Mr. Wesley was born in Yorkshire, N.Y., and moved to Amarillo in 1974. Survivors include his former wife, Virginia Wesley of Amarillo; a daughter, Toni Ruiz of Amarillo; two brothers, Joseph Wesley and Frank Wesley, both of New York; a sister, Betty Owens of New York; and three grandchildren. Curtis Claiborne Curtis Claiborne, 87, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Chester O'Brien of First Baptist Church and the Rev. Jeff Raines, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Claiborne was born in Coleman and moved to Amarillo in 1935. He owned and operated Claiborne and Wauford Refrigeration. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Dr. Jack Walker's Sunday School Class. He also had been a member of Gideons International and Masonic Lodge and was a charter member of the Retired Service Engineers Society. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, in 1992. Survivors include a son, Bob Claiborne of Bucklin, Mo.; his mother, Carmel Claiborne of Coleman; two brothers, Jim Claiborne of Clovis, N.M., and Harold Claiborne of Coleman; and a grandchild. New Mexico Joyce White FARWELL - Joyce White, 61, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in The Chapel, 1500 Thornton, Clovis, N.M., with the Rev. Dick Ross officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home Inc. of Clovis. Mrs. White was born in Dodson, Okla. She was a lifetime resident of the Farwell area. She graduated in 1955 from Friona High School at Friona. She had worked in area hospitals since 1964 as a licensed practical nurse and most recently at Plains Regional Medical Center at Clovis. She was a Pentecostal. She married William Glenn White in 1969 at Farwell. Survivors include her husband; a son, Billy White of Edgewood, N.M.; three daughters, Glenda Clark of St. Petersburg, Fla., Carol White of Pioche, Nev., and Sandra Hudson of Farwell; her father, Thomas Gibson of Friona; two brothers, Thomas Gibson of Copeland, Kan., and Lee Gibson of Friona; three sisters, Sue Barrett of Amarillo, Merlene Starks of Freeport and Linda Osborn of Friona; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her body was donated to the UNM School of Medicine for Leukemia research. The family requests memorials be to the Leukemia Research Foundation. Rebecca C. Hinojosa CLOVIS, N.M. - Rebecca C. Hinojosa, 57, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe by the Rev. Daniel Balizan and the Rev. Carlos Chavez. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home Inc. Mrs. Hinojosa was born in Vaughn and was a longtime resident of the Clovis area and was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3015 and a member of the Military Order of Cooties Auxiliary, where she served as president in 1994. She married Jose Hinojosa Jr. in 1972 at Clovis. Survivors include her husband; a son, Roger Chavez of Clovis; two daughters, Anna Cardonita and Theresa Cardonita, both of Clovis; parents, Alfonso and Florence Chavez of Clovis; a sister, Mae Levi Mondragon of Clovis; a brother, Joe Archibeque of Edinburg, Texas; three half sisters, Patsy Benavidez of Isleta, Christine Archibeque and Evelyn Archibeque, both of Los Lunas; two half brother, Donny Archibeque and Frankie Archibeque, both of Los Lunas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Oklahoma Ray Warren Shorb Jr. HARDESTY, Okla. - Ray "Junior" Warren Shorb Jr., 69, of the Range community, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Hardesty High School Auditorium with the Rev. Jim Fox and the Rev. Don Calvert, officiating. Burial will be in Range Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Mr. Shorb was born in the Range community. He attended Range Community School and graduated in 1947 from Hardesty High School. He served in the Army during the Korean war. After returning home from the war he farmed and ranched. He worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. or 27 years, retiring in 1985. He ranched and raised horses after his retirement. Mr. Shorb attended church in the Hardesty area and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He married Clara Jo Morris in 1951 at Clayton, N.M. She died in 1991. He married Barbara Wilhelm in 1995 at Dodge City, Kan. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Radonna O'Dell of Olathe, Kan.; two sons, Roger Shorb of Hardesty and Randy Shorb of Tulsa, Okla.; three stepdaughters, Ronda Covey and Raylene Akers, both of Wichita, Kan., and Renae Davis of Japan; two stepsons, Scott Akers of Houston and Gary Akers of Springfield, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and 16 stepgrandchildren. Dale Daulphus Jones BEAVER, Okla. - Dale Daulphus Jones, 85, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Clark Funeral Service Chapel with Leah Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Pioneer Cemetery. Mr. Jones was born in Knowles, Okla. After high school, he attended barber college and worked as a barber all his working life. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Marty Carlisle in 1936 at Knowles. She died in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Donna J. Long of Wichita, Kan.; and a grandson. Area Dee Taylor HAPPY - Dee Taylor, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Happy First Baptist Church with Dr. Lonny Poe, pastor, the Rev. Travis LaDuke, former paster of First Baptist Church at Tulia and the Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor of First Baptist Church of Tulia. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Tulia by Wallace Funeral Home. Mr. Taylor was born in Mitchell County and moved to Swisher County in 1929. He was a self-employed farmer/stockman. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon and Sunday School superintendent for many years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and helped organize Swisher County Rural Electric Association in 1939 where he served as a president and on the board. He served on numerous other civic organizations. He married Nora Denny in 1925 at Lockney. She died in 1995. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie, in 1937. Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Maynard of Amarillo and LaNelle Todd of Happy; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Connie Sue Newton TULIA - Connie Sue Newton, 50, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Central Church of Christ with Trey Morgan, minister, and Jack McCall, minister of Kress Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park at Plainview by Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Newton was born in Plainview. She attended schools in Kress, graduating from Kress High School in 1967. She attended beauty school in Lubbock in 1968. She had worked for the Swisher County Extension Office in Tulia for the past eight years. She was a member of Central Church of Christ and was involved with the Swisher County 4-H. Survivors include her husband, Forrest; two stepdaughters, Denise Newton of Stoney Point, N.Y., and Julie Helms of Panhandle; two sons, Jim Newton and Dusty Newton, both of Dallas; parents, Ewel and Dessie Jones of Kress; and six step-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Family Hospice of Plainview or the American Cancer Society. Boyd A. Jones FRIONA - Boyd A. Jones, 55, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Friona Cemetery with the Rev. Don Boren, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Jones was born in Friona where he was a lifetime resident. He had worked as a security guard for Hi-Pro. He was a Methodist. Survivors include a son, Tim Jones of The Woodlands; a daughter, Lisa Craig of Pflugerville; his father, George Jones of Friona; a brother, Wayne Jones of Brownwood; and a granddaughter. Vera Irene Johnston PLAINVIEW - Vera Irene Johnston, 99, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Dr. Max Browning, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Johnston was born in Chico and was raised in Estelline. She graduated from high school in Estelline and received a teaching degree from North Texas College at Denton. She taught school in Estelline, Gilpin, Kress and Parnell, retiring in 1950. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Plainview where she taught the Senior Women's Sunday School Class for many years. She married Montgomery Elbert Johnston in 1929 at Estelline. He died in 1971. Survivors include two sons, Andrew Johnston of Bismarck, N.D., and James Johnston of Kress; two sisters, Gladys Ellison of Albuquerque, N.M., and Eola Garner of Moab, Utah; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Lee Helvey McMurtry II TEXLINE - Lee Helvey McMurtry II, 52, a of Houston, a former Amarillo and Texline resident, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at Corpus Christi. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. CST Tuesday in the Texline Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Rammage, pastor of First Baptist Church in Clayton, N.M., officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, N.M. Mr. McMurtry was born in Tulia and moved with his family to Texline in 1946 where he attended elementary and high school, graduating as Salutatorian. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1969, where he served as assistant sergeant-at-arms in the Senate. He was a Southern Colorado District manager for DeKalb Seed Co. from 1969 until 1973. From 1973 until 1980, he served as administrative assistant to Congressman Jack Hightower in the Amarillo office. In 1980 he moved to Houston and was the owner of LEMAC Communications. He was a member of the Texline Methodist Church. Survivors include a brother, Boyd McMurtry of Smyrna, Tenn.; two sisters, Montene Merchant of Amarillo and Toni McMurtry of Chico; and six nieces and nephews. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home. Charlie Sutton HAPPY - Charlie "Jack" Sutton, 78, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Cordell Huddleston and the Rev. Lonny Poe, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Wayside Cemetery at Wayside by Brooks Funeral Directors of Happy. Mr. Sutton was born in Ceta. He graduated from Happy High School. He was an Air Corps veteran serving for four years during World War II as a B-26 bomber pilot. He farmed and ranched around Wayside on the ranch where his grandparents settled in 1887. He was a member of the Randall County Sheriff's Posse and Trail Riders. He also was a rodeo bull rider. Mr. Sutton assisted with the Randall County Stock Show and supported the Happy Days Celebration and Parade, missing only one parade since 1946. He was a 47-year Mason, becoming a member of the Happy Lodge which later merged with Canyon City Lodge 730. He married Geneva Burns in 1943 at Dodge City, Kan. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Charlene Hunter of Dimmitt; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Wayside Emergency Team, P.O. Box 131, Wayside, TX 79094-0131; Wayside Cemetery; or a favorite charity. Alvis M. Higgins PAMPA - Alvis M. Higgins, 94, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. M.B. Smith, a retired Baptist minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Higgins was born in Graham. He worked in construction and as a pipe fitter for various companies in Pampa and New Mexico. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church. He married LaRue Little in 1936 at Sayre, Okla. She died in 1990. Survivors include a son, A. Clint Higgins of Sapulpa, Okla.; a daughter, Judith Scott of Arcadia, Ind.; a brother, Ralph Higgins of Round Rock; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Gano Wilson WELLINGTON - Gano Wilson, 58, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church with Joe Martin, of Wellington and the Rev. James McLeon, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Quail Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson was born in Wellington. He graduated from Quail High School and West Texas State University. He taught school for 30 years, the last 13 in Wellington. He also farmed and ranched. He served as a president of the Collingsworth County Retired Teachers Association and was active in the 4-H program. He was a Baptist. He married Elaine Yarbrough in 1972 in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Holly Wilson Wynn and Amy Wilson, both of Wellington and Heather Wilson of Abilene; his mother, Dolle Mae Wilson of Wellington; a brother, Bill Wilson of Wellington; a sister, Judith Ann McQuay of Shamrock; and two grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Quail Cemetery Association; the American Heart Association; or the hospital auxiliary.
