Bishop SPEARMAN - John D. Bishop, 95, died Thursday, April 9, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Cole officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Bishop was born in McPherson County, Kan. He had lived in the Spearman area since 1929, moving from Kansas. He was a salesman. He operated Spearman Hardware from 1929 from 1970, when he retired. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He married Sammie Jones in 1929 at Canyon. She died on April 3. Survivors include three nieces. Lynn Brown HALE CENTER - Lynn Brown, 37, of Amarillo, a former Hale Center resident, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church of Hale Center with the Rev. Gene Meacham officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mr. Brown was born in Lubbock. He moved from Dumas to Amarillo in 1996. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dumas. Survivors include his mother, Naomi of Hale Center; and a brother, Lee Brown of San Angelo. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Bill Brillhart PERRYTON - Bill Brillhart, 42, died Thursday, April 9, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Harrol Waterbury and the Rev. Michael Waterbury officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Brillhart was born in Perryton and had been a lifetime Perryton-area resident. He worked in oil field service. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother, Eulene Brillhart of Perryton; two daughters, Kari Jo Carnes of Mustang, Okla., and Lori Beth Brillhart of Perryton; a brother, Joe Brillhart of Perryton; and a grandson. Amarillo James Shepard James Shepard, 59, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Shepard had lived in Amarillo for several years. There are no known survivors. Bill Anderson Bill Anderson, 68, of Kerrville, a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, in Kerrville. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St. with Dr. Norman Grigsby of St. Paul United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Anderson was born in Lockett. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1949. He returned to Amarillo in 1985 from Floral Park, N.Y. He moved to Kerrville in 1992 from Amarillo. As a boy in Amarillo, he was a paperboy for the Amarillo Globe-News. He was a retired jockey. From 1952 to 1958, he worked at the King Ranch Racing Stables in Kingsville and Elmont, N.Y., where he exercised thoroughbred horses and broke yearlings. From 1959 to 1985, Mr. Anderson worked for the New York Racing Association in the Pari-mutuel Department at Elmont. He was a seller, cashier, money room manager, assistant manager and head information window clerk. From 1985 to 1992 he worked at Amarillo National Bank in the teller department. From 1990 to the present, he worked at Gillespie County Fair and Festival Association at Fredericksburg, where he managed the pari-mutuel park during the racing season. Mr. Anderson was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Kerrville. He married Sandie Carter in 1985 at Elmont. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Becky Walton Foster, in 1986. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Paul Walton of New York City; four sisters, Ida Carter of Houston, Josie Lyles of Waco, Penny Mann of Amarillo and Melva Kardos of Red River, N.M.; his mother, Clara Rose Anderson of Amarillo; and a granddaughter. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Margaret E. Pitcock Margaret E. Pitcock, 69, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 9, 1998. There will be private services. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Pitcock was born in Amarillo and had been a lifelong Amarillo resident. She was a desk clerk in the motel industry. She was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Pitcock. Survivors include a sister, Virginia Folkner of Amarillo. C. Frank VanNoy C. Frank VanNoy, 87, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. VanNoy was born in Vandalia, Mo. He moved to Amarillo in 1951 from New York. He was a graduate of Amarillo High School and West Texas State University. He received his master's degree in education from Columbia University in New York. Mr. VanNoy worked in civil service for the federal government. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was Methodist. He married Marjorie Harper in 1946 at Curacao, Dutch West Indies. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sharon Cox of Arlington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Alzheimer's Association. Opal Inez Spurgeon Opal Inez Spurgeon, 77, of Amarillo, a former longtime Clarendon resident, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in River Road Baptist Church at Amarillo with Michael Carter, pastor, and Mitch Wilson of Shallowater officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery at Clarendon by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. of Clarendon. Mrs. Spurgeon was born in Goodnight, Armstrong County. She was a resident of Clarendon for much of her life before moving to Amarillo 34 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of River Road Baptist Church. She married Norris Spurgeon in 1939 at Seagraves. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Pat Contreras and Zo Womble, both of Amarillo; a sister, Zola Webb of Amarillo; a brother, Fred Brown of Groom; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to River Road Baptist Church or Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center of Amarillo. Gollihugh, 88, a former resident of Amarillo, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Herman H. Plott, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo with the Rev. Bob Brown, pastor of Central Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Arrangements are by George C. Price Funeral Directors. Mrs. Gollihugh was born in Stonewall County. She moved to Levelland last year from Amarillo. She was a homemaker and member of Central Church of the Nazarene. She married Roy H. Gollihugh in 1929 at Clarendon. He died in 1986. She also was preceded in death by a son, Bert Gollihugh, in 1953. Survivors include two sons, T.R. Gollihugh of Nocona Hills and Otis Gollihugh of Phoenix; a daughter, Faye Gray of Levelland; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Terry Rich SUDAN - Terry Rich, 34, of Lubbock, died Thursday, April 9, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church of Sudan with the Rev. Jim Hawthorne, retired pastor from Amarillo, and the Rev. Lyndall Fletcher, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Sudan Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Rich was born in Littlefield. He had been a resident of Lubbock State School. Survivors include his mother, Dr. Karen Rich of Canyon; his father and stepmother, Nathan and Maxine Rich of Canyon; a brother, Travis Rich of Dallas; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Engram, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rich, all of Sudan. Oklahoma Samuel Schoenhals SHATTUCK, Okla. - Samuel "Sam" Schoenhals, 90, died Sunday, April 5, 1998. Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in United Methodist Church with the Rev. Zimmerman officiating. Burial was in Shattuck Memorial Cemetery by Mason Funeral Home. Mr. Schoenhals was born near Shattuck. He was a farmer before retiring in 1989. He was a charter member of St. Paul Congregational Church. He married Mary Katherine Meier in 1930 at Shattuck. She died in 1981. He married Emma Meier, who died in 1987. He also was preceded in death by an infant son, Samuel Edwin, in 1932. Survivors include three sons, Melvin Schoenhals of Fritch, Texas, Merlin Schoenhals of Ozona, Texas, and Mike Schoenhals of Danville, Ill.; a daughter, Shirley of Breckenridge, Texas; four stepsons, Tommy Meier of Laverne, Duane Meier of Beaver, R.J. Meier of Elmwood and Charlie Meier of Littlefield, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. New Mexico Alex Robert Bonney CLOVIS, N.M. - Alex Robert Bonney, 36, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Guadalupe by the Rev. Daniel M. Balizan. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Bonney was born in Clovis and graduated from Clovis High School. He was an auto mechanic and was the self-employed owner of Bonney's Service Center. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Survivors include his parents, Alex and Linda Bonney of Clovis; a son, Ryan Bonney of Lazbuddie, Texas; two brothers, Ronnie Bonney Sr. and Mark Bonney, both of Clovis; and three sisters, Debbie Reyes, Jackie Bonney and Rene Bonney, all of Clovis. Neva Stanfield CLOVIS, N.M. - Neva Stanfield, 88, died Thursday, April 9, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Bill Sylskar officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mount Olive Cemetery in Purdin, Mo., with Artie McDowell officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Stanfield was born in Shafter, Mo. She married Charles Samuel Stanfield in 1938 at Maryville, Mo. He died in 1975. Mrs. Stanfield earned her bachelor of science degree in education from Northwest Missouri and her master's degree in early childhood education from UCLA. She taught kindergarten in St. Louis, Blythe, Calif., and Houston before moving to Clovis in 1945. Mrs. Stanfield established Stanfield's Progressive Preschool in 1948 and taught for 25 years before retiring in 1973. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Keystone Chapter No. 27 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a charter member of DOES and served on the board for the Salvation Army. She was a 50-year member of the American Association of University Women and served as president for two terms. Mrs. Stanfield was honored by KOAT-TV with a Seven Who Care award. She also was named "Mrs. Republican" by the Curry County Republican Women. Survivors include a son, Bruce Stanfield of Safford, Ariz.; two daughters, Sue McDowell of Clovis and Beth Hoy of Elephant Butte; a sister, Mary Hoffman of Trenton, Mo.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to First United Methodist Church in Clovis or Mount Olive Church in Purdin. Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Betty F. Austin CLOVIS, N.M. - Betty F. Austin, 67, died Sunday, April 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Church of God in Christ with Bishop W. Charles Green officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Austin was born in Daingerfield, Texas. She was a teacher at a day-care center in Dallas. She then was a supervisor and hostess for Wyatt's Cafeteria for 25 years. She retired and moved to Clovis 18 years ago. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She married Alvin S. Austin Sr. in 1950 at Daingerfield. He died in 1978. Survivors include a son, Alvin Austin Jr. of Dallas; three daughters, Mae Brinkley, Janis Austin and Jacqueline Austin, all of Clovis; a brother, Willie D. Brown of Daingerfield; two sisters, Theresa Martin and Charline Brown, both of Daingerfield; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
