No services are planned in Amarillo. Cremation was under the direction of Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Shramek was born in Baltimore, Md., where she had lived all of her life until moving to Amarillo a month ago. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Riley of Amarillo. The family will be at 4406 Clearwell and request memorials be to the Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center. LaMoine Corner LaMoine Corner, 87, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Southwest Church of Christ with Brent Adams and Ben Mereness officiating. Burial will be in Llano Mausoleum by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Corner was born in Tillman County, Okla. She attended school in Ralls and Slaton. She lived with her family on a farm outside Post and later moved to Seminole, Okla. She was active in the Church of Christ. She married Frank Conner in 1936 at Seminole, Okla. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Judy Nance of Richardson; a son, Gene Corner of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, P.O. Box 7448, Amarillo, TX 79114-9990. Audrey Mae Baughman Holladay Audrey Mae Baughman, 56, of Amarillo, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Holladay was born in Henrietta, Okla. She was an Amarillo resident for more than 30 years. Survivors include two daughters, Carla Armstrong and Autumn Penland, both of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. Monroe D. Gosnell Monroe D. Gosnell, 86, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum with the Rev. Mr. Gosnell was born in Borger and had been an Amarillo resident for 25 years. He was a wildcatter in the oil industry and was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Gosnell, in 1995 and by a son, Harry Gosnell, in 1973. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Hawkins and Frances Attebury, both of Amarillo, and Barbara Johnson of Owensboro, Ky.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and seven greatgreat-grandchildren. Kevin Bushart officiating. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery by SteedTodd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Simons was born in the Rock Lake community and had been a Melrose resident since 1911. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1930. In 1932, she married Loyd Simons at Fort Sumner. They farmed and ranched in the Melrose area. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Keith Simons and Kenneth Simons, both of Greenville, Texas; a brother, Earl Carter of Clovis; and a sister, Mona Robinson of Tularosa. Elleanor Blevins CLOVIS, N.M. - Elleanor Blevins, 88, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in 16th and Pile Church of Christ with Willie Tollison officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. CDT in Littlefield Memorial Park at Littlefield, Texas. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Blevins was born in Taylor County, Texas. She married Guy L. Blevins in 1935 south of Sudan, Texas. They moved to Clovis in 1944 and later lived in Lovington, returning to Clovis in 1981. She was a member of 16th and Pile Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a son, Guy Leon Blevins, in 1955. Survivors include her husband; three children, G.A. Blevins of Hobbs, Delores Eichenberger of Clovis and Ed R. Blevins of Lovington; two brothers, Bethel Ray of Corvallis, Ore., and Jerry Ray of Sudan; three sisters, Donnie Lambert of Yuma, Ariz., Connie Rendleman of Lubbock, Texas, and Mae Blevins of Littlefield; and six grandchildren. Arther Vernon Burch CLOVIS, N.M. - Arther Vernon "Tater" Burch, 97, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church at Melrose with the Rev. Kevin Bushart officiating. Burial will be in Old Melrose Cemetery at Melrose with Masonic rites. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Burch was born in Waller, Texas, and was a longtime resident of the Rocklake, Melrose and Clovis areas. His parents homesteaded northwest of Melrose in 1906. He farmed most of his life. He was a longtime member of the First Methodist churches of Melrose and Clovis. In 1949, he became a member of the Masonic Lodge 39 of Melrose. He had been married to Nellie Virginia Chamberland for 73 years. He was preceded in death by three infant sons and two infant daughters. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Melva Jo Henry of Melrose and Kendale Kay Burch of Clovis; four sons, R.L. "Spud" Burch, Cecil Burch and Jack Burch, all of Melrose, and Waylon Burch of Clovis; two brothers, Fred Burch and Bill Burch, both of Clovis; a sister, Minnie Grant of Clovis; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven greatgreat-grandchildren. Laura Mae Reid PORTALES, N.M. - Laura Mae Reid, 88, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Portales Cemetery with Rev. Bob Bell officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Reid was born in Canute, Okla. She grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from high school in Calumet. She attended business college in Oklahoma City. She moved to Portales about 1950. She worked as a secretary for Dr. Howard McDonald and at the Portales Junior High School. She married Henry Reid in 1955 and they purchased a ranch in the Milnesand area in 1955. She then worked for the Dora schools, retiring in 1969. She was active in the Republican Party and was a member of the Milnesand Homemaker's Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry. Survivors include a sister, Elsie Johnson of Roswell, N.M. Bill Simpson PORTALES, N.M. - Bill Simpson, 78, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Elmore officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery. Mr. Simpson was born in Carter, Okla. He moved with his family to Portales in 1938, where he finished high school. He attended Eastern New Mexico University for two years. He helped on the family farm and in the 1940s began driving a truck. He worked off and on for many years for Woolley Trucking, retiring in 1982. He had been married to Avis more than 54 years. Survivors include his wife; two sons, George Edward Thompson of Desert Shore, Calif., and Lloyd Dale Thompson of Fayetteville, Ark.; two daughters, Eugenia "Jean" Graves of Austin and Joyce Vandiver of Albuquerque; a sister, Sammie Lee Dallas of Midland, Texas; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Irma Lou Thompson CLOVIS, N.M. - Irma Lou Thompson, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Rush and Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Thompson was born in Rayland Wilbarger County, Texas, and was a lifetime resident of Clovis. She retired as a secretary from Cannon Air Force Base civil service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Esther Sunday School Class. She married Edward E. Thompson Jr., in 1945. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Fred Tharp of Clovis and Roy Patton of Albuquerque; a sister, Frances Snyder of Clovis; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-greatgrandchildren; and a great-great-greatgrandchild. Area George Robert Close SHAMROCK - George Robert "Bob" Close, 68, of Marshfield, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Shamrock Cemetery with the Rev. Tracy Wilson, pastor of First Christian Church of Duncan, Okla., officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors of Shamrock. Mr. Close graduated from Shamrock High School, Texas Tech University and the University of Texas Law School. In 1955, he married Ann Lee Turner. He was a partner in the law firm of Lemon, Close, Atkinson, Shearer and Ehrlick for 30 years in Perryton. Mr. Close served as County Attorney of Ochiltree County for 12 years. For three terms, he was a representative for the 64th district in the Texas Panhandle. He served as liaison between the legislature and Gov. Bill Clement's office during the 67th session. Mr. Close was a member of the Marshfield Christian Church and a veteran of the Air Force. He married Evelyn Cunningham in 1982. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Paige Close of Memphis, Tenn., Lee Close of Haines, Alaska, and Allen Cunningham of Grand Junction, Colo.; three daughters, Paris Close of Austin, Jacqueline Naylor of Balko, Okla., and Julie Ellis of Perryton; his mother, Katie Close of Shamrock; a brother, Bryan Close of Shamrock; a sister, Bernice Collingsworth of Shamrock; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Johnston FRITCH - Clarence H. "Red" Johnston, 67, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Fairlanes Baptist Church of Borger with the Rev. Art McAninch, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Serenity in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Johnston was born in Sentinel, Okla., and had been an area resident for 55 years. A veteran of the Navy, he served during the Korean conflict. Mr. Johnston retired as supervisor of transportation for Phillips Petroleum Co. He was a member of Fairlanes Baptist Church and Adobe Walls Masonic Lodge No. 1355. He married Jenny Hamilton in 1950 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Harold Don Johnston of Fritch; two daughters, Gena Whisenant and Cindy Johnston, both of Amarillo; four sisters, Nelda Lincecum of Houston, Janell Morgan of Dallas, Charlene Pulley of Hobart, Okla., and Willine Sweeney of Dennison; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home in Borger. Dan Thornberry CLAUDE - Dan Thornberry, 78, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Wichita Falls with the Rev. Gerald Albers, pastor of First Baptist Church of Claude, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Thornberry was born in Wichita Falls and graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1939. He was self-employed as a rancher and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Claude. He married Joan Ashley in 1951 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; and a sister, Pat Hatcher of Camdenton, Mo. The family suggests memorials be to American Cancer Society. Ola B. Hunter WELLINGTON - Ola B. Hunter, 94, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Church of Christ with Alfred White, retired minister of Claude, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Hunter was born in Quail and was a lifetime resident of Collingsworth County. She was employed in the Fashion Shop in Wellington for many years. She was a homemaker, active in the RSVP program and was a member of the Church of Christ. She married Earl Hunter in 1925 at Wellington. He died in 1988. Survivors include a son, Clifton Earl Hunter of Mustang, Okla.; a daughter, Mary Ann Cunningham of Shamrock; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Westview Boys Home or a favorite charity. Rebbie M. Snider WELLINGTON - Rebbie M. Snider, 91, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Church of Christ with Tom Anderson, minister of Memphis Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Quail Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Snider was born in Cleburne and moved to Wellington in 1924. She was active in RSVP, president of the Resident Council Committee at the Wellington Care Center and a member of Church of Christ. She was a homemaker. She married W.B. "Bill" Snider in 1926 at Wellington. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1951 and by a daughter, Betty Sue Snider, in 1972. Survivors include three sisters, Leitha Brownlee of Amarillo and Janie Lowe and Irene Barth, both of Shamrock; and a special friend, LeAnn Popwell of Wellington. The family suggests memorials be to Church of Christ or Sean Delaney Memorial Scholarship Fund. Lola Tennant DUMAS - Lola Tennant, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Lane Memorial Cemetery of Sunray with the Rev. Dan Turner, minister of music of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Tennant was born in Bienville, La., and had been a Dumas resident since 1975. For many years, she was a resident of Antioch, Calif. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church in Dumas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny B. Tennant, and a son, Don Tennant. Survivors include a sister, Bonnie Hutchinson of Houston; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; and four great-greatgrandchildren. Bertha Schibbelhute Lloyd FRIONA - Bertha Schibbelhute Lloyd, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Calvary Baptist Church in Friona with the Rev. Bill Boyd of Roswell, N.M., and the Rev. Alvin Petty, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 5 p.m. in Follett Cemetery in Follett by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Mrs. Lloyd was born in Ellis County and moved to Friona in 1966 from Shattuck, Okla. She was a custodian for Friona ISD for many years and a member of Assembly of God Church. Her first marriage was to Otto Schibbelhute in 1933. He died in 1966. She married Fred Lloyd in 1967. He preceded her in death in 1992. Survivors include four daughters, Laverna Harmon of Follett, Evelyn Marie Edgar of Wichita, Kan., Ida Lee Wooley of Scott, Ariz., and Fay Gill of Dalhart; a sister, Lea Malone of Humboldt, Kan.; two half-sisters, Irene of Oklahoma City and Esther Sue Wilson of Amarillo; 22 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. J.D. Palmer ROARING SPRINGS - J.D. Palmer, 74, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church of Roaring Springs with the Rev. Donnie Howell of Littlefield and the Rev. C.L. Atkinson of Afton officiating. Burial will be in Roaring Springs Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mr. Palmer was born in Arkansas and had been a resident of Motley and Dickens counties since 1932. He served with the Army in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Palmer retired as a farmer and had worked as an appliance repairman for Thacker Supply Co. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He married Zella Goolsby in 1950 at Roaring Springs. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Palmer of Eureka, Kan., and Johnny Palmer of Matador; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
