Jim Shelburne, senior pastor of Washington Avenue Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Morrison was born and raised in Memphis. She attended Texas Tech University at Lubbock and was an honor graduate of West Texas State University. She was a secretary at Diamond Shamrock Oil Co. and an elementary teacher at St. Andrew's Episcopal School. At the time of her death, she had been employed by the Clairmont Retirement Residence for the past seven years. Mrs. Morrison had been a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church for 38 years. She also was a member of the Amarillo Desk & Derrick Club and the Palo Duro Rangers Riding Club. She married Jimmy E. Morrison in 1955 at Memphis. Survivors include her husband; a son, Jay Morrison of Amarillo; a sister, Judy Davis of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. Markoleta Hamby Markoleta Hamby, 81, of 1100 Trinidad, died Monday, March 16, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Terry Tamplen of Kingswood United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Ms. Hamby was born in Dundee. She moved to Amarillo 20 years after retiring as a waitress in Seymour. Survivors include a son, Joe Richard Hamby of Amarillo; a sister, Louise Garner of Seymour; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1100 Trinidad. Dorothea Bair Williams Dorothea Bair Williams, 84, of Amarillo, died Friday, March 13, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Llano Mausoleum. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Ms. Williams was born in Jefferson City, Mo. She was an executive with TWA before retiring. She was a member of the Wall Street Women's Investment Club. Survivors include her stepmother, Nova Bair of Amarillo. Kenneth Tipton Kenneth Tipton, 73, of Amarillo, died Monday, March 16, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Llano Mausoleum Chapel. Masonic graveside services will be in Llano Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Tipton was born in Wilson, Okla. He moved to Amarillo in the 1960s from Whitharral. He was a heavy equipment operator for Cooper & Woodruff before retiring in 1974. He served with the Army Medical Corps during World War II. He was a member of San Jacinto Masonic Lodge No. 1330 and the Scottish Rite. Mr. Tipton married Zola Mae "Myrt" Sinks in 1942 at Electra. Survivors include his wife; children, Jim Tipton and Jeanie Willis, both of Amarillo, and Sonny Staats of New Haul, Calif.; two sisters, Chloe Sory of Pearland and Vivian McCarson of Las Cruces, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren. New Mexico Blanche V. Ware CLOVIS, N.M. - Blanche V. Ware, 97, died Sunday, March 15, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Burwash officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Ware was born in Dixon County, Texas. They moved to McLean, Texas, when she was 2 years old. She married Clyde T. Ware in 1918 at McLean. They moved to Wheatland in 1939 and to Clovis in 1962. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989 and by a daughter, Echo Mackechine, in 1963. Survivors include her children, Georgia Corbin, Bob Ware and Lois Hale, all of Clovis, Marion Ware of Grady, Dale Ware of Quincy, Wash., Edna Gorman of Norco, Calif., Elsie Hightower of Chico, Calif., and Dessie Reed of Amarillo; a sister, Essie Forbs of Canyon, Texas; 32 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Rosie M. Ayler TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Rosie M. Ayler, 100, died Saturday, March 14, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Randy Searight, minister of Third Street Church of Christ, and Jeff Ellis, retired Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Ayler was born near Celeste, Texas. She had been a resident of the Tucumcari area since 1907, moving from Texas by covered wagon with her family at the age of 10. For several years she worked at Tucumcari General Hospital. She also did custom cake decorating. She was a member of Third Street Church of Christ. Mrs. Ayler was preceded in death by her husband, Warner S. Ayler, in 1972; and by two daughters, Effie Mae Verner in 1986 and Naomi Bradley in 1970. Survivors include two daughters, Flossie Boyle of Tucumcari and Ruby Gunn of Albuquerque; a son, Floyd Ayler of Tucumcari; a brother, Louis Bowerman of Paris, Texas; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and greatgreat-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home until service time. Elton Sanders PORTALES, N.M. - Elton Sanders, 63, died Monday, March 16, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Chapel with the Rev. Hugh Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery. Mr. Sanders was born in Cordell, Okla. He moved with his family from Oklahoma to Portales in 1945. He married Bobie Jean Cole in 1951 at Clovis. Most of his adult life he worked with a seismograph crew in oil exploration. For several years, the family lived in various places in Texas while Mr. Sanders worked in various parts of the nation exploring for oil. He and his wife moved back to Portales in 1990. He worked for the Roosevelt County Road Department before retiring in 1996. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Elton Neal Sanders Jr. of Midland, Texas, Steven Ray Sanders of Oklahoma City, Calvin Lee of Winnie, Texas, Michael Duane Sanders of Rotan, Texas, and Charles Dewey of Mineral Wells, Texas; two brothers, James Sanders and Earl Sanders, both of Portales; a sister, Betty Woolford of O'Fallon, Ill.; and 11 grandchildren. Oklahoma Freeman Burleson TEXHOMA, Okla. - Freeman Burleson, 88, died Sunday, March 15, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Christian Church with Mike Dumler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Texhoma Cemetery by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Burleson was born in Ada. In his early years, he worked for the railroad. He later farmed. He married Zetta Bell Parsley in 1930 at Altus. They moved to Texhoma in 1942. Mr. Burleson worked for the Texas and Oklahoma schools for 20 years. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Betty Fry of Texhoma and Carolyn Gilstrip of Seymour, Texas; a son, Bob Burleson of Sallisaw; a sister, Georgia Hinkle of Modesto, Calif; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Ona Mae Weaver VICI, Okla - Ona Mae Weaver, 88, of Wheeler, Texas, a former Vici resident, died Monday, March 16, 1998. Mrs. Weaver was born near Vici. She married Urban C. Weaver in 1929. Their home was established near Vici, where they farmed and raised cattle. Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker and a supporter of the community and school. After the death of her husband in 1978, Mrs. Weaver remained in Vici until 1980, when she moved to Wheeler. Survivors include a son, Hyland Weaver of Wheeler; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Elsewhere Pearl Franks GRAHAM - Pearl Franks, 80, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery at Amarillo. Ms. Franks was born in Eula. She moved to Graham in 1993 from Lubbock. She retired from Consolidated Distributing Co. in Amarillo. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God. Survivors include two daughters, Joan Messer of Graham and Wanda Messer of Clifton; 10 grandchildren; and 11 greatgrandchildren. Naomi Ruth Lowry HUGOTON, Kan. - Naomi Ruth Johnson Lowry, 75, died Thursday, March 5, 1998. Services were Monday, March 9, in First Southern Baptist Church at Ulysses with the Rev. Dave Caraway officiating. Burial was in Ulysses Cemetery at Ulysses by Paul's Funeral Home of Hugoton. Mrs. Lowry was born in Wheeler, Texas. She attended schools at Kelton, Texas; Wheeler, Texas; and San Angelo, Texas. She graduated with honors from Wheeler High School in 1939 and attended West Texas State College in 1940. She did nurse's training at San Angelo and Amarillo, Texas. Her nursing career included Amarillo, Springdale, Ark., Miami, Okla., and Ulysses. Mrs. Lowry was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Sue Rust, in 1975. Survivors include her husband, Cleston Lowry of Hugoton; a son, John Michael Rust of Stafford; and a brother, Lloyd Johnson of Canyon, Texas. The family requests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Canyon Sarah Loven Tilley Sarah Loven Tilley, 83, of Canyon, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Tilley was born in Childress. She married Clyde Tilley in 1943 at Childress. They had lived in Canyon since 1964. Mr. Tilley died in 1969. Mrs. Tilley was a custodian for West Texas State University for 12 years. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Survivors include a sister, Mary Longley of Clovis, N.M.; and two brothers, Floyd D. Loven of Fort Worth and Delmer "Pete" Loven of Canyon. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Vince Kolb officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Wells was born in Ramona, Okla., and had lived in the Texas Panhandle area since 1932. He moved to Dumas in 1960. He was a field supervisor for Phillips Petroleum Co. before retiring in 1972. He was a longtime member, deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church. He was named Volunteer of the Year in the 1980s. Mr. Wells married Beulah M. Brady in 1935 at Nowata, Okla. He was a lifetime member of the YMCA and a 50-year member of the Gruver Masonic Lodge at Gruver. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Gail Curnutt of Arlington and Mary Kay Wells of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mr. Carlson was born in Hobart, Okla. He moved to Deaf Smith County in 1936 from Nebraska. He was a farmer and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. Mr. Carlson married Norma Hetzler in 1941 at Woodward. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Ann Carlson, in 1943. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Carlson and Leslie Carlson, both of Hereford; a sister, Vera Howe of Huleh, Wyo.; two grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. Edwin Harold Lowrance WHITE DEER - Edwin Harold Lowrance, 74, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in White Deer Cemetery with the Rev. He married June Winborne in 1964 at Pampa. He moved to White Deer in 1968. He retired from Lee Way Motor Freight and farmed for Mark Urbanczyk. He was a member of First Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Lowrance was preceded in death by a son, Richard A. Lowrance. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Patti K. Duezabou of Deer Lodge, Mont., Sandra K. Byram of Amarillo and Rahna T. Abernathy of Pampa; two sons, Richard C. Tackett of White Deer and Scott Lowrance of Pampa; three sisters, Jeanne Redder of Munday, Francis Rogers of Fritch and Naomi Malone of Bonham; three brothers, Homer Lowrance of Munday, Truman Lowrance of Pampa and Troy Lowrance of Terrell; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. today. C. Vida Brown WHEELER - C. Vida Brown, 88, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with Robert Lindley, pastor, Beth Brown, granddaughter, and Rodney Weatherly, pastor of the Country Chapel, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mrs. Brown was born in Memphis. She grew up in Canyon and graduated from West Texas State University. She taught speech and English in Canadian and met and married R. William Brown in 1930. They moved to Wheeler County, where Mr. Brown was a rancher. After her husband's death in 1960, Mrs. Brown taught at Briscoe and then at Wheeler. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, a member of the choir and of United Methodist Women and lay leader and member of the Administrative Council. Mrs. Brown was a member of Top O' Texas, state of Texas and American National Cattle Women and the Pampa chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a longtime member of the Wheeler Library Board. She twice served as president of the Wednesday Study Club. She was a past president of the Wheeler County Retired Teachers. In 1975, she was selected as Wheeler's Outstanding Woman of the Year. In 1978, she was one of 10 outstanding Panhandle women honored by West Texas State University for distinguished service. After retiring from teaching, Mrs. Brown was elected to the Wheeler Independent School Board and served as secretary for 15 years. In 1996, she became the first recipient of the Wheeler Chamber of Commerce Pioneer Spirit Award. Survivors include a son, Richard S. Brown of Wheeler; a daughter, Billie McClellan of Wimberly; a brother, Dr. Donald E. Savage of Clayton, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. McLaughlin was born in Welder and had been a Borger resident since 1959. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Paul McLaughlin; a son, Paul McLaughlin of Stinnett; two daughters, Marie Avery of Fort Worth and Joan Casey of Ranger; two brothers, Arno Hill and Don Hill, both of Pasadena; a sister, Mauriene Cox of Coppell; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Estie Eunice Rogers SHAMROCK - Estie Eunice Rogers, 70, died Monday, March 16, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Shamrock Cemetery with the Rev. Joe G. Jernigan, pastor of Calvary Christian Fellowship Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors. Ms. Rogers had lived in Wheeler County most of her life. She was Baptist. Survivors include a brother, Jim Seedig of Amarillo; and a sister, Margaret Duvall of Tahlequah, Okla. Addie Lucille Baird TULIA - Addie Lucille Baird, 83, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Silverton Cemetery at Silverton with Virgil Lowrey officiating. Arrangements are by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mrs. Baird was born in Terrill, Kaufman County. She was a longtime Silverton resident before moving to Tulia several years ago. She was a member of the Jehova's Witnesses. She married W.C. Baird in 1933 at Silverton. He preceded her in death. Survivors include two granddaughters, Lee Ann Holt of Tulia and Patty Bufkin of Benjamin; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
