Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Church of Christ in Paducah with Dr. Mike Henderson of Childress and Bill Mayes, minister of Childress Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery at Paducah by Seigler Funeral Home of Paducah. Mrs. Hageman was born in San Augustine and moved to Cottle County in the 1920s. She had lived in Arizona and Lubbock for several years before returning to Paducah in 1971. In 1986, she moved to Childress. She retired as a medical lab technician and was a member of the Church of Christ. She married A.C. Hageman in 1927 at Paducah. He died in 1991. Survivors include a son, Charles Hageman of Midland; a daughter, Alice Ann Clark of Childress; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a greatgreat grandchild. Altha Townsend Kirk SPEARMAN - Altha Townsend Kirk, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church in Spearman with the Rev. Ken Cole officiating and special remarks given by Dr. Ajith Fernando of Sri Lanka. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mrs. Kirk was born and raised in Burkburnett where she graduated from high school. She married Russell H. Townsend in 1933 at Vernon and moved to Spearman in 1944. He died in 1980. In Spearman, Mrs. Kirk was secretary to the State Farm Bureau agent, the Hansford County Home Demonstration agent and the Spearman public school system. She retired in 1989 from the First United Methodist Church where she was secretary for the Rev. Wesley Daniel, the Rev. H.O. Abbott, the Rev. Frank Oglesby, the Rev. Albert Lindley, the Rev. Lane Boyd and the Rev. Todd Dyess. In 1955, Mrs. Kirk was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi, chapter Rho Rho, and received the BSP "Order of the Rose". She was a member of Laureate Gamma Gamma, Music Club of Spearman, the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was voted Chamber of Commerce, Women's Division, Member of the Year in 1979. Her second marriage was in 1987 to Herbert T. Kirk of Stinnett who preceded her in death in 1997. She also was preceded in death by a son, Charles Russell Townsend, in February. Survivors include a son, Lt. Col. Kenneth W. Townsend, USAF Ret., of Newport News, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, Spearman. Roland, Spearman, TX 79081. Amarillo Elena P. Montes Elena P. Montes, 55, died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Hector Madrigal officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage. Mrs. Montes was born in El Paso where she graduated from Bowie High School. She moved to Amarillo in 1985. She was a homemaker and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She married Al Montes in 1964 at El Paso. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Yvette Goodson of Lubbock and Nanette Montes of Amarillo; a son, Alex Montes of Lubbock; her mother, Martha Zubia of El Paso; two sisters, Amanda Maldonado and Margie Zubia, both of El Paso; and three brothers, Augustin Morales and David Zubia, both of El Paso, and Silver Zubia of California. The family will be at 2901 S. Marrs. Betty Johnson Betty Johnson, 64, of Amarillo, died Thursday Oct. 8, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memory Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Ronnie Tucker of Friendship Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road. Mrs. Johnson was born in Oklahoma and moved to Amarillo in 1938. She retired 10 years ago after 40 years as a waitress. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Johnson, in 1974. Survivors include three sons, Don Powell of Amarillo, Dale Johnson of Dallas and Harry Johnson in California with the Marines; three daughters, Mary Armstrong, Sherry Dennison and Betty Himes, all of Amarillo; a brother, Bill Loflin of Amarillo; a sister, Ella Jane Gabbert of Tulsa; and 14 grandchildren. The family will be at 919 Foxglove. Hazel P. Harris Hazel P. Harris, 64, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998. She attended school in Borger and graduated from Abilene High School in 1952. She was a homemaker. In 1960 she moved from Borger to Amarillo. She married Leonard Harris in 1952 at Borger. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Terrie Stewart and Charlotte Tiller, both of Amarillo; three sisters, Ruth Jones and Mary Patterson, both of Abilene, and Betty Medina of New York City; two granddaughters; and two greatgrandchildren. Ron Avey Ron Avey, 67, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Comanche Trail Church of Christ with ministers Loran Harper and Jerry Klein officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Avey was born in Lindsey, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo since 1969. He received his associate's degree in industrial maintenance from Amarillo College. For 25 years, he was a printer for the El Paso Times and Amarillo Globe-News. After 17 years, Mr. Avey retired from maintenance with Asarco. He was a New Mexico National Guard veteran having served at Fort Buss. He was a member of Comanche Trail Church of Christ. Mr. Avey was a partner in the R&R racing team. He was a former race car driver and car owner. He married Louetta Goodin in 1954 at Anthony, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Karen Avey Howard of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Linda Karr of Amarillo; a son, Terry Allen Avey of Amarillo; and seven grandchildren. O'Grady, 67, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Field, pastor of Southeast Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. O'Grady was born in Amarillo where he was a lifelong resident. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and self-employed as a glazer. He married Joyce Vaughn in 1955 at Tucumcari, N.M. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Susan Spencer of Amarillo, Paula Carney of Odessa and Teresa Carney of Canyon; a son, Patrick O'Grady of Amarillo; two brothers, Patrick O'Grady of Amarillo and James O'Grady of Lake Tanglewood; and nine grandchildren. The family will be at 2929 S. Hodges. New Mexico W.C. McCoy TUCUMCARI, N.M. - W.C. "Calvin" McCoy, 79, died Friday, Oct., 9, 1998 in Skiatook, Okla. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bob Civil, minister of Trinity Baptist Church of Tucumcari, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot of Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. McCoy was born in Cisco, Texas and had been a longtime resident of Tucumcari. He was an Army veteran of World War II. For many years, he owned and operated the Tucumcari Concrete Co. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Doris; a daughter, Judy Jasper of Tucumcari; two sons, Bill McCoy of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Craig McCoy of Fort Worth; three sisters, Lou Ellen Hembree of Skiatook, Fern Cox of Littlefield, Texas, and Alice Burgee of Lubbock, Texas; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing from this morning until time of services Tuesday in Dunn Memorial Chapel. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity in memory of Calvin McCoy. Elsewhere Billie Jo Courtney CORPUS CHRISTI - Bille Jo Courtney, 71, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998. In lieu of funeral services, visitation for family and friends will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Seaside Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Mrs. Courtney was born in Fredrick, Okla. She moved in 1966 to Amarillo, where she and her husband built a restaurant business. In 1993, she moved to Corpus Christi where she was active with the Padre Island Enrichment Club. She married James "J.R." Courtney 50 years ago. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Fredrick and Wichita Falls. She supported her husband's work in the Shrine Temple and Shriner's Children's Hospitals. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dennis Courtney and Bill Courtney, both of Corpus Christi; seven sisters, Anitia Russell of Wichita, Kan., and Corinna Schriener, Larue Church and Dossie Fisher, all of Fredrick, Ann Woods of Granbury, Patsy Robertson of Lewisville and Marita Cronin of Snyder, Okla.; and a brother, James Butcher of Wichita. Mildred LaFever LUBBOCK - Mildred LaFever, 80, died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Foster Johnson, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Rix Funeral Directors of Lubbock. Mrs. LaFever was born in Delta County and moved with her family to Childress in 1924. With her husband, she lived in Childress, Dumas, Amarillo and Hereford before moving to Lubbock in 1993. In Amarillo, Mrs. LaFever was a salesperson for C.R. Anthony Co., and Fedway Department Stores. She was a homemaker and member of Second Baptist Church of Lubbock. She married Horace LaFever in 1940 at Goodlett. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Lou Ann LaFever and Sue Ann Hill, both of Lubbock; a sister, Dorothy Weightman of Weatherford; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Child Development Center at Second Baptist Church, 5300 Elgin Ave., Lubbock, TX 79413; or to a favorite charity.
