Sowell HEREFORD - Nelma M. Sowell, 79, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Gililland-Watson Funeral Home Rose Chapel with the Rev. Charles R. Ellingburg, pastor of Dawn Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Sowell was born in Hatchel. She moved from Olton to Deaf Smith County in 1961. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Hereford Rebekah Lodge and First United Methodist Church. She also was active in the Dawn Community Center. She married Edgar Sowell in 1947 at Ballinger. He died in 1987. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Brillhart of Dawn and Daniel Brillhart of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Edna Marie Walker of Gruver; and a granddaughter. The family requests memorials be to the Dawn Community Center or First United Methodist Church. Annie E. Harder HEREFORD - Annie E. Harder, 77, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Frio Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park by Rix Funeral Directors. Mrs. Harder was born in Weatherford, Okla. She married Ernest Harder in 1941. They moved to Hereford in 1952. Mr. Harder died in 1990. She was a homemaker and a member of Frio Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Gerald Harder of Canadian, Norman Harder of Hereford and J.D. Harder of Plainview; two brothers, Arthur Schmidt of Burlington, Colo., and Leonard Schmidt of Lubbock. E.E. Puckett PADUCAH - E.E. Puckett, 72, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Crosby, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories by Seigler Funeral Home. Mr. Puckett was born in Chalk, Cottle County, and had been a longtime resident of Cottle County. For a short period of time, he lived in Lockney and Silverton. He was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of Missionary Baptist Church, and he served on the SCS board for several years. Mr. Puckett was preceded in death by his first wife, Billie Joyce, in 1957. He married Margaret Prater in 1958 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Pat Puckett of Canton; a daughter, Linda Welker of Vernon; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Kelli Glenn Mitchell BOVINA - Kelli Glenn Mitchell, 22, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neely Landrum, pastor, and the Rev. Johnnie Williams of Lubbock officiating. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Miss Mitchell was born in Plainview. She had been a lifetime resident of Bovina, where she was scheduled to graduate from Bovina High School this year. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was the 1980 South Plains March of Dimes Poster Child. Survivors include her parents, Larry Mitchell and Donna Mitchell of Bovina; three brothers, Kory Mitchell of Amarillo, Kevin Mitchell of Lubbock and Michael Waldie of Lindsborg, Kan.; a sister, Keri Waldie of Lindsborg; grandparents, Dean and Arlene McCallum of Bovina, and Martha Tyler of Garland; and a great-grandmother, Montie Turner of Bovina. Wayland Harvey Bagwell CLARENDON - Wayland Harvey Bagwell, 85, a former Clarendon area resident, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, in Florence, Ore. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Citizens Cemetery with the Rev. Truman Ledbetter, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. Mr. Bagwell was born in Hall County. He was a resident of the Clarendon area most of his life until moving to Oregon in 1982. He was employed for several years with the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation before retiring. He was Baptist. Mr. Bagwell married Estella Nettie Martin in 1928 at Lelia Lake. She died in 1982. Survivors include two daughters, Eva Jo Taylor of Westlake, Ore., and Wanda Nell Richerson of Littleton, Colo.; three sons, Bobby D. Bagwell of Wichita Falls, Michael Gene Bagwell of Westport, Wash., and Roy Boy Bagwell of Pearce, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Tex Wayne Naylor HEDLEY - Tex Wayne Naylor, 44, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor of Martin Baptist Church, and the Rev. Bruce Howard, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Tex Naylor Family Cemetery near Hedley. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. of Clarendon. Mr. Naylor was born in Groom. He lived in Etter for 15 years before moving to Hedley. He had been a resident of Donley County most of his adult life. He was a graduate of Hedley High School and of the radio-television technology program at Clarendon College. Mr. Naylor had farmed most of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Linda Mae Lindsey in 1974 at Hedley. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jared Naylor and Ethan Naylor of the home; his mother, Faye Naylor of Hedley; two sisters, Geneva Naylor of Liberal, Kan., and Linda Frye of Fort Worth; and a brother, Tommy Naylor of Memphis. Amarillo Minnie Mae Wood Minnie Mae "Jane" Wood, 94, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998. The family requests memorials be to Temple Baptist Church. A.L. Griggs A.L. "Buddy" Griggs, 88, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998. He moved to Amarillo 20 years ago. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Pipefitter Union 412 in New Mexico. He served with the Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Griggs; two daughters, Paula Welch and Loretta Mayes, both of Amarillo; a sister, Jettie Feazeal of West Monroe, La.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Danny Chambers Danny Chambers, 38, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. He graduated from North Miami Beach High School. He was a hide man in the hide and wool business. He attended First Christian Church. Survivors include his father, Bob G. Chambers of Amarillo; and his grandfather, Ernest H. Eads of Canyon. Mildred Turpen Mildred Turpen, 82, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with Loran Harper, pastor of Comanche Trail Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mrs. Turpen was born in Indian Territory. She moved to Amarillo 17 years ago from Quanah. She was a homemaker and a member of Comanche Trail Church of Christ. She married R.B. Turpen in 1934 at Quanah. He died in 1990. Survivors include three daughters, Shirley D. Moore of Woodbridge, Va., Mary E. Jett of Meadowbrook, W.Va., and Barbara Alford of Amarillo; four sisters, Juanita Ray and Joyce Hyden, both of Amarillo, Margie Tolleson of Dimmitt and Helen Cokendolpher of Brownwood; a brother, Calvin Hyden of Sacramento, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1711 S. Roosevelt. They request memorials be to Comanche Trail Church of Christ. New Mexico E.L. Nelson CLOVIS, N.M. - E.L. Nelson, 73, died Monday, May 11, 1998. Services will be at 9 a.m. today in Trinity Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Elida Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Mr. Nelson was born in Portales. He lived in and around Portales during his childhood and was educated in the Portales schools. He was drafted into the Army during World War II, serving in Italy, France and Germany. He was wounded on three different occasions and received several medals, including three Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and the Bronze Arrow. After the war, Mr. Nelson returned to Elida, where he managed Wall and Sons Grocery. He then worked for 151/2 years as manager of the commissary at Cannon Air Force Base. He was the butcher at Parkway Grocery in Portales for 16 years. He had been retired since 1986. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and a former member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Portales before moving to Clovis, where he was a member of Trinity Methodist Church. Mr. Nelson married Nancy Willis in 1949 at Hugo, Okla. They had lived in Clovis since 1994. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeffrey D. Nelson of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Stacey Nelson of Las Vegas; a daughter, Becky Burkett of Lovington; a sister, Leviatha "Vi" Jones of McDonald; and three grandchildren. William M. Hamilton Sr. CLOVIS, N.M. - William M. "Ham" Hamilton Sr., 75, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998. Graveside services with military honor guard will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Wally Rinegar of Bethany, Okla., and the Rev. Ed Abla of First Nazarene Church officiating. Arrangements are by SteedTodd Funeral Home. Mr. Hamilton was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was a member of First Nazarene Church. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific area from 1943 to 1945. He was a former resident of California, where he drove buses for the L.A. Transit System. He moved to Clovis in 1971 and worked at Poor Boy's Butcher Shop. After retiring in 1985, he began working at Western Bank, where he worked until 1995. He also was the owner/operator of a lamp and repair shop. Mr. Hamilton married Orma C. Lane in 1942 at Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by a daughter. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lisa White of Clovis; two sons, Roger P. Hamilton of St. Louis and Willard "Mickey" Hamilton Jr. of Clovis; a brother, Robert E. Hamilton of Moreno Valley, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Oklahoma Mary Inise Florence Berg GUYMON, Okla. - Mary Inise Florence Berg, 88, died Sunday, May 10, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Jim Wiggin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mrs. Berg was born in Ochiltree County, Texas. She spent her early years on the family farm near Hitchland, Texas. She attended country schools and later attended Guymon High School. She had been employed by the Ben Davis family and the Lucas family for many years. She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. She married Oscar Edwin Berg in 1930 at Guymon. He died in 1979. She also was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Lee Berg, in 1937. Survivors include a daughter, Naomi Allison of Guymon; two sons, Robert Berg of Mesquite, Texas, and Aaron Berg of Chicago; a sister, Rose Thompson of Lewiston, Idaho; a brother, Emil Berg of Guymon; a stepsister, Ruth Berg of Walsh, Colo.; a stepbrother, Dud Smith of Guymon; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Robn Adele Winkle Grice GUYMON, Okla. - Robn Adele Winkle Grice, 45, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, in Raton, N.M. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Elmhurst Cemetery with Fred Edmiston of Panhandle Bible Center officiating. Arrangements are by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Mrs. Grice was born in Oklahoma City and attended the Guymon school system. She worked as a beauty operator with Town and Country Styling. She attended the Nazarene church. Survivors include her grandmother, Frances L. Bevel of Guymon; three sons, Pete Grice and Jake Bevel, both of Guymon, and Levi Grice of Enid; and a brother, Ross L. Winkle of Los Angeles. Elsewhere Joseph Bauman LUBBOCK - Joseph Bauman, 64, died Sunday, May 10, 1998. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church at Hart with the Rev. Kelly Inman, pastor, officiating. Cremation was by Resthaven Funeral Home. Mr. Bauman was born in Hart. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He owned and operated Bauman's Garage in Lubbock and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Linda Brown in 1958 at Nazareth. She died in 1995. Survivors include a son, Frank Bauman of Pottsboro; a sister, Patsy Entrekin of Hart; and a granddaughter.
