pete" Hartman in 1928 at Wellington. He died in 1984. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Ann Hartman and Virginia Pauline Hartman. Survivors include two sons, Cliff Hartman of Wellington and James Hartman of Lancaster, Calif.; two daughters, Wanda Underdown of Fort Worth and Joy Perigo of Arlington; two sisters, Bernice Lancaster of Wellington and Estelle Thomas of Atwater, Calif; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
