She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Mills, in 1988; by a son, Thomas Knatcher, in 1988; and by a daughter, Sasha Mae Knatcher, in 1989. Survivors include two daughters, Rita Davis of Frost and Bobbye Smith of Amarillo; two sons, Jimmy Knatcher of Mexia and Don Knatcher of Amarillo; a stepson, Larry Langan of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Davis, in 1991. Survivors include two sons, Eugene Gardner and Tarrence Gardner, both of Amarillo; four daughters, Janet Hollings, Jacquelin Gardner, Denise Allen and Ladonna Gardner, all of Amarillo; two sisters, Gladys Johnson of Oxnard, Calif., and Lessie Crosby of Waco; two stepsisters, Catherine Jones of Amarillo and Jerline Marshall of Lamesa; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She moved to Amarillo more than 40 years ago. She was a demonstrator at Sam's Club for more than six years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Boggs, in 1996. She moved to Amarillo four years ago from Dallas, having lived there for 50 years. She married James J. Butler in 1937 at Montgomery. He died in 1987. She was a charter member of the Lazy Susan Garden Club. She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Canyon and a past member of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas. He retired as a radiation tech in Los Alamos, N.M., and moved to Amarillo in 1990. He was a member of BPOE of Los Alamos. He married Georgina L. Rankin in 1948 at Elkhart. Mrs. Maddox was born in Cottle County near Paducah. She moved to Mangum after her marriage then to Amarillo in 1948. She was a homemaker. She married Eldeen Maddox in 1931. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Jim Maddox of Amarillo; three brothers, Arline Brewster of Mangum, George Travis Brewster of Amarillo and Bill Dean Brewster of Wichita Falls; and three grandchildren. Area Reta Leah Reeves DUMAS - Reta Leah Reeves, 88, died Friday, March 20, 1998. Graveside services were at 9 a.m. Saturday in Dumas Cemetery with Daryl Reeves officiating. Arrangements were by Morrison Funeral Directors. Ms. Reeves was born in Hurley, N.M. She was a former longtime resident of Orange County, Calif. She had been a Dumas resident for the past four months. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a son, Daryl Reeves of Dumas. Emma Ruth Echols PLAINVIEW - Emma Ruth Echols, 92, of Clovis, N.M., a former Plainview resident, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Plainview Cemetery with Brad Huckbee, associate pastor at Harvest Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements were by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Echols was born in Lexington, Okla., and moved to the Post area at an early age. She attended Wayland Baptist University and received an LVN certificate from the old Plainview Hospital in 1948. She worked in the polio ward at Plainview Hospital. She retired in 1973 and did private home nursing for many years. She married Robert Charles Echols in 1926. He died in 1943. She also was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Echols, in 1949. Mrs. Echols was a member of First Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include two sons, Virgil Echols of Clovis, N.M., and Corrol Echols of Oxnard, Calif.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. J.B. Holland CHILDRESS - J.B. Holland, 75, died Thursday, March 19, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim McCurley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Holland was born in Amarillo. He moved with his family to Childress in 1927. He graduated from Childress High School in 1940 and attended Hardin-Simmons University for two years. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served as a B-17 bomber pilot during World War II. He was shot down in Germany in 1943 and was taken as a prisoner of war for 18 months. After World War II, Mr. Holland returned to Childress and went into the scrap metal business with his father. He continued to operate Holland Metal Co. until retiring in 1987. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church. He served on the Childress school board from 1958 to 1964 and on the Childress City Council from 1976 to 1982. He was mayor of Childress from 1982 to 1988. Mr. Holland married Mary Kate Baker in 1943 at Childress. Survivors include his wife; two sons, John B. Holland Jr. of Hurst and Joe Holland of Breckenridge, Colo.; three daughters, Linda Barlow of Childress, Evelyn Hudson of Amarillo and Jay Nell Sherman of Round Rock; a brother, Sid Holland Jr. of Chatham, N.J.; a sister, Nell Sprinkle of Abilene; and 10 grandchildren. Bryan Rupprecht CANADIAN - Bryan Rupprecht, 21, died Thursday, March 19, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in First Christian Church with Dr. Lewis Holland, pastor of First United Methodist Church, and the Rev. David Marak, pastor of the Believers Covenant Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mr. Rupprecht was born in Graham. He and his family moved to the Canadian area in 1981. He graduated with honors from Canadian High School, where he was president of his senior class and had participated in track, basketball, football and UIL literary events. As a junior at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Mr. Rupprecht was on the dean's honor roll. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canadian. Survivors include his parents, Benny and Connie Rupprecht of Canadian; a sister, Amber Rupprecht of Canadian; and his grandmother, Mary Kathern Ellenwood of Austin. Mr. Jenkins was born in Hutchinson County and had been a lifetime resident of the Spearman area. He was a retired farmer and rancher. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He served six years with the Marines before and during World War II. He was a veteran of the Battle of Iwo Jima. Mr. Jenkins married Dot Berner Richardson in 1941 at Borger. She died in 1981. Survivors include a son, Carroll J. Richards of Leesville, La.; a sister, Hazel Brooks of Amarillo; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mrs. Burelsmith was born in Lubbock and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1939. She graduated from Texas Tech University in 1942 with a bachelor's degree and om 1945 with a master's degree. She also completed additional graduate studies. She taught school in Hereford, Hale Center, Plainview, Lubbock, Crosbyton and Ralls. She retired after 40 years of teaching. Mrs. Burelsmith moved from Hale Center to Deaf Smith County in 1968. She married M.T. Burelsmith in 1953 at Lubbock. Survivors include her husband; a son, Larry Burelsmith of Lubbock; a brother, W.C. Dub Cline of Lubbock; and three grandchildren. Lorene Liner WELLINGTON - Lorene Liner, 70, died Saturday, March 21, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Christian Church in Memphis with Tom Posey, retired minister, and the Rev. Bob Reid, pastor of Travis Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Liner was born in Grannis, Ark., and moved to Lillie Community of Collingsworth, Colo., in 1928. She graduated from Quail High School in 1945. She moved to Memphis in 1955. She was a homemaker and member of First Christian Church. She married Richard Liner in 1959 at Memphis. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mike Liner of Lubbock and Chris Liner of Memphis; a daughter, Kelli Wright of Dallas; four sisters, Rebbie Snider of Wellington, Leitha Brownlee of Amarillo and Irene Barth and Janie Lowe, both of Shamrock; 13 grandchildren; and 2 great-granddaughters. Mattie Sue Howell Mattie Sue Howell, 89, of Hereford, and a longtime resident of Canyon, died Friday, March 20, 1998. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Miss Howell was born in Tulia. She graduated from Crosbyton High School in 1925. She attended Clarendon College and Texas Tech University where she received her A.B. degree in 1932. She earned her masters degree in Christian education in 1943 from Scarritt College. Miss Howell taught for two years in Smith Ward School near Crosbyton then taught in Olton schools from 1927 until 1940. She was director of Christian education at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock then was director of youth work in the Northwest Texas Conference from 1943 until 1947. She was on the faculty of Scarritt College until 1957. She was then Christian education director in churches in Midland, El Campo, Plainview and Canyon when she retired in 1973. She made her home in Canyon until moving to Hereford in 1991. Miss Howell was a member of First United Church in Canyon, United Methodist Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Canyon Senior Citizens, Canyon Retired Teachers Association and the Woman's Book Club. Survivors include a nephew, Thomas O. Howell of Pascagoula, Miss.; a greatnephew and great-niece; and a cousin. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Mountain View Cemetery in Pueblo, Colo., by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Diment was born in Gunnison, Colo. She was raised in Salida, Colo., and graduated from high school in 1934. She received her nursing degree from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1939. She moved to Pueblo in 1940 where she was employed as a nurse from 1948 until 1969. She moved to Fort Worth in 1970 and to Clovis in 1985. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clovis. She moved to Plainview in 1995. She married Troy Diment in 1940 at Pueblo. He died in 1969. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Annette "Peggy" Beasley of Cairo, Egypt; a son, Robert Allen Diment of Philadelphia; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Lowell Stephen Dement PLAINVIEW - Lowell Stephen Dement, 78, died Thursday, March 19, 1998. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Dement was born in Harmon County, Okla., and moved to Childress at a young age. He was a World War II veteran of the Army and served under General Patton in Europe from 1943 until 1945. After his discharge, he was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad. He moved to Plainview in 1979 where he was a member of First Baptist Church and the Pastors Class. He married Earline White in 1947 at Fort Worth. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sandi Miller of Lubbock; a brother, Leo Dement of Portales, N.M.; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. New Mexico Charles Valmore Coulter CLAYTON, N.M. - Charles Valmore "Bill" Coulter, 87, died Thursday, March 19, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. today and Pastor Melvin Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Texline Cemetery at Texline, Texas. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors. Mr. Coulter was born in Sandusky, Ill. He was raised in Oblong, Ill., where he graduated from high school in 1928. He delivered mail in Oblong before moving to New Mexico in 1930. He married Bonneetah Weishaar in 1936 at Abbot. They farmed and ranched near Farley until 1955. Since 1955, they had farmed and ranched in the Texline area. Mr. Coulter became a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1931. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Henry Coulter, in 1964. Survivors include his wife of Texline; two sons, Ron W. Coulter and Lloyd V. Coulter, both of Texline; two daughters, Valeetah Motschiedler of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Janeece Jung of Colton, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren. Elvin Odell Tuggle FORT SUMNER, N.M. - Elvin Odell "Buddy" Tuggle, 79, a longtime Wayside, Texas resident, died Saturday, March 21, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. (CST) Monday in Wayside Community Church in Wayside. Burial will be in the Wayside Cemetery by Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner. Mr. Tuggle was born in Cleburne, Texas. He was raised in Munday where he attended schools. He was an Army veteran of World War II where he served with the 7th Division, Company G, 32nd Infantry from 1941 until 1945. His tour included the Aleutian Islands and Eastern Mandates, southern Philippines and Rvukyus. His citations included the American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater, Purple Heart and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Mr. Tuggle was employed by Vultree Consolidated in Fort Worth in the 1940s. He farmed in Wayside from 1951 until 1989. He moved to Fort Sumner in 1995. He was a longtime member of the Wayside Community Church and was a Methodist. He married Martha O. Roberts in 1945 in Jefferson City, Mo. Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Paul of Fort Sumner; three sisters, Evelyn Elliott of Munday, Mazell Shipman of San Antonio and Wilma Kirkland of Fort Worth; two brothers, Dorris Tuggle of Plains, Texas and Bobby Joe Tuggle of Wichita Falls, Texas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dipprey was born in Vanoss, Okla. She was employed as a supervisor at Lamb County Cannery from 1943 until it closed in 1946. She then worked as a cook at Clint's Cafe in Littlefield for 20 years. She also worked at other Littlefield restaurants for several years before retiring in 1973. She was a member of Missionary Baptist Church. Her husband, Dave Dipprey, preceded her in death in 1961. Survivors include four daughters, Edith Briton of Amarillo, Alice Hebel of Paducah, Frankie Marsh of Fort Worth and Juanelle Elliott of Lubbock; a brother, Fred Owens of Amarillo; a sister, Esta Reel of Longview; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-greatgrandchild. Evelyn May Gilpatrick PORT ANGELES, Wash. - Evelyn May Gilpatrick, 73, a native of Spearman, died Thursday, March 19, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in First Christian in Port Angeles with the Rev. David Moffitt officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hansford Cemetery in Spearman, Texas, by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Arrangements in Port Angeles are by Drennan and Ford Funeral Home. Mrs. Gilpatrick was born in Spearman and graduated from Spearman High School. She lived in the Reno, Nev., area after her marriage. She was involved in archaeological study groups and was a member of the Pharmaceutical Wives Club. She moved to Port Angeles in 1979 where she was a member of First Christian Church. She married Robert Wayne Gilpatrick in 1959 at Las Vegas. He died in 1995. She is survived by two nieces, Bonnie Cox and Judy Cruz of Texas and Ann Gilpatrick of Silverton, Ore. David Carroll Hollar AUSTIN - David Carroll Hollar, 50, died on Thursday, March 19, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Austin. Burial will be in Walnut Creek Baptist Cemetery by Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home. Mr. Hollar was born and raised in Amarillo. He was a 1965 graduate of Amarillo High School and attended Amarillo College. He was a Navy veteran where he was one of the support personnel at the research base at Byrd Station, Antarctica. He was part of Operation Deep Freeze. His other tours were in New Zealand and Puerto Rico. After his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Hollar attended Texas Tech University and the University of Texas where he earned his bachelor degree in biology in 1974. He received his master of arts in agricultural economics in 1976 from Texas A&M University. Mr. Hollar was employed as a commodity broker for Merrill Lynch in Dallas, Little Rock and Fort Smith, Ark. He was a senior livestock analyst with Merrill Lynch in New York City and a cattle trader in Houston. For the past 13 years, he was an insurance agent in Houston. He earned the designation of LUTCF in the fall of 1997. He had moved to Austin in June of 1997. Survivors include his wife; Marilyn; two sons, Charles Griffith Hollar and Neal Calcote Hollar, both of Austin; and his sister, Martha Sue Hollar Lusk. Charles Stewart AMHERST, N.H. - Charles Stewart, 65, died on Friday, March 20, 1998. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Congregational Church of Hollis, N.H. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Zis-Sweeney Funeral Home in Nashua, N.H. Mr. Stewart was born in Dalhart, Texas and raised in Perico, Texas. He graduated from Clayton, N.M., High School in 1950. In 1954, he received his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Texas Technologial College. Mr. Stewart was an Engineering Fellow at Lockheed-Sanders in Nashua where he held several technical and engineering positions for 25 years. He was the 10th recipient of the President's Quarterly Award for Distinguished Technical Achievement for his development of radar signal sorting and tracking algorithms. After retiring in 1990, Mr. Stewart founded the Stewart Consulting, Ltd. He moved to Nashua in 1965 and moved to Amherst in 1990. He married Mary Kay Winters with whom he celebrated their 46th anniversary in December. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathy Jean of Hollis, and Teri Savage of Mission Viejo, Calif.; two brothers, John Stewart of Dalhart and Art Stewart of Hurst; and five grandchildren. Canyon Elva Jean Shepic Elva Jean Shepic, 70, of Canyon, died Friday, March 20, 1998. Private graveside services will be at a later date in Memory Gardens Cemetery at Pampa with the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor of First Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. The body was cremated. Arrangements are by CarmichaelWhatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Shepic was born in Pampa and graduated from Pampa High School in 1946. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from West Texas State University. She married Mike Shepic in 1951 at Pampa. Mrs. Shepic had been a resident of Canyon since 1967. She taught English at West Texas State University and at Canyon High School for 17 years before retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Canyon Classroom Teachers Association, the TEA and the NEA. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Andrea Bayless Phillips of Amarillo; two sons, Jeff Shepic of Austin and Joe Shepic of Canyon; and four grandchildren. The body will not be available for viewing. Oklahoma Robert Eugene Jacobs FELT, Okla. - Robert "Bob" Eugene Jacobs, 80, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Felt United Methodist Church with Billy Rammage officiating. Burial will be in Bertrand Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City. Mr. Jacobs was born in Felt and raised in the Bertrand area. He married Matie Bell Fedric in 1935 at Stratford, Texas. They moved to Kerrick, Texas, and later to Stratford, Texas. Mr. Jacobs farmed and worked in a welding shop. He later opened his own welding shop and Moline Implement Dealer. He sold his welding shop to his son, Don, and he sold out his implement dealership before moving to Felt in the 1970s. He was a member of Felt United Methodist Church and the Felt Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1994. Survivors include two sons, Don Jacobs of Edgemont, S.D., and Gary Jacobs of Felt; two daughters, Kay Payne of Stratford and Reta Zak of Amarillo; a brother, Loyd Jacobs of Felt; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Cimarron County EMT scholarship fund. Christie Dale Cryer FELT, Okla. - Christie Dale Cryer, 24, died Thursday, March 19, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in St. Paul's United Methodist Church with David George and Tom Milbern officiating. Burial will be in Boise City Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary. Mrs. Cryer was born in Dumas, Texas. She was raised in and around Boise City. In 1992, she graduated from Boise City High School, where she was a cheerleader, a basketball player during her freshman year and a member of the Rodeo Club and the MYF group. After high school, she attended Panhandle State University. She married Mick Cryer in 1994 at Boise City. Mrs. Cryer had been a bookkeeper at Cimarron Lumber Yard since 1993. She
