Hughes St. Mrs. Tatum was born in Freestone County and had lived in Amarillo for 56 years. She was a housewife and a member of the New Zion Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, in 1984. Survivors include a brother, Dan Carter of San Antonio. Valerie M. Johnson Valerie M. Johnson, 82, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery with Dr. James E. Garrett of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Miss Johnson was born near Dorchester, Neb., and moved with her family to Amarillo in 1918. They founded Amarillo Welding and Machine Works, now Amarillo Gear Co. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator/supervisor for 35 years and was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include a brother, Millard M. Johnson of Amarillo; and two sisters, Beverly Johnson and Bonita McCormick, both of Amarillo. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. They will be at 2403 Hawthorne. Ann Smith Ann Smith, 75, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at Lubbock. Family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Smith was born in Dallas and moved to Amarillo in 1980 from Lake City, Colo. She and her husband were the owners of Panhandle Leather. She had been an office manager and a member of Paramount Baptist Church. She was a junior master of the American Contract Bridge League. She married Herman W. Smith in 1948 at Dallas. He died Friday. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzann Smith, in 1976. Survivors include an aunt and several nieces and nephews. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Lenora Jones Srader Lenora Jones Srader, 74, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Ms. Srader was born in Broken Arrow, Okla. She moved to Amarillo in the early 1960s from New Mexico. She was a past resident of Shamrock. Mrs. Srader worked as a beautician at Bivins Nursing Home for many years. She then worked at a country club. Survivors include two sisters, Lynn Sheegog of Amarillo and Elaine Wilson of Shamrock. The family requests memorials be to Bivins Nursing Home. Reginald Downs Reginald "Bud" Downs, 77, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry, Okla., with the Rev. Tolbert Dill officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home of Perry. Mr. Downs was born in Leesville and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a building superintendent in construction. He was a Methodist and member of the Carpenters Union. He married Doris Chaney in 1945 at Abilene. Charles Bolt Charles Bolt, 82, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. Howard K. Batson of First Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Garden of Memories in Paducah. Mr. Bolt was born in Paducah. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a survivor of the Battle of the Philippines, the Bataan Death March and spent 42 months in a Japanese prison camp. Mr. Bolt lived in Amarillo for many years where he was a commercial paint contractor. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. He married Bette Green in 1989. His first marriage was to Marie Underwood in 1946 at Paducah. He was preceded in death by Marie in 1985 and by a daughter, Phyllis Lang, in 1996. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles Underwood of Amarillo and Leroy Bolt of Abilene; a daughter, Helen Ingram of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; a brother, A.J. Bolt of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Ellen Patton of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Ella Faye McCandless Ella Faye McCandless, 85, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Rule Cemetery in Rule with the Rev. Daniel Ramey, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Rule, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Miss McCandless was born in Rule. She received her bachelor of science degree from Southern Methodist University and her master's degree from Tulane University. Miss McCandless retired as child psychologist for the state of Texas welfare department. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She is survived by a niece, Carol Thomas of Amarillo; and a nephew, Dave McCandless of Amarillo. Marion D. Hatton Marion D. Hatton, 87, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with Dr. Murray Gossett, associate minister of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Private family burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Hatton was born in Ogden, Utah, and had lived in Amarillo since 1944. She graduated from the University of Denver. She attended the University of Utah for three years where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Mrs. Hatton was a charter member of the Ladies Geological Auxiliary and a member of the American Association of University Women. She served as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother. She was a homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church. She married George E. "Ed" Hatton in 1937 at Denver. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Nancy Schulz of New Braunfels; a son, Bob Hatton of Warren, N.J.; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Presbyterian Children's Home, 3400 S. Bowie, Amarillo, TX 79109; or a favorite charity. New Mexico Jack B. Murphy CLOVIS, N.M. - Jack B. Murphy, 80, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Muffley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles F. Bader officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Murphy was born in Melrose and was a lifetime resident of Clovis and Curry County. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 40, American Legion Post No. 25, the Scottish Rite, and was a Shriner. Mr. Murphy owned and operated a service station in Clovis for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He married Jan Huey in 1997 at Clovis. In 1942, he married Elizabeth Larson at Fort Sumner. She died in 1996. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Pat Murphy of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ken Huey Jr. of Clovis, Ron Huey of Rowlett, Texas, Jerry Huey of Austin, Texas, and Terry Huey of Prescott, Ariz. Louise Pearce, 71, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Taylor Stake Center, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Arrangements are by Owens Mortuary of Show Low. Mrs. Pearce was born and raised in Taylor where she attended elementary school. She graduated from Snowflake Union High School and attended Lamson Business College. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mrs. Pearce was employed in the payroll office at Southwest Forest Industries. After her marriage, she moved to Okmulgee, Okla., where she attended Okmulgee Oklahoma A&M College. She lived in Amarillo for 20 years where she was employed in the cafeteria of the public school system. A homemaker, Mrs. Pearce was active in her church, serving in the Relief Society and Primary organization. She returned to Taylor in 1980. She married Bill Pearce in 1947. He died in 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Funderburk of Amarillo and Cynthia Pritchard of Gilbert; two sons, Bill of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jeffery of Amarillo; three brothers, Val Solomon of Mesa, Ariz., K.S. "Sam" Solomon of Show Low and Delwin Solomon of Joseph City; a sister, Nona of Gilbert; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Area Orvan Eugene Bagby Jr. QUANAH - Orvan Eugene Bagby Jr., infant son of Orvan Eugene and Kelly Ann Bagby, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Vernon. Orbie Ovella Offutt SHAMROCK - Orbie Ovella Offutt, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Eleventh Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Lewis Ellis of First Baptist Church at Lefors officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Offutt was born in Izzard County, Ark. She lived in Arkansas until 1916 when she moved to Plymouth Flats. She was a member Samnorwood Baptist Church. She married Odus Offutt in 1928 at Wheeler. He died in 1979. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Jordan of Phoenix, Ariz., and Hazel Janice Reynolds of Amarillo; a brother, Eldon Kidwell of Wheeler; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Joe M. Jackson PERRYTON - Joe M. Jackson, 65, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998. Memorial graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hollis Cemetery at Hollis, Okla. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Jackson was born in Rubbottom, Okla., and moved into the Perryton area from Hollis in September. He was a farmer and a member of the Assembly of God Church at Hollis. Survivors include a son, Gary Jackson of Hollis; a brother, Bill Jackson of Hollis; six sisters, Jewell Harris of Bryan, Hazel Wilson of Bakersfield, Calif., Celestine Thompson of Perryton, Rena Hendricks of Stigler, Okla., Veda Mae Sweeten of Lubbock and Wilma Bess Jackman of Garland; and two grandsons. The family requests memorials be to Ochiltree Hospice or Perry Memorial Library, both of Perryton. Ernest Lancaster PADUCAH - Ernest "Shorty" Lancaster, 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Paducah with the Rev. David Miller of Tulia and Joe Crosby, youth minister, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton by Seigler Funeral Home. Mr. Lancaster was born in Lynn County. He lived in the Lubbock area for many years where he worked for the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District. He farmed in the Post, Slaton and Hale Center areas. Three years ago, Mr. Lancaster moved to Paducah. He was a member of the Baptist church and the Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Lancaster married Dolores Jean Hedick in 1964 at Lubbock. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Charles Ginn and Donny Grasso, both of Denton, Danny Ginn of Hale Center and Ralph Grasso of Lubbock; and six grandchildren. W.C. Alvis PLAINVIEW - W.C. Alvis, 82, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Ritter, pastor of Seth Ward Baptist Church, and the Rev. Dean McNamara, chaplain for Vista Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Alvis was born in Hopkins County, was raised in Winnsboro and attended school in Chico. In 1942, he moved to Plainview where he was employed by Green Machinery. He retired in 1980 as superintendent of Harvest Queen Mill. He was a Baptist. Mr. Alvis married Dolly Crain in 1935. After her death, he married Gladys Peters in 1979. She preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Akin of Neosho, Mo. and Diane Patridge of Plainview; three sons, James A. Alvis, Jerry Wayne Alvis and Jack Alvis, all of Plainview; five sisters, Gladys Ashby, Viola Pearce and Almeta Lovell, all of Plainview, Elvera Williams of Richardson and Jean Wells of Farmers Branch; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Peggy Dodd MULESHOE - Peggy Dodd, 65, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Muleshoe with Dr. Stacy Conner, pastor, and the Rev. Bill Dodd, brother-in-law, of Brownwood, officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mrs. Dodd was born in Aquilla and moved to Muleshoe from Lubbock in 1962. She was a homemaker. She had been a bookkeeper for the Muleshoe Gin Company and an insurance agent for Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Company. She married Bobby Ray Dodd Sr. in 1951 at Lubbock. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997 and by a son, Bobby Ray Dodd, in 1990. Survivors include three daughters, Judy Puckett, Cindy Barnes and Brenda Hawkins, all of Muleshoe; her mother, Ina Dennis of Levelland; two sisters, Jaunez Cheek of Lubbock and Linda Knowlton of Fort Worth; two brothers, Leo Wills of Ennis and Ronnie Wills of Lubbock; and nine grandchildren. Hill, 95, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Cee Vee Cemetery in Cee Vee with Lance Morrisett, associate minister of Childress Church of Christ, officiating. Mrs. Hill was born in Leake County, Miss. She was a longtime resident of Cee Vee before moving to Childress. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church. Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas V. Hill, in 1956. Survivors include a nephew, Troy Riddell of Cee Vee; and eight nieces, Ginger Alexander of Kosciusko, Miss., Loraine Farren of Amarillo, Jeanene Johnston, Gaylean Riddell, Charlene Smith and Vana Tobias, all of Childress, Lucietia Leath of Fort Worth, and Beverly Dorsey of Carthage, Miss. Louis Jones MEMPHIS - Louis Jones, 74, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. O.K. Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Memphis Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones was born in Hall County. She was a bookkeeper and vice president with the First Bank and Trust. She was a Baptist. She married L.F. "Chuck" Jones in 1947 at Memphis. He died in January. Survivors include a son, Bob Gardner of Duncanville; a daughter, Vickie Moore of Arlington; a sister, Ruby Watts of Dallas; four grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russell Byard, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mrs. Mangum was born in Lockney where she was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Lockney High School and Dietary School. A homemaker, she was a dietitian at the Lockney General Hospital. Mrs. Mangum was a member of First United Methodist Church. She also was a member of Senior Citizens of Lockney and National Dietitians Management Association. She married Paul Mangum in 1942 at Floydada. He died in 1994. Survivors include a son, Rocky Mangum of Plainview; three daughters, Ruth Burleson of Lockney, Laura Hamilton of Nashville, Ga., and Tara Smith of Tulia; three sisters, Bettie Smith of Kress, Ruby Reynolds of Olton and Charlene Hughes of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Frank Edward Cannon CLARENDON - Frank Edward Cannon, 76, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, in San Diego, Calif. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Martin Baptist Church in Clarendon with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Cannon was born in Raton, N.M., and lived in Navasota for many years before he moved to San Diego 31/2 months ago. He was a teacher with the Navasota Independent School District for 40 years before he retired. He also had served in the armed forces. Mr. Cannon married Mary Louise Harrison who died in 1984. Survivors include two daughters, Hulda Refermat of San Diego and Lisa Cannon of San Antonio; two sons, Kerry Edward Cannon of Oklahoma City and Blake Harrison Cannon of Boulder, Colo.; five sisters, Erie Etta Williams of Lubbock, Jane Smith of Dallas, Mozelle Shepherd of Channing, Texas, Delores Hargis of Amarillo, and Drucilla Lindsey of Marysville, Calif; three brothers, Eli Cannon of Broken Arrow, Okla., Robert Cannon of Navasota and Gary Don Cannon of Concord, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Alejandro Sisneros MULESHOE - Alejandro Sisneros, 93, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Joseph Augustine, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Sisneros was born in Dahlia, N.M. In 1957, he moved from Santa Rosa, N.M., to the Needmore area where he was a farmer, rancher and worked at the Needmore Co-op Gin. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Muleshoe. Mr. Sisneros married Aurelia Ulibarri in 1930 at Chico, N.M. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1983 and by a son, Joseph O. Sisneros, in 1972. Survivors include a son, Tony A. Sisneros of Amarillo; three daughters, Sinny Herrera of Roswell, N.M., Mary Devinney of Clarksville and Frances L. Ramos of Needmore; three brothers, Jose V. Sisneros of Santa Rosa, and Reynaldo Sisneros and Lena Duran, both of Pueblo, Colo; and 25 grandchildren.
