Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Dumas Cemetery with Marcus Criswell officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas. Mrs. Mitchell had been a Dumas resident since 1952. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Dumas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Mitchell, in 1982. Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Burnett of Pensacola, Fla., and Marilyn Goff of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Jay Stanfield of Guymon, Okla., and Paul Stanfield of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Tennie Sosh of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Mary Ann Swaney BORGER - Mary Ann Swaney, 63, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Earthman's North Chapel in Houston with the Rev. Bobby Ferguson officiating. Burial will be at Rosewood Cemetery in Houston with local arrangements by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Swaney was a native and longtime resident of Borger. She lived the last 18 years in Houston. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Church. Survivors include three sons, Donny Hope of Gatesville, Kenneth Hope of Roscoe and J.W. Hope of Indiana; three daughters, Valorie Thompson of Houston, Willie Cates of Breckenridge and Debbie Lusk of Borger; and 22 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Crown of Texas Hospice in Houston. Leola "Slim" Cornutt DUMAS - Leola "Slim" Cornutt, 92, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Dumas with the Rev. Dan Turner, minister of music at First Baptist Church of Dumas, officiating. Interment will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Cornutt was born in Pike County, Ark., and had been a resident of Tow since 1996. Before moving to Tow, she had been a Dumas resident since 1935. She was a cafe owner and cook. She was preceded in death by a son, James O. Cornutt, in 1952. Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Cassel of Tow; one sister, Sue Powers of Tulsa; four grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; and four great-greatgrandchildren. Dumas Ave., Dumas, Texas, 79029./ Austin Price Leach PLAINVIEW - Austin Price Leach, 88, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Drew Travis, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mr. Leach is the son of a Hale County pioneer family and grew up in Plainview where he attended schools. He attended Seth Ward College and Texas Tech University. Mr. Leach was a veteran of World War II. He served in France and received the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. From 1957 until his retirement in 1977, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Plainview. Mr. Leach taught Sunday school at various churches. He was a member of the American Legion. He married Edna Marie Stanphell in 1956 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Joe Don Leach of Bothell, Wash.; a daughter, Jeanie Pennell of Plainview; a sister, Lois Leach Young of San Angelo; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was born in Wise County. She was a lifelong resident of Silverton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Norris, and a son, Joe Ted Vardell. Survivors include two sons, Ted Vardell of Amarillo and Mike Norris of Port Aransas; a stepdaughter, Neomi Yocum of Tucumcari, N.M.; a sister, Maggie Sweek of Silverton; a brother, Wimpy Vardell of Silverton; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Anastasia Nadine Soto Chavira MULESHOE - Anastasia Nadine Soto Chavira, infant daughter of Manuel Chavira and Laura Soto, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. Miss Chavira was born in Lubbock on Aug. 10. Hill WHEELER - John R. Hill, 57, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Country Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Weatherly, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Hill was born in Hereford and attended schools in Miami and Canadian. He graduated from Higgins High School in 1959. He graduated from Texas Tech University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He had lived in Wheeler for more than 25 years. Mr. Hill was a longtime breeder and trainer of quarter horses. For many years, he was a director of the American Quarter Horse Association and was an AQHA judge for 12 years. He also judged TCRA and Tri-State rodeos. He was a member of the Country Chapel in Wheeler. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Hill; a daughter, Christina Hill of Amarillo; a son, Will Hill of Westerback, Wash.; his mother, Mae Miller Hill of Wheeler; and a sister, Glenda Hill Webber of San Antonio. Amarillo Joyce Elaine Ruble Curtis Joyce Elaine Ruble Curtis, 52, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998. No services are planned. Ruth Pauline Sanders Norman Ruth Pauline Sanders Norman, 88, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998. She was employed as a beautician for 34 years and as a nurse's aide for several years. She worked as a senior aide and was a member of San Jacinto Church of Christ. She married Floyd Alvin Norman in 1944. He died in 1963. Survivors include a daughter, Anna Ruth Norman McDermott of Amarillo; a brother, Eugene Sanders of Dumas; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family will be at 4120 S. Parker. Joe Allen Joiner Joe Allen Joiner, 56, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle with Ralph Harmon, elder of Olsen Park Seventhday Adventist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Joiner was born in Amarillo and was a lifetime resident. He was a graduate of Amarillo High School. He was senior vice president for Corporate Printing and Bank Supply. Mr. Joiner was active in the Petroleum Bowling League on the Raiders team. He was also a supporter of the Amarillo Rattlers and Amarillo Dillas. He was a member of the Olsen Park Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors include his mother, Alma Thomas of Amarillo; a son, Timmy Joiner of Pampa; three brothers, Danny Joiner, Lynn Huggs and John Joiner, all of Amarillo; a sister, Sue Hurst of Albuquerque, N.M.; a special friend, Teresa Truitt of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. Oklahoma Wayne Joe Beckley GUYMON, Okla. - Wayne Joe Beckley, 64, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Chaffin, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Mr. Beckley was born in Eldorado, Kan. He was reared in Holyrood, Kan., and later served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1952-55. He married Luwana Hoover in 1955 at Wakeeny, Kan. A longtime Guymon resident, Beckley made his home in Guymon in 1956 and was employed as a bulldozer operator for R.G. Morgan & Sons. In 1976, he became a partner in the company and had served as president since 1992. He was a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Dawn Beckley. Survivors include a daughter, Lorrie Ireland of Dallas; two sons, Mitch Beckley of Guymon, and Brad Beckley of Turpin; a companion of 18 years, Shirlee Jones of Guymon; four brothers, J.D. Beckley of Guymon, Claude Beckley of Wichita, Kan., and Carl Beckley and Fred Beckley of Sacramento; a sister, Lucille Dolores Beckley of Wichita; three granddaughters; and four grandsons. Floyd BEAVER, Okla. - Ray H. Floyd, 90, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Beaver Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bill Moore officiating. Interment will be at Pioneer Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service of Beaver. Mr. Floyd was born in Beaver, where he was a lifetime resident. He married Feryl E. Butts on July 1, 1934, in Beaver. She preceded him in death in 1979. Survivors include a daughter, Elma Jean Fox of Cushing; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and six greatgreat-grandchildren. Doris Marie Odom ELK CITY, Okla. - Doris Marie Odom, 55, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, in Oklahoma City. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Trinity Holiness Church, 103 N. Van Buren in Blanchard with the Rev. Don Williams officiating. Burial will be in Blanchard Cemetery by Binyon Funeral Home. Mrs. Odom was born in Blanchard and attended Middleburg School. She graduated from Dibble High School in 1960. After her marriage, she lived in Midwest City, then moved to Chickasha. She moved to Pampa, Texas, in 1965 from Fort Smith, Ark., then moved to Elk City in 1990. In 1968, Mrs. Odom founded and was co-owner of Glo Valve. She joined Pampa Desk and Derrick in 1979 where she served as president in 1982 and Region V director in 1986. In 1996, she served as president of the International Association of Desk and Derrick Club. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Pampa. She married Harry Lynn Odom in 1961 at Middleburg. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Greg Odom and Rob Odom, both of Elk City, and Ron Odom of Blancard; her parents, Gladys and Farrell Williams of Blanchard; two brothers, Darrell Williams and Ray Williams, both of Blanchard; two sisters, Glenda Whinery of Paso Robles, Calif., and Brenda Meier of Elk City; and five grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Edna Virginia Davis GUYMON, Okla. - Edna Virginia Davis, 65, a former Kingfisher resident, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. Memorial services and interment of the cremains will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sunnylane Cemetery in Del City with the Rev. Kevin Rodgers, pastor of Kingfisher Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by HensonNovak Funeral Home of Guymon. Mrs. Davis was born and raised in Hulbert. She spent her later years in the Kingfisher area before moving to Guymon in 1997. She worked as a nurse's aide and attended the Baptist church. She was preceded in death by two sons. Survivors include a daughter, Suzi Moore of Guymon; a son Carl "Bob" Pickens of Kingfisher; two sisters, Arlene Golden of Newalla and Carline Lopez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Forbes was born in Pioneer and moved to Andrews in 1960 from Odessa. He was owner / operator of Andrews Auto Parts for 14 years and of Bill's Auto Parts in Andrews for the past nine years. He had been involved in the Andrews Sheriff Posse Club. He married Graciela Salcido in 1990 at Andrews. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Bill Forbes of Wimberley, Jim Forbes of Abernathy and John Salcido, George Salcido and Jacob Forbes, all of Andrews; two daughters, Carolyn Oglesby of Amarillo and Karina Trevino of Andrews; three sisters, Elva Thompson of Midland, Maurie Woods of San Angelo and Murel Bennatte of Mineral Wells; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Alvie Hancock SLATON - Alvie Hancock, 94, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Englunds Funeral Service Chapel with Jack Gordon, minister of the Church of Christ, officiating. Graveside committal service will be in Englewood Cemetery. Mrs. Hancock was born in Comanche. She had lived in Abernathy and Carlisle before moving to Slaton in 1934. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ, Slaton Senior Citizens and the Blue Bonnets. She married L.A. Hancock in 1923. He preceded her in death in 1978. Survivors include three daughters, Billie West and Corinne Leake, both of Slaton, and Bobbie Seiderman of Canyon; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
