Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Hugg was born in Anona and had lived in Amarillo since 1939. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, in 1986. Survivors include two daughters, Edwina Hancock and Bette Hugg, both of Amarillo; three sisters, Faye Kunkel of Canyon, Juanita Kunkel of Amarillo and Eula Mae Vogt of Missouri City; a brother, David Miller of Katy; and a grandchild. Harold Truxton Cobb Harold Truxton Cobb, 73, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Coulter Road Baptist Church, 4108 S. Coulter, with the Rev. Larry Payne, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Cobb was born in Mercer, Ky. He lived in Amarillo for several years before moving to Owensboro, Ky., then returning to Amarillo for a year. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a truck driver for 47 years. Mr. Cobb was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of American Legion, Amarillo Senior Citizens Association, Temple Baptist Church in Owensboro and attended Coulter Road Baptist Church. He married Leta Mae Armstrong in 1970 at Wheeler. He was preceded in death by a son, Lonnie Cobb, in 1994. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harold Truxton Cobb and Thomas Lee Cobb, both of St. Paul, Minn.; two stepsons, Leslie W. Lee of Hurst and David R. Lee of Pampa; two stepdaughters, Lynna R. Johnson Winston B. Johnson, 56, of Amarillo, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Mr. Johnson was born in Amarillo and had lived here for 20 years. He studied music and was a trumpet player. He attended Westcliff Bible Church. Mariner James H. Mariner, 53, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with R.A. Tindall, elder of Primitive Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Mariner was born and raised in Amarillo where he graduated from Tascosa High School. He was employed as the grounds supervisor for Amarillo State Center. He married Jean Hathcock in 1964 at Wellington. Survivors include his wife; a son, Andrew Mariner of Amarillo; two daughters, Lora Davidson and Adrienne Mariner, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Beth Baker and Peggy Killham, both of Amarillo; and five grandchildren. The body will not be available for viewing. Cremation will be by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors. The family will be at 2218 S. Ong. Elsewhere Gladys E. McMillen LUBBOCK - Gladys E. McMillen, 93, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in South Fairview Cemetery at Wellington with the Rev. Harold Moore of Wellington officiating. Arrangements are by Geo. C. Price Funeral Directors of Levelland. Mrs. McMillen was born in Cooper and moved to Pampa in 1955 from Wellington. She moved to Lubbock in 1984 from Pampa. She graduated from Wellington High School and received a bachelor's degree from West Texas State College in 1947 and her master's degree in 1954. She taught school in Wellington from 1925 until 1955. She then taught in Pampa from 1955 until 1966. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lubbock. She married Cecil Leggitt in 1930 at Hollis, Okla. He died in 1952. She married Aaron Meek in 1957 at Dumas. He died in 1959. She married Roy McMillen in 1966 at Pampa. He died in 1976. Survivors include a son, Jim Leggitt of Levelland; two sisters, Julia Van Bebber of Clemson, S.C., and Mildred Laycock of Pampa; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. W.H. Marshall ROARING SPRINGS - W.H. "Buck" Marshall, 85, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Roaring Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnnie Williams, retired Methodist minister of Lubbock, and the Rev. Rickey Lawrence, pastor of Full Gospel Church, officiating. Burial will be in Roaring Springs Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mr. Marshall was born in Dickens County and was a lifelong resident of Roaring Springs. He was a member of First Christian Church. A retired farmer and stockman, he had served on the Motley County SCS board for many years. He was a member of Roaring Springs Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge, served as director for Motley-Dickens County Old Settlers Association and the Afton Farmers Cooperative. He married Bessie Mae Smiley in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Wheeler of Lubbock; two sisters, Virgie Bannister of Plainview and Tressie Warren of Matador; and three granddaughters. Oklahoma Charlie A. Karns WOODWARD, Okla. - Charlie A. "Chuck" Karns, 96, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Zwanziger Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnnie Sharpton officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Karns was born near Woodward in a dugout. He worked with the WPA in the 1930s. For a number of years, he was employed by Long Bell Lumber. He attended the Methodist Church. He is survived by a brother, Harry Karns of Woodward. Pearl Ethel Davis FORGAN, Okla. - Pearl Ethel Davis, 95, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Forgan United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Forgan Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service of Beaver. Mrs. Davis was born in Dacoma, Oklahoma Territory. She attended school and has been a resident of Beaver County for the past 75 years. She was a homemaker and was the cook for the school for many years. She married Harley Davis in 1920 at Dacoma. He preceded her in death in 1991. Survivors include a son, Harley L. Davis of Fairfield, Calif.; two daughters, Betty Stickler and Joyce Day, both of Turpin; a brother, Loyd Ross of Dacoma; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Area Rubye Inez Culpepper PAMPA - Rubye Inez Culpepper, 87, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Dr. Jim Prock, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Culpepper was born in Moran and has been a Pampa resident since 1938. In 1976, she retired after working for Woolworth's for 33 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married James M. Culpepper in 1933 at Amarillo. Survivors include her husband; a son, Billy James Culpepper of Warrensburg, Mo.; a daughter, Linda Gail Shultz of Bedford; a sister, Edith Williams of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. The family requests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Pampa. G.R. Lockhart PAMPA - G.R. "Skip" Lockhart, 77, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Bethany Cemetery in Erin, Tenn., with the Rev. Billy Russell of Hopkinsville, Ky., officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Lockhart was born in Houston County, Tenn., and graduated from Erin High School where he played basketball. In 1942, he entered the Navy and served in the South Pacific. He moved to Pampa from Moline, Kan., in 1954. Mr. Lockhart was employed by Wagner and Wyant Drilling Co., then worked for Leonard Hudson Drilling Co., for 30 years. He retired in 1988. He was a Methodist and a member of Hope Masonic Lodge No. 155 AF&AM in Howard, Kan. Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Lockhart of Ten Sleep, Wyo.; two sons, Robert Lockhart of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Raymond Lockhart of Pampa; a brother, Thomas Lockhart of Erin; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be until 8 p.m. Sunday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home. Harold Garvin Watts FLOYDADA - Harold Garvin "Red" Watts, 78, of Sand Hill, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church of Floydada with the Rev. Wendell Horn, pastor, and the Rev. Charles E. Lutrick, retired Methodist minister of Lubbock, officiating. Burial will be in Floyd County Memorial Park by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home of Floydada. Mr. Watts was born in Saint Jo and attended school in Union Hill before graduating from Happy in 1937. He attended West Texas State University as a pre-med major until his National Guard unit was mobilized for war in 1940. Mr. Watts was assigned to the Army Air Corps and received his pilot's wings in 1942. He then moved to Georgia to train in an A-36 dive bomber. Following his training, he was assigned first to North Africa, then to Italy as a member of the 525th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 86th Fighter Group. Achieving the rank of captain, Mr. Watts was honored in his squadron's recently published history as one who "brought back aircraft so badly damaged that one could only stare in disbelief that such a wreck could fly." He completed 80 missions and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with several Oak Leaf Clusters. From 1944 until 1946, he was a P-51 Mustang instructor. After his discharge, Mr. Watts returned to WTSU until he began farming in Lockney and Floydada in 1947. He owned and operated Barwise Ginn from 1956 until 1975 and was one of the organizers of the Independent Ginners Association. Mr. Watts served on the board of directors for both the Floyd County Fat Stock Show and the Floydada Country Club. He attended the First Methodist Church. He married Meda Ruth Thomas in 1942. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Dr. Thomas E. Watts of The Woodlands, Samuel M. Watts of Odessa, Dr. Danny D. Watts of Austin and Ricky D. Watts of Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Janet Watts Courtroul of Midland; a brother, James D. Watts of Madiera Beach, Fla.; a sister, Connie Watts Wilson of Dallas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Frankie Mae Angton SHAMROCK - Frankie Mae Angton, 38, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Bowers Cemetery in Shamrock. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Angton was born in Shamrock and was a lifelong resident. Survivors include her son, Willie Angton of Erick, Okla.; her father, Franklin D. Roosevelt Angton of Pampa; two sisters, Eva Joyce Morgan of Shamrock and Kathaleen Holmes of Pampa; and a grandchild. Mary Nell Chadwick CLARENDON - Mary Nell Chadwick, 52, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, in Memphis. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Seale, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon. Mrs. Chadwick was born in Groom and was a Clarendon resident for 22 years before moving to Wellington seven years ago. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Charles Lee "Doc" Chadwick Sr., in 1968 at Memphis. He preceded her in death in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Helen Fowler of Wellington; three sons, Charles Lee Chadwick of Wellington, Billy Gene Chadwick of Clarendon and Tommy Gene Chadwick of Edgewood, N.M.; three sisters, Flora Downey of Lubbock, Reba Swinney of Matador and Jessie Shin of Amarillo; a brother, Gary Parker of Lubbock; and nine grandchildren. Raymond Guyton McLEAN - Raymond Guyton, 83, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Hillcrest Cemetery with Jim Reyna, minister of McLean Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Lamb Funeral Home. Mr. Guyton was born in Plainview. He worked in the oil fields from 1937 until 1950 when he moved to McLean. With his wife, he owned and operated Guyton Motor Company from 1950 until the present. He married Lorene Tennison in 1934 at Shamrock. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry Ray Guyton of Duncan, Okla.; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. Blanche Boyle FRIONA - Blanche Boyle, 89, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Friona United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Boren, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Friona Memorial Park by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Mrs. Boyle was born in Dixie, Okla. She graduated from Weatherford Teacher College and taught school for several years. She was a member of Friona United Methodist Church where she was a member of United Methodist Women and active in Sunday school. She married James Howard Boyle in 1931 at Granite, Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976, an infant son at birth and by a daughter, Julia Warren, in 1994. Survivors include a sister, Ila Hudgins of Lubbock; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren. Israel Reyes SHAMROCK - Israel Reyes, 59, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998. Private family services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Shamrock Cemetery. Arrangements were by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Reyes was born in Mission and had lived in Shamrock since 1984. He married Maria Espericueta in 1960 at McAllen. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Israel Reyes and Ismael Reyes, both of Shamrock; a daughter, Irene Reyes of Shamrock; two brothers, Nieves Reyes of McAllen and Leo Reyes of Shamrock; a sister, Ismelda Reyes of Plainview; and a grandchild. Wanda Baker LOCKNEY - Wanda Baker, 89, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First United Methodist Church of Lockney with the Rev. Russell Byard, pastor, and Rev. Keith Wiseman, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Lubbock, officiating. Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mrs. Baker was born in Grayson County and moved to Lakeview in 1914, then to Lockney in 1915 where she attended school. In 1928, she earned her teaching certificate from West Texas State College then obtained a degree from Draughon's Business College in 1930. Mrs. Baker was employed at the First National Bank of Lockney from 1930 until 1945. She also was employed by the Baker Mercantile Co., Barker Chevrolet as a bookkeeper and Lockney General Hospital as a manager. She was a bookkeeper for the family businesses and prepared income tax returns for Floyd County residents from 1935 until the early 1990s. In 1920, Mrs. Baker became a member of the First United Methodist Church where she served as church financial auditor, member of the board of trustees and the church board. She held several offices in the United Methodist Women's group and was a member of the church's Fellowship Hall Building committee. Mrs. Baker was a charter member of the Lockney Business and Professional Women's Club and the Birthday Bridge Club. She became a Silver Life Master with the American Contract Bridge League in 1995. She was named Floyd County Pioneer Woman of the Year in 1977. She married Dorsey Baker in 1933 at Fort Sumner, N.M. He preceded her in death in February. Survivors include two sons, Norton Baker and Dorsey Lynn Baker, both of Lubbock; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church.
