Ninth Ave. Mr. Purkey was born in Merit. He was employed as a truck driver. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Burgett Purkey. Survivors include a son, Kenny Purkey Jr. of Amarillo; two brothers, James Purkey and Don Purkey, both of McKinney; and two sisters, Dorothy Carol Stroman of Mesquite and Juanetta Dobbins of Waynesboro, Va. Charles D. Anderson Charles D. Anderson, 86, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Monsignor Francis Smyer officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Anderson was born in Chicago and moved to Amarillo in 1935. He retired in the 1980s after 42 years as an accountant with Cornell and Co. He was a partner in the firm. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Certified Public Accountant Association. He married Evelyn Katherine Anderson in 1933 at Chicago. She preceded him in death in 1997. Survivors include four daughters, Rita Walker of Amarillo, Loretta Walsh of Spring, Charolotte Cottingham of Montgomery and Dorothy Windish of Newark, Del.; a sister, Marion McClure of Covina, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Gregoria Renteria STANTON, Calif. - Gregoria Renteria, 76, a former Amarillo resident, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Graveside prayer service will be in Llano Cemetery. Cremation was in California. Mrs. Renteria was born and raised in Canadian, Texas. She married Vincent Renteria in 1940 and they lived in Amarillo. She moved to California in 1956. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Petra Josephine Renteria. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Daniel Renteria of Huntington Beach and Vince Renteria of Indianapolis, Ind.; four daughters, Patricia Pineda of San Gabriel, Teresa Seidel of Riverside, Gloria Long and Dolores Rinaldi, both of Garden Grove; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Chapel with Chris Swinford officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Bobo was born in Cunningham, Kan. She moved to Causey in the early 1920s with her family. They later moved to Portales, where she attended school. She had lived in and around the Portales area since that time. For many years she was active in the Portales Senior Citizens. She married Albert C. Bobo in 1930 at Roswell. He died in 1979. Survivors include a son, Gaylon Bobo of Portales; a daughter, Wynema Davidson of Portales; a granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren. Blanche South PORTALES, N.M. - Blanche South, 96, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with Dr. Philip Fike officiating. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. South was born in Charleston, Ark. and was raised in Oklahoma near Purcell. She married Murry South in 1920 at Criner, Okla. They moved to Portales in 1922. She was active in the First Baptist Church working with the WMU, the Cradle Roll, and teaching children. Her husband, Murry, died in 1985. Survivors include three daughters, Marie Creamer and Irene Ribble, both of Portales, and Betty Wright of Roswell; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sellars was born in Range, Okla. She graduated from Texhoma High School and from Panhandle A&M College at Goodwell, Okla. She married Marcus E. Sellars in 1932 and they lived in and operated a business at Texhoma. They moved to Clovis in 1952 where they built and ran the Pioneer Inn for 30 years. Mr. Sellars died in 1993. Mrs. Sellars was a member of First United Methodist Church at Clovis, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 476 of Texhoma and the Daughter of the Nile. Survivors include two sisters, Erlene Littlefield of Plains, Kan., and Elsie Tate of Vallejo, Calif.; and a brother, Jack Hale of Loveland, Colo. Estes HOLLIS, Okla. - Raymond H. Estes, 92, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. James Densman and the Rev. Hoyt Ellis officiating. Burial will be in the Dodson Cemetery by Stewart Funeral Service. Mr. Estes was born in Indian Territory and lived most of his life on a farm in the Sandy community near Hollis. He graduated from high school at Hollis. Mr. Estes served on the school board at Arnett. He had been a member of the Hope, Antioch and, for the last several years, the First Baptist Church at Hollis, where he was a deacon. He was responsible for the Monday singing at two nursing homes for many years. Survivors include his wife, Eunice; a son, R.D. Estes of Amarillo; a daughter, Rita Duncan of Sterling, Okla.; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Area Margrie M. Bonnell PAMPA - Margrie M. She was active in the First Baptist Church where she taught many classes for children and was a member of the WMU. She was a charter member of the Women's Federated Study Club. She married Hobart Franklin McManigal in 1928, and they moved to the Happy community. Survivors include two daughters, Doris Jean Rowell of Tulia and Anne McManigal of Los Angeles; a son, Hobart Frank McManigal Jr. of Vernon; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She had lived in Gruver since 1947 where she had been a telephone operator for eight years, was an accountant and secretary for the Gruver Lumber Co. for nine years and until recently owned and operated rental properties. She was a member of Primitive Baptist Church at Perryton. Survivors include a son, LeRoy States of Naples, Italy; a daughter, Anita "Mel" Albright of Balko, Okla.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His cremains will be buried with his wife at the time of her death. Mr. Vaughan was born in Rolla, Mo., and raised in Lazbuddie. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Belgium and France. He returned to Lazbuddie and had lived there for 53 years. He married Beatrice Martin in Indianapolis, Ind. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dean Vaughan. Perrilla Brewster PADUCAH - Perrilla "Pud" Brewster, 82, of Dumont, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ed Peckham, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumont Cemetery in Dumont by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Brewster was born in Dumont. She retired in 1992 after 30 years as postmistress of the Dumont Post Office. She also owned the Brewster General Store since 1970 and was Dumont weather reporter for more than 30 years. Mrs. Brewster was a member of First United Methodist Church in Paducah, Dumont Homecoming Committee and the U.S. Postmasters Association. She married Aubrey Brewster in 1935. He died in 1939. He married Mary Helen Wilson in 1940 at Blossom. Mrs. Ward was born in Chico and moved to Tulia in 1915 from Lockney. As a young girl, she moved to Swisher County, living near Kress and then in the Valley View area. She had lived in Lithia for the past eight years. She was a homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church. She married Eric Ward in 1939 at Tulia. He died in 1977. Survivors include a daughter, Margie West of Brandon, Fla.; a brother, Albert Hanna of Abilene; and a grandson. The family will be available for visitation from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. They request memorials be to the Tulia Cemetery Association.
