Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with Dr. Philip Fike, pastor, Dr. Bobby Renfro, pastor of First Baptist Church in Roswell, and a grandson, Bryan Butler, officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Berry was born in Alvarado, Texas. She was raised in Johnson and Hill counties in Texas. She married Herbert Bee Erwin in 1926 in Childress County, Texas. He died in 1935. She married Thomas Paul Jones in 1940 at Clovis. They moved to Clovis and later to Portales in 1944. He died in 1959. In 1972, she married Emmett Berry at Portales. He died in 1980. She was active in children's programs at Portales First Baptist Church for many years, working in the nursery and also teaching the 2-year-olds' Sunday School class. She moved to Portales in 1995. Survivors include a son, Roland Erwin of Portales; a daughter, Pauline Butler of Roswell; three brothers, Bill Brand of Clovis, Johnny Brand of Friona, Texas, and Jerry Brand of Stockton, Calif.; three sisters, Elsie Smith of Farwell, Texas, and Ruby Hendergart and Jane Huber, both of Lodi, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-greatgrandchildren; and several stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren. Dewey E. Johnson ROSWELL, N.M. - Dewey E. Johnson, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Bobby Renfro and the Rev. Dewey E. Johnson Jr. officiating. Arrangements are by LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Mr. Johnson was born in Wellington, Texas, and raised in Abernathy, Texas. He was a 1941 graduate of West Texas State College, where he lettered for four years in football and basketball. After a distinguished career in coaching and school administration, he retired in 1982. Mr. Johnson was the owner and operator of S&J Pecan Co. from 1971 to 1993. Survivors include his wife, Lena; two sons, Dewey E. Johnson Jr. of Albuquerque and Dr. Max S. Johnson of Roswell; two brothers, Noel Johnson of Decatur, Texas, and Johnny Johnson of Irving, Texas; and five grandchildren. Betty Lee Miller TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Betty Lee Miller, 77, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bob Miller, minister of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park. Mrs. Miller was born in Manhattan, Kan., and had been a longtime resident of Tucumcari. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, William F. Miller; a son, Lee Miller of Tucumcari; three daughters, Marilyn Truelock of Tucumcari, Julia Phillips of Los Angeles and Nancy Fitzner of Albuquerque; a sister; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home from this afternoon until service time. Vicki Jones LOGAN, N.M. - Vicki Jones, 79, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998. Burial will be in Logan Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mrs. Jones was born in Akron, Ohio. She lived in Tucumcari for about 25 years before moving to Logan, where she had lived for the past 15 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainment Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, R.J. Jones; three daughters, Charlene Wheeler of Tucumcari, and Jackie Williams and Sally McKay, both of Albuquerque; four brothers; 10 grandchildren; and 13 greatgrandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home from this morning until noon Friday. T.A. Weathers ROY, N.M. - Thomas Allen Weathers, 97, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998. Private memorial services will be at the Weathers' ranch. Mr. Weathers' ashes will be scattered there at a later date. Arrangements are by Rogers Mortuary in Las Vegas, N.M. Mr. Weathers was born in Goldthwaite, Texas. He was co-owner of the Weathers Store in Eagle Nest. In 1947, he was hired by the New Mexico State Game and Fish Department to collect camping fees in Cimarron Canyon. He and his wife, Martha, leased the Clear Creek Store in the middle of the canyon and operated it until 1969. In 1970, they bought land in Eagle Nest and moved their business to its present location. Mr. Weathers was a member of the Christian church in Roy and the Springer Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Weathers of Roy and Martha Siau of Portales; three sisters, Murlene Riley of Des Moines, and Elizabeth Herron and Era Ivey, both of Roy; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Mrs. Ayers was the buyer for The Boutique, Helen's Fashions and Alexander's in Western Plaza. She also owned the patent for the Hideway Decor Ironing Center. She was a a former member of Central Church of Christ and a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969. Mr. Solomon married Mamie Dantzler in 1941 at Selma, Ala. Mr. Hilliard was born in Hobbs, N.M. He moved to Littlefield in 1983 from Sudan. He was a 1982 graduate of Sudan High School and a veteran of the Air Force. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She married Weldon Eugene Gay in 1962 at Bernalillo, N.M. He died in 1996. She also was preceded in death by a son, Lowell Denny, in 1996. LaMaster PERRYTON - Cyrus T. "Cy" LaMaster, 86, of Tucson, Ariz., a former Perryton resident, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998. He attended Perryton High School and Texas Tech University. He played and managed football and baseball. He also was a scout and an assistant football coach in Lubbock and Tulia. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. He returned to coach at McKinney and then was an athletic director in Dallas. He left the coaching profession in 1959 to pursue a career in insurance. He married his wife, Eula, in 1991. He was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter, Polly Routh. Survivors include three sons, C. Tandy LaMaster II of Basalt, Colo., Walter W. LaMaster of Concord, Calif., and Rob LaMaster of Tucson; four brothers; a sister; and six grandchildren. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 424th Infantry Regiment with the 106th Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart and the EAMET ribbon. Mr. Harvey was a member of the Pampa Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and the Hidden Hills Golf Course. He also was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Billie Emmons in 1953 at Clovis, N.M. Ralph Edmon Bagwell CLAUDE - Ralph Edmon Bagwell, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mr. Bagwell was born in Armstrong County and had lived in Armstrong County most of his life. He was a graduate of Claude High School, where he was a member of the track team. He attended Texas A&M University and was in the ROTC. He served four years in the National Guard. He was a retired farmer and rancher. Mr. Bagwell served on the Claude School Board and the Claude City Council. He served one term as mayor. He was a past president of the Armstrong County Farm Bureau and a member of the Southwestern Cattle Feeders Association. Mr. Bagwell was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was in the Men's Sunday School Class and had served on the Deacon Board. He married Lily Pafford in 1934 at Amarillo. Jay Nunnelley MEMPHIS - Jay Nunnelley, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Travis Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Reid officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Spicer Funeral Home. Mr. Nunnelley was born in Honey Grove. He was a carpenter for many years and built both banks in Memphis. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He served 16 months in the European Theater and participated in the Rhineland as a combat infantryman. He was awarded the Victory Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Ribbon. Mr. Nunnelley married Louise Tonplen. He was a member of Travis Baptist Church. Vera Lucille Bennett FLOYDADA - Vera Lucille Bennett, 78, of San Angelo, a former Floydada resident, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998. The body will be available for viewing at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until service time. Paul Loza HALE CENTER - Paul Loza, 54, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998. A service will be at 7 p.m. today in Hale Center Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Mel Gomez, pastor, officiating. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Hale Center First Baptist Church with Rev. Gomez officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mr. Loza was born in Del Rio and had been a longtime Hale County resident. He was employed by the city of Hale Center. He was a member of the Hale Center Volunteer EMS and Jerusalem Baptist Church. He married Katey Aragon on Jan. 12 in Lubbock. Survivors include his wife; a son, Paul Loza Jr. of Plainview; five daughters, Nancy L. Baione of Austin, Kelsi Loza of Hale Center, and Lulu Morales, Josie Irene Ruiz and Rosemary DeLeon, all of Sweetwater; three stepchildren, Justin Quintero, Randy Quintero and Sara Quintero, all of Hale Center; two sisters, Mary Trinidad and Sara Garcia, both of Dumas; and 11 grandchildren. Willie Prescott CHILDRESS - Willie "Bill" Prescott, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim McCurley, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. Mr. Prescott was born in Hopkins County and had been a longtime Childress resident. He was the owner and operator of a service station. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, in 1994. Survivors include a stepson, Albert L. Toler of Childress; a sister, Jenny Grace King of Childress; a brother, Hubert Prescott of Childress; a grandchild; a great-granddaughter; and two great-great-grandchildren. J.E. Meadows CHILDRESS - J.E. "Jake" Meadows, 79, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jon Crosby, pastor, and the Rev. Harold Johnson of St. Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Meadows was born in Throckmorton County and grew up in the Parnell community. He had lived in Childress for 50 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an employee of the Texas Highway Department in Childress for 27 years until retiring in 1983. He was section foreman at the Wellington office. He was involved with Meals on Wheels for 14 years and was president of the board at the time of his death. Mr. Meadows married Alta Kindrick in 1947 at Estelline. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Vicki Yvonne Harper of Childress; a son, Joe Jay Meadows of Jefferson City, Mo.; a brother, Earl Meadows of Amarillo; a sister, Annie Mae Parker of Amarillo; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family requests memorials be to the Childress Meals on Wheels or the Calvary Baptist Church building fund.
