Mr. Byerley was born in Crosbyton and had been an Amarillo resident for 13 years. He was a graduate of Levelland High School and attended Texas Tech University. He earned his bachelor's degree from Western New Mexico University and his master's degree from Southwest Texas State University. Mr. Byerley was a teacher and coach in Anton, Hale Center and Perryton. He ran the junior high program in Perryton for 15 years then served as administer for seven years. He retired in 1983. He was a member of Top of Texas Coaches Hall of Fame and St. Paul United Methodist Church. He married Dott Motl in 1947 at Anton. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike Byerley of Lubbock and Chris Byerly of Joshua; two daughters, Susan Meek of Amarillo and Cindy Snell of Fort Worth; his mother, Floy Byerley of Hale Center; a brother, Earl Byerley of Bandera; seven grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. Mr. Ladd was self-employed as a horticulturist at Ladd Farms. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and the Amarillo Botanical Gardens where he served on the board of directors. Mrs. Whitley was born and raised in Amarillo. She was a 1946 graduate of Amarillo High School. She moved to Austin in 1969 where she retired from St. David's Hospital. She moved to Crowell in 1984 and was a member of Faith Bible Baptist Church. She married Billy Gene Whitley in 1947 at Amarillo. Mr. Nguyen was born in Vietnam and came to the United States in 1983. He moved to Liberal in 1991 where he had been employed at National Beef Packing for seven years. He was a junior at Liberal High School. Jesse Lee Burroughs Jr. GRANBURY - Jesse Lee Burroughs Jr., 47, died Friday, June 19, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Howard Childers officiating. Arrangements are by Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury. Mr. Burroughs was born in Bremerton, Wash. He graduated from Star Spencer School in Oklahoma City. He started his career as an electrician in 1966 in Amarillo, earning his journeyman's license in 1969. In 1975, Mr. Burroughs was employed by Hughes Aircraft in California then returned to Amarillo in 1976. He was employed by Halliburton and the city of Amarillo. In 1992, he moved to Granbury where he was a traffic technician for the State of Texas. He was then an electrician at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant. Mr. Burroughs served as a Republican precinct chairman and coached for Kids, Inc., in several sports. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He helped rescue survivors in the Palo Duro Canyon flood of 1978. He married Nicki Nadine Neubauer in 1976 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jesse Michael Burroughs of Round Mountain, Nev., and Jesse William Burroughs of Granbury; two daughters, Kristin Fae Burroughs of Granbury and Crystal Nicole Burroughs of Reno, Nev.; two sisters; a brother; and two grandchildren. Oklahoma Jewell E. Ralstin GUYMON, Okla. - Jewell E. Ralstin, 81, died Saturday, June 20, 1998. Mrs. Ralstin was born near Hitchland and was a lifelong resident of Guymon. She graduated from Guymon High School in 1935. She was a homemaker and helped run the family business, Guymon Safety Lane and Ralstin Parts. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. She married Herman Ralstin in 1937 at Liberal, Kan. He preceded her in death. She was a 1941 graduate of Springlake High School and a graduate of West Texas State University. Mrs. Kelley taught school in Tucumcari, N.M., Earth and Muleshoe. She was a pianist for the Joy Choir and a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Eastern Star and the Muleshoe Hospital Auxiliary. Burial will be in Amistad Cemetery in Amistad by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. Mr. Cleveland was born in Kirkland, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of Union County, living in Amistad for most of his life. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1933 and was a member of North Plains Christian Church. He married Lilly Reif in 1937 at Clayton. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janna Lechner of Dumas, Texas; a son, Kendall L. "Buzzy" Cleveland of Clayton; two brothers, E.A. Ron Brewer and Dr. Mark Scott officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. The Rev. Louderback was born in Vona, Colo. He was a retired Methodist minister who served in Colorado, the Dakotas, Wyoming and New Mexico. He was an ordained elder in the New Mexico and Dakotas conferences. The Rev. Louderback served in the National Guard. He was a past member of the Hospice board and the Salvation Army Advisory Board. He married Wanda Johnson in 1984 at Clovis. The family requests memorials be to PRMC Hospice or the Salvation Army. Bonnie Vincent Bailey PORTALES - Bonnie Vincent Bailey died Friday, June 19, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. CDT Monday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor of First Baptist Church of Amarillo, officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary in Portales. Memorial services will be held Sept. 3 on the occasion of Mrs. Bailey's 100th birthday in Portales with time and location to be announced at a later date. Mrs. Bailey was born near Weatherford, Texas then moved to Roger Mills County, Okla., in 1911 where she graduated from Strong City High School. She attended Southwestern Oklahoma State College, Oklahoma University, Colorado University, Denver University and Eastern New Mexico University. She received her bachelor of arts degree in history, political science and government. Mrs. Bailey started her 37 year teaching career in one room schools in rural Oklahoma where she was both teacher and janitor. She taught for eight years in Oklahoma, three years in Miami, Texas and social studies at Portales Junior High School for 26 years. Mrs. Bailey served as president of the Portales Educational Association, Eastern District NEA-NM, ENMU Faculty Dames, and the Portales Women's Club from 1939 until 1941. She served on the district and state levels of the General Federation of Women's Clubs as third district president and as first vice-president of the state organization. She was a charter member in 1939 of the Chapter R-PEO Sisterhood and vice-president from 1944 until 1945. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and served as Democratic precinct chairman. In 1939, Mrs. Bailey organized and was the leader of an annual Citizenship Day in Portales. It was later recognized by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as a national celebration and renamed "American Day". In 1965, Mrs. Bailey was elected to the Eastern New Mexico Teacher's Hall of Fame. She was named Teacher of the Year by Portales Women's Club and New Mexico Teacher of the Year in 1959 by the New Mexico Federation of Women's Clubs. She was chosen Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the Year in 1984. Mrs. Bailey was presented the first Silver Key award for outstanding achievements by the National Broadcasters Association in Washington, D.C., in 1959. She chaired the Diamond Jubilee of the Portales Women's Clubs in 1978. Mrs. Bailey was a longtime Portales resident. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Portales. She married Plumer Milton "P.M." Bailey in 1928 at Cheyenne, Okla. Dr. Bailey died in 1974. Survivors include a sister, Rose Sartain of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Portales Cemetery with the Rev. J.R. "Dick" Ross officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary. Mrs. Riddle was born and raised in Kirby, Ark. After her marriage, she lived in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. She lived in Portales from 1953 until 1962 when she moved to Logan. While in Logan, Mrs. Riddle was active in First Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens organizations. In 1981, she moved to Tatum. She married Wallace W. Riddle in 1936 at Tucumcari. He died in 1978. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Wendall Patricia Wilson and Wilma Jean Riddle. Survivors include a daughter, Emily Wells of Tatum; a brother, Wallace W. Barentine of Kirby; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
