Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Miller was born in Chillicothe and moved to Pampa in 1932. She was a homemaker. She married Monroe Miller in 1939 at Pampa. He died in 1973. Survivors include two daughters, Merdella Hughes and Dawna Mauldin, both of Pampa; a son, Richard Miller of Bakersfield, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Jimmy Nance KRESS - Jimmy "Jim" Nance, 44, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, in Castle Rock, Colo. Mr. Nance was born in Clovis, N.M., and was raised in the Dimmitt and Springlake-Earth areas. He graduated from Springlake-Earth High School in 1974. He had lived in Kermit and Amarillo before moving to Kress. He married Juanita Rodriquez in 1990. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cathy Gonzales of Amarillo, Lisa Gonzales of South Plains and Sylvia Gonzales of Kress; three sons, David Gonzales Jr., Robert Gonzales and Marcos Gonzales, all of Amarillo; his parents, Marcellus and Lillie Nance of Hart; two brothers, Marcellus Nance Jr., of Los Angeles and George Nance of Houston; four sisters, Lillie Molden of Plainview, Barbara Watson of Pueblo, Colo., Helen Nance of Sacramento, Calif., and Ida Mae Randon of Mesa, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Sudan. She married Jack Hill in 1925 at Lipan. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975, and a son, Donald Hill, in 1987. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas. Mrs. Drake was born in Muleshoe, was a former resident of Canyon and had lived in Conlen for six years. She had been a Stratford resident since 1974. She was a homemaker and member of First Assembly of God Church of Stratford. She married Larry Drake in 1964 at Canyon. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Leslie Moody of Westbrook; a son, Todd Drake of Stratford; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.L. Gene Edward Haliburton VEGA - Gene Edward Haliburton, 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Vega United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Phillips, pastor, and Dr. Jordon Grooms, retired United Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega by Vega Funeral Home. Mr. Haliburton was born in Vega. He graduated from Vega High School, then received his degree and teacher's certification from West Texas State University. He was a lifelong resident of Vega. During World War II, Mr. Haliburton served as a finance officer with the Army. He was the tax assessor/collector for the Vega Independent School District for many years. He retired from VISD as business manager. Mr. Haliburton was a former member and president of the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Vega United Methodist Church. He married Louise Cleland in 1937. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cynthia Brown of Adrian; a sister, Ruth Haliburton of Vega; and a brother, Jim Haliburton of Vega. Juanita Marie Hoyt CANADIAN - Juanita Marie Hoyt, 75, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church in Canadian with the Rev. Lewis Holland, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors of Canadian. Mrs. Hoyt was born in Ryan, Okla., and moved to Canadian in 1968. For 25 years, she was a scrub technician at Hemphill County Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canadian. She married Charles Hoyt in 1962. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Vernita Martinez of Waurika, Okla., and Lorraine Davis and Shirley Neal, both of Wichita, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Monte Hall of Republic, Mo.; two sisters, Joyce Purvis of Lompoc, Calif., and Geneva Rowe of Snyder, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Ebert D. Kelley DALHART - Elbert D. Kelley, 83, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, in Amherst. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery with Gaylord Cook, minister of Dalhart Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home of Dalhart. Mr. Kelley was born in Wolfe City and moved to Dalhart in 1964. He farmed, operated a Texaco station and worked for several years for Putts Fertilizer. In 1983, he joined the Dallam County Sheriff's Department as a jailer. Mr. Kelley retired in 1994. He attended the Church of Christ. He married Artie Haines in 1936 at Muleshoe. She preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, David Kelley of Humble and Fred Kelley of Amarillo; a sister, Gladys Cranfield of Morton; four brothers, Troy Kelley and Al Kelley, both of Greenville, Truman Kelley of Beaumont and Travis Kelley of Morton; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Keith E. Stanley DALHART - Keith E. Stanley, 76, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Wood of the church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home of Dalhart. Mr. Stanley was born and raised in Dumas and graduated from Dumas High School in 1938. He served in World War II with the Coast Guard. After his discharge, he moved to Houston and became a journeyman carpenter. In 1964, he moved to Hartley and ran the Hartley Truck Stop until 1975. He then moved to Dalhart where he was a building contractor until his retirement in 1981. He was a past member of the Dalhart Rotary Club. He was a member and Sunday school teacher of First Baptist Church. He married Jean Ammons in 1953 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Everett Stanley of Dalhart; a daughter, Susie Bressler of Dalhart; and five grandchildren. Porfedio Murray HEREFORD - Porfedio Murray, infant son of Guy and Melissa Murray, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in West Park Cemetery with the Rev. T.E. Lindley WELLINGTON - T.E. "Penny" Lindley, 84, of Lubbock and a former Wellington resident, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Wellington with the Rev. Harry Stallings, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Lindley was born in Tishomingo, Okla., and was an Army veteran of World War II. For 25 years, he was a salesman at Loveless Adams Grocery Brokerage of Lubbock. He moved to Wellington in 1979 and returned to Lubbock last year. He was a Baptist. He married Leoma Neese in 1937 at Hollis, Okla. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janet Claudell Lindley of Lubbock; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Laura Belle Greer Laura Belle Greer, 87, a former Shidler resident, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Weston, pastor, First Christian Church of Fairfax, officiating. Burial will be in Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home. Mrs. Greer was born in Hartshorne, Mo., where she grew up and received her education. Her family moved to Oklahoma in the mid-1920s. She married Claude O. Greer in 1927 and they lived in the Shidler area from 1927 to 1949, when they moved to Dumas. In 1989, she moved to Stroud, Okla., and then to Amarillo in 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of the Dumas First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986 and by a son, Clyde O. Greer. Survivors include a son, Harold E. Greer of Dumas; a daughter, June Greer Rhoten of Fritch; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters. Grace L. Hauke Grace L. Hauke, 82, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Ware Memorial Chapel with Rob Lacey, chaplain, officiating. Inurnment will be in the East Mausoleum at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Hauke was born in Grundy County, Mo. She graduated from Trenton High School in Trenton, Mo. She was a licensed hairdresser, and the latter part of her life she worked as a bookkeeper. She belonged to the Crown Hill Methodist Church in Seattle, as well as the United Methodist Women and Greenwood Eastern Star, both in Seattle. She married Cleo D. Pollard, who preceded her in death in 1965. She married Elmer Hauke, who preceded her in death in 1982. She moved to Amarillo from Trenton in 1989. Survivors include one brother, Robert L. Scott of Jamesport, Mo.; and two sisters, Margaret Buzzard of Garden Grove, Calif., and Charlene Pew of Kansas City, Kan. April LaCasey Renea Cox April LaCasey Renea Cox, 14, of Amarillo, died Monday, July 20, 1998. Private services were held in Lubbock with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were by Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock. Miss Cox was born and raised in Lubbock where she also attended schools. She had lived in Fort Worth briefly before moving to Amarillo. She had been a student at Travis Middle School. She enjoyed drawing. Survivors include her mother, Renea Cox of Lubbock; her father, Randy Cox of Fort Worth; two brothers, Cory Pendleton and Randy Joe Cox, both of Amarillo; a sister, Nicole Cox of Amarillo; her grandparents, W.C. and Lois Pendleton of Amarillo; and her great-grandparents, Bill Adams of Amarillo and Marie Martin of Lubbock. Martha Dickinson White Martha Dickinson White, 89, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church Chapel with the Rev. Tim Tam of the church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors of Amarillo. Mrs. White was born in Gadsden, Ala. After attending Auburn University and West Texas State Teachers College, she graduated from Monte Vallo College. She had been an Amarillo resident for more than 65 years. Mrs. White taught elementary school in Amarillo for several years, then taught in the Head Start program for AISD. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She married L.A. White in 1938 at Amarillo. He preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by her son, Dr. L.A. White Jr., of Amarillo; and two granddaughters. The family suggests memorials be to the Presbyterian Children's Home. Frankie L. Jones Mrs. Frankie L. Jones, 89, of Amarillo, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. Hughes in Amarillo. Mrs. Jones was born in Oakwood and had been an Amarillo resident since 1943. She was a restaurant cook. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Dunson J.B. "Buddy" Dunson, 72, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. David Evans, pastor, and the Rev. Georgia St. Mr. Dunson was born in Pine Spring and was a longtime Amarillo resident. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. For 31 years, he was employed by Navajo/ABF Freight Lines. Mr. Dunson was a member of the Auxiliary at High Plains Baptist Hospital for 15 years. He was a member and a deacon of Trinity Baptist Church. He married Janie Wells in 1945 at Cleburne. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Farmer of Blue Springs, Mo.; a son, Dalan Dunson of Lone Jack, Mo.; a sister, Doris Doak of Cleburne; and a brother, Kenneth Dunson of Cleburne. Survivors include three daughters, Diana Turpin and Gloria Rhoads, both of Clovis, and Donna of Bonham, Texas; a sister, Helen Swetman of Amarillo; a brother, Bud Cain of Amarillo; and numerous grandchildren. Bennie L. Slaughter CLOVIS, N.M. - Bennie L. Slaughter, 76, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in St. John's Baptist Church with the Rev. F.R. Williams officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Slaughter was born in Waco, Texas, and graduated from Anderson High School in Mart, Texas. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and he served in northern France and Europe during World War II. Prior to his discharge in 1946, he received numerous medals. Mr. Slaughter moved to Clovis in 1946 from Waco. In 1983, he retired after 37 years in the car department of the AT&SF Railroad. He married Florence McNeil in 1946 at Clovis. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bennie L. Slaughter Jr., of Santa Fe, Jim and Greg Slaughter, both of Garland, Texas; three daughters, Florence J. Slaughter and Debbra Slaughter, both of Clovis, and Sandra Stewart of Pensacola, Fla.; four brothers, Leroy Slaughter and Jobie Slaughter Jr., both of Waco, and Edward Slaughter and William Howard Slaughter, both of Warner Robins, Ga.; seven sisters, Amy Webster of Houston, Emma Lee Thompson and Opal, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Rosie Bell Haynes, Elizabeth Slaughter, Florence Wydermyer and Katie Sparks, all of Waco; 13 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. Mr. Stong was born in Montgomery County. He graduated from Elk City High School. He served in the Army during World War II. He retired as a truck driver in 1969 and later worked at odd jobs. He married Mary B. Ballenger in 1938 at Elk City. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Russell Stong of Amarillo and K.R. Stong of Grenola; two daughters, Minnie "Pat" McDiarmid and Judy Jewers, both of Independence; two sisters, Aline Bruce of Independence and Ruby Newingham of Elk City; nine grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild. Elmer Wolfe RALLS - Elmer Wolfe, 72, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Adams Funeral Home in Ralls with the Rev. Gary Hubbard, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Wolfe was born in Crestone, Colo. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He moved to Ralls in 1991 from Cannon City, Colo. He formerly was employed as a heavy equipment operator for J.C. Mills in Abernathy for nine years. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1580. He married Elberta May Thompson in 1947 at Salida, Colo. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Edward Wolfe, in 1970, and a daughter, Lydia May Carvalho, in 1994. Survivors include his wife; a son, Harry Wolfe of Ralls; three sisters, Florence Fitch of Maxwell, Neb., Eldora Ladd of Fort Lupton, Colo., and Beulah Sampson of Pahrump, Nev.; two brothers, Joy B. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Holley Funeral Home Inc. of Canyon. Mrs. Cox was born in Oglesby and grew up in Tulia. She married T.B. Cox in 1925 at Canyon. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon, teaching Sunday School for 54 years and serving as pianist or organist for more than 80 years in Sunday School. Survivors include two sons, Rhea Cox of Dawn and Doyle Cox of Amarillo; one daughter, Elaine Cox of Amarillo; one brother, Doyle Hooten of Tulia; 10 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
