Hicks William C. Hicks, 82, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Norris officiating. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave. Mr. Hicks was born in Lenape, Kan. He was employed as a plumber's laborer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie, earlier this year. He is survived by two sisters, Virginia Hensroth and Jackie Mitchell, both of Amarillo. Lee W. Warf Lee W. Warf, 75, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Coulter with Brock Lovett, second counselor stake presidency, officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum East by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Warf was born in American Falls, Idaho, and graduated from high school in Salmon, Idaho. He attended Duke University. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Warf was retired from the Air Force. In 1976, he moved to Amarillo from May, Idaho. Mr. Warf was a member of the Masons with Palo Duro Lodge No. 1239 and Amarillo Lodge No. 731. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in Lubbock and York Rite in Amarillo where he was past master of Tascosa No. 1375, past district deputy of District No. 122 and recipient of the Golden Trowel Award. He married Barbara J. Bohannon in 1975 at Salmon. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Dianna Lynn Dornfest and Theresa Rose Brinks, both of Boise, Idaho; a brother, LaMoyne Warf of Boise; three sisters, Madell Waetzig of Washington, Utah, Nadene Collister of Pocatello, Idaho, and La Wanna Cummings of Mesa, Ariz.; and a grandson. The body will be available for viewing today after 10 a.m. The family suggests memorials be to Alzheimer's Association Panhandle Chapter. Leon Chambers Leon Chambers, 78, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Chambers was born in Oklahoma. He was a sergeant in the Army during World War II. An Amarillo resident for 45 years, he was a foreman for a lumber company for 36 years. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Chambers; two sons, Leonard Chambers of Lawton, Okla., and Rick Chambers of Amarillo; two daughters, Debbie Moore of Whitehouse and Inez Batt of Phoenix; a sister, Virgie Summers of Lubbock; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Frances Florene Bussard Sherrod Frances Florene Bussard Sherrod of Amarillo died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998. Services are tentatively scheduled for Monday morning with burial Monday afternoon in Higgins. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Sherrod was born and raised in Lipscomb County. She attended elementary school in Shattuck, Okla., and Cotton and graduated from Higgins High School. She received bachelor and masters of science degrees from West Texas A&M University and also received her special education certificate. Mrs. Sherrod taught school for 34 years starting at Glazier during World War II, then at Follett, Dumas and Channing where she and her husband lived for 40 years. She also had her real estate sales and brokers license. Mrs. Sherrod was listed in the World Who's Who of Women. She was a life member of the Texas State Teachers Association and was a member of the National Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and Gamma Xi Chapter of Dumas. She was a member of the Audubon Society, the National Wildlife Association and the International Wildlife Association. Mrs. Sherrod was a member of Holiday Ramblers Club, Senior Citizens, Amarillo Retired Teachers Association and AARP. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Channing where she taught Sunday school. They had lived in Amarillo since their retirement. She married Ky Sherrod in Raton, N.M. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Randall Sherrod of Canyon and Brent Sherrod and Mark Sherrod, both of Amarillo; a brother, B.F. Bussard of Amarillo; a sister, Mildred Mabry of Pampa; and seven grandchildren. New Mexico Lela Miller CLOVIS, N.M. - Lela Miller, 89, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Elida United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donna Kay Jackson and Ronald Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Elida Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Mrs. Miller was born in Weinert, Texas, and spent most of her early life in Oklahoma. She moved with her family to Ralls, Texas, when she was a teen-ager. After her marriage, Mrs. Miller lived in Oklahoma and then moved to Littlefield. They moved to Elida in 1931 and then relocated to a ranch south of Elida where they lived until 1983 when they moved to Portales. Mrs. Miller was active in the Elida Senior Citizens and square dancing groups. She was in numerous fairs and exhibitions where she danced on foot and horseback. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Elida. She married Joe Miller in 1925 at Ralls. He preceded her in death in 1995. Survivors include a brother, Olen Perryman of Lubbock, Texas; and two sisters, Irma Pepper of Estelline, Texas, and Gladys Swim of Ralls. Christine Brake TUCUMCARI - Christine "Chris" Brake, 83, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Bowman, Baptist minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home. Mrs. Brake was born in Honey Grove, Texas and had been a Tucumcari resident since 1965. She retired from Trigg Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. Survivors include six sons, Charles Brake of LaPaz, Mexico, Rusty Brake of Tucumcari, David Brake of Nashville, Tenn., Roy Brake of Denver, Troy Blake of Carlsbad and Johnny Brake of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Rita Sanchez of Albuquerque; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing until time of services Monday at the funeral home. Paul C. Lovato PORTALES, N.M. - Paul C. Lovato, 53, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Church of the Nazarene in Portales with the Rev. Darryl Tennefos officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Lovato was born in Villanueva and moved to Portales in 1946. He lived in Portales since that time. He was a truck driver for Selected Casings and later for Southwest Canners Inc. where he was transportation supervisor for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He married Cecilia B. Marez in 1963 at Clovis. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Tommy J. Lovato of Arlington, Texas, Jeffery Lovato of Portales and William Paul Lovato of Albuquerque; his parents, Rita and Delfino Lovato of Portales; three brothers, Frankie Lovato, Chris Lovato and Sippy Lovato, all of Portales; four sisters, Vitalia Garcia and Patricia Smeal, both of Portales, and Feliz Simpkins and Grace Peterson, both of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. Oklahoma Helen N. Costner GUYMON, Okla. - Helen N. Costner, 79, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mrs. Costner was born in the Eva community. A lifelong Guymon resident, she graduated from Goodwell High School. She was a homemaker and an Avon representative for more than 20 years. She married James R. Costner in 1939 at Stratford. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Richard Costner of Guymon; two sisters, Lonita Shipp of Eva and Wilma Kasselman of Guymon; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Irene Branscum LAWTON, Okla. - Irene Branscum, 80, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Allen, pastor of Olivet Baptist Church, officiating. Mrs. Branscum was born in Brownwood, Texas and graduated from high school in Pampa, Texas. She was a 50plus year member of the Eastern Star and was a member of Olivet Baptist Church. In 1993, she moved to Lawton. Survivors include her husband, George E. Branscum; a sister, Mamie Layton of Oroville, Calif.; four nieces; four nephews. Thelma Minnie Kohler Tevebaugh BOISE CITY, Okla. - Thelma Minnie Kohler Tevebaugh, 88, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. CST Monday in Campo Cemetery in Campo, Colo., with David George officiating. Arrangements are by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City. Mrs. Tevebaugh was born at the Kohler Ranch north of Boise City and attended the Garett School. After her marriage, she lived on a farm southeast of Campo until 1935 when she and her family moved to Cimarron River country. In 1942, they bought a farm southeast of Boise City. In 1953, she moved to Boise City where she took the first licensed practical nurse class offered at the hospital and graduated in 1954. She then worked at the hospital and part-time for Dr. J.L. Wheeler. In 1966, she worked for him on a fulltime basis until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Union Chapel Methodist Church and taught Sunday School in Union Chapel, Marella and Boise City. She also was active in the Circle E Home Demonstration Club. She married Jesse Ward "J.W." Tevebaugh in 1927 at Boise City. He preceded her in death. Survivors include her children, Reba Killion, Alberta Shannon and Olen Tevebaugh, all of Boise City, and Clayton Tevebaugh of Campo; three sisters, Era Gegan of Maize, Kan., Nell Bristol of Lamar, Colo., and Merle Buller of Eugene, Ore.; two brothers, Robert Kohler of Elkhart, Kan., and Paul Kohler of Boise City; 10 grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren. Elsewhere Richard Fredrick Bertram Sr. MATHIS - Richard Fredrick Bertram Sr., 63, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Saturday in Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis with the Rev. Stanley Nixon officiating. Arrangements were by Dobie Funeral Home of Mathis. Mr. Bertram was born in Elizabeth, La., and lived in Amarillo until three years ago when he moved to Mathis. He retired as construction superintendent for an industrial coal power plant. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a son, Richard F. Bertram Jr. of Amarillo; four daughters, Debra Bertram of Alexandria, La., Jane Kaye Scott of Kingsville, Carrie Lynn Ford of Mathis and Joni Anthony of Clovis, N.M.; his mother, Ouida Bertram of Alexandria, La.; a sister, Wanda Hurst of Elizabeth; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Opal Campbell Blick WICHITA, Kan. - Opal Campbell Blick, 61, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Resthaven Mortuary Chapel with Monsignor Thomas McGread of St. Francis of Assisi and the Rev. James Billinger of St. Elizabeth's officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Mrs. Blick was born in Truth or Consequences, N.M. She was a volunteer secretary for the Red Cross. She married Joseph Blick in 1979 at Wichita. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kerry Dawson of Amarillo and James White Jr., of Wichita; three daughters, Kathy Miller and Nancy Lugo-Baez, both of Wichita, and Amy Carrillo of Austin, Texas; and five grandchildren. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be to Catholic Charities or American Red Cross. Area Evylena Huckabee DUMAS - Evylena Huckabee, 82, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Street Church of Christ with Art Lynch, minister, officiating. Additional services were at 3:30 p.m. in City Park Church of Christ in Floydada with burial in Floydada Cemetery. Arrangements were by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Huckabee was born in Randlett, Okla., and was a longtime Floydada resident. She lived in Hereford from 1957 until moving to Dumas in 1967. She was a homemaker and member of First Street Church of Christ. She married Earl Huckabee in 1937 at Lockney. He died in 1983. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Leatherman; a sister, Christine Johnson of Dallas; and two grandsons. The family will be at 210 Phillips in Dumas. Anna Lee Englant BOVINA - Anna Lee Englant, 67, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Morgan, pastor, and the Rev. Bob Webb of Burkburnett officiating. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Bovina. Mrs. Englant was born in Yell County, Ark. In 1962, she moved from Gravelly, Ark., to Bovina where she was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Floyd Englant in 1963 at San Diego. She was preceded in death by a son, Calvin James, in 1950. Walter L. Clements DUMAS - Walter L. "Red" Clements, 79, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Dumas Cemetery with Willard Simmons, Church of Christ lay minister of Dumas, officiating. Arrangements were by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Clements was born in Broken Bow, Okla., and was an Army veteran of World War II. A Dumas resident since 1962, he was a millwright in construction. Mr. Clements was a member of 14th and Meredith Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9022 of Dumas and American Legion Post No. 224 of Dumas. He married Wavel Coym in 1950 at Pampa. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Laura Glassman and Cindy Black of Amarillo; two sons, Leslie Clements of Dumas and Rusty Clements of Zapata; three grandsons; and five great-grandchildren. Gaylon Couch PLAINVIEW - Gaylon Couch, 73, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in 11th and Amarillo Church of Christ with Dr. Max Browning, pastor of First United Methodist Church, and Thomas Richburg, deacon at 11th and Amarillo Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in Plainview Cemetery with military graveside services. Arrangements were by WoodDunning Funeral Home. Mr. Couch was born in Foley and was an Army veteran of World War II. In 1946, he moved to Plainview. He was a building contractor and worked for Larson Co., from 1975 until his retirement in 1990. Mr. Couch was a member of 11th and Amarillo Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He married Evelyn Jacobs Raper in 1994 at Plainview. His first marriage was in 1947 to Marie Eugenie Borle who died in 1992. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis Couch of Plainview; a stepson, Kelly Raper of Houston; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Hands of West Texas Hospice in Lockney. Doug Graham PERRYTON - Doug Graham, 33, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in 13th and Jefferson Church of Christ with Robert Moore officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree County Cemetery by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Mr. Graham was born and raised in Perryton where he graduated from high school in 1985. For several years, he was employed as grounds keeper for the Museum of the Plains. At the time of his death, he was night watchman for the Farm-Pro Corp. Survivors include his mother, Joy Graham of Perryton; and three sisters, Jamie Bacerril, Janette Graham and Jeffy Garza, all of Perryton. Larry Neil Pingelton PANHANDLE - Larry Neil Pingelton, 53, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Perkins, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Pingelton was born in Amarillo. He was the fourth generation to live in Carson County and a lifelong resident of Panhandle. He was employed as a carpenter and by Panhandle Independent School District. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Paula Atkins in 1964 at Panhandle. Survivors include his wife; son, Jerod Pingelton of Dumas; and a brother, the Rev. Ron Pingelton of Sterling, Colo. Marion Calvin Sharp PLAINVIEW - Marion Calvin Sharp, 70, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson of the church officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Sharp was born in Clovis, N.M. In 1990, he moved to Plainview from Chino, Calif. He retired as a power plant operator and was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. He married Mary Katherine Hurt in 1945 at Portales, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Sharp of La Palma, Calif.; two daughters, Susan LaSarge and Carol Nolen, both of Riverside, Calif.; two sisters, Ella Glenn of Denton and Irene Stanfield of Clovis; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Marvin Messer PAMPA - Marvin "Odell" Messer, 70, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Moreland, associate pastor of the First Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Messer was born in Spearman and moved to the Pampa and Lefors area in 1929. Since 1943, he worked for pipeline companies and was supervisor for K&K Inc., of White Deer at the time of his death. He was a member of the Pampa Moose Lodge and was a Baptist. In 1994, he married Gloria Isom at Panhandle. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Fay Prouse, in 1989. They were married in 1957 at Pampa. Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald J. Henderson; a sister, Maxine Bennett of Pampa; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Pampa Meals on Wheels. Velma Clift CHILDRESS - Velma Clift, 89, of Houston, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ila Mayes of Wichita Falls, former pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Clift was born and raised in Childress and was a lifelong resident until moving to Houston in 1993. She attended Childress schools and worked at the Childress Army Airfield during World War II. She then worked for the Childress Chamber of Commerce office and city water department. Mrs. Clift later served as city treasurer for several years. She was a member and past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club and was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. A member of First Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday School for several years. She married Herbert Clift in 1935 at Childress. Survivors include her husband; and a son, Ronald H. Clift of Houston. Family visitation will be from 7 until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Juanita Pena PLAINVIEW - Juanita Pena, 74, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. today in Lemons Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Primera Iglesia Bautista with the Rev. Glen E. Godsey officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. She was born in Fredericksburg and moved to Plainview in 1949. A member of Primera Iglesia Bautista, she taught Sunday School and Girls' Auxiliary for many years. She married Jose Maria Pena in 1938 at Paint Rock. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Josie Uranga of San Angelo, and Maria Torres and Linda Pena, both of Plainview; four sons, Raymundo Pena of Plainview, Raul "Roy" Pena of Glenn Heights, Peter Pena of Snyder and David Pena of Friona; four brothers, Domingo Gonzales and Fred Gonzales, both of Plainview, Paul Gonzales of Lubbock and Martin Gonzales of Richardson; a sister, Olivia Cortinas of Hereford; 23 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. Gordie Lee Coffey DUMAS - Gordie Lee Coffey, 84, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in 14th and Meredith Church of Christ in Dumas with Willard Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Coffey was born in McCullough County and had been a Dumas resident since 1946. She was a homemaker and member of 14th and Meredith Church of Christ. She married John H. Coffey in 1946 at Brownwood. He preceded her in death in 1972. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Taylor of Sunray; a son, Claude Coffey of Benton, Ark.; two sisters, Mattie Johnson of Irving and Patsy Stokes of Florence; a brother, Irven Smith of Brownfield; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
