Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Garcia was born in Duran. She and her family moved to Portales in 1962 from the Encino area. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Crucillo and other societies. She married Juan Garcia in 1936 at Encino. He died in 1991. She also was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Garcia, in 1981; and by a daughter, Jane Salas, in 1997. Survivors include three sons, Lorenzo Garcia of Encino, Andy Garcia of Roswell and Rudy Garcia of Portales; six daughters, Josie Garcia, Sady Tapia, Aurora Flores, Priscilla Archibeque and Dorothy Montoya, all of Portales, and Mabel Urioste of Ponca City, Okla.; a brother, Manuel Madril of Duran; a sister, Beatrice Madril of Vaughn; 46 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; and three greatgreat-grandchildren. Jean H. Turner PORTALES, N.M. - Jean H. Turner, 75, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Friday in Portales Cemetery with Marlin Poynor officiating. Arrangement were by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Turner was born in LaJunta, Colo. While living in Portales, she worked as a waitress at the Wagon Wheel Cafe. She married Etzel Turner in 1957 at Glendale, Ariz. He died in 1992. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. P.F. Turner of Portales; and a friend, Ron Davis of Clovis. Edwina Ikard Boyd LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Edwina Ikard Boyd, 102, died Thursday, March 26, 1998. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at Pampa, Texas, by the Rev. John Valdez, pastor. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Pampa by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Boyd was born in Minca, Okla. She attended Oklahoma State College. She married Lynn Boyd, who twice had been mayor of Pampa. He preceded her in death. She was a Catholic and organized the church choir in 1927. She was appointed to the first Diocesan Council of Women in 1936 and was elected secretary. She organized the local Parent Teachers Association and a soup kitchen. She volunteered for 26 years with the Red Cross and was a Girl Scout leader. Survivors include a sister, Jane Bird of Tucson, Ariz. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Sunday until service time. Margarita Estella Padilla CLAYTON, N.M. - Margarita Estella Padilla, 79, died Thursday, March 26, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Seventh-day Adventist Church with the Rev. Wilfred Carrasco, pastor of the Clayton House of Prayer, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors. Mrs. Padilla was born in Mosquero. She married Roberto N. Padilla in 1940 at Mosquero. They lived on their ranch at Clapham for several years before moving to Clayton. They continued to ranch in Clapham. Mrs. Padilla was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; two daughters, Joann Padilla and Marcella Padilla; and two sons, Robert Padilla Jr. and Herman Padilla. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Gonzales and Josephine Padilla, both of Guymon, Okla., and Tina Lopez of Texline, Texas; four sons, Frank Padilla of Gruver, Texas, Jose Padilla of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Johnny Padilla of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Tony Padilla of Oklahoma City; a stepson, Albino Padilla of Riverside, Calif.; 28 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-greatgrandson. Debra Rae Hall CLOVIS, N.M. - Debra Rae Hall, 44, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. (EST) Tuesday in St. John Lutheran Church in Aurora, Ind., with the Rev. Daniel Kacer officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Aurora by Rullman Funeral Home of Aurora. Clovis arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Hall was born in Batesville, Ind. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1972 and received her bachelor of science degree from Indiana University in 1976. She married Harold William Hall II in 1977 at Aurora. Mrs. Hall was a physical education teacher and coach at Switzerland County High School in Vevay, Ind., for several years before moving to Germany. She then taught physical education at Bitburg Elementary School at Bitburg Air Force Base in Germany. In 1991, they moved to Clovis, where Mrs. Hall became the family day-care coordinator at Cannon Air Force Base. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Lauren Hall of the home; a son, Ryan Hall of the home; her father, Raymond Kuhlmeier of Aurora; a sister, Sally Beckley of Dillsboro, Ind.; and a brother, John Raymond Kuhlmeier of Baton Rouge, La. Elsewhere James Frederick Garner EL PASO - James Frederick Garner, 66, a former Amarillo resident, died Friday, March 20, 1998. There were no services. Arrangements were by Harding-OrrMcDaniel Funeral Home. Mr. Garner was born in Amarillo. After graduating in 1949 as valedictorian, senior class president and class favorite at Amarillo High School, he went to Yale University, where he received his bachelor of arts degree with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1953. He played football while he attended Yale. He was selected as a Rhodes Scholar. He then attended Merton College at Oxford University and earned another bachelor of arts in 1955. After returning to the states, Mr. Garner attended the University of Texas law school and earned his law degree in 1958. During high school, Mr. Garner was named the 1949 Texas Outstanding High School Football Player by the Texas Sportswriters Association and received All-American honors. In 1975, he was inducted into the Amarillo High School Sandie Hall of Fame. In 1986, he was named to the Dallas Morning News AllTime Texas High School Football Team. Mr. Garner was a member of the American Association of Rhodes Scholars, the El Paso and American bar associations and the State Bar of Texas. For many years, he was active and served as an officer in Kiwanis International. Mr. Garner was a retired shareholder in the El Paso law firm of Kemp, Smith, Duncan & Hammond. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia "Tita" Gillett Garner. Survivors include three daughters, Robin Garner Langford and Ruth Garner Marshall, both of El Paso, and Susan Garner Treen of Corpus Christi; a brother, Robert S. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sharon O'Quinn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Roberson was born and raised in Petersburg and graduated from Petersburg High School. He was a pilot for the Army Air Corps, flying B-17s during World War II. When he was discharged from the Army, he started farming in the Petersburg area. Mr. Roberson was a county commissioner in Precinct 2 in Hale County for 28 years. He was a past president of the Association of County Judges and the Commissioners of Texas. He was a director of First State Bank in Petersburg and a director of the Federal Land Bank Association for 28 years. He was a member of the Petersburg Lions Club and the Petersburg Masonic Lodge. He also was a member of the Petersburg First United Methodist Church. He married Virginia Sue Roberson in 1946 at Petersburg. She died in 1968. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Ann Roberson of New York City; a son, Douglas Roberson of Austin; a brother, Kenneth Alwyn Roberson of Petersburg; and a sister, Joan Douglas of Lubbock. He died in 1932. She was a graduate of Amarillo College and a charter member of Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Vivian Jones and Beth Qualls, both of Amarillo; a grandson; a great-grandson; and two great-great-granddaughters. The family requests memorials be to Mary Ellen & Harvester Church youth fund. Oscar Whitby DALHART - Oscar "Kay" Whitby, 82, died Friday, March 27, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Christian Church with Ray M. Guy, minister of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home. Mr. Whitby was born in Strawn. He moved to Dalhart with his family in 1921 from Oklahoma City. He graduated from Dalhart High School in 1933 and attended Amarillo College. He retired from the Rock Island Railroad in 1977 after working 37 years as a conductor. He obtained his real estate broker's license in 1952 and was active with the firm of Golden Heritage Real Estate. Mr. Whitby was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge and a charter member of the XIT Rangers Association. He served on the Dalhart Theater Board and acted in several theater productions. He was a member of the Friends of the Library and assisted in the planning and executing of the library building at its new location. He served on the board of the DallamHartley Historical Museum as well as the Dallam-Hartley Child Development Center. He was a longtime member of First Christian Church. Mr. Whitby married Coye McClendon in 1936 at Dalhart. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mike Whitby of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter, Pam Strong of Dalhart; two sisters, Ruth Adelle Olney of Niland, Calif., and Helen Aline Parks of Snyder; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Letha Lamkin Burleson CHANNING - Letha Lamkin Burleson, 84, died Thursday, March 26, 1998. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Dalhart. Mrs. Burleson was born in Ochiltree County and had lived in Channing since 1951. She served as the Hartley County Treasurer from 1950 to 1962. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Edward Lamkin, in 1949; husband, Rufus C. "Jack" Burleson, in 1981; and two sons, Charles Eugene Lamkin in 1994 and Bob Lamkin in October. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara A. Weldon, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Mitchell was born in Plainview. He worked in the building trade. As a young man, he was a member of the crew that constructed the Hoover Dam in Nevada. During World War II, he served as a White House guard under Franklin D. Roosevelt. Mr. Mitchell was a volunteer fireman and later served in the police force at Plainview. He was a Baptist. He married Velma Loyd in 1938 at Vega. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Earline Moore and Barbara Bass, both of Lubbock, and Pat Parrish of Crosbyton; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Anna Lee Black PAMPA - Anna Lee Black, 78, died Thursday, March, 26, 1998. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Teeter officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St., in Amarillo. Mrs. Black was born in Cordell, Okla., and had lived in Pampa since 1960. She was a secretary and song leader for Harrah United Methodist Church before combining with St. Paul United Methodist Church. She married Earl Black in 1941 at Clinton, Okla. Mrs. Black was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Earlene Yates of Amarillo; and a granddaughter. She also was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers Association. She married Raleigh Strother in 1942 at Lanham. She was preceded in death by a son, Mac B. Strother, in February. Mr. Edwards was born in Lamesa. He was a former resident of Silverton and had been a resident of Weatherford for the last 27 years. He retired in 1995 after many years as a salesperson with Lawn and Garden. He was a member of South Main Church of Christ, the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Edward was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Lexington. He joined the Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. He married Shirley Jean "Janicke" Davidson in 1958 after his divorce from his first wife. In 1983, he moved to Texas. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Iris Ann Moore, in 1990. He attended Forgan schools until going to work as a barber in Beaver. He married Bernita Custer in 1943 at Forgan. They made their home in Balko. In 1944, Mr. Brower began working for Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America, where he worked as an engineer until retiring in 1983. He was a member of First Christian Church of Perryton. Mr. Clubb was born in Wellington, Texas. He graduated from Wellington High School with the class of 1964. He married Mary Katherine Connor in 1965 at Quail, Texas. They lived in Hedley, Texas, where they were involved in cotton farming for many years before moving to Spearman, Texas, in 1986. In 1989, they made their home in Guymon, where Mr. Clubb was a fieldsman for Collingwood Grain. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Debbie Martin of Guymon and Michelle Martinez of Goodwell; a son, Billy Gene Clubb Jr. of Plains, Kan.; his mother, Betty Stephens of Midwest City; four sisters, Wanda Deen of Lelia Lake, Texas, Patsy Clubb and Kim Baskey Field, both of Oklahoma City, and Dyna Lucas of Florida; three brothers, Eddie Wayne Clubb and Jimmy Ray Clubb, both of Norman, and Todd McGee of Oklahoma City; and four grandchildren. A Bill Clubb memorial has been established for the Oklahoma Transplant Institution. Memorials will be accepted at Henson-Novak Funeral Home, Box 1306, Guymon, Okla. 73942. Canyon Arthur M. Roberts Lorraine Penick Roberts Arthur M. Roberts, 83, and Lorraine Penick Roberts, 85, both of Canyon, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, near Abilene. Joint services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church of Canyon with the Rev. Richard Bales, pastor, and the Rev. Kevin Deckard, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts were married in 1940 at Liberal, Kan. They had lived in Canyon since 1946. They were members of First United Methodist Church. Mr. Roberts was born in Gatesville. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock for two years. He was a self-employed welder in Canyon for more than 30 years. He was a Navy veteran and a member of the Canyon Lions Club. Mrs. Roberts was born in Madison, Ga. She graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon with a degree in education. She taught school in Tulia and Plainview. She also was a bookkeeper for the family business, Art Roberts Welding, in Canyon. Mr. Roberts' survivors include a sister, Ouida Henry of Amarillo; and two brothers, Glendon Roberts of Bandera and Bill Roberts of Amarillo. Mrs. Roberts' survivors include a sister, Marsene Ford of Amarillo. The family requests memorials be to First United Methodist Church of Canyon or a favorite charity.
