Carver Faye N. Carver, 95, of Amarillo, died Friday, April 10, 1998. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 East Interstate 40, with the Rev. Stan Fortenberry of First Assembly of God officiating. Burial was in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Carver was born in Foreman, Ark. She moved to Amarillo in 1955 from Quanah. She was a homemaker and member of First Assembly of God. She was married to W.D. Carver Sr. who preceded her in death in 1955. Survivors include two sons, Travis Dale Carver and W.D. "Dub" Carver, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Hazel Austin of Cottonwood, Ariz.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family will be at 2402 W. First. Johnny Weeden Johnny Weeden, 67, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 11, 1998. No services are scheduled. Cremation was handled by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Mr. Weeden was born in Wheatland, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo since he was 4 months old. He attended Amarillo schools. He was a Marine Corps veteran serving from 1950 until 1956. He worked in the U.S. Marshall's office and then became a deputy with the Randall County Sheriff's Department. At the time of his death, he was employed by Allstate Security. He married Betty Bailey in 1995 in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, John Weeden of Pampa; a daughter, Sheryl Weeden; five stepdaughters, Kim Kendall of California, Pam Davis, Jaime Meyer and Stephanie Rascoe, all of Amarillo, and Brenda Williams of Las Vegas, Nev.; a stepson, Butch Meyer of Amarillo; and 11 grandchildren. Willard Butler LELIA LAKE - Willard "Bud" Butler, 84, of Lelia Lake, died Saturday, April 11, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Llano Mausoleum Chapel with Don Stone, Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Butler was born in Hall County. He was a veteran of the Army. He had been employed as a heavy equipment operator. He lived in Las Vegas, N.M., and Amarillo prior to moving to Lelia Lake after his retirement in 1973. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Betsy Butler Thorne of Amarillo; a sister, Florine Bennett of Clarendon; a brother, W.H. Butler of Graham; and a grandson. The family request memorials be to a favorite charity. Kathryn Mae Jones Tunnicliff Kathyrn Mae "Kay" Jones Tunnicliff, 73, of Timbercreek Canyon, died Sunday, April 12, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage, Amarillo, with the Rev. Marvin James, pastor of Lake Tanglewood Community Church, officiating. Burial will be Friday in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee, Ill. Mrs. Tunnicliff was born in Kewanee, graduating from Kewanee High School in 1943. She attended St. Anne's School of Nursing in Chicago. She enlisted in the Cadet Nursing Corps to serve in World War II. Mrs. Tunnicliff moved to Amarillo in 1975 and to Timbercreek Canyon in 1978. When Timbercreek Canyon incorporated as a village, she served as village secretary for a year and as treasurer for nine years. She was homemaker, part-time nurse and active volunteer. Mrs. Tunnicliff was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and attended Lake Tanglewood Community Church. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and the Nature Center. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter B and New Neighbors. She married Ed M. Tunnicliff in 1947. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kass Schreiber of Fort Collins, Colo., and Heidi Summers of Woodbridge, Va.; two sons, Brock Tunnicliff of Phoenix and Mark Tunnicliff of Traverse City, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Mr. Heckman was born in Franklin Grove, Ill., and had been an Amarillo resident for six months. He was a veteran of the Army. He had been employed as a heavy equipment operator. Survivors include his wife, Alene J. Iwan; a son, the Rev. James L. Evans of Austin; and two grandchildren. He was a Catholic and attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Survivors include his mother, Adelina Silva of Amarillo; two brothers, Robert R. Silva of Amarillo and William L. Silva of San Francisco, Calif.; and a sister, Grace Silva Dennis of Amarillo. Cecil Stephens PORTALES, N.M. - Cecil Stephens, 89, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Lubbock, Texas. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Rasnake and the Rev. Lewis Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Stephens was born in Erick, Okla., and moved with his family to Maple, Texas, in 1925. He married Mildred Butler in 1930 at Portales. He lived in Maple until 1936 when he and his wife and family moved to Portales where he farmed until retiring. They sold their farm about five years ago and moved into town. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he took care of counting the offering and preparing deposits. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sylvia Corder of Clovis; three brothers, Lyndon Stephens of Portales and Doyle Stephens and Loyd Stephens, both of Silverton, Texas; a sister, Theta Holt of Silverton; and three grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home at Portales. Pauline Boler CLOVIS, N.M. - Pauline Boler, 83, died Saturday, April 11, 1998. Mrs. Boler was born in Aransas Pass, Texas. She married D.D. Boler in 1933 at Aransas Pass. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include a brother, Harwood Gristy of San Saba, Texas; and two sisters, Pauline Minter Massie and Myrtice Minter Traweek, both of Aransas. Bob C. Reed CLOVIS, N.M. - Bob C. Reed, 79, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Covington, La. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doug Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories. Mr. Reed was born in Clovis. He married Janell E. Aucutt in 1942 at Portales. She died in September. He also was preceded in death by a son, Carwin Reed in 1985. He was a longtime Clovis resident and farmed and ranched in the Clovis area. He was associated with Sasser Real Estate and Bell Real Estate for many years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Darwin Reed of Covington; and two sisters, Audrey Elliott and Mary Bell, both of Clovis. Oklahoma Alene O. Riggan DEL CITY, Okla. - Alene O. Riggan, 85, died Sunday, April 12, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel. Burial will be in Sunny Lane Cemetery. Mrs. Riggan was born in Paris, Ark. She married Homer D. Riggan in 1932 at Sayre. He died Dec. 11. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and a past member of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include a son, Donald G. Riggan of Amarillo; and two grandsons. Elsewhere Jean Wade Turner PASADENA, Calif. - Jean Wade Turner, a former Amarillo resident, died Saturday, April 11, 1998. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Turner and Stevens Mortuary, 825 Orange Grove, Pasadena, Calif. Mrs. Turner had been an employee of the Amarillo Globe-News from 1964 until her retirement in 1978. In 1976, she was the first woman to be named news editor at the Globe-News. Prior to being named to that position, she was editor of the editorial page. She retired to move to California, where she married former Globe-News artist George Turner. Her journalism career started as a reporter for the Bozeman Daily Chronicle in Montana after her high school graduation. She attended Montana State College, then joined the Women's Army Air Corps as a public relations photographer. After her discharge, she was in public relations with New Jersey Bell Telephone. In 1951, Mrs. Turner returned to newspapers as advertising photographer for the Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph. There she met and married Tom Wade. They worked on papers in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas, including his hometown of Jayton, where they owned and published the weekly Jayton Chronicle for several years. Mrs. Turner and her husband moved to Amarillo in 1964 and both were employed by the Globe-News. Tom Wade died in 1974. In 1976, she published a book, "Wild Animals of the West," which was illustrated by George Turner. Survivors include her husband, George; a daughter, Nora Lee of Altadena, Calif.; a son, Kent Wade of Pasadena, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Norma Lee Gordon ANSON - Norma Lee Gordon, 76, a former Amarillo resident, died Sunday, April 12, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home in Anson with the Rev. Dean Paul Roy officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Gordon was born in the Union community of Jones County. She graduated from Anson High School in 1938. She lived in Lubbock and was a longtime resident of Amarillo. Mrs. Gordon was a cosmetology instructor at the Amarillo College of Hair Design. She retired in 1987 and returned to Anson. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi and Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was a Baptist. She married J.H. Gordon in 1950 at Wellington. He died in 1993. Survivors include two sons, Randy Gordon of Lubbock and Ricky Gordon of Spearman; and three grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Area Opal May Sasser BROWNFIELD - Opal May Sasser, 87, a former Borger resident, died Monday, April 13, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Highland Park Cemetery with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Sasser was born in Konawa, Okla., and was a former longtime Borger resident. She was a housewife and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.H. "Harry" Sasser in 1975. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce C. Johnson of Littlefield; a brother, Woody Cargill of Carmichael, Calif.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Lottie N. Pope DALHART - Lottie N. Pope, 101, died Saturday, April 11, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lincoln Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Rusty Hancock, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home in Dalhart. Mrs. Pope was born in Grove, Okla. She married Albert Riley Pope in 1916 at Warner, Okla. They moved to Borger in 1928, and in 1937, they moved to the Draper community where they bought a farm/ranch. In 1946, they moved into Dalhart. Mr. Pope died in 1987. She was a member of Lincoln Street Baptist Church and taught Sunday school there until she was 97 years old. Survivors include three sons, Irvin W. Pope of Amarillo, Floyd E. Pope of Willard, Alaska; and Delmer C. Pope of Capristrano Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and numerous great- and greatgreat grandchildren. Marie Roberson FRIONA - Marie Roberson, 85, died Monday, April 13, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church of Friona with the Rev. Waide Messer, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney with the Rev. Jerry Griffin officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Miss Roberson was born in Forney and had lived in Friona since 1951. She was a sales clerk in a ladies shop for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by her sister, Inez Hamilton of Friona. The family will be at the Tommy Hamilton residence at 1110 Virginia in Friona. Leon Snell DUMAS - Leon Snell, 75, died Monday, April 13, 1998. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today of Stanton, Connie Crossland of Dumas, Lora Brian of Cuchara, Colo., and Mary Ann Wilson of Amarillo; two nephews, Charles Snell of Amarillo and Gary Snell of Dumas; and 15 great nieces and nephews.
