Charles David White DUMAS - Charles David White, 51, a former longtime Dumas resident, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at Irving. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Morrison Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Hisel, a Baptist minister, and the Rev. David Carrington, pastor of United Pentecostal Church, officiating. Mr. White was born in Dalhart and moved to the Irving area in 1978 from Dumas. He was a house painter. Survivors include three sons, Tony White and Timmy Ray White, both of Dumas, and Roddy Escoe of Garland; a daughter, La Don Moore of Borger; his mother, Ida Belle White Platt of Dumas; a brother, Tommy White of Canyon; and a sister, Charlene Wooldridge of Dumas. The family will be at 312 S. Porter in Dumas. Joe H. Richardson SHAMROCK - Joe H. Richardson, 94, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Shamrock Cemetery with the Rev. Glenn Switzer, pastor of the Eleventh Street Baptist Church of Shamrock, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Richardson was born in Nashville, Ark., and lived in Shamrock for many years. His first marriage was in 1926 to Ruby Smith who died in 1974. He then married Marie Shaw in 1980 at Wheeler. She died in June. Survivors include a brother, Bobby Gale Richardson of Houston; and four sisters, Thelma Laza, Louabell Long, and Ella Faye Ashbrook, all of Washington, and Evlyn Arron of Mesa, Ariz. Lowell Mayfield Talley SHAMROCK - Lowell Mayfield Talley, 81, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Lee, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Talley was born in Abilene and raised in Shamrock. In the late 1930s, she moved to Corpus Christi where she lived for many years. She returned to Shamrock in 1980 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She married Ernest Lee "Rube" Talley in 1937 at Guymon, Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978 and by an infant son, Phillip Boyd Talley, in 1938. Survivors include two sons, Larry Talley of Ridgeland, Miss., and Gary Talley of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Doris Sanders of Shamrock and Nettie Odell Edris of California; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Inman L. Larson HEREFORD - Inman L. Larson, 91, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rose Chapel of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tammy Passmore, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church of Hereford, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mr. Larson was born in Le Grand, Iowa, and moved to Deaf Smith County in 1925 from Vega. He was a farmer and member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He married Christine Fortenberry in 1963 at Bippus community. She died in 1997. Survivors include five sisters-in-law, Kate Bradley of Adrian, Alta Mae Higgins of Hereford, Mary Doris of Clovis, N.M., Stella Sevier of El Paso and Chloe Dowd of Laurel, Ind.; and many cousins. The family will be at 137 Ranger Dr. Columbus Bryant SHAMROCK - Columbus Bryant, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Gary Thomas and Warren Coble, both of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Bowers Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Bryant was born in Freestone County. He farmed in the Dozier and Samnorwood communities for many years. In 1975, he retired and moved to Shamrock. He was a member and deacon of St. James Baptist Church. He married Elnora Harris in 1951 at Wellington. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Bryant, in 1993. Survivors include his wife; two sons, C.B. Bryant of Shamrock and John Paul Bryant of Stockton, Calif.; seven daughters, Gladys Menefield and Ethel Angton, both of Shamrock, Peggy Bryant of Stockton, and Ada Asante, Mable Dickson, Mattie Bryant and Mary Burley, all of Amarillo; a sister, Katie Betts of Wortham; 25 grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. Wade Puckett PLAINVIEW - Wade Puckett, 74, of Lubbock, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in First Baptist Family Life Chapel in Plainview with the Rev. Kenneth Coates, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hart Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Puckett was born and raised in Pumphrey, Runnels County, where he farmed until World War II. He served in the Philippines. After his discharge, he worked for Valley Steel. After his marriage, Mr. Puckett moved to Seminole and then to Abilene in 1956. In 1969, he moved to Casper, Wyo., and then moved to Wichita Falls in 1975. He retired in 1986 and moved to Plainview in 1989. In Plainview, Mr. Puckett was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a Mason. In 1995, he moved to Lubbock. He married Nell Black in 1949 at Abilene. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Virginia Grabbe of Irving; and two nieces. John Sherrod HEREFORD - John Sherrod, 48, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in West Park Cemetery followed by memorial services at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Cosby officiating. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Sherrod was born in Lubbock. In 1972, he graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in business finance. He was employed as a bank examiner for several years. In 1989, he moved to Hereford where he was vice-president of First National Bank, now Firstbank Southwest. He was promoted to president in 1996 and served until 1998. Mr. Sherrod served as a board member of the Panhandle Higher Education Authority, on the Hereford Concert Association, on the Deaf Smith County Health Fair Foundation, was board member and treasurer for the Deaf Smith Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Wayland Baptist University advisory council, a board member of the Small Business Loan Committee and the Panhandle Regional Planning Committee. Mr. Sherrod was a board member and treasurer of the Deaf Smith County Crime Stoppers Association, president of the United Way of Hereford, board member of Kids, Inc., president for one term of the Hereford Country Club and member of First Baptist Church of Hereford. He served as an usher for the church and was on the building and grounds committee. He married Karen Cumiford in 1976 at Hale Center. Survivors include his wife; a son, Curt Sherrod of San Angelo; a daughter, Kari Sherrod of the home; his mother, Jean Sherrod of Lubbock; and a brother, Ronnie Sherrod of Hale Center. The family suggests memorials be to Firstbank Southwest scholarship fund for the Sherrod children's college fund. J.B. Blankenship HEREFORD - J.B. "Uncle Hoppy" Blankenship, 68, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Parkside Chapel. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, in West Park Cemetery. Mr. Blankenship was born in Wister, Okla., and was a longtime resident of Hereford. He retired after 34 years in the sales department of McCaslin Lumber Co. Survivors include two sons, Larry Blankenship of Amarillo and Michael Blankenship of Clovis, N.M.; a brother, Charles Blankenship of Amarillo; a sister, Opal Ledbetter of El Centro, Calif.; four grandchildren; and a special friend, Dee Sturges of Hereford. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Arthur G. Stewart Arthur G. Stewart, 79, of 5519 Randolph, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with Monsignor Joseph Tash of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church officiating. Cremation was by handled by Rector Funeral Home. Mr. Stewart was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He moved to Amarillo in 1948 from New York. An Army and Navy veteran of World War II, he received a Purple Heart. He worked as a salesman for Roberts Paper Co. for 17 years. Mr. Stewart was a deacon at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church for 10 years and was a former member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He married Martha Ruth Heinrich in 1941 at Hempstead, N.Y. Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Barbara Watson of Amarillo, Linda Harmon of Tacoma, Wash., Janet Cova of Pasadena, Calif., Kathy Smiddy of Apple Valley, Minn., Mary McKee of Canyon and Patti Pepeli of Simi Valley, Calif.; a son, Arthur G. "Rod" Stewart of Amarillo; a brother, Frank Stewart of Amarillo; a sister, Betty Ivero of Patchogue, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Robbye Raye Lee Garrett Robbye Raye Lee Garrett, 75, of Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Llano Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Westminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. William R. Long, interim minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Garrett was born in Wortham. She received her bachelor of arts degree in music from McMurry University and her master's of elementary education from West Texas State University. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1954 and taught school with the Amarillo Independent School District, including 21 years at Avondale Elementary School where she taught first grade. Mrs. Garrett was a member of the Amarillo Retired Teachers Association as well as the district and state associations, Delta Kappa Gamma, a teachers' sorority and was an associate member of the Amarillo Museum of Art. She was a past member of the Texas State Teachers Association and had been a recipient of the R.A. Selby Lifetime for Youth Award. Mrs. Garrett had sung with the Amarillo Symphony Chorus. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was an elder and had sung in the church choir since 1955. She received the 1998 Woman of Faith Award from Westminster Presbyterian Church. She married James E. Garrett in 1944 at Abilene. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sallye Tomberlin of Alvin; and four grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Westminster Presbyterian Church Choir, 2525 Wimberly, Amarillo, TX 79109. Dolores Mullins Dolores Mullins, 84, of Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage, with Gene Shelburne, minister, and Lyndon Latham, associate minister of Anna Street Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Mullins was born in Golden, N.M. She moved to Amarillo more than 28 years ago from Lubbock. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ. She married O.V. Mullins in 1931 at Ballinger. He died in 1973. Survivors include a son, Bernard Mullins of Amarillo; three sisters, Virginia Tharp of Leggett, Lillie Shaw of Midland and Elizabeth Davis of Wills Point; two brothers, Lynn Gatlin of California and Colvin "Dan" Gatlin of Wisconsin; and three grandchildren. Dr. Houston Burk Dr. Houston Burk, 78, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m Thursday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Dr. Burk was born in Rochelle and graduated as valedictorian of Menard High School. He graduated from Baylor University and was in the first graduating class of Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He served in the medical corps in the Army. Dr. Burk moved to Amarillo in 1962 from Tulia. In 1984, he retired as a physician and member of Potter-Randall County Medical Society. For many years, he sang in the choir with First Baptist Church, where he was a member. He married Evelyn Howell in 1941 at Waco. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary M. Burk of San Francisco and Kenneth H. Burk of San Antonio; a daughter, Janice Van Lotz of Dallas; a sister, Shirley Heyman of San Angelo; and two grandchildren. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Davis was born in Big Spring and had lived in Amarillo for 15 years. She had an associate's degree in physical therapy and was a member of JPTA. She also was a member of San Jacinto Baptist Church. She married Max Davis in 1989 at Silverton. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Brandi Beth Davis and Sheri Ann Davis, both of the home; her parents, Martha DeVore of Arlington and Eddie DeVore of San Angelo; four sisters, Audrey Jones of Canyon, Dianna Barnhouse of Dallas, Deanna Bell of Amarillo and Beth Kirkpatrick of Arlington; and her grandmothers, Annette Bennett of Childress and Blanche DeVore of Xenia, Ohio. Canyon Thomas Daniel Platt Thomas Daniel Platt, 76, of Canyon, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998. Mr. Platt worked in the dairy business for several years delivering milk. He was employed at Bellah's Grocery Store, Cooper's Grocery Store and Taylor & Sons as grocery clerk and produce manager. He was a member of the Randall County Sheriff's Posse and First Baptist Church of Canyon. He married Nettie Marie Prichard in 1941 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Shirley Ann Clayton and Kathie Carline Robinson, both of Canyon; a son, Tommy Joe Platt of Canyon; a brother, James Platt of Dumas; and six grandchildren. Farril DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery at Portales. Mrs. Aaron was born in Talpa, Texas, and moved to Clovis in 1961 from Portales. She was a member of Forest Heights Baptist Church and was active in mission work. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer R. Aaron, and a baby daughter. Survivors include a daughter, Arlene Dixon of Clovis; a son, Marvin Aaron of Lees Summit, Mo.; a sister, Valta McIntyre of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Alton Warren of Houston; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis, N.M. Mr. Robinson was born in Lebanon, Okla. He served in the Army and had worked as a cowboy for many years. He worked as an auto mechanic for many years and later was in the used car business with Emory Day in Portales and Clovis. He opened the first used car lot in Portales. He married Wilma Belle Campbell in 1941 at Clovis. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joe Robinson of Cleburne, Verbie Robinson of Lewisville, Kan., and Bob Robinson of Clovis; two daughters, Phyllis Coburn and Sharon Robinson, both of Farwell; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Vera Evetts TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Vera Evetts, 88, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Dunn Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bob Civil, minister of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Following services, there will be private family services in the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Evetts was born in Hale Center, Texas, and had been a resident of Tucumcari since 1935. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church at Tucumcari and was a member of the New Mexico Cow Belles. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hansel E. Evetts, in 1988. Survivors include three sons, Dr. George E. Evetts and Robert Evetts, both of Tucumcari, and Myron Evetts of Pueblo, Colo.; four sisters; a brother; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family requests memorials be to Hospital Auxiliary c/o Trigg Memorial Hospital at Tucumcari. The body will be available for viewing until service time at the funeral home. John E. Rinestine TUCUMCARI, N.M. - John E. Rinestine, 61, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998. Graveside services will be at 9:30 MST Thursday in Nara Visa Cemetery in Nara Visa. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mr. Rinestine was born in Dalhart, Texas, and was a veteran of the Army. A longtime resident of Amarillo, he was active in the construction industry. Survivors include three children, Rick, Connie and Lisa; his mother, Lela Rinestine of Nara Visa; two sisters, Alice Garner of Dalhart and Ruby Sandlin of Amarillo; two brothers, James Rinestine of Nara Visa and Bill Rinestine of Dumas, Texas; and several grandchildren. Viewing will be from today until service time at the funeral home.
