Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage. Miss Sartain was born in Mount Dora, N.M., and moved to Amarillo 15 years ago from Clayton, N.M. She graduated from Clayton High School and was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Hamilton of Clovis, N.M., and Mae Mansfield of Wichita Falls; four brothers, Robert Sartain of Lovington, N.M., Frank Sartain of Dumas, Earl Sartain of Belleville, Ill., and Jimmy Sartain of Amarillo. The family requests memorials be to Catholic Family Service. Robert E. Wisdom Robert E. "Bob" Wisdom, 86, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Pat Carathers of Amarillo officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mr. Wisdom was born in Mangum, Okla. He farmed in the Thalia community and around Vega until retiring to Arizona. He returned to Amarillo five years ago. He married Hannah Sandefur in 1936 at Altus, Okla. She died in October. Survivors include two daughters, Bobby Ann Malmen and Michael Janzen, both of Amarillo; a son, Daniel C. Wisdom of Amarillo; a brother, Albert Wisdom of Whittier, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Verna Mae Killingsworth Verna Mae Killingsworth, 71, of Amarillo, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today in Buffalo Cemetery in Erick, Okla., with C.R. Tucker, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mrs. Killingsworth had lived in Amarillo for 44 years, moving from Erick. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Odd Fellows. She was a Baptist. Survivors include a son, Jerry Killingsworth of Amarillo; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family requests memorials be made to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. New Mexico Joe C. Maddox CLOVIS, N.M. - Joe C. Maddox, 85, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Rush officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Maddox was born on a farm north of Port, Okla., where he lived until moving to a farm north of Sentinel, Okla. He attended Sentinel High School where he played football. He moved to Clovis and played football for the Clovis Wildcats. In 1936 he enrolled in New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell. He also attended Amarillo Junior College in Amarillo and New Mexico State University at Las Cruces. He made the all-state football team three years and was captain the third year. He played professional football in New York for the Long Island Indians. Before World War II, Maddox worked in the fire department, in a potash mine and bottled Coke for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. He entered the military in 1942 and served for 42 months, mainly in Provo, Utah. He rose to the rank of Army Air Corps staff sergeant. In 1946, he returned to the Clovis Fire Department, becoming fire chief in 1963. He worked for the fire department a total of 37 years, retiring in 1978. On his days off from the department, he worked for Thompson Furniture Store, Coca-Cola and a plumbing company. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Ruby Lee McCormack in 1951 in Clovis. She died in 1986. Survivors include six sisters, Lillie Jackson, Ellen Maddox and Ruby Shupe, all of Greeley, Colo., Edith Rogers of Sentinel, Loretta Keller of Iuka, Kan., and Esther Maddox of Spring Arbor, Mich. Vernon Thigpen FARWELL - Vernon Thigpen, 53, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. MST Monday in First Baptist Church at Texico, N.M., with the Rev. Rick Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Terrace Cemetery by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis, N.M. Mr. Thigpen was born in Clovis and lived most of his life in the Texico-Farwell areas. He also had lived in Hereford for eight years. He graduated from Texico High School in 1963. He began working in 1964 at the Farwell office of Gifford, Hill and Western, transferring to the Hereford office. He later returned to the Farwell office. He worked through the transition to Western Ag, later to Franse Irrigation in 1979. He was a member of First Baptist Church at Texico. He married Cynthia Spence in 1965. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sherilyn Owen of Manhattan, Kan.; a son, Todd Thigpen of Clovis; two sisters, Verlene LaRue of Texico and Jerry Trower of Andrews, Texas; a brother, Bill Thigpen of Farwell; and a granddaughter. The family requests memorials be to Plains Regional Medical Center Hospice or the Farwell Volunteer Fire Department. James Harvey TEXICO, N.M. - James A. Harvey, 77, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Muffley Funeral Home Chapel of Clovis with James Love officiating. Military burial will be at 2:30 p.m. (CST) in Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview, Texas. Mr. Harvey was born in Saint Jo, Texas, and had been a lifetime resident of the Texas Panhandle before moving to Texico in 1980. A Navy veteran, he worked as a farmer and was owner and operator of Harvey Trucking. He was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3280 and a member of First Baptist Church of Lazbuddie, Texas. He married Clara Lee Casey in 1980 in Fort Sumner. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cynthia Bolinger of Texas City, Janie Kesey of Bowie, Texas, and Joan Harvey of Wichita Falls, Texas; a son, James H. Harvey of Edgewood; a stepdaughter, Karen Wible of Las Vegas; two sisters, Ruth Schaefer of Pasadena, Texas, and Jo Ann Rogers of Plainview; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Area Merle Mitchell LITTLEFIELD - Merle Mitchell, 80, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998. She married William Edward Mitchell in 1941 in Wellington. They moved to the Spade Community in 1947, then to Littlefield in 1990. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of the Spade Community. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Herrera was born in Mexico. He married Maria Flores in 1980 in El Paso. He had lived in Plainview since 1980. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Christina Herrera and Mida Herrera, both of Plainview; four sons, Armando Herrera, Ricardo Herrera, Noe Herrera and Israel Herrera, all of Plainview; and two sisters, Norma Villa of Mexico and Elbia Villa of Sudan. Don Saine FRITCH - Don L. Saine, 75, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. today in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Stinnett with the Rev. Bud Kidwell of Plainview officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Saine was born in Bristow, Okla., and had lived in the Fritch area for 17 years. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a retired shift supervisor at Phillips Petroleum Co. He married Dorothy Hayes in 1944 in Phillips. He was a recipient of the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and a Presidential Citation. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Borger. Mr. Saine was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Gail Saine in 1973. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Shirley Thompson of Borger; a brother, Joe Saine of Destin, Fla.; two sisters, Jane Browning of Destin and Loretta Simpler of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Charles Cash DUMAS - Charles Cash, 66, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998. Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay McGaughy, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Cash was born in Okolona, Ark., and had lived in Dumas since 1959. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a hot mix plant operator for Lewis Construction, retiring in 1997. He married Naomi Barley in 1961 in Dumas. He was a member of the Dumas Masonic Lodge 1009 and Temple Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Ruth Friend of San Jose, Calif., Janice Cash of Houston and Charlotte Cash of Dumas; a sister, Patsy Kirkham of Little Rock, Ark.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1115 S. Birge. Gertrude Laubhan HIGGINS - Gertrude Laubhan, 81, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998. Mrs. Laubhan was born in Lipscomb County, where she attended school. She married Jonah Laubhan in 1937 in Canadian. They moved to Higgins, where they were active in farming and ranching. She was a member of Higgins United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Survivors include her husband; a son, Gary Laubhan of Higgins; and a sister, Kate Webb of Lipscomb. Gladys Louise Stavlo SUNRAY - Gladys Louise Stavlo, 75, of Oklahoma City,, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Lane Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Stavlo, in 1982. Vernon Bullard TEXHOMA - Vernon Everett Bullard, 82, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Texhoma United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dave Lemmons officiating. Burial will follow in Texhoma, Texas, Cemetery by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Bullard was born in Poolville. He was retired from the ASCS and farming. He was a member of Texhoma Masonic Lodge 382 and attended the Texhoma United Methodist Church. He married Minnie Bergner Bullard in 1941 in Sweetwater. She died in 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Sue Ann Meek of Hugoton, Kan., and Jan Lea Flanagan of Texhoma, Okla.; three sisters, Omah Ryan of Perryton, Gladys Gressett of Mineral Wells and Leota Watson of Buras, La.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Oklahoma Catherine Driskill YUKON, Okla. - Catherine Driskill, a former longtime Amarillo resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Arrangements are by Choice Funeral Care of Yukon. Miss Driskill moved to Amarillo in 1926. She was a teacher and had taught social studies for 41 years, the majority of the time at Sam Houston Junior High. She was active in professional organizations and was a 50-year member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. In 1976, she moved to Spanish Cove Retirement Village in Yukon. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Dorothy Huff HOOKER, Okla. - Dorothy "Dovie" Huff, 97, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the First Christian Church with the Rev. Irvin Stanke officiating. Burial will be in Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Huff was born in Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband and four children. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Paul Huff of Dodge City, Kan.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial celebration will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home, conducted by Rick Henslee. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Pruitt was born in Greenville. She taught school in Celeste, Robert Lee, Wellington, Stanton, Hereford, Lubbock and Midland, retiring at the end of the 1997-98 school term. She was a member of Midland First United Methodist Church and the Joan Weir Sunday School Class. Survivors include her husband, David Ward Pruitt of Midland; a daughter, Jana Alison Pruitt Shipp and two sons, John David Pruitt and Charles Tyler Pruitt, all of Midland; her mother, Theda Roach of Wolfe City; two sisters, Sarah Sue Roach Swindell and Alice Lucille Roach Garcia of Celeste; and a brother, Howard Lynn Roach Sr. of Whitewright.
