Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Sain of Pecos and the Rev. Don Auten, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Mauldin was born in Lone Camp and raised in Haskell County. She attended Judd Elementary School and graduated from Rule High School. She married Leland O. Mauldin in 1932 at Rule. They moved to Terry County in 1958. They farmed in the Tokio area for 10 years. In 1969, they moved to Pecos, where they were employed by Gibson Discount Stores. Mr. Mauldin died in 1979. Mrs. Mauldin moved to Tulia in 1979. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church and WMU. Survivors include a daughter, Janice Malone of Tulia; a sister, Ruth Campbell of San Diego; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Calvary Baptist Church building fund or the Tulia Cemetery Association. Mickey Max Pierce MULESHOE - Mickey Max Pierce, 57, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998. There will be no services. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Pierce was born in Muleshoe. He lived in Lake Creek, Ore., before returning to Muleshoe in 1995. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a veteran of the Air Force. He was a mechanic. He married Jacqueline Ervin in 1988 at Eagle Point, Ore. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mickey Gene Pierce and Max Ray Pierce, both of Norman, Okla., and John Meister of Phoenix; three daughters, Mitzi Springs and Lisa Hamilton, both of Norman, and Jill Kerofsky of Chesapeake, Va.; his mother, Gladys Pierce of Muleshoe; three sisters, Pat Hughes of Lubbock, Betty Blair of Noble, Okla., and Cherry Estep of Muleshoe; six brothers, Bill Pierce of Everett, Wash., Sam Pierce and Tony Pierce, both of Medford, Ore., Dick Pierce of Val Mora, N.M., Neal Pierce of North Carolina and Gerry Pierce of Muleshoe; and 10 grandchildren. Amarillo The Rev. J. Arnold Carlson The Rev. J. Arnold Carlson, 83, of the Amarillo area, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998. A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. today in St. Laurence Cathedral. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Laurence Cathedral by Bishop John W. Yanta of Amarillo, and Bishop emeritus and priest of the diocese Leroy Matthiesen. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Catholic Cemetery at Clarendon with Monsignor Monroe Matthiesen officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St. The Rev. Carlson was the second-oldest priest serving the diocese of Amarillo. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Amarillo in 1948 at St. Vilbiana Cathedral in Los Angeles. He was appointed financial secretary of the diocese, pastor of Sacred Heart Cathedral and diocesan chancellor. In 1950, he was named rector of St. Ann's Church at Canyon. He remained there until 1953, when he was appointed administrator and later the pastor of St. Theresa's Church in Panhandle. While in Panhandle, he was appointed director of the Catholic Children's Home. After nearly six years in Panhandle, Carlson was named pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at Groom. In 1975, he was appointed administrator of St. Mary's Church at Clarendon. He took care of both churches until 1981, when he was named pastor of the Clarendon parish. He served there until retiring in 1994. He continued to live there until 1997, when he moved to St. Joseph's Retirement Home for Priests in Panhandle. Survivors include a sister, Sally Wood of Anaheim, Calif.; and a brother, Douglas Carlson of Los Angeles. Robert W. McCoy Robert W. McCoy, 64, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with Larry Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. McCoy was born in Roxton and had lived in Amarillo most of his life. He retired as a bus driver for the city of Amarillo in 1995 after 15 years of service. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and a life member of the Moose Lodge. He married Patsy Jones in 1983 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Renita Powell of Plano, Kay Collins of Wylie, and Terrie Keys and Sheila Keys, both of Amarillo; five sons, Robert McCoy Jr. and Kenny McCoy, both of Plano, Ernest McCoy and Billy H. McCoy, both of Allen, and Timothy Jones of Amarillo; a sister, Juanita Carroll of Amarillo; two brothers, Billy R. McCoy of Amarillo and Harold B. McCoy of Abilene; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Don Eldon Woods Don Eldon Woods, 87, a former Amarillo resident, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in Mount Holly, N.C. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. J. Pat Kennedy, pastor of St. Luke Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Woods was born in Quitaque. He was a longtime resident of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle. He retired in 1975 from Colorado Interstate Gas Co. after 31 years of service. He was a member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church. Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his wife, Bernalee Mae, in 1987. Survivors include a son, Ronnie Woods of Mount Holly; two sisters, Sue Curtis and Lanelle George, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; and two grandsons. Oklahoma Ada Constance Canon TEXHOMA, Okla. - Ada Constance "Connie" Canon, 90, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, in Guymon. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Davidson, pastor, officiating. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. in Dolberg Cemetery in rural Sulphur by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home. Mrs. Canon was born in London. She served in the British Army. She married Arthur V. Canon in 1945 at London. They moved to Texhoma in 1946. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Texhoma. Survivors include her husband. New Mexico Rosa Madrid CLOVIS, N.M. - Rosa Madrid, 82, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in San Isidro Catholic Church at Gonzales Ranch. Burial will be at Gonzales Ranch by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Madrid was born in Sena and lived most of her life at Gonzales Ranch. She moved to Clovis four years ago. Her husband, Cayetano Madrid, preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Joe Madrid of Leyba; a daughter, Connie Valdez of Clovis; two sisters, Juanita Lobato of Las Vegas, N.M., and Anada Madrid of Moriarty; two brothers, Tony Lopez of Leyba and Helario Lopez of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Klemett G. Miller TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Klemett G. Miller, 86, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Center Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Robert Sawyer, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Golden, Colo. Mr. Miller was born in Lincoln, Neb., and had been a resident of the Tucumcari area since 1960. He was a member of Center Street United Methodist Church of Tucumcari. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. For many years he owned and operated the Palomino Motel on Tucumcari Blvd. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; and a sister, Maple Holmquist of Missoula, Mont. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home until service time. Belle Heckendorn TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Belle Heckendorn, 87, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home. Mrs. Heckendorn was born in Denver and moved to Quay County in 1928. She lived at Bard and graduated from Endee High School at Endee. She married John Melvin Heckendorn in 1932 at Bard. She moved to Tucumcari in 1952. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She worked for the ASCS office in Tucumcari and Jennings Furniture Store. Mrs. Heckendorn was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Harry Heckendorn of Tucumcari; three daughters, Betty Bonds of Albuquerque, Donna Wallace of Aurora, Colo., and Patricia Stevenson of Alamogordo; three sisters, Ollie Roach of Amarillo, Grace Morgan of Tucumcari and Elnola Hance of Pueblo, Colo.; three brothers, Tom Morgan of Hale Center, Texas, Frank Morgan of Bard and Donald Morgan of Fort Sumner; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home until noon today. Dorothy Eva Chavez CLOVIS, N.M. - Dorothy Eva Chacon Chavez, 50, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in San Jon. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe by the Rev. John C. Daniel. Burial will be in the city of San Jon Cemetery by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Chavez was born in San Jon and moved to Clovis in 1967. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community in Clovis. She married Luis Chavez in 1991 at Clovis. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Clemente Chacon of Clovis and Daniel Chacon of Amarillo; three daughters, Linda Mortensen and Theresa Dominguez, both of Clovis, and Punky Vaughn of Portales; five sisters, Tillie Vigil and Kate Gonzales, both of Amarillo, Maria Guerrero of Friona, Texas, Angie Vidana of Farwell, Texas, and Christina Rodriquez of Clovis; five brothers, Sammy Chacon of California, Greg Chacon of Clovis, Manuel Chacon and Leo Chacon, both of Amarillo, and Henry Chacon of Tucumcari; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Elsewhere John F. Etchison Jr. EDEN, N.C. - John Frank Etchison Jr., 73, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in McFarling Family Cemetery in Yanceyville. Military honors will be by Honor Guard Post No. 325 of Danville, Va. Mr. Etchison was a native of Advance. He retired from the military, serving in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a construction superintendent. He attended Osborne Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie McFarling Etchison. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Etchison of Groom, Texas; three daughters, Sherry Baker and Lori Sawyers, both of Eden, and Jamie Tackett of Ripley, Okla.; two sons, Terry Etchison of Mena, Ark., and Larry Etchison of Pampa, Texas; stepchildren, J'Linna Finck and Justin Harris, both of Texas, and Jay Harris of Arkansas; two sisters, Shirley Absher of Pleasant Garden and Betty Horn of Greensboro; three brothers, Glenn Etchison and Jim Etchison, both of Greensboro, and George Etchison of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and 18 grandchildren.
