Services were at 4 p.m. Monday in St. James Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jerry Sneary, rector, officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Howard was born in Shattuck, Okla., and raised in Amarillo. He attended West Texas State University. Mr. Howard moved to Dalhart in 1975 and began working for XIT Feeders. He was employed as general manager of Continental Grain. He was a member of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association and had served as president in 1993. He attended St. James Episcopal Church, where he was a past vestry member. Survivors include his wife Catherine; a daughter, Kim Chisum of Amarillo; a son, Jason Howard of Dalhart; his mother, Donna Howard of Amarillo; two brothers, Ken Howard of Amarillo and Wade Howard of Denver; a sister, Sheryl Olson of Canyon; and a grandchild. The family requests memorials be to St. James Episcopal Church. Melvin Cooper LOCKNEY - Melvin Cooper, 82, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at Fayetteville, Ark. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Abney, pastor, and the Rev. Gene Hawkins, interim pastor of the First Baptist Church of Floydada, officiating. Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery by Moore-Rose-white Funeral Home. Mr. Cooper was born in Traskwood, Ark. He attended school in Quitaque. He married Edith McDaniel in 1936 at Turkey, Texas. They moved to Lockney in 1943 from Portales, N.M. They moved to Prairie Grove, Ark., this month from Lockney. Mr. Cooper was a former member of Masonic Lodge 867 and of the First Baptist Church. He was a retired mechanic and farmer. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melba Elaine Cooper Hardy in 1984. Survivors include his wife; a son, Melvin Wayne Cooper of Bullard; seven brothers, Howard Cooper of Ruidoso, N.M., Jack Cooper of Pima, Ariz., Ross Cooper and Glen Cooper, both of Lockney, Dick Cooper of San Angelo, Lee Cooper of Austin and Pete Cooper of Jal, N.M.; four sisters, Mae Chandler of Lockney, Anne Lumpkin of Amarillo, Vera Wood of Ruidoso and Wilma Van Meter of Hobbs, N.M.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was a member of the Borger Church of Christ. She worked for JC Penney for 10 years and was a homemaker. She married Arthur Harbin in 1947 at Borger. He died in 1992. Survivors include three sons, Rocky Harbin of Borger, Terry Harbin of Sulphur Springs and Coy Harbin of Canyon; a daughter, Ramona Barker of Borger; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Dorothy M. Dunham BORGER - Dorothy M. Dunham, 93, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998. Private graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Westlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Roger A. Harwerth, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mrs. Dunham was born in Brook, Ind., and had lived in Borger for 56 years. She was a homemaker and retired from the Frank Phillips College cafeteria. She was a charter member of Bunavista Baptist Church and a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Fay Dunham, in 1963. Survivors include two sons, Lee Dunham and Bill Dunham, both of Borger; two daughters, Donna Alexander of Borger and Janet Hoefer of Fort Worth; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1333 Coble. Billy Allen Garoutte STRATFORD - Billy Allen Garoutte, 75, of Liberal, Kan., died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Stratford Cemetery at Stratford with Dr. Larry Landis and the Rev. Bill Prater officiating. Arrangements are by Kitch Funeral Home. Mr. Garoutte moved to Liberal in 1948 from Dalhart. He retired from Beach Aircraft in 1984. After his retirement, he worked for the Hobo Truck Stop. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge, all of Liberal. He married Billie Hamilton Huddleston in 1975 in Amarillo. His first marriage was to Mildred Harmon. Mr. Martinez moved to Dimmitt in 1956 from Olmito. He was a farmer. He married Aurua Abrego in 1950. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wood-Dunning Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor of First Baptist Church in Tulia, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mr. Alley was born in Hale County and graduated from Olton High School in 1945. He worked for Lemons Funeral Home, then graduated from Landig College of Mortuary Science in 1948. He joined the Army in 1950 and served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Alley returned to Lemons Funeral Home in 1961, then moved to Clarendon and was employed by Murphy Funeral Home. He owned and operated Holden Funeral Home in Haskell, then worked for Melton Funeral Home in Breckenridge and Nailey-Pickle Funeral Home in Big Spring. In 1977, he moved to Tulia where he owned and operated Wallace Funeral Home until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement, Mr. Alley returned to Plainview. He was a Baptist and member of the Kiwanis Club. He married Clarice Winifred Green in 1953 at Plainview. Survivors include his wife; a son, Chris M. Alley of Plano; a sister, Lou Howard of Plainview; and a grandson. Winona Wall Jacobsen HEREFORD - Winona Wall Jacobsen, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Rose Chapel of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. J.L. Bozeman, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mrs. Jacobsen was born in Bokchito, Okla. She moved to Deaf Smith County in 1960 from Oklahoma. She operated a day care center for small children for many years. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Chris Jacobsen in 1962 at Amarillo. He died in 1996. Survivors include two sisters, Delores Wilson and Mary Jeffreys, both of Bokchito; a brother, David Wall of Calera, Okla.; and 12 nieces and nephews. Hugh B. Saxon PLAINVIEW - Hugh B. Saxon, 77, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Max Browning, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Saxon was born in Dicie, Miss. He was a veteran of World War II and retired after 21 years with the Air Force. He was employed as a jeweler for Payne's Jewelry for 15 years and for V's Jewelry for two years. Mr. Saxon was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Wesley Bible Class where he served as treasurer for 12 years. He was a member of the American Legion and was on the Salvation Army Advisory Board. He married Shirley Tipton in 1976 at Plainview. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. A.D. Burial will be in the Higgins Cemetery by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Shattuck, Okla. Mr. Detrixhe was born south of Higgins and attended school in Higgins. He was a veteran of the Army. He was employed by his father, Ed Detrixhe and Sons, until establishing his own farming and ranching business. Mr. Detrixhe farmed and ranched with his son for the past several years. He served as Hemphill County Commissioner, Precinct 2, for 24 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Higgins and the American Legion Kevin A. Stout Post No. 509 of Higgins. He married Ima Barton in 1949 at Canadian. Survivors include his wife; a son, Phil Ditrixhe of Higgins; three daughters, Judy Barbee, Rita Thompson and Nancy Habekott, all of Higgins; three brothers, Sammy Detrixhe and Dick Detrixhe, both of Higgins, and Paul Detrixhe of Shattuck; six grandchildren; and one greatgrandson. Maxine McCormick Lazenby Maxine McCormick "Bobby" Lazenby, 92, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Llano Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Franklin Williams of Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce St. Mrs. Lazenby was born in Lincoln, Neb., but helped pioneer the Amarillo area with her family in 1908. She grew up on the McCormick Farm, for which McCormick Road was named, and graduated from West Texas Teachers Normal School. She taught in a one-room school in Wildorado and was recently recognized as their oldest living teacher. Mrs. Lazenby graduated from Amarillo Business College. She spent several years on the West Coast before returning to Amarillo in 1972. She was a member of Top of Texas Bridge Club, Senior Citizens of Amarillo and Covenant Presbyterian Church. In 1955, she was awarded Realtor of the Year in Oregon. She married David Lazenby in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1971. Survivors include a daughter, Colleen Weeks; two grandchildren; three greatgrandsons; and a great-great-granddaughter. She had been employed as a lab technician for several years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She married Larry Patterson in 1969. Canyon Marvin Thomas McBroom Marvin Thomas McBroom, 86, of Canyon, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church at Canyon with the Rev. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon. He was a mechanic and had worked for West Texas State University for 10 years. After his retirement, he fixed lawn mowers and had a mowing business. He married Idena Canada in 1938 at Canyon. He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy McBroom in 1980. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marva Terry of Fort Worth; a brother, O.A. McBroom of Canyon; a sister, Dovie Griggs of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Clementine Smith Johnson Clementine Smith Johnson, 95, of Waco, a former Canyon resident, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon Chapel with Dr. Lee S. Johnson, her grandson of McCart Meadows Baptist Church of Fort Worth, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson was born near Bronte and attended early schools in the Bronte and Robert Lee areas. While completing her bachelor's degree at West Texas State College, she taught in area rural schools. She received her master's degree from the University of Texas. In Canyon, Mrs. Johnson helped organize the Junior Women's Book Club and served as president of the Women's Book Club and the Women's Faculty Club. With her husband, she helped to start and facilitate homecomings and an organization for former students of West Texas State. She actively supported WT's Branding Iron Theater, Amarillo's Civic Theater and the Knife and Fork Club. Mrs. Johnson lived for three years in Oxford, Miss., and for 10 years in Marshall. From 1971 until 1998, she lived in Stilwell Retired Teachers Residence in Waco. Mrs. Johnson served as president for a term for Waco Retired Teachers Association and was active in Rotary International and church. She supported the American Cancer Society and Stilwell Retired Teachers Residence. She married Dr. Lee L. Johnson in 1924. He died in 1985. Survivors include a son, Dr. Samuel B. Johnson of Jackson, Miss.; three daughters, Margaret Sherrill of Shattuck, Okla., Ocoee Morgan of Waco, and Ethel Joaquin of Marshall; two nephews Lt. Col.(Ret.) Carrol Johnson of Brownfield and I.B. Johnson of Golden, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Oklahoma Stella Mae Mounts Rietveld HOOKER, Okla. - Stella Mounts Rietveld, 93, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at Liberal, Kan. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Wiens pastor of Gospel of Grace Church officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at the Ceder Park Cemetery at Roseland, Ill. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Mrs. Rietveld was born in La Grange, Mo. She moved with her family to Alva, where she attended school. She moved to Chicago in 1926 where she worked for the Harvey Corporation. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Rietveld was a member ot the Federated Church at Harvey. She did volunteer work for the Veterans of Foreign Wars and had made over 100 lap robes for the veterans in the hospital. She was a member of a crochet club. She married John Rierveld in 1928. He died in 1984. She moved to Hooker in 1990. Survivors include a sister, Luella Delano of Hooker; five nieces; and four nephews. A Stella Rietveld Memorial has been established for the Hooker Ambulance Fund, Hooker Fire Department or a favorite charity. Memorials will be accepted at thc Henson-Novak Funeral Home, Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942. Alza Merle Hale GOODWELL, Okla. - Alza Merle Hale, 68, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Panhandle Centenary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Keith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Goodwell Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Miss Hale was born in Goodwell where she was a longtime resident. She attended Panhandle State University and received her degree in home economics and elementary education from Oklahoma State University. She taught in Liberal, Kan., Shamrock, Texas, and Keyes before her retirement in 1964. Miss Hale resided in Goodwell before moving to Guymon in 1991. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Panhandle Centenary United Methodist Church. She is survived by two aunts, Nell Clark of Guymon and Maxine Hale of Lamark, Texas; and 10 cousins. An Alza Merle Hale Memorial has been established for the Panhandle Centenary United Methodist Church.
