Bell PLAINVIEW - William P. Bell, 97, died Sunday, April 12, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Borger, with Richard Kasko, minister of Church of Christ at Borger, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Love in Westlawn Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Bell was a native of Mount Pleasant. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He retired as shift foreman of Columbian Carbons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, and a son, Billy Bell, and a grandson, all in 1997. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Doris Jean Bell of Borger; his grandson, Gary Bell of Tyler; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Arthur B. Miller PETERSBURG - Arthur B. Miller, 83, died Saturday, April 11, 1998. Services will be at 4 p.m. todayin First Baptist Church with Lee Couch, retired Methodist minister of Lamesa, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Miller was born in Altus, Okla., and moved to Petersburg in 1958. He was an Army veteran of World War II with the 3rd Division, 30th Infantry in the amphibious invasion of North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. Mr. Miller worked with youths in baseball and tennis. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Petersburg, Order of Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Senior Citizens and RSVP. He married Mary Miller in 1941 at Plainview. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Henderson of Big Lake; two sons, Junebug Miller of Petersburg and Ellis Miller of Miami; two brothers, Porter Miller of Andrews and Coy Miller of Grass Valley, Calif.; special friends, Keith Biggers of South Lake, Jim Paul Young of Levelland, Mark Hegi of Petersburg and Dennis Bruington of Waco; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Keith Burton DUMAS - Keith Burton, 51, died Saturday, April 11, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lenora United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Riley Cemetery by Shaw Funeral Home in Vici, Okla. Mr. Burton is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Burton of Dumas. The body will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. today in Hunt Memorial United Methodist Church in Dumas. Amarillo Faye N. Carver Faye N. Carver, 95, of Amarillo, died Friday, April 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Stan Fortenberry of First Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Carver was born in Foreman, Ariz. She moved to Amarillo in 1955 from Quanah. She was a homemaker and member of First Assembly of God. She was married to W.D. Carver Sr., who preceded her in death in 1955. Survivors include two sons, Travis Dale Carver and W.D. "Dub" Carver, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Hazel Austin of Cottonwood, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The family will be at 2402 W. First. GENTRY James Darren Potts Gentry James Darren Potts Gentry, 17, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998. Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity Fellowship Church with Brent Childers, pastor of Village Park Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Gentry was born in Olney, Ill., and first moved to Amarillo in 1981. He returned to Illinois in 1985 then moved back to Amarillo in 1992 from Houston. Mr. Gentry was a senior at Highland Park High School. He had been involved in track, basketball, art, poetry, and F.H.A. He had enlisted in the Air Force to become a nuclear arms weapons specialist in July. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kayla Raylyn Gentry, in 1984. Survivors include his parents, Rock and Valorie Gentry of Amarillo; his twin brother, Joseph Warren Potts Gentry of Amarillo; two sisters, Andrea Potts Gentry and Autumn Gentry, both of Amarillo; his grandparents, Cecil Garner of Amarillo, Gene Potts of Bridgeport, Ill., and Ray and Kenlyn Gentry of Atkinson, Ill.; and his great-grandparents, James Eldon Potts of Bridgeport and Lillian Jones of Green Rock, Ill. Smith Carl M. Smith, 81, of Amarillo, died Friday, April 10, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Amarillo Second Ward, with Bill Boswell, bishop, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Smith was born in Stratford, Okla., and graduated from Stratford High School. He received his bachelor's degree in biology from East Central State in Oklahoma. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Smith moved to Amarillo in 1952 from Lubbock. He was employed by Pantex in 1952 and retired as industrial relations manager in 1987. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Vilda M. Taylor in 1945 at Las Cruces, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Robert J. Barton of Amarillo and Ronald L. Barton of Ashland, Ore.; a daughter, Carla M. Dirk of Las Vegas; a brother, Prentiss Smith of Augusta, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Johnson Mallory Whitsett Johnson Mallory Whitsett, 89, of Amarillo, died Sunday, April 12, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Polk Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by BlackburnShaw Funeral Directors, Fifth at Pierce St. Mr. Whitsett was born in Waterloo, Ala. He attended the University of Oklahoma. He moved to Amarillo, where he was vice-president and sales manager of Smyth Auto Supply. In 1964, he moved to Dallas, where he was part owner and president of Star Automotive Warehouse until his retirement. After his retirement, he returned to Amarillo. Mr. Whitsett was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Dallas, where he served as chairman of the board, chairman of the budget committee, chairman of finance, and was a member of the Evangelism Program and his Sunday School class. In Amarillo, he was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church, where he was on the administrative board, chairman of the budget drive, an usher, a member of the 50-50 class and served on the council of ministries. He married Myrtle Brooks in 1939 at San Antonio. She died in August of 1997. Survivors include his son, J. Mal Whitsett of Amarillo; and a grandson. The family will be at 6004 Dartmouth. They request memorials be to the television ministry of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Earl Wilson Woodson Earl Wilson Woodson, 92, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 11, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. todayin North Amarillo Church of Christ with Glen Walton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Woodson was born in Middleton, Tenn. He retired as helium operator at the Exell Helium Plant. He was a member of the North Amarillo Church of Christ. He married Dora Alice Packer in 1927 at Vernon. She died in 1968. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Ema Jean Woodson. Survivors include two sons, Clarence Jasper Woodson of Muleshoe and Curtis Edward Woodson of Arlington; three daughters, Melba Ruth Welch of Whitesboro, Norma Jean Cavender of Riley, N.C., and Earlene Pryne of Dumas; three brothers, Mack Woodson of Gladewater, Melvin Woodson of California and Ray Woodson of Paris; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Georgia. Mrs. Thomason was a member of the First Church of God. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Lee; two daughters, Thresa Dolores Thomason of Fairview and Marilyn Lee Bickel of Eric, Colo; a son, Rick Thomason of Amarillo; her mother, Amber Martin of Lamesa; a sister, Pansy Jackson of Lamesa; a brother, Elroy Martin of San Angelo; nine grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild. The family request that memorials be to Feed the Children. yyyyTimbercreek Canyon Kathryn Mae Jones Tunnicluff Kathyrn Mae "Kay" Jones Tunnicliff, 73, of Timbercreek Canyon, died Sunday, April 12, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage, Amarillo, with the Rev. Marvin James, pastor of Lake Tanglewood Community Church, officiating. Burial will be Friday in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee, Ill. Mrs. Tunnicliff was born in Kewanee, graduating from Kewanee High School in 1943. She attended St. Anne's School of Nursing in Chicago. She enlisted in the Cadet Nursing Corps to serve in World War II. Mrs. Tunnicliff moved to Amarillo in 1975 and to Timbercreek Canyon in 1978. When Timbercreek Canyon incorporated as a village, she served as village secretary for a year and as treasurer for nine years. She was homemaker, part-time nurse and active volunteer. Mrs. Tunnicliff was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and attended Lake Tanglewood Community Church. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and the Nature Center. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter B and New Neighbors. She married Ed M. Tunnicliff in 1947. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kass Schreiber of Fort Collins, Colo., and Heidi Summers of Woodbridge, Va.; two sons, Brock Tunnicliff of Phoenix and Mark Tunnicliff of Traverse City, Mi.; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
