Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Hass Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Dale Guidry, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart. Mr. Scardello was born in Decatur, Ill. After graduating from Decatur High School in 1939, he enlisted in the Army. He was stationed in Dalhart, serving as staff sergeant in charge of the military band. Mr. Scardello owned and operated the Ford dealership in Dalhart. At the time of his death he was employed by Phil Like Motor. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He married Fannie Louise Culbertson in 1944 at Decatur. She died in 1995. Survivors include two sons, Pete Scardello of Phoenix and Ben Scardello of Houston; a daughter, Caroline Rogers of Amarillo; a brother, Mike Scardello of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Lena Vigneri of Decatur and Florence Bertoldo of San Jose, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a special friend, Adell Jeffries of Stratford. Kenneth M. Curlock SAYRE, Okla. - Kenneth M. Curlock, 70, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998. Services will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Nazarene Church of Sayre with the Rev. Jack Abbott officiating. Burial will be in Sayre-Doxey Cemetery by Martin Funeral Home. Mr. Curlock was born at Marietta, Okla., and moved with his family to Borger, Texas, at the age of five. The family later moved to Gruver. He attended Canyon High School in order to play football. During World War II he served in the Navy. Mr. Curlock was employed as an electrician on construction projects in various states, including the construction of nuclear plants in Nevada and Arizona. He also worked in foreign countries. He attended the Nazarene Church. Survivors include his wife, Dean Lieb; two daughters, Susan Stowers of Sayre and Debora Steinbach of Washington; a sister, Peggy Jo Perryman of Monahans; a brother, William "Bill" Lieb of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. Jim Flippin Sr. CLARENDON - Jim "Barney" Flippin Sr., 63, a former Amarillo resident, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998. Services will be held in Amarillo at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Brentwood Chapel, Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St., with Brad Small of Amarillo South Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Flippin was born at Snyder. In 1956 he moved from Amarillo, working as a heavy equipment operator in Washington and in Alaska for 32 years. In 1996 he moved to Clarendon. He married Kim McCammond in 1997 at Bryan-College Station. Survivors include his wife; a son, Danny Flippin of Kenai, Alaska; two daughters, Janet Carr and Debbie Wolfe, both of Redmond, Wash.; five brothers, A.G. Flippin of Vega, Ray Flippin of Claude, Bill Flippin of West Plains, Mo., and Gene Flippin and Bob Flippin, both of Amarillo; three sisters, Willie Mae Mann and Hazel Morton, both of Amarillo, and Syble Milson of Odessa; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Memphis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Posey officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Cheek was born at Canadian. He was employed as a conductor by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad. He was a member of Travis Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Cheek; a daughter, Sandra Robinson of Fresno, Calif.; and two grandchildren. Vera K. Abbott Chaffin SHAMROCK - Vera K. "Pollye" Abbott Chaffin died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Dorn, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Chaffin was born in Taylor. A longtime resident of Shamrock, she was employed by several doctors as a registered nurse. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and the Senior Citizens Center. She married Fred Abbott in 1934 at Shamrock. He died in 1968. In 1977 she married Curtis R. Chaffin, M.D., at Wellington. She worked with Dr. Chaffin in his private practice until his death in 1984. Survivors include a daughter, Fredericka Barbour of Wheeler; a sister, Marie Louise Eaton of Napa, Idaho; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Pearl Edwards PLAINVIEW - Pearl "Sis" Edwards, 89, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Allen, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mrs. Edwards was born in Cross Plains. In 1924 she moved to Plainview, where she attended school. For many years she worked at Gabriel's. She was an RSVP volunteer for 20 years. She was named Volunteer of the Year this year. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She married Bill Edwards. He died in 1970. Survivors include a brother, Delmar Duncan of Plainview; a sister, Laverne Wachob of Colorado City, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. Inez Lawrence DUMAS - Inez Lawrence, 86, of Irving, a former Dumas resident, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church of Dumas with the Rev. Eddie Schafer of Pleasant Terrace Baptist Church, Dallas, and the Rev. Scott Willingham of First Baptist Church, Dumas, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Lawrence was born in Mount Vernon. A Dumas resident since 1984, she moved to Irving nine months ago. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dumas. Mrs. Lawrence was a homemaker and pastor's wife, pastoring with her husband for more than 60 years and traveling with him to religious crusades in more than 11 countries. She was a graduate of Baylor University. She married the Rev. William R. Lawrence in 1930. He died in 1992. She also was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lawrence, in 1955. Survivors include a son, Bill Lawrence of Dumas; a daughter, Janice Ruth of Irving; four grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 1005 Bennett. They request memorials be to a favorite charity. LaVerne Mullin TURKEY - LaVerne Mullin, 71, of Tulia, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Turkey Church of Christ. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by MyersLong Funeral Directors of Turkey. Mrs. Mullin was born in Turkey. She was a member of Central Church of Christ in Tulia and Swisher County Senior Citizens. She married H.A. "Sonny" Mullin at Amarillo. He died in 1981. She also was preceded in death by a son, Dan Davis, in 1995. Survivors include her mother, Willie Beatrice Lacy; and a brother, Johnny Lacy of Georgetown. The family requests memorials be to the Turkey Volunteer Fire Department or to the Turkey E.M.S. Amarillo Ruby P. Hall Ruby P. Hall, 85, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St., with the Rev. Roy S. Wheeler and the Rev. Bob Murphy of Paramount Terrace Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Hall was born in Retrop, Okla. She was a homemaker. In 1954 she moved from Canadian, Texas, to Amarillo. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and the Wild Rose Ladies Auxiliary. She married Marvin M. Hall in 1933 at Retrop. He died in 1995. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Cain and Barbara Brown, both of Amarillo; a brother, Raymond Boyd of Lakewood, Colo.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandsons. Audrey Gene Needham Audrey Gene Needham, 66, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Tommy Needham of First Baptist Church and the Rev. Raymond Bowling, pastor, First Baptist Church, Bushland, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Needham was born in Collingsworth County. During the Korean War he served in the Army. An Amarillo resident since 1950, he retired from Pantex after 26 years as refrigeration machinist Local 1255 technician. After retirement Mr. Needham became certified as a master gardener, volunteering at Amarillo High School as an instructor in the master gardener program. He also volunteered with the YES program in the 79107 Gardening Project and as a math tutor at San Jacinto Elementary School with the HOST program. He was a former deacon at Avondale Baptist Church, serving for more than 20 years. He married Ruby Ellen Calcote in 1949 at Wellington. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark Needham of Amarillo; a daughter, Sharon Evans of Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Hazel Ray of Majalia, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
