Mrs. Garrett was born in Casey, Ark., and lived in Fort Worth for many years before moving to Amarillo nine years ago. She married Otis Dee Garrett in 1942 at Frederick, Okla. They had been members of Canyon Hills Church of Christ for the past nine years. She had been a part-time secretary/receptionist at Ken Thompson Realtors for about six years. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Marion Thompson of Amarillo; a son, Gene Garrett of Fort Worth; three sisters; a brother; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to The Christian Relief Fund, Box 19670, Amarillo, Texas 79114-1670. "Dale" Hayes Alvie "Dale" Hayes, 53, of Amarillo, died Sunday, June 14, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Robert Field, pastor of Southeast Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery with military rites by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26. Mr. Hayes was born in McAlester, Okla., and had been an Amarillo resident since 1950. He graduated from Amarillo High School and served with the Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Hayes received an associate degree in criminal justice from Amarillo College. He was employed as a correctional officer at the Clements Unit. Survivors include a son, Tim Hayes of Amarillo; three daughters, April Hayes and Amber Hayes, both of Amarillo, and Trina Walker of Fort Collins, Colo.; a brother, Don Hayes of Amarillo; a special friend, Nita Tucker of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. Mr. Hayes also raised three children, Mitzi Bourland, Kayte Weldon and Monte Weldon, all of Amarillo; The family will be at 2907 S. Birmingham. Geneva Lillian Faubion Geneva Liillian Faubion, 75, of Amarillo, died Monday, June 15, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Faubion was born in Electra and moved to Amarillo in 1942. She retired in 1991 as a teacher at Emerson Elementary. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church, Amarillo Classroom Teachers Association and Bible and missionary societies. She married William Clarence Faubion in 1940 at Electra. He died in 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Trisha Faubion of Grand Prairie and Barbara Faubion of Odessa; and a brother, Raymond Smith of Irving. The family will receive visitors from 6 until 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until noon Thursday. Services are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Pearl Culp PETERSBURG - Pearl Culp, 77, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Main Street Church of Christ in Petersburg with Owen Carr, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Strip Cemetery in Lakeview Community by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mrs. Culp was born in Walnut Bend and moved to Petersburg in 1923. She attended Lakeview School and graduated from Petersburg High School in 1938. She was a member of Main Street Church of Christ. She married Odell Culp in 1939 at Plainview. He died in 1995. Survivors include two sons, Jack Culp of Alice and Lynn Culp of Petersburg; a sister, Lettress Harkness of Roswell, N.M.; a brother, Jessie Goldston of Tucumcari, N.M.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Family Hospice of the Plains. Rev. W.L. Porterfield SLATON - The Rev. W.L. Porterfield, 92, a former Amarillo resident, died Monday, June 15, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Trinity Evangelical Methodist Church with the Rev. Lee Elliss, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Burleson Cemetery in Burleson by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. The Rev. Porterfield was born in Rising Star. He was ordained as a pastor with the Methodist Church in 1933 with the Northwest Texas Conference. He held pastorates at Blackwell, Amarillo, Gruver, Canadian, Post, Anson and Big Spring, where he served as chaplain of Big Spring State Hospital. He assisted in establishing the Bible Community Church at Gruver. The Rev. Porterfield joined the Southern Methodist Conference in 1966 and served the Port Arthur Methodist Church. He retired in 1969 from the Oxford, Miss., St. Paul Methodist Church and moved to Slaton in 1973. He married Ila Bess Gordon in 1937 at Snyder. Survivors include his wife; a son, Hody Porterfield of Amarillo; four daughters, Ann Haire of Slaton, Bettye Bates of Amarillo and Welda Miller and Pattie Hill, both of Dallas; two brothers, Bruce Porterfield of Westminster, Calif., and A.H. Porterfield Jr., of Lamesa; a sister, Bettye Teague of Big Spring; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends following the graveside services Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Burleson. The family requests memorials be to Trinity Evangelical Methodist Church in Slaton. New Mexico Emmett A. Rentfro CLAYTON, N.M. - Emmett A. Rentfro, 96, died Monday, June 15, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church in Clayton with the Rev. Billy Rammage, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. Mr. Rentfro was born in Mineral Wells, Texas, and was a resident of Union County, N.M., most of his life. He moved with his family by wagon in 1917 to the Stead community near Clayton. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1921 and worked as a cowboy in his early years. Mr. Rentfro married Anna M. Baird in 1927 at Dalhart. They lived in Tulia, Texas, before moving to Clayton in 1935. He was employed as chief engineer at the power plant from 1945 until 1958 when they moved to Albuquerque. He retired as a building contractor in 1978 and returned to Clayton. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clayton. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Ann Dellinger of Clayton; two sons, Gordon Rentfro and Carl D. Rentfro, both of Clayton; three grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and a great-greatgranddaughter. The family requests memorials be to Clayton Memorial Cemetery, Clayton, N.M., 88415. Mass will be recited at 10 a.m. Thursday in San Jose Catholic Church by John Ohlig of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Floydada. Burial will be in the Lockney Cemetery. Mrs. Sanchez was born in Eden. She married Domingo Sanchez in 1936 at Hondo. They moved to Lockney in 1951 from Hondo. She was a homemaker and a member of San Jose Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Janie Burciaga of Lockney; a brother, Steven Randon of Hondo; two sisters, Alicia Coronado and Mercedes Randon, both of Hondo; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Federico Quintana Jr. DUMAS - Federico Quintana Jr., infant, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in the Dumas Cemetery with Deacon Vacilio Anaya of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Frederico was born in Amarillo. He was Catholic. Survivors include his parents, Federico Quintana Sr. and Imelda Lopez, both of Dumas and grandparents, Armando and Rosa Lopez of Dumas and Manuel and Romona Quintana of Mexico. The family will be at 105 Zauk. Elsie Miner HEREFORD - Elsie Miner, 86, died Sunday, June 14, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Rest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Milford Grisham of Christian Assembly Church officiating. Arrangements are by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mrs. Miner was born in Calhoun County, Ill. She married George Miner in 1930 at Hardin, Ill. He died in 1987. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Grant Miner of Aurora, Colo., and Gary Miner of Colima, Mexico; two sisters, Hazel Calvert of East Alton, Ill., and Grace Vetter of Pearl, Ill.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will be at a home on Holley Sugar Road. Roy Conner PAMPA - Roy Conner, 79, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Daniel Katsanis, elder of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of Canyon, officiating. Cremation was handled by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Conner was born in Arnold, Neb. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1960. He was a welder for Hoechst Celanese for 20 years. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He married Joyce Erichson in 1940 at Borger. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jimmy G. Conner of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a daughter, Linda Joyce Reed of Pampa; a half brother, Donner Conner of Borger; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Douglas Allan Coffee PAMPA - Douglas Allan Coffee, 63, died Monday, June 15, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Todd Dyess, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the White Deer Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Coffee was born in Amarillo. He was a 1953 graduate of White Deer High School and attended Texas Tech University. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1969. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He worked at Hoechst Celanese as an operator about 30 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Pampa Masonic Lodge 966 AF&AM. He married Nancy Alexander in 1958 at Canadian. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Keith Coffee of Nashville; two daughters, Kayla Anderson of El Paso and Kari Cochrane of Nashville; two brothers, Don Coffee of Dallas and Ron Coffee of Atlanta, Ga.; and six grandchildren. "John" Green Jr., 52, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with Dr. Jim Prock, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Green was born in Pampa and lived here most of his life. He was a veteran of the Navy. He joined in 1962 and served for seven years during the Vietnam war. He was owner and operator of Green's Auto Repair Shop. He was Baptist. He married Mary Dee Jinks in 1986 at Pampa. Survivors include his wife; four sons, N. Wilson Green III and Perry R. Green of West Monroe, La., J. Andrew Tennison Jr., of Pampa and Steve Burney of Beaumont; two sisters, Patricia Donaldson of Mineral Wells and Sandra Chumley of Pampa; and nine grandchildren. The body will be cremated. Sophia Mae Hutchison McLEAN - Sophia Mae Hutchison, 98, died Sunday, June 14, 1998. Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Methodist Church with the Rev. Thacker Haynes officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery by Lamb Funeral Home of McLean. Mrs. Hutchison was born in Sulphur Rock, Ark. She moved to McLean in 1941 from Paducah. After graduation from Southwest College, she taught school near McAlester, Okla. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She married Will Lusk Hutchison in 1927 at Vernon. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1942 and a son, Jackie Dale Hutchison. Survivors include two sons, Will Lusk "Bill" Hutchison of McLean and Johnny Joe Hutchison of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mary Anna Escamilla PLAINVIEW - Mary Anna Escamilla, infant daughter of Stacey Escamilla, died Monday, June 15, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Elbert A. Fadallan officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mary Anna was born in Plainview. Survivors include her mother; her grandparents, Juan and Anna Escamilla of Plainview; and her great-grandparents, Jose and Ramona Escamilla and Ysabel Herrera, all of Plainview. Dr. Ervin J. Prouse PLAINVIEW - Dr. Ervin J. Prouse, 92, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Fairview Cemetery with Dr. Strauss Atkinson, retired minister, officiating. Arrangements are by CarmichaelWhatley Funeral Directors. Dr. Prouse was born in Anthony, Kan. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas and received his doctorate in astrophysics from the University of California at Berkley. He taught astronauts at NASA from 1962 until 1964 and was a research scientist for Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay, Wis., and McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis. Dr. Prouse had been a resident of Austin for 52 years and a professor at the University of Texas for 35 years. In 1992, he received a special commendation from the University United Methodist Church in Austin. He farmed near Laketon for 41 years. Dr. Prouse was a life member of the Mathematical Association of America, the American Association of University Professors, the American Math Association, the Texas Academy of Science, the Royal Astronomical Society of England, the American Astronomical Society, the Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of Sigma Xi and Sigma Pi Sigma science honor societies. He married Thelma Prcesang 70 years ago. Survivors include his wife; three children, Darlene Birkes of Pampa, Dr. Ruth Morgan of Dallas and E.D. Prouse of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Ina Mae Webb CHILDRESS - Ina Mae Webb, 77, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ivan Allen, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. Mrs. Webb was born in Sulphur Springs. She had been a bookkeeper. She was a member of High Point Homemakers Club and First United Methodist Church of Childress. She was active in Meals on Wheels and the hospital auxiliary. She married Jack P. Webb in 1946 at Childress. He died in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Jackie Flood of Hereford; two sisters, Jonell Bradley of Odessa and Lovice Lewis of Sellersburg, Ind.; and two grandchildren. Louise Martha Becher DALHART - Louise Martha Becher, 86, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hass Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. B.R. Brummett, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church in Dumas, officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre, Minn. Mrs. Becher was born in Sauk Rapids, Minn., and raised in Sauk Centre. She farmed in that area and was a member of the Lutheran Church. She was active in the ladies aid and Lyman Prairie Birthday Club. She moved to Texas in 1994. She married Louis Becher in 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband and three children, Hattie Truax, Beartha Dirshel and Margarett Catillinick. Survivors include two sons, Don Beecher of Dalhart and Eugene Becher of Eaden Valley, Minn.; a brother, Harold Zang of Melrose, N.M.; two sisters, Mildred Rolfzen of Alexandra, Minn., and Laura Quade of Brooten, Minn.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Estelle G. Cessnum DALHART - Estelle G. Cessnun, 87, died Tuesday, June 14, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Christian Church with Ray M. Guy, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home of Dalhart. Mrs. Cessnun was born in Stratford and raised in the Stratford and Dalhart areas. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church and active in the senior citizens' quilting group. She married William James Cessnun in 1929 at Dalhart. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, J.B. Cessnun. Survivors include a daughter, Myradell Sorrels of Abilene; a son, William J. Cessnun Jr., of Soldotna, Alaska; a sister, Nellobeth Eaton of Dalhart; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Senior Citizens Building/Ladies Auxiliary.
