He was a World War II veteran. In 1952 he moved from Littlefield to Earth. He was a farmer. He married Bertie Thrash in 1951 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, James Lee Herriage of Earth; five daughters, Carla Scott of Overland, Kan., Judy Garcia of Earth, Kim Rodriguez of Amarillo, Kelli Hill of Gilbert, Ariz., and Michelle Miller of Dimmitt; two sisters, Juanita Gummelt of Amarillo and Judy Davis of McPherson, Kan.; and seven grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Earth Memorial Cemetery, Earth, TX 79031. Lawrence Lancaster WHEELER - Lawrence Lancaster, 84, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Wheeler Cemetery with the Rev. Ricky Griffin, pastor of First Baptist Church in Sanford, and the Rev. Ken Keller, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Amarillo, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Lancaster was born at Sand Springs. He lived in Pringle for 34 years before moving to Wheeler in 1983, when he retired as a pumper from Holt Oil Co. He was a member of the Panhandle Bluegrass Association and Wheeler Senior Citizens Association. He was a Presbyterian. He married Lucy Virginia Pollard in 1939 at Sayre, Okla. She died in 1985. Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Whelchel and Mary Burrow, both of Borger; a son, Larry D. Lancaster of Amarillo; a sister, Peggy Morse of Grady, N.M.; a granddaughter; and a greatgranddaughter. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, they request memorial contributions be to a favorite charity. Lin Petty SHAMROCK - Lin Petty, 75, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. in Shamrock Cemetery with the Rev. Joe G. Jernigan, pastor of Calvary Christian Fellowship Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Petty was born in Childress. During World War II he served with the Army in the China-Burma Theater. A Shamrock resident for 31 years, he worked in the oil field industry. He was a member of Merrills Marauders, the American Legion Deshazo George Post No. 68 and the Church of Christ. He married Oleta Cordell in 1943 at Shattuck, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Newstead and Pam O'Neal, both of Shamrock; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Amarillo Garland L. Toney Garland L. Toney, 77, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with Chaplain Chris Kutin officiating. Entombment will follow at Llano Mausoleum. Mr. Toney was born in Gore, Okla. During World War II he served with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific as a heavy equipment operator. He also served during the Korean War. In 1947, he moved from Colorado Springs, Colo., to Amarillo. He was a Protestant. Mr. Toney held a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering. A corrosion engineer, he was a member of the National Corrosion Association for more than 36 years. After returning to Colorado Springs in 1975, he received a special commendation from the Southern Gas Association for his help in establishing a school in corrosion mitigation. In 1980 he was certified by the state of Wyoming as a welding inspector. He married Lois T. Jones in 1954 at Clayton, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lynn Jones-May of Jacksonville, Ark.; a brother, Raymond Toney of Phoenix; a sister, Violet Palmtree of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and two granddaughters. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. They request memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice. Billy Lane Crawford Billy Lane Crawford, 45, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Jackie Finley, pastor of Christian Life Health Center, officiating. Entombment will follow the service. Arrangements are by Holley Funeral Home, Inc., of Canyon. Mr. Crawford was born in Amarillo, where he graduated from Caprock High School. At age 21 he was disabled in a construction accident. Survivors include his mother, Greta Lewis of Amarillo; a sister, Mildred Duke of Wellington; and four brothers, Claude Crawford of Dumas, Norman Crawford and Iman Crawford, both of Amarillo, and Mickey Crawford of Canyon. Oklahoma J.C. Bell LAWTON, Okla. - J.C. Bell, 75, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity Baptist Church in Lawton. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis by Stewart Funeral Service of Hollis. Mr. Bell was born in Hollis. In 1960 he moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he owned and operated Bell Electric until his retirement. In 1997 he returned to Lawton. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He married Molly Stewart in 1943 at Hollis. She died in 1997. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Jimmy D. Bell of Beaumont, Texas, and Larry Bell of Lawton; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Elsewhere Billie Jeanette Lewis PARIS, Tenn. - Billie Jeanette Lewis, 66, a former Amarillo, Texas, resident, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. Graveside services will be at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Cemetery in Paris with Jeff Hardy officiating. Arrangements are by Ridgeway Funeral Home. Mrs. Lewis was born in Canyon, Texas. She was a homemaker and a nurse. She graduated from Amarillo Vocational School of Nursing and was employed by High Plains Baptist Hospital as a Licensed Vocational Nurse before moving to Paris. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald H. Lewis. Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Stockdale of Paris; and two sisters, Leatha Brackenridge of Grand Saline, Texas, and Dorothy Pitts of Amarillo, Texas. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Tuesday. William L. Russell Jr. TEMPLE - William L. "Bill" Russell Jr., 77, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sheffield Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Bellomy officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Valley Cemetery. Mr. Russell was born in Spur. During World War II he operated Russell Manufacturing in Temple. He was the founder of Best Rite Chalkboard Co. He was a Baptist and a member of the Elks Club. He married Sue Taylor in 1961. Survivors include his wife; two sons, William L. Russell III and Robert A. Russell Sr., both of Austin; three daughters, Rolinda Russell Brindley of Temple, Pam Russell Roberts of Austin and Kitty Graves of Garland; one sister, Marjorie Burdett of Weatherford; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to Scott and White Hospital. Anita Faye Todd LIBERAL, Kan. - Anita Faye Todd, 42, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens by Kitch Funeral Home. Mrs. Todd was born in Amarillo, Texas. She was a homemaker. She moved from Amarillo, Texas, to Liberal 12 years ago. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. She married Mike Todd in 1986 at Panhandle, Texas. Survivors include her husband; a son, Jeremy Michael Todd of the home; a daughter, Morgan Joi Todd of the home; her mother, Faye Watkins of Canyon, Texas; and two sisters, Gail Shoemake of Amarillo and Melanie Sweet of Canyon. Visitation will be at the funeral home until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday.
