Foster officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Rochester Cemetery at Rochester by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Adkins was born in Winters. She attended Hardin-Simmons University for three years. She married Jess W. "Bud" Adkins in 1967 at Tye. She moved to Quanah in 1994 from Altus, Okla., and was the librarian for Reagan Elementary School. She was a member of and the pianist at First Baptist Church. She also had served as organist and pianist at churches in Colorado City, Rochester, Tye, Lawn, Abilene, Hamlin, Breckenridge, Vernon and Bledsoe. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jeffery W. of Lubbock and Corey M. of Bowie; a daughter, Heather B. of Quanah; two sisters, Laverne Hallman and Ruthell Crooks, both of Lubbock; and three grandchildren. Phillip Wayne Appling FLOYDADA - Phillip Wayne Appling, 73, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. He married Bertha Wallace in 1945 at Mount Blanco. They moved to the Texas Panhandle and made their home six miles southwest of Follett. They were engaged in farming. She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son. Mrs. Broyles had lived at Twin Oaks Manor in Booker since 1989. She was a member of Follett Baptist Church. Maurice Henry Bernson CANADIAN - Maurice Henry Bernson, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Abraham Memorial Home with Roger Smelser, senior minister at First Christian Church, and Wayne Baker of Canadian officiating. Private burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery. The services are being conducted by volunteers of the Abraham Home. Mr. Bernson was born in Canadian. He graduated from Canadian High School and attended West Texas State College. He served with the Air Force in the 394th Bombing Group and the 584th Squadron. He was stationed in India, France and Germany. He was an artist and had provided the artwork for the 1994 Fall Foliage Festival poster. Before moving into the Abraham Home, he volunteered by creating paper murals and painting the Activity Room. Mr. Bernson was a member of First Christian Church. She graduated from Grayford High School. She married Arnold Paul Langfeldt in 1927 at Lockney. He died in 1966. She retired as the postmaster at Aiken after 23 years of service. She moved to Plainview in 1965 from Aiken. Mrs. Langfeldt was a Methodist. She was a Pink Lady with the hospital auxiliary and a member and past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Cole of Plainview; and two grandchildren. Micky Hearne MEMPHIS - Micky Hearne, 71, a former Memphis resident, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, in Tyler. She married Cecil C. Jones in 1942 at Amarillo. They had been active in square dancing and they served as presidents of the Texas Square Dance Association in the 1960s. Mr. Jones died in 1991. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. She married J.A. Phipps in 1930 at Sayre, Okla. He died in 1984. She also was preceded in death by a son, Olen Edward Phipps, in 1988. Strader SANTA FE, N.M. - Helen W. Strader, 86, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel at Clovis. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens at Clovis. Mrs. Strader was born in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended Texas Christian University. She and her husband, Robert J. "Bob" Strader, lived in Plainview, Texas, for 17 years before moving to Clovis in 1950. Mr. Strader preceded her in death. Mrs. Strader recently moved to Santa Fe from Clovis, where she had lived for 47 years. She was a genealogist and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as regent of the chapter in Clovis / Portales. She published a genealogy book, "Our Wandering Whitleys," the history of her father's family. She was a member of Central Christian Church and later of Gateway Christian Church. She also was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Strader Jr. Survivors include by a grandson, Robert J. Howard Thurman Rhoton CLAYTON, N.M. - Howard Thurman Rhoton, 86, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Rammage, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors. Mr. Rhoton was born in Stephenville, Texas. He moved to Clayton with his family in 1918. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1930. He married Velma Irene Burnett in 1931 at Clayton. They lived and farmed in the Union County area for more than 60 years. Mr. Rhoton was a member of First Baptist Church and a past member of Clayton Lodge No. 45 of the Independent Order of the Oddfellows. Oklahoma Otis Hillary Griffin OKLAHOMA CITY - Otis Hillary Griffin, 64, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Griffin was born in Oklahoma City and attended school there. He joined the Navy in 1951 and served in Korea aboard the destroyer USS Cunningham. He was discharged in 1954. He was a corporate pilot for 20 years. He moved to Amarillo in 1982 from Oklahoma City and continued flying. Survivors include his wife, Rosaland; a daughter, Lori R. Mary Margaret Conklin GUYMON, Okla. - Mary Margaret Conklin, 89, a former Guymon resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in Winter Haven, Fla. Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mrs. Conklin was born in Larned, Kan. She moved to Texas County with her parents in 1916, settling on a farm five miles south of Guymon. She married Robert "Bob" W. Conklin in 1928 at Guymon. They lived in Texas for a short while before returning to Guymon, where they farmed until 1970. They then moved to Connecticut. Mr. Conklin died in 1975. After his death, she returned to Guymon, where she lived until 1985, when she moved to Winter Haven. Mrs. Conklin was a longtime member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church and of Guymon Chapter No. 419 of the Order of Eastern Star, where she had been a member for more than 50 years. Survivors include a daughter, Bobbie Gonzalez of Winter Haven; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He moved to Dallas in 1988 and graduated from Rockwall High School in 1990. He was a 1995 graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas, receiving a degree in psychology. He was working part time as a bartender and waiter and also attending school part time, waiting to get into chiropractic school. Survivors include his father, Tom Seitz of Round Rock; his mother, Linda Gail Brown of Rowlett; and grandmother, Dorothy Brown of Pampa. The family requests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Wayne Darren Staggs EASTLAND - Wayne Darren "Dan" Staggs, 69, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998. Mr. Staggs was born in Tillman County, Okla. He attended ACU and Oklahoma University Pharmacy School. He owned and operated drugstores in Littlefield, Amarillo and Ruidoso, N.M. He married Dovie Fay Taylor in 1950. They moved to Eastland in 1985 and were the owners and operators of KEAS radio station. Mr. Staggs was a member of Daugherty Street Church of Christ. He was active in several civic organizations such as the chamber of commerce. He was a charter member of Eastland County Crimestoppers. Survivors include his wife; four children, Lynn Staggs of Lubbock, Ron Staggs and Cliff Staggs, both of Aiken, S.C., and Elisha Bayless of Eastland; his mother, Mopaul Staggs of Haskell, Okla.; a brother, Brant Staggs of Haskell, Okla.; a sister, Sharon Cook of Sayville, N.Y.; and 12 grandchildren.
