Mesneak BORGER - L.D. "Pot" Mesneak, 73, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Gateway Baptist Church with the Rev. Tunis Schuurman, pastor, and the Rev. Jimmy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mr. Mesneak was born in Dewey, Okla. An Army veteran of World War II, he lived in the Borger area for 49 years. He was a retired stillman with Phillips Petroleum Co. He was a member of Gateway Baptist Church. He married June Hines in 1947 at Sedan, Kan. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Mesneak of Fritch and Rodney Mesneak of Borger; a sister, Edith Crevier of Phoenix; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Hazel B. Phillips PAMPA - Hazel B. Phillips, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Priest Park Church of God with the Rev. Melvin E. Harris, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Phillips was born in Hardesty, Okla., and moved to Pampa in 1942. She attended high school in Pampa and Miami, Texas. She was a member of Priest Park Church of God, the Senior Ladies Class and the Ladies Ministry. She was a homemaker. She married Izah Phillips in 1936 at Miami. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Martha Organ of Pampa, June Basham of Phoenix, Ariz., and Carolyn Goodner of Guthrie, Okla.; a son, Joe Phillips of Pampa; three brothers, Clyde Cooper of Tennessee, Clarence Cooper of Carlsbad, N.M., and Johnny Cooper of Bell Gardens, Calif.; two sisters, Alice Jacobs of Manteca, Calif., and Helen Ernst of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Priest Park Church of God. Eleanore Gillmore STINNETT - Eleanore Gillmore, 71, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Borger. Mrs. Gillmore was born in Detroit and was a longtime Stinnett resident. Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Gillmore. Verona Jack HEREFORD - Zada "Verona" Jack, 76, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Gililland-Watson Funeral Home Rose Chapel with Evangelist Garland Lipe, of Havanna, Ark., officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mrs. Jack moved to Deaf Smith County in 1946 from Floyd County. She was a homemaker and attended the Church of Christ. She married Bertram Jack in 1946 at Floydada. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Perkins in 1983. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Galen Jack and Kent Jack, both of the Bootleg community; a daughter, Marla Baker of Blanco, N.M.; a brother, W.L. Miller of Lubbock; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mr. Melendez was a farmer and member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He married Maria Aguirre in 1944 at Mexico. He was preceded in death by two daughters and a son. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Ramona Luna; eight sons, Celso, Geraro, Cris, Monserat, Francisco, Gonzalo, Jose Luis and Jose Alfredo Melendez; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Raymon W. Aplin DUMAS - Raymon W. Aplin, 61, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray with David Stewart of Church of Christ in San Antonio officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Aplin was born in Turkey and was a longtime resident of Dumas. He had served in law enforcement in Cactus. He was employed as a butcher for D&H Meat Market of Dumas and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Aplin, in 1979, and a son, Thomas Aplin, in 1996. Survivors include five daughters, Ramona Davis of Middleburg, Fla., Darla Anderson of Amarillo, Debbie Eslick of Spearman, Karen Roscoe of Dumas and Connie Stewart of San Antonio; three sons, Ray Anderson of Dumas, Jerry Aplin of St. Mary's, Ga., and Kenny Aplin of Fordyce, Ark.; a brother, Roy Aplin of Missouri; a sister, Rosa Lee Ewing of Mount Ranier, Wash.; 20 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family will be at 200 N. Bliss. Willie Mae Cason WELLINGTON - Willie Mae "Granny" aka "Bill" Cason, 88, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. James McLeod, pastor, and the Rev. Tommy Austin, retired Baptist minister of Houston, officiating. Burial will be in South Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Cason was born in Kemp. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wellington where she served as president and associational director of the Women's Missionary Union. She was active in Girls' Auxiliary leadership and taught Sunday school for many years. Mrs. Cason was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, the Garden Club and the Belles Letters. She was a homemaker. She married Charles B. Cason in 1924 at Memphis. He died in 1968. She also was preceded in death by three sons, J.D. Cason, Donald Gene Cason and Charles Cason Jr. Survivors include a son, Clyde Cason of Ventura, Calif.; a sister, Jo Tedford of Fayetteville, Ark.; two brothers, G.A. Collier Jr., of Amarillo nd Elwin Collier of Burnet; nine grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren. The family requests memorials be to First Baptist Church. She had been employed as a telephone operator. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Quitaque. She married Raymond "Tate" Boyles in 1940 at Childress. He preceded her in death in 1995. Survivors include Teresa Jackson of Plainview, Brenda Mayfield and Jewel Mayfield, both of Lubbock, Sue Ferguson of Houston and Sabra Cook of Idalou. Mrs. Kemish was born in Dalhart and was a lifelong resident. She was employed by the Dalhart Daily Texan as classified ad manager and in charge of circulation for 20 years. She was a member of the Dalhart Church of Christ. She married James B. Kemish in 1936 at Dalhart. He preceded her in death in 1950. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jane Hess, in 1994. Survivors include a son-in-law, Jim Hess of Borger; a grandson; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Elizabeth Jane Bivens Home in Amarillo, Texas. Amarillo Garth T. Anderson Garth T. Anderson, 78, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church in Canyon with the Rev. Richard Bales, pastor, and the Rev. Kevin Deckard, associate pastor, officiating. Additional services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Capps Memorial Chapel at Fairfield. Burial will be at Birdston Cemetery at Streetman. Local arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Anderson was born in Streetman. He retired in 1982 from pipeline construction. After retirement, he raised cattle. He was an honorary member of the Randall County Sheriff's Posse and a member of River Road Baptist Church. He served in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Mable "Andy" Massey in 1948. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Beth, in 1959. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jane Anderson King of Canyon; three sisters, Elizabeth Carroll and Mattie Louise Bullard, both of Fairfield and Edna Vyers of Ennis; and three granddaughters. New Mexico Rupert B. Stratton Sr. CLOVIS, N.M. - Rupert B. Stratton Sr., 85, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy E. Hines Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Stratton was born in Denver. He graduated as an honor student from Western State College at Gunnison, Colo., with a major in music. He taught music in the Clovis school system from 1947-1948. He taught private lessons in Clovis for 40 years at Stratton School of Music. He also was listed in the Who's Who in Music Foundation in 1954. He became a member of Central Baptist Church in 1971. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Odessa. He married Myrtle Chandler in 1971. Survivors include his wife; a son, Rupert R. "Sonny" Stratton of Hobbs, N.M.; a daughter, Marilyn Rogers of Longmont, Colo.; three stepchildren, Caleb Chandler of Clovis, Joyce Brookshire of Odessa, Texas, and Wanda Russell of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Harold Stratton and Bruce Stratton, both of Pueblo, Colo.; three grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1919 Miller in Clovis. Teodoro G. Chacon LOGAN, N.M. - Teodoro G. "Ted" Chacon, 58, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in San Antonio Catholic Church in Logan with the Rev. John C. Daniel as celebrant. Burial will be in Logan Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mr. Chacon was born in Logan and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Logan High School. For many years, he was employed as supervisor at the port of entry at Nara Visa by the state of New Mexico. He was a member of the San Antonio Catholic Church of Logan. Survivors include his wife, Carmen Chacon; a daughter, Natalie Dominquez of Tucumcari; his mother, Mary Chacon of Clovis; two brothers, Don Chacon of Mountainair and Norman Chacon of Clovis; a sister, Celia Valencia of Albuquerque; and a grandson.
