Cremation arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage. Mr. Johnson was born in Kimball, Neb., and had lived in Amarillo for 20 years. He graduated from Amarillo High school in 1952. He moved to Hereford in 1964 and worked for Holly Sugar from 1964 until 1983 as a maintenance supervisor and electrician. He returned to Amarillo in 1995. He was a Jehovah's Witness. Survivors include two sons, Scott Johnson of Stinnett and Pat Johnson of Clifton; and a sister, JoLeen Lassiter of Amarillo. Mrs. Boykin was born in Krum and had lived in Amarillo since 1951. She was a member of First Baptist church. Her husband, William Chesley Boykin, died in 1980. Survivors include two sons, W.C. The body will be available for viewing this morning. Josie Dee Carthel Ritchey Josie Dee Carthel Ritchey, 91, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in San Jacinto Church of Christ with Bret McCausland of San Jacinto Church of Christ and Glen Walton of High Plains Children's Home officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Lockney Cemetery at Lockney. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Ritchey was born in Lockney and moved to Amarillo in 1962 from Silverton. She was a housewife and a member of San Jacinto Church of Christ. She married Amos L. Ritchey in 1924 at Lockney. He died in 1985. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Bell Ritchey in 1995, and an infant son, A.D. Ritchey in 1937. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Ritchey of Amarillo and Fred L. Canyon Lee R. Moore Lee R. Moore, of Canyon, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Bales, pastor, and the Rev. Kevin Deckard, associate pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Fairmont Cemetery at Hollis, Okla., by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon and Happy. Mr. Moore was born in Hollis. He graduated from West View High School at Hollis and from Altus Junior College. He served in the Army from 1941 until 1947 in the 9th Battery 96th Division. After returning home, he attended Oklahoma State University, where he received his master's degree in vocational education. He taught vocational agriculture for 10 years at Lexington, Neb., 12 years at Happy, and 10 years at Canyon, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canyon, Crusaders Sunday School Class, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Retired Teachers Association. He was a Mason. He married Karleen McAlister in 1945 at Belton. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Lee Moore of the home; and a sister, Miralda Crabb of Hollis. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today in St. Helen Catholic Church by the Rev. Anthony Martinez. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Lucero was born in Vaughn and moved to Portales in 1954. She was a homemaker and member of St. Helen Catholic Church. She married Orlando Lucero in 1955 at Portales. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Enedina Lucero in 1987. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Danny Lucero of Hobbs, Leroy Lucero of Portales and Orlando Lucero Jr., of Lawton, Okla.; two daughters, Carmen Lucero of Lubbock and Jennifer Lucero of Portales; a brother, Gilbert Rodarte of Albuquerque; a sister, Maria Chavez of Portales; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Harold Kauffman NARA VISA, N.M. - Harold Kauffman, 91, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in the Quay Cemetery at Quay, south of Tucumcari. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mr. Kauffman was born in Luray, Va., and had been a resident of the Nara Visa community for many years. He was active in ranching until his death. He was a member of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, in 1978. Survivors include a brother, Vernon Kauffman of Luray; and a sister, Virginia Vogt of Luray. The body will be available for viewing until 8:30 a.m. today at the funeral home. The casket will not be opened at the graveside service. Raymond Joseph Dean CLOVIS, N.M. - Raymond Joseph Dean, 80, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in The Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday in The Chapel by Daniel Chavez. Burial will be in the San Jon Cemetery by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Dean was born east of Ragland. He was a lifetime resident of the Clovis area and worked in farming and cattle ranching. He was a Catholic. He married Elsie J. Forsyth in 1948 in Tucumcari. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Rush of Warrenton, Ore., and Marsha Morris of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Clyde Dean and Leo Dean, both of Albuquerque; four sisters, Loretta Fury of Grady, Florence Hendricks of Melrose, Elizabeth Trapp of Tucumcari and Ramona "Patsy" Morris of Science Hill, Ky.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Elsewhere Lowell A. Hugelen MADDOCK, N.D. - Lowell A. Hugelen, 59, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998. Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday in North Viking Lutheran Church with Paula Knutson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home. Mr. Hugelen was born in Rugby, N.D. He was raised and educated in Maddock. He graduated in 1957 from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School at Maddock and from North Dakota State University's school of Pharmacy at Fargo in 1961. He purchased Maddock drug in 1961, owning and operating the drug store until his death. Mr. Hugelen was a lifetime member and served several terms as a trustee of North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock. He was a member and past president of the Maddock Community Club; a member of the Maddock Community Center board of directors, the Maddock Area Development, Maddock Cable TV board, a longtime member of the North Dakota Pharmaceutical Association and a former member of the Maddock Memorial Hospital Board. He was an organizational member and an EMT with the Maddock Ambulance Service for many years. He received the Maddock Future Farmers of America Honorary Chapter Farmer Award in 1982, the Bobcat Boosters Award in 1988 and the Hometown Hero Award by Northern Plains Electric Cooperative in June. He married Sandra Nelson in 1963 in rural Maddock. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Timothy Hugelen of Fargo and Daniel Hugelen of Bismarck; three daughters, Christine Johnson of Amarillo, Constance Smith of Eau Claire, Wis., and Rachel Rutten of Minot; a sister, Audrey Hugelen of Minot; a brother, Hillis Hugelen of Velva; and six grandchildren. Gladys Alma Moore Lee SPUR - Gladys Alma Moore Lee, 70, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Norris Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Dickens Cemetery by Campbell Funeral Home of Spur. Mrs. Lee was born in Kaufman County. She had lived in Dickens County since 1932 until moving to Waller earlier this year. For 25 years, Mrs. Lee was a beautician. She was a former member of the Spur Art Guilde and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She married Charles William Lee in 1943 at Spur. He preceded her in death in January. Survivors include four sons, Charles William Lee Jr., and Rickey Lynn Lee, both of Waller, Kenneth Harold Lee of New Orleans and Jerry Dan Lee of Amarillo; a daughter, Debra Kay Browning of Waller; three brothers, Roy Dale Moore of Lubbock and Hilton Moore and John Moore, both of Spur; three sisters, Hazel Elliott of Idalou, Shirley Lingerfelt and Sue Roman, both of Lake Buchanan; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Area Zonell Wakefield TULIA - Zonell Wakefield, 86, of Tulia, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Church of the Holy Spirit. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Church of the Holy Spirit with the Rev. John Salazar-Jimenez, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Mrs. Wakefield was born in Hico. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit and St. Williams Altar Society. She had worked many years in Tulia businesses as a waitress and a clerk. Survivors include a daughter, Mona Acker of Nazareth; two sisters, Joyce Briscoe of Clyde and Lurlene Kutzer of San Antonio; two brothers, Paul Simmons of Sterling City and Neil Simmons of Abilene; six grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren. Snyder, M.D., 89, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church in Canadian with the Rev. Bradley K. Walker, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Dr. Snyder was born and raised in Canadian. He attended Park College in Parkville, Mo., and received a degree in mechanical engineering in 1931 from New Mexico State. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Snyder retired from the Army as captain having served in Germany in World War II. He started his medical practice in Canadian in 1948 and retired in 1985. For many years, he was the physician for the Canadian Independent School District athletic department. From 1979 until 1998, Dr. Snyder was on the board of directors at First State Bank of Canadian. He was a member and past president of Rotary Club, past member of the chamber of commerce board of directors and served as president of the Canadian ISD board of trustees. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. In 1973, the chamber of commerce recognized Dr. Snyder as Man of the Year. He and his wife established Little House Day Care Center, now known as Rachel's Little House. He married Rachel Elizabeth Brown in 1935 at Fort Smith, Ark. She died in 1981. Survivors include a daughter, Nona Dale Fulton, M.D., of Amarillo; two sons, Rush Snyder Jr., M.D., of Amarillo and Edward Snyder, M.D., of San Angelo; two sisters, Dr. Marjorie Reuthe of South Bend, Ind., and Ruth Snyder Sherman, M.D., of Roxbury, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The body will not be available for viewing. Jack Cartwright MORTON - Jack Cartwright, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Second and Taylor Street Church of Christ in Morton with Bill Schlabach, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Cartwright was born in Ringling, Okla. In 1949, he moved to Cochran County from Oklahoma. He had been employed at the Morton Cotton Seed Delinting Co. for a number of years. He was a member of the Second and Taylor Street Church of Christ where he had served as an elder. Mr. Cartwright was a member of Morton Senior Citizens where he had served on the board as president. He also served on the Senior Companion Board of Levelland. He married Bessie Ward in 1942 at Marietta, Okla. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Len Cartwright of Levelland, Jimmy Cartwright of Peculiar, Mo., and Terry Cartwright of Bayfield, Colo.; a daughter, Linda Cheek of Morton; three sisters, Irene Kemp of Gainesville, Ida Auld of Rubottom, Okla., and Wanda Chapman of Velma, Okla.; a brother, Walter Cartwright of Rush Springs, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Ms. Ontiveros was born in Santa Rita, N.M., and had lived in Perryton for 35 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Survivors include a son, Jessie Velaquez of Perryton; two daughters, Marie Elena Gastelum of El Paso and Eva Borunda of Perryton; a brother, Jose Ontiveros of Torreon, Mexico; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1000 S.W. 15th Ave., Perryton, TX 79070. George Saied PERRYTON - George Saied, 78, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Frank T. Springer and the Rev. Harrol Waterbury officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Saied was born in Caddo, Okla., and had lived in Perryton since 1957. He was an Army Air Corps glider pilot in World War II. For 35 years, he owned and operated Saied's Men's Shop. Mr. Saied was a Mason and member of various other civic organizations. He was a member of the First Christian Church and was West Texas representative for Hilton Hotels. He married Pat Brown in 1947 at Childress. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ben Saied of Amarillo; two daughters, Trice Rahill of Oklahoma City and Beverly Spinden of Perryton; a brother, Louis Saied of Amarillo; a sister, Najla Saied of Childress; and eight grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church of Perryton or Make A Wish Foundation. Vernon Leon Alexander PLAINVIEW - Vernon Leon Alexander, 84, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Allen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Alexander was born in Park Springs and moved to Plainview from Kress in 1946. For many years, he was employed as a machinist for Green Machinery. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Odd Fellows and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Alexander was an Army veteran of World War II. In 1946, he married Gladys Oleta Vinyard at Plainview. She preceded him in death in 1997. Survivors include two sons, Keith Alexander of Red Rock and Vance Alexander of Amarillo; a daughter, Lynnette Ware of Rowlett; a sister, Lorene Neal of Lubbock; a brother, Dempsey Alexander of Hereford; and three grandchildren.
