She was a former member of Bonham Street Church of Christ in Paris and a member of Central Church of Christ in Amarillo. She married Fred Alvie Burns in 1952. He died in 1986. Osage in Amarillo. Mrs. Rickard was born in Shidler, Okla., and moved to Borger in the 1940s. She graduated from Borger High School and attended Frank Phillips Junior College, West Texas State University and St. Anthony's School of Nursing. Mrs. Rickard had been employed as a registered nurse at Southwest Osteopathic Hospital for 17 years. She had lived in Amarillo from 1970 until 1996, and was a member of San Jacinto Church of Christ. Clyde Pickering Clyde Pickering, 77, of Amarillo, died Friday, May 8, 1998. Mr. Pickering was born in Sapulpa, Okla., and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1939. He was a Navy veteran of World War II where he received two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the Navy Seabees. Mr. Pickering was in construction and retired from the state of Hawaii school district. He was a member of International Order of Odd Fellows for more than 40 years, a past Noble Grand for I.O.O.F., and member of San Jacinto Lodge No. 210. Ruth Norman DODSON - Ruth Norman, 73, died Thursday, May 7, 1998. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church in Wellington with the Rev. Joe Jernigan, pastor of Calvary Christian Fellowship in Shamrock, and the Rev. Keith Beverly, pastor of New Abundant Life Fellowship in Wellington, officiating. Burial was in Dodson Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. Mrs. Norman was born in Pleasanton. She graduated from Quail High School at Quail. She earned a bachelor's degree from West Texas State University and a master's degree in education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. She was a public school teacher for many years before retiring in 1989. She taught at Dodson; Wellington; Arnett; Bethany, Okla.; Northfield; and Quail. Mrs. Norman also was a minister from 1989 to 1997 at New Abundant Life Fellowship, where she also was a member. She did missionary work in South Africa, Russia and England. She married Bynum Hightower in 1947. He died in 1959. She married Clinton Norman in 1967 at Shamrock. Survivors include her husband; a son, John Hightower of Plainview; a daughter, Cynthia Rowe of Dodson; a stepson, Kenneth Wade Norman of Hollis, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Kay Mead of Wellington; four sisters, Eloise Kucera of Wellington, Cleo McQueary of Amarillo, Ann Holman of Liberal, Kan., and Lyda Bussey of Rapid City, S.D.; a brother, John Aaron Jr. of Houston; two grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home Ivey Chapel with the Rev. Randy Gressett, youth minister of First Baptist Church of Dimmitt, officiating. Burial will be in Hart Cemetery. Mr. Ritter was born in Canute, Okla. He attended school in Elk City, Okla., and Plainview. He lived in Dumas before moving to Hart 26 years ago. He served on the Hart City Council in 1980 and 1981. He served as mayor and municipal judge from 1981 until 1985. He was a past member of the Lions Club in Hart. He worked for Affiliated Foods of Amarillo for 11 years. Mr. Ritter married Betty Flies in 1952 at Canute. Dean McNamara, chaplain of Hospice in Plainview, officiating. Arrangements and cremation are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Tragesser was born and raised in Houston. He served in the National Guard and worked in construction in Houston. He moved to Plainview in 1984 where he was involved in the construction of Golden Corral. He moved to Stephenville in 1985, returned to Plainview in 1990 and retired in 1991. He was a member of the bricklayers union in Houston and was a Baptist. He married Helen McAnnally in 1985 at Lubbock. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Parkside Chapel of Hereford. Mr. Higgins was born in Deaf Smith County and graduated from Hereford High School in 1940. He attended Texas Tech University for three years prior to enlisting in the Army during World War II. He served in China, Burma and India with Merles Marauders, now the Army Rangers. After the war, Mr. Higgins received his degree in animal husbandry from Texas Tech. He raised registered Hereford cattle on the family ranch. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849, a charter member of Lubbock Scottish Rite, Roy Wederbrook Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Texas Tech Ex-Students Association. He married Peggy Barnard in 1948 at Hereford. Survivors include his wife; and a brother, James Higgins of Hereford. She was a retired school teacher and ranch operator. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She married Carl M. Bird in 1924 at Walters, Okla. He died in 1966. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Iletta "Toots" Brinfield, in 1988. Survivors include a foster sister, Johnnie Jeffers of Plainview; two grandsons, James Bearden and Ross Bearden, both of Matador; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. W.F. Blankinship PADUCAH - W.F. "Tuck" Blankinship, 73, died Friday, May 8, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Crosby, pastor, and the Rev. Ed Peckham, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. in Goree Cemetery in Goree by Seigler Funeral Home. Mr. Blankinship was born in Goree. He was a Navy veteran of World War II where he received two Purple Hearts. He served in the Pacific theater. He was a helicopter pilot for 33 years and the first person to round up cattle by helicopter on the Masterson Ranch. Mr. Blankinship was a King County deputy sheriff for 11 years and a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Goree and a 32nd Degree Mason of the Paducah Lodge. He was in the Top 10 in the United States of the open class of skeet shooters. He married Armenda Rogers in 1947. She died in 1984. In 1985, he married Shirley Pendleton at Paducah. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jimmie Pendleton of Lubbock and Mark Pendleton of Paducah; a daughter, Laquita Gibbs of Padaucah; two brothers, Louis Blankinship of San Antonio and Joe Blankinship of Killeen; six sisters, Margie Allen of Goree, Melba Feemster of Hurst, Shirley Lambeth of Munday, Jean Adkins of Celina, Pat Davis of Haskell and Judy Wallner of The Colony; and three grandchildren. New Mexico Edna Meyer CLOVIS, N.M. - Edna Meyer, 87, died Thursday, May 7, 1998. Mrs. Meyer was born in Olustee, Okla. She moved to Clovis in 1950. In 1975, she retired from J.C. Penney. She was a member of the 16th and Pile Church of Christ. She married Albert Meyer in 1927 at Plainview. Mrs. Chatlain was born in Roy and moved to Portales as a girl. She graduated from Portales High School in 1943. During her first marriage, she lived all over the world including Alaska. She returned to Portales in 1979. She was a member of Bethel Homemakers Club, the Hospital Auxiliary and Emmanuel Baptist Church. She first married Perry Gentry. She later married Philip Chatlain in 1972 at Soldotna, Alaska. Survivors include her husband; a son, Walter Gentry of Alameda, Calif.; a daughter, Bonnie Kay Thornburg of Phoenix; three sisters, Velma Moore of Tucson, Ariz., Martha Reedy of Soldotna and Gay Linson of Kenai, Alaska; and three grandchildren. Mr. Martinez was born in Jacinto. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. He moved to Portales in 146 where he was employed by Kenyon farms and attended school to become a mechanic. For many years, he was employed by Worley Mills and by Selected Casing Plant. He retired in 1982 as custodian for Eastern New Mexico University. He married Rita Chacon in 1945 at Villanueva. Survivors include his wife; a son, Pee Martinez of Portales; a daughter, Joan Terry of Portales; two sisters, Mary Aguilar of Portales and Marcelina of Villanueva; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Oklahoma Joan Ward Campbell GUYMON, Okla. - Joan Ward Campbell, 66, died Saturday, May 9, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Chaffin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Mrs. Campbell was born in Crane, Texas, and moved to Odessa, Texas, at a young age. She moved to Columbia, South America, in 1957, then moved to Guymon in 1960. She recently retired from the city of Guymon after 25 years of service. She was a member of Victory United Methodist Church. She married Royce Neal Campbell in 1947 in West Texas. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Linda Jo Tarrant of Wellington, Kan., and Loretta "Lou" Ault of Spring, Texas; a son, Larry Neal Campbell of Ulysses, Kan.; a sister, Jerry Lynne Collins of Irving, Texas; two brothers, Charlie Roy Ward Jr. of Odessa and Johnny B. Ward of Snook, Texas; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Margaret Lucille Sutton FORGAN, Okla. - Margaret Lucille Sutton, 80, died Thursday, May 8, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Forgan Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Forgan Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service in Beaver. Mrs. Sutton was born in Clinton. She was a homemaker and attended Faith Community Chapel. She married Enoch Jasper Sutton in 1941 at Balko, Okla. He died in 1994. Survivors include a son, Douglas Sutton of Turpin; a daughter, Margaret Nichols of Forgan; two brothers, Robert Robb of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Merlyn Robb of Forgan; five sisters, Lillian Adams of Englewood, Colo., Maxine Gibbs and Betty Day, both of Forgan, Berniece Harrison of Amarillo, Ruth Wyant of Altus; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
