Spencer PLAINVIEW - Virgil A.P. Spencer, 75, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Trinity Fellowship Church with the Rev. Steve Rogers, pastor, and the Rev. Joe P. Weldon, pastor of Parkview Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Spencer was born in Bradley's Corner. A Navy veteran, he moved to Plainview in 1948. He worked for Totty's Texaco Service, Sears Roebuck & Co. and as a mail carrier until he retired in 1978. Mr. Spencer, a past member of Parkview Baptist Church, did volunteer work for the food bank. He was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church, the Millennium Singers, SPEBSQSA and a barbershop quartet group. He married Pat Newton in 1973 at Plainview. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sheila Ann Spain of Lubbock; a son, Bobby Spencer of Plainview; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Dorothy Carson OLTON - Dorothy Carson, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kyle Streun, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery by Foskey-LilleyMcGill Funeral Home. Mrs. Carson was born in Crowell. She graduated from high school in Brinkman, Okla., and moved to the Olton area from Altus, Okla., in 1934. Mrs. Carson was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church and of its T.E.L. Sunday School Class. She was an honorary member of the Olton Study Club. She married Leo Carson in 1933 at Altus. He died in 1996. Survivors include two sons, Joe Edd Carson of Hale Center and Don Leslie Carson of Lebanon, Ore.; a daughter, Jan Whitener of Arlington, Va.; a brother, Tom Ross of Flomot; a sister, Elizabeth Andestad of El Paso; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four greatgreat-grandchildren. Barnes SPEARMAN - Opal I. Barnes, 75, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hansford Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Cole, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mrs. Barnes was born in McPherson, Ark. A former resident of San Antonio, she lived in the Panhandle for 37 years. She was employed by Hansford Hospital District and Northern Natural Gas Co., retiring from Northern in 1988. She married Herschael Barnes in 1950 at Alamogordo, N.M. He died in 1969. Survivors include a son, Richard Barnes of Houston; a daughter, Susan Jones of Espanola, N.M.; a sister, Elsie Mathews of Spearman; and a brother, W.C. Cypert of Borger.
