Weidner SHATTUCK, Okla. - Chris E. Weidner, 79, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in United Methodist Church with the Rev. Woodrow Weidner officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery by Mason Funeral Home. Mr. Weidner was born in Colome, S.D., and was raised in the Follett, Texas, area, where he attended school. He married Margaret Belle Smith in 1941. They made their home on a farm north of Shattuck. He farmed and ranched all his adult life. He was a member of St. Paul Congregational Church. He was preceded in death by an infant son. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry Weidner of the home; a daughter, Jan Wellman of Oklahoma City; seven sisters, Elsie Kraft and Esther Oblander, both of Shattuck, Beata Borth and Erma Redelsperger, both of Follett, Emma Sauer of Amarillo, Clara McKee of Higgins, Texas and Jean Imke of Richardson, Texas; two brothers, Bill Weidner of Edmond, Okla., and Robert Weidner of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. New Mexico Aurora Sandoval CLOVIS, N.M. - Aurora Sandoval, 73, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe by the Rev. Daniel M. Balizan. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Sandoval was born in Lubbock, Texas, and had been a longtime resident of Clovis. She was a homemaker and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the St. Rita Society, and the 2nd Chapter of Acts Prayer Group. She married Thomas Sandoval in 1942 at Clovis. He preceded her in death. Survivors include five sons, Tommy Sandoval, Joe Sandoval, Lonnie Sandoval, Andy Sandoval and Rickey Sandoval, all of Amarillo; four daughters, Jane Seger of New Gloster, Maine, Judy Vasquez of Chase, Kan., and Helen Griego and Esther Tapia, both of Clovis; seven sisters, Marina Chavez, Adelina Trujillo, Mary Armijo, Lupe Duran and Erlinda Marquez, all of Clovis, Josephine Alires of Albuquerque and Flora Gonzales of Texico; 37 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She attended the University of Texas and graduated from the University of Chicago in 1920 with a degree in home economics. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the PEO Sisterhood. She was active in religious, social and civic affairs in Canadian. She worked as a seamstress in Canadian. She married Carlton Alois Studer in 1920 at Canadian. He died in 1967. Survivors include a son, Carlton A. Studer Jr. of Killeen; two daughters, Laura Louise Harris of Lubbock and Johanne Blodgett of Spearman; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Parrott was born in Okemah, Okla., to pioneers of Lamb County. He moved with his family in 1924 to Littlefield from Tipton, Okla. He farmed in the Littlefield area until retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Earlene Akin of Littlefield; two sons, Glenn D. Area Miguel Angel Vasquez Sr. HEREFORD - Miguel Angel Vasquez Sr., 64, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998. Mr. Vasquez was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Deaf Smith County in 1983 from Chicago. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church and was a laborer. Survivors include his wife, Antonio; three daughters, Yolanda Rios and Veronica Terry, both of Hereford and Martha Perez of Oceanside, Calif.; four sons, Miguel Angel Vasquez Jr. and Abel Vasquez, both of Hereford and Alfonso Vasquez and Bobby Vasquez, both of Chicago; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Willis L. Wood TULIA - Willis L. "Woody" Wood, 81, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Willborn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mr. Wood was born and raised in Burkburnett, where he attended schools. He lived in Hale Center before moving to Tulia in 1933. He attended West Texas Barber College in 1940 in Amarillo. He worked for Ship Serviceman Barber during World War II and was discharged in 1945. He returned to Tulia and worked for Mack Elliott before opening his own barber shop, Ideal Barber Shop. He had been a barber for 57 years. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member and Sunday school superintendent at First United Methodist Church. He married Louise West in 1954 at Tulia. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sue Morgan-Frye of Toronto, Ohio; a sister, Vera Roderick of Burkburnett; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Cecil B. Gray HEREFORD - Cecil B. "Jack" Gray, 82, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Bulin, pastor, officiating. He had been a pump rig foreman for Water Industries, where he had worked for 30 years. He married Trudy Trimble in 1942 at Munday. Mary Lee Marshall QUANAH - Mary Lee Marshall, 86, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at Dallas. Private graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Quanah Memorial Park with the Rev. Mrs. Marshall was born in Quanah and lived there all her life. She taught school over 40 years and also served as a principal. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the French Huguenot Society. She also was a member of the 1904 Club. She married Hugh Marshall in 1937 at Quanah. He died in 1981. Survivors include a son, John Hampton Marshall of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a daughter, Mary Talbott Bishop of Dallas; and five grandchildren. The Rev. Isom S. Ansley FRIONA - The Rev. Isom S. Ansley, 83, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. F.L. Sledge of Dalhart officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by EllisBlackwell Funeral Home. Rev. Ansley was born in Omaha and had lived in Friona since 1952. He founded St. Esthers Baptist Church in 1952 and served as pastor until retiring in 1994. He also was a member of St. Esthers Baptist Church. He married Versie Pauley in 1955 at Clovis, N.M. She died in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Tommie Adams of Houston; a brother, H.Y. Ansley of Dallas; three stepdaughters, Maewest Lee of Los Angeles, Thelma Dean Scott of Tulsa, Okla., and Dorothy Piggee of Jacksonville, Ark.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Margaret Smart MORTON - Margaret Smart, 48, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Morton Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Smart was born in Littlefield and had lived in Morton most of her life. She was a 1968 graduate of Morton High School and a 1971 graduate of Texas Tech University. She had taught school in Roosevelt, Amarillo and for the past 12 years in Morton. She was a member of the Morton Classroom Teachers Association and the Morton Athletic Booster Club. She married Billy Smart in 1970 at Morton. They owned and operated Smart's Food Mart in Morton for many years. He died in July. She was a former resident of Paducah and had lived in Marlin about 50 years prior to moving to Azle. She was a retired cashier, seamstress and farmer. She was a Catholic. A son, Johnny Lloyd, preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Butch Lloyd of Brazoria; an adopted daughter, Janet Pappas of Azle; two sisters, Elbena McCormick and Helen Johnston, both of Paducah; eight grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. Amarillo Effie L. Baker Effie L. Baker, 89, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998. She graduated in 1931 from Brantley Draughon Business College at Fort Worth. She was a secretary for several years and later a homemaker. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was a life member of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Amarillo. Her husband, Robert W. Baker, preceded her in death. Survivors include two nephews, Jerry Conner of Hurst and Danny Conner of Houston. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund. Don Bowie Don Bowie, 85, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street with the Rev. Robert T. Harden, of the Church of the Ascension, and the Rev. Norman Stuppi, assistant minister of Church of the Ascension, officiating. Cremation will be by Memory Gardens Crematory. Mr. Bowie was born in Amarillo. He graduated in 1931 from Wichita Falls High School at Wichita Falls and received a bachelor's and masters degree from West Texas State University. He attended the University of Texas where he was the first member of the UT Student Pilot Club to make a parachute jump in 1935. He was an experienced pilot of private and company planes and was a passenger on the first Ford Motor Tri-plane to land in Amarillo, piloted by his uncle, Frank Hawks. Mr. Bowie was employed at Harrington and Marsh, Morrow-Thomas Hardware and was vice president at BakerTaylor Drilling Co., retiring in 1984 after 30 years as comptroller of finance. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Amarillo Country Club, the Pilot Association and the Air Craft Private Owners Association. He also was a member of the Church of Ascension. He married Evelyn Franklin in 1936 at Wichita Falls. Survivors include his wife; two sons, George Bowie of Austin and Frank Bowie of Fort Worth; two sisters, Jean Bowie Thorpe of Amarillo and Beth Bowie Conlin of Lake San Marcos, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was a veteran in the Air Corps during World War II. He received six bronze stars and a Purple Heart. He was a former Mason and a member of Freedom Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lee, in 1993. Survivors include a son, Ed Moffatt of Amarillo; four daughters, Brenda Cope of Bloomfield, Iowa, Beth Davison and Becky Valentine, both of Chaska, Minn., and Kathy Sewell of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was raised a Baptist and also attended Pentecostal churches. He married Evelyn Hambrick in 1957 at Plains. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Johnny Spain of Gulfport, Miss., and David Spain of El Dorado, Kan.; two daughters, Pam Morris of Amarillo and Shearl Johnson of Pomona, Calif.; his mother, Hattie Spain of Artesia, N.M.; three brothers, Bobby Spain of Westminster, Calif., Jerry Spain of Sacramento, Calif., and Kelly Spain of Amarillo; two sisters, Sharon Newton and Sue Deason, both of Artesia; and eight grandchildren including grandson, Justin Morris of the home. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the funeral home. Evelyn Piker Evelyn Piker, 83, of Amarillo, a former Snyder resident, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church Chapel at Snyder with Dr. Marty Akins, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Snyder Cemetery at Snyder by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Mrs. Piker was born in Clyde. She married Johnny Piker in 1949 at Snyder. After retirement, they moved to Clyde and lived there until moving to Snyder. They lived in Snyder 10 years before moving to Amarillo about 18 months ago. They also had lived in Abilene. She had worked as a seamstress at Dyess Air Force Base. Yolanda G. Gomez Yolanda G. Gomez, 48, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave., with Father Domingo officiating. Cremation was handled by Colonial Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Gomez was born in Elsa and moved to Amarillo in 1978 from Hereford. She was a seamstress and the owner of Creative Source. She sewed for the Nutcracker Ballet and several other organizations. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. She married Harvey Gomez in 1970 at Hereford. Survivors include her husband; a brother, Gilbert Garza of Hereford; and two sisters, Melody Pacheco and Olga Garza, both of Hereford. Gladys Gaines Gladys Gaines, 96, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Gaines was born in Caps and moved to Amarillo in 1928 from Matador. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She graduated from business college in Albuquerque, N.M., and had served as a Pink Lady volunteer for Northwest Texas Hospital. She married Joseph "Bill" S. Gaines Sr. in 1924 at Tucumcari, N.M. He died in 1980. She also was preceded in death by a son, Joe S. Gaines Jr., and by two daughters, Jaurice Brandon and Billie Louise Bethel. Survivors include three grandchildren, Joe Gaines of Dalhart, Julie Blair of Amarillo and Sharon Cox of Austin. Jimmy Darrell Kellison Jimmy Darrell Kellison, 66, of Altus, Okla., a former longtime Amarillo resident, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40 with the Rev. Gary Kellison officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Kellison was born in Vinson, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1956. He served in the Army from 1953 until 1955 in the Korean War. He had worked as a carpet layer, an oil field worker and truck driver. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Altus Church of God. He married Nellwyn Bone in 1956 at Alice. She preceded him in death.
