Rister Frank W. Rister, 66, of Amarillo, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Llano East Cemetery with Windell Taylor, chaplain of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Rister was born in Plains City, Ohio, and moved to Amarillo in 1991 from Roswell, N.M. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a truck driver for 35 years, most recently driving for Palo Duro Meat Packing Co. from 1981 to 1987. He was a Protestant. He married Mary T. Cavallier in 1974 at Roswell. Survivors include his wife; three stepdaughters, Debra Jean Lorenti of Flagstaff, Ariz., Gail Marie Kennedy of Amarillo and Karen Kay Collums of Smithville; three sisters, Mary Ruth Lockwood, Margaret Kern and Rose Mary Adkins, all of Marysville, Ohio; four brothers, Ralph Rister of Pickerington, Ohio, John Rister of Marysville; Dickie Rister of Dayton, Ohio, and William Brady Rister Jr. of Florida; and two stepgrandchildren. Elizabeth Lee Harris Elizabeth Lee Harris, 50, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Harris was born in Gorman, Eastland County, and moved to Amarillo in 1969. She had worked as a secretary at Amarillo Hardware for many years and later in the pastoral department at High Plains Baptist Hospital for five years. She also worked as Dr. Batson's secretary at First Baptist Church where she also was a member. She married Randy Harris in 1966 in West Virginia. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Beth Rainey of Oklahoma City; a son, John Harris of the home; her mother, Paralee Grisham of Amarillo; two brothers, Jimmy "Jim" Grisham of Rhome and Raymond Grisham of Amarillo; and a grandson. The family requests memorials be to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Hazel E. Ledbetter Hazel E. Ledbetter, 73, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998. Nicole Paige Vanover Nicole Paige Vanover, infant daughter of Barry Lynn Vanover and Aleisha Silence of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998. The body will not be available for viewing. The family will be at 3107 S. Seminole. Nancy H. Ballard Nancy H. Ballard, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Andrew D. Parker, associate to the rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mrs. Ballard was born in Ashville, N.C. She graduated from Florida State University in 1939 where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Mrs. Ballard was a member of Junior Women's League and Sir Walter's Cabinet in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. She was a homemaker and member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church where she was a member of St. Catherine's Guild. She married Dr. William R. Ballard in 1969 at Georgia. Survivors include by her husband; four stepdaughters, Donna Hamilton of Katy, Bonnie Ross and Bille Vanderford, both of Amarillo, and Connie Dismuke of Greensboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. Carlos Rangel Carlos Rangel, 79, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Laurence Cathedral. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mr. Rangel was a veteran of World War II. He had lived in Amarillo for 40 years and retired in 1981 for CroweGuilde. Survivors include a special friend, Virginia Thomas; a son; four daughters; a sister; and several grandchildren. New Mexico Ethel F. Kidd Dawson TEXICO, N.M. - Ethel F. "Gi Gi" Kidd Dawson, 89, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Scott officiating. Additional services will be at 4 p.m. in First Methodist Church at Hedley, Texas, with the Rev. Neely Landrum officiating. Burial will be in Rowe Cemetery at Hedley. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Dawson was born in Hedley and had been a resident of Artesia for 44 years. She moved to Texico in 1995. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Texico. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Sue Wallace. Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Vaught of Odessa, Texas, Linda Haykus of Hobbs and Judy Lekavich of Texico; a son, Walter Don Johnston of Artesia; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Timoteo Flores Hernandez PORTALES, N.M. - Timoteo Flores Chabelo Hernandez, 56, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Hector Gomez and Natividad Gomez officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery. Mr. Hernandez was born in Pecos, Texas, and moved to Portales when he was 14 years old. He worked at Worley Mills and later at Sunmark Grain for 10 years as a grain elevator operator. He also had worked as a farm hand and a laborer and at Portales Valley Mills. He attended the Kingdom Hall. He married Beatrice Escontrias in 1961 at Pecos. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Joe Hernandez, Richard Hernandez, Fermin Hernandez, Israel Hernandez and Timoteo Hernandez Jr., all of Portales; a brother, Jose Hernandez of Pecos; a sister, Juana Martinez of Portales; and a grandson. Jake Bailey CLOVIS, N.M. - Jake Bailey, 81, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Grady Cemetery at Grady with the Rev. Tony Reynolds officiating. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Bailey was born in Nocona, Texas, and moved to Clovis in 1947 from Hobbs. He was a carpenter, retiring in 1977. He married Mabel Martin in 1944 at Clovis. She preceded him in death. Survivors include his children, Wayne Bailey and Roger Bailey, both of Clovis, Janice Henderson of Spartanburg, S.C., and Judy Kirby of Warner Robbins, Ga.; brothers and sisters, Lorene Tate of Ranchvale, Foy Bailey of Clovis, Bessie Rose of Ventura, Calif., Don Bailey of Hobbs, and Evelyn Ohrmann of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Buddhists services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in the Miller Mortuary Chapel. Cremation will follow services. Mrs. Chantharath was born in Vientiane, Laos. She moved to Amarillo in 1980. She moved to Liberal in 1997 from Las Vegas, Nev. Survivors include a son, Andy Chatharath of Liberal; a daughter, Amanda Chantharath of Liberal; her mother, Chanhom Bounyavong of Laos; three brothers, Tiothong Bounyavong and Kongsavath Bounyavong, both of Amarillo and Karaket Bounyavong of Vientiane; four sisters, Phatmany Mathaw and Veodao Vanthavone, both of Liberal, Sisouda Kounrabouth of Amarillo and Monkeo Phengnammachack of Vientiane. Tim W. Salem PADUCAH, Ky. - Tim W. Salem, 48, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Methodist Church of Turkey with the Rev. Fred Brown officiating. Arrangements are by the family. Mr. Salem was born in Wichita Falls. He was the owner and operator of Salem Dry Goods at Turkey and Clarendon. Survivors include four cousins, Dr. Bob Salem of Lubbock, Betty Korith of Dallas, Jay Campbell of Borger and Chris Corbet of Amarillo. Oklahoma Virgie Lee Altman BEAVER, Okla. - Virgie Lee Altman, 86, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Christian Church. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service of Beaver. Mrs. Altman was born in Beaver County. She graduated from Beaver High School in 1930 and had one year of business college. For 33 years, she was receptionist and bookkeeper for Southwestern Public Service Co. She moved to Searcy, Ark., in 1992. She married Lester Altman in 1931 at Liberal, Kan. He died in 1984. Survivors include her son, Ted Altman of Searcy; two sisters, LaVera Henson of Ponca City and Cleo Altman of Beaver; three grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. Canyon Newton W. Crain Newton W. Crain, 89, of Canyon, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Price, pastor, and the Rev. Paul Land, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Crain was born in Nocona and moved to Goodnight in 1909. He moved to Canyon in 1921 where he graduated from Canyon High School and West Texas State College. He was a farmer and rancher. Mr. Crain was a trustee and served on the board of Tierra Blanca School District for nine years. He also served for many years on the Canyon Independent School District board. For 24 years, he was a board member of Canyon Consumers Fuel and Elevator Co-op including the early years. He was a member of the board of directors of Dreamland Cemetery Association. He married Faye Bell in 1934 at Childress. She preceded him in death in 1990. Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Slay of Canyon and Dorothy Pennington of Grapevine; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Area Teauna Mewanna Crawford PLAINVIEW - Teauna Mewanna Crawford, 17, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Neil Unwin of the church and Justin Unwin, youth minister, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Miss Crawford was born in Riverside County, Calif., and moved to Plainview in 1997 from Houston. A senior at Plainview High, she was a member of the school choir. She was employed as a waitress at Kettle Restaurant and attended First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include her father and stepmother, Ralph and Tammie Crawford of Houston; her mother, Toni West of California; her grandparents, Ralph A. and Patsy Crawford of Plainview and Mewanna West of Tennessee; her greatgrandmother, Virginia Crawford of Lubbock; a stepsister, Tabitha Dowty of Houston; a stepbrother, J.D. Dowty of Houston; and her uncle, Ronnie Crawford of Plainview. Alegandra Guerrero CACTUS - Alegandra Guerrero, infant daughter of Blass and Hilda Guerrero, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998. Miss Guerrero was born in Amarillo. The family will be at 404 Louva, Apt. A in Cactus. Eunice Joan Reynolds PERRYTON - Eunice Joan Reynolds, 77, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Denton officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery. Mrs. Reynolds was born in Hammond, Okla. She lived in Perryton from 1966 until 1996. She lived in Amarillo for six months, then moved to Borger. In Perryton, she was employed as a cook for the Dutch Inn Restaurant. She married Robert Reynolds in 1951 at Stinnett. He died in 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Thompson of Borger and Sharon Stages of Amarillo; two sons, Robert Reynolds of Guymon, Okla., and Travis Reynolds of Pampa; a brother, Jack Vanover of Modesto, Calif.; three sisters, Lola Russell of Nocona, Liz Grace of Riverbank, Calif., and Pearl Vaughn of Houston; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Hospital of the Panhandle, 300 S. McGee, Borger, TX. Lester Leonard MOBEETIE - Lester Leonard, 78, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Mobeetie with the Rev. Dinzel Leonard, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mobeetie Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Leonard was born in Mobeetie where he was a lifelong resident. He retired in 1990 as Conoco distributor and Conoco station owner. He also was a former fire marshal for the Mobeetie Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Leonard served on the board of directors for Parkview Hospital for 28 years where he was one of the original directors. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. He married Jewel Estelle Alexander in 1941 at Mobeetie. She died in 1993. Survivors include two sisters, Laverne Newman of Chickasha, Okla., and Roberta Stevens of Azle; five brothers, Allen Leonard of Seguin, Dinzel Leonard of Canadian, Aubrey Lee Leonard of Pampa, Jesse Ray Leonard of Houston and Joe Fred Leonard of Wichita Falls. Gladys Pierce Cranford MORTON - Gladys Pierce Cranford, 86, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Morton with Bret Freeman, her grandson from Longview, officiating. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Cranford was born in Wolfe City and moved to the Maple community in 1944. She moved to Morton in 1978. She was a member of Morton Senior Citizens where she was named Senior Citizen of the Year in 1985. She was a homemaker and member of Eastside Church of Christ. Her first marriage was to Gene Pierce in 1930 at Hugo, Okla. He died in 1962. She then married Grady Cranford in 1969 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1978. Survivors include three sons, Roy L. Pierce of Morton, Willie Pierce of Whiteface and Stephen Glen Pierce of Andrews; a stepson, Doug Cranford of Coquille, Ore.; a daughter, Carol Gattis of Morton; four brothers, Truman Kelley of Beaumont, Travis Kelley of Morton, Alton Kelley of Mesquite and Troy Kelley of Greenville; 13 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren.
