Ammons Ralph O. Ammons, 72, of Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park East Mausoleum with Keith Boutwell, chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Ammons was born in Haskell where he graduated from high school. He moved to Amarillo in 1968. For 30 years, he was a truck driver for DeWhite Cheek. He was a Protestant. He married Sandra Kafton in 1974 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Billy Ralph Ammons of Amarillo and Curtis Ammons of Stafford; a daughter, Wanda Marie Wimberly of Amarillo; three stepsons, Charles Edward Wimberly and John Wimberly, both of Amarillo, and Bob Wimberly of Lubbock; two stepdaughters, Kathy Spahr and Angela Elgers, both of Lubbock; a sister, Jean Stanley of Dalhart; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center. The body will be available for viewing this morning. Birdie Taylor Birdie Taylor, 90, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Grand Avenue Baptist Church, 904 N. Grand, with the Rev. Calvin Powell and the Rev. Allen Norris officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Taylor was born in Erath County. She moved to Amarillo in 1943 from Childress. She was a homemaker and member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. She married Ira Lee Taylor in 1937 at Hardeman County. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert F. Taylor, in 1997. Survivors include her husband; a stepdaughter, Adelle Jenson of Alamogordo, N.M.; a niece, Mary Warren of Amarillo; and a nephew, Aubrey Simpson of Amarillo. Raymond Lester Daugherty Raymond Lester "R.L." Daugherty, 82, of Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Bolton Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Green, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Dodson Cemetery in Dodson. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce St. Mr. Daugherty was born in Duncan, Okla., and was an Army veteran of World War II. He lived in Dodson and worked as a butcher for 12 years. In 1957, he moved to Amarillo. Mr. Daugherty retired after 26 years as a security guard for Pantex. He was a member of Bolton Street Baptist Church and a 50-year member of Wellington Masonic Lodge No. 763. He married Hattie Boren in 1994 at Amarillo. His first marriage was to Ruby Nell Batts in 1935 at Hollis, Okla. She died in 1991. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Ray Daugherty of Irving, Lee Boren of Arlington and Danny Daugherty, James Boren and John Boren, all of Amarillo; two daughters, Margaret Stewart and Linda Vance, both of Amarillo; a brother, Hershell Daugherty of Penryn, Calif.; a sister, Juree Meek of Penryn; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family will be at 7509 Progress Lane. Ray M. Hogan Ray M. Hogan, 90, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Bell Avenue Baptist Church, 5211 Bell Ave., with the Rev. In 1966, he moved to Amarillo from Borger. He retired from Chemical Express as a truck driver and as a millwright in the construction industry. He was a member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church and Carpenter's Union No. 1884 of Lubbock. He married Katherine Whitaker in 1959 at Gruver. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Maxine Langley, in 1966. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Justin Hogan of Abilene and Bob Hogan of Pampa; a brother, Henry Hogan of Denver; a sister, Mary Kimbrough of Rockport; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mary Frances Anderson Mary Frances Anderson, 75, of Collinsville, Okla., and a longtime Amarillo resident, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with the Rev. Dana Moore of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Anderson was born in Wheeler County and moved to Amarillo in 1966 from Dalhart. She retired in 1996 as a self-employed accountant. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. In May, she moved to Collinsville. She married Clifford "Andy" Anderson in 1966 at Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978, and by a son, David Richard, in 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Bagley of Collinsville and Stacy Morton of Amarillo; a brother, C.L. Jones of Dalhart; two sisters, Jewell Burns of Stinnett and Celia Harwell of Abilene; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family will be at 1405 B S. Jefferson. Entombment will be at Benton County Memorial Park Mausoleum by CallisonLough Funeral Service of Rogers. Mr. Larkin was born in Commerce, Okla. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Bentonville, an inspector at Emerson Electric and was a Army veteran. He moved to the area in 1967 from Southwest City, Mo. Survivors include his wife, Helen Irene Parker; five daughters, Paula Bailey of Bentonville, Karen Augustine of Barstow, Calif., Linda Brown of Cullman, Ala., Diane Pierce of Seymour, Mo., and Paulette Oehlert of Rogers, Ark.; a son, Randy Larkin Sr. of Jay, Okla.; three stepdaughters, Judy Bunch and Phyllis Landwehr, both of Bentonville, and Patti Lee Fini of Las Vegas; a stepson, Mike Holzkamper of Clarksville, Tenn.; three brothers, Ralph Junior Larkin of West Virginia, William A. Woodrow Wilson Adcock LUBBOCK - Woodrow Wilson Adcock, 85, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jimmy Nunn and the Rev. Marisue Smith officiating. Entombment will be in the Garden of Shepherd of Resthaven Mausoleum by Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock. Mr. Adcock was born in Haskell County. He graduated from Haskell High School in 1932 and from McMurry College with a bachelor of arts degree in 1936. In 1939, he received his B.D. degree from Southern Methodist University Perkins School of Theology. He was awarded his doctor of divinity by McMurry College in 1961. Mr. Adcock served as a captain in World War II in central Europe where he was a chaplain. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater ribbon. For two years, Mr. Adcock worked as president of the Youth Assembly in the Northwest Texas Conference. He was an United Methodist minister for 66 years, serving the Sagerton and O'Brien churches, the Howe circuit, Valley View, Whitewright, Vera, Hale Center, Snyder, Pampa, Amarillo and Brownfield, minister of evangelism at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock and interim minister at Seagraves and Stinnett. Mr. Adcock served as district superintendent of the Abilene District. In 1983, he was a representative of the Northwest Conference to the National Archives and History Center of the Methodist Church at Drew University in Madison, N.J. He was a member and twice president of the Lions Club. He married Grace Wylie in 1937 at Howe. Survivors include his wife; four children, Ruth Smith, Ann Fossler, Wood Adcock and Beth Ankrom; a brother, Grady Adcock; three sisters, Mildred Green, Evelyn Norris and Bertha Grissom; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Woodrow and Grace Adcock Scholarship Fund at McMurry University, Abilene, TX; or the Methodist Minister's Pension Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, Lubbock. David Houston Hudgins HOUSTON - David Houston Hudgins, 89, a former longtime Memphis resident, died recently in the Houston area. Graveside services were Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, in Waller Cemetery in Waller, Texas. Arrangements were by Claire Brothers Funeral Home in Houston. Mr. Hudgins was born in Uvalde and moved to Hall County in 1911. He lived in Hall County until four years ago when he moved to the Houston/Brookshire area. Mr. Hudgins was a rancher, farmer and cattle buyer. For more than 80 years, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Memphis. He married Mary Lee Batson 65 years ago. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Don and Dee Hudgins, both of Houston; a sister, Ann Hicks of Fort Worth; a brother, Dr. Nath Hudgins of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Methodist Church of Memphis. Area Wayne E. Brown PAMPA - Wayne E. Brown, 70, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor, and Dr. Jim Prock, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by CarmichaelWhatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Brown was born in Vici, Okla. He was a 1946 graduate of Follett High School and graduated from Amarillo College and West Texas State University. In 1993, he retired after 40 years as owner of Wayne E. Brown CPA Services. Mr. Brown was a third-degree Mason, a member of Top O'Texas Masonic Lodge No. 1381 AF&AM, and was on the board of directors of the Pampa Rodeo Association and the Pampa Meals on Wheels. He was a former member of Pampa Rotary Club and the Pampa Jaycees. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School and was active in youth work. He married Dell J. Barton in 1949 at Follett. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Barbara Grisham of Houston and Roberta Hendricks of Pampa; a brother, Lynn Brown of Morrison, Okla.; and a granddaughter. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, Baylor University or a favorite charity. Virginia Croley PERRYTON - Virginia Croley, 74, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Durham officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Mrs. Croley was born in DeKalb and moved to Perryton in 1958 from Lovington, N.M. She was a homemaker and member of the Baptist church. She married Charles Croley in 1940 at Omaha. She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Wade Croley. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Charles Croley III and Billy Mack Croley, both of Perryton; two daughters, Wilma Prater of Borger and Sharon Dione Brown of Beaver, Okla.; a sister, Alta France of Mount Pleasant; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Make A Wish Foundation or a favorite charity. Jimmy Don England DUMAS - Jimmy Don England, 20, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Westlawn Cemetery with Richard Kasko, minister of Fritch Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. England was a native of Borger where he lived most of his life. He was a former student at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Ray and Diana England of Fritch; his mother, Nadine; four half-brothers, Wayne, Mike, Bob and Brice; two halfsisters, Rebeca and Patricia; two stepsisters, Teresa and Suzanne; and his grandmother, Ruby England of Borger. Arnold Edward Miller Jr. WHEELER - Arnold Edward "Red" Miller Jr., 71, of Howardwick, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church in Allison with the Rev. Jim Powell, pastor of First Baptist Church in Howardwick, the Rev. Mike Dyer of Sayre, Okla., and the Rev. Bob Meller, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Zybach Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Miller was born in Joliet, Ill., and served in the Navy during World War II. He was employed as a cook at Boys Ranch and Wheeler Care Center. In 1980, Mr. Miller moved to Wheeler and then moved to Howardwick in 1992. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church of Howardwick. Survivors include his wife, Frankie; two daughters, Peggy Murphy of Gorman and Wanda Miller of Tyler; a sister, Marilyn Ensign of Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Ted Polk of Albuquerque, N.M., and Thomas Glen Polk of Cheyenne, Okla.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Jerry Manuel WELLINGTON - Jerry Manuel, 57, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Adams, pastor, and the Rev. Jesse Dea, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Quanah, officiating. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Manuel was born in Wellington and began school in Quail. He returned to Wellington in 1948 where he graduated from high school in 1959. During the Vietnam War, he served in the Army with the military police. Mr. Manuel received his bachelor of arts degree from Lubbock Christian University and was a policeman in Lubbock for three years. In 1975, he returned to Wellington where he was employed for 21 years by Greenbelt Electric Co-op as staking technician. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He married Dianna Hitch in 1978 at Throckmorton. Survivors include his wife; a son, Marty Manuel of Lubbock; three daughters, Casey Manuel of Wellington, Debbie Guajardo of Castorville and Leesa McMahon of Warren, Okla.; his mother, Judy Manuel of Wellington; and five grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, the American Heart Association or the Cancer Society.
