Cremation and arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hinton was born in New York City. She moved to Pampa after World War II. She lived in Carson County for 48 years and returned to Pampa in 1997. Mrs. Hinton was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and served as chairperson of the United Thank Offering. She was a member of the Venado Blanco Club at White Deer. She married Paul Hinton in 1945 at Charleston, S.C. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Paulette Gentry of Valrico, Fla.; a son, Douglas Hinton of Wotton Under Edge, England; and a grandson. Gwendolyn Walker MEMPHIS - Gwendolyn Walker, 91, died Thursday, March 19, 1998, in Seattle. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fairview Cemetery by Spicer Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Unity Church in Amarillo with Karen Lindzig of Seattle officiating. Cremation was by Butterworth Funeral Home of Seattle. Mrs. Walker was born in Revia, Okla. She moved to Seattle in 1957 from Phillips, where her husband, Chesty Walker, coached at Phillips schools. She was a homemaker and a member of Unity Church in Seattle. Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her husband in 1968; and by a daughter, Detsy Gaek, in 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Penny Koch of Redondo Beach, Calif. A reception will be held after the services at 6702 Dreyfuss St. in Amarillo. Clinton Lloyd Peat MULESHOE - Clinton Lloyd Peat, 70, died Saturday, March 28, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brad Reeves, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery at Amarillo. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Peat was born in Dodge City, Kan. He married Doris Haller in 1947 at Dodge City. He moved to Muleshoe in 1984 from Hill City, Kan. He served with the Merchant Marine during World War II. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of First United Methodist Church of Muleshoe. Mr. Peat managed co-op elevators in southwest Kansas, eastern Colorado and the Texas Panhandle for more than 30 years. He was co-owner of the Heritage House Inn in Muleshoe. He married Evelyn Sowder in 1980 at Nebraska. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cheryl Nance of Amarillo, Charlotte Myers of Germantown, Tenn., and Beverley Springstead of Mount Pleasant; a brother, Fred Lewellan Peat of Manhattan, Kan.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Leta Faye O'Conner PLAINVIEW - Leta Faye O'Conner, 83, a former Plainview resident, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, in Lubbock. Mrs. O'Conner was born and raised in Lamar County but attended school in Gillham, Ark. She lived in Faught before moving to Plainview in 1954. She moved to Lubbock in 1993. Mrs. O'Conner was a member of First Baptist Church of Plainview. She married Jack O'Conner in 1967 at Seymour. He died in 1975. She also was preceded in death by a son, J.R. Holley. Survivors include five daughters, Delores Swilling of Irving, Goldia House of Lubbock, Dorothea Williams and Norma Holley, both of Shallowater, and Sue Hunt of Amarillo; a son, Billy Holley of Arizona; 26 grandchildren; 32 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Roaring Springs Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mrs. Webb was born in Dickens County. She married Grady Webb in 1935 at Dickens County. They lived in Los Angeles for 34 years before returning to Roaring Springs in 1970. Mr. Webb died in December. Mrs. Webb taught school in Roaring Springs and Afton for several years before moving to California. While in California, she worked for the Los Angeles Examiner. She also did porcelain and oil painting. She served as president of the California Porcelain Art Association for four years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and First Baptist Church. Survivors include a brother, John K. Green of Bakersfield, Calif.; three sisters, Nina Sinclair of Lubbock, Sue Maxey of Post and Nell Stevens of Gardnerville, Nev.; and a foster sister, Ala Hill of Bedford. The family will be at 115 E. 40th Ave. New Mexico Merle Watson CLOVIS, N.M. - Merle Watson, 86, died Sunday, March 29, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories Cemetery. Mr. Watson was born in Texola, Okla., and moved to Clovis in 1946. He had owned and operated Watson Motors since 1948. He served in the Army during World War II. He married Irene Robbins in 1936 at Fort Stockton, Texas. She died in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Turner of Clovis; two sons, Raymond Watson and Tom Watson, both of Clovis; two brothers, Eddie Watson of Clovis and O.P. Bernice Booth PORTALES, N.M. - Bernice "Bea" Booth, 82, died Saturday, March 28, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Third & Kilgore Church of Christ with Dan Rouse, John Booth Jr. and Tim Brumfield officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Booth was born in Wheeler County, Texas. Her family homesteaded to Indee in Quay County when she was a girl. She attended Eastern New Mexico Junior College at Portales in 1934. She graduated from nurses training at Northwest Texas Hospital at Amarillo in 1939. She married John C. Booth in 1940 at Clovis. Mrs. Booth was active in nursing for more than 50 years. She worked as a public health nurse at Roosevelt County during World War II. She worked as a nurse and nursing supervisor in Carlsbad and Clovis. She helped open Roosevelt General Hospital in 1950 at Portales, where she was night supervisor. She did office nursing at Artesia and Clovis and in several different doctor's offices at Portales. Mrs. Booth worked with her husband at Booth Pharmacy until they sold it and retired in 1978. She then worked at Roosevelt Home Health Services as the first home health nurse in the county making home visits, day and night. She was a longtime volunteer for the Community Services Center and served on the board for Roosevelt County Coordinated Care. In 1984, Mrs. Booth assumed a major role in training senior companions and served a number of years as supervisor of that program. For many years, she was a volunteer nurse for the Camp Fire Girls at Pine Lodge during summer camps and served on the Camp Fire Council. She was chosen Woman of the Year in 1979 by Beta Sigma Phi. She also received the Governor's award as an Outstanding New Mexico Woman in 1989. Survivors include her husband; a son, John C. Booth Jr. of Moriarty; a daughter, Jeanne Ross of Odessa; two brothers, Clinton Chandler of Albuquerque and Garvin Chandler of Portales; and six grandchildren. Bob C. Holt PORTALES, N.M. - Bob C. Holt, 75, died Saturday, March 28, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in University Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Smith and the Rev. Jim Wilkerson officiating. Burial will be Friday in Shreveport, La. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Holt was born in Kosciusko, Miss. He had lived in Albuquerque from 1959 until 1985. He was employed at Sandia Laboratory for 31 years. In 1985, following his retirement, he moved to Portales. He was a member and a deacon of University Baptist Church. He also was a Sunday school superintendent, a teacher and a training union director. Mr. Holt married Frances M. Johnson in 1946 at Shreveport. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bobby C. Holt Jr. of Albuquerque, Tim Holt of Edgewood and Mike Holt of Portales; a daughter, Cindy Johnston Frederick of Portales; a brother, Dean Holt of Bossier City, La.; and nine grandchildren. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Lucero was born in Anton Chico, where he lived until 1942 when he moved with his family to Clovis. He worked for Santa Fe Railway. In 1945, he moved to Pueblo, Colo., where he worked at a ordnance depot. He later migrated to Texas to work on farms. In 1958, he moved to Portales and did farm work at Morton for many years. He retired in 1974. He was a member of the Portales Senior Citizens Association. Mr. Lucero married Aurora Lucero in 1935 at Anton Chico. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joe Lucero of Quincy, Ill., Adolph Lucero of Guymon, Okla., and David Lucero of Portales; three daughters, Helen Quintana of Levelland, Texas, and Elisa Montoya and Mary Ann Pena, both of Portales; 27 grandchildren; and 36 greatgrandchildren. Oklahoma Lenora Elizabeth Appel SHATTUCK, Okla. - Lenora Elizabeth Koch Appel, 81, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, in Oklahoma City. Mrs. Appel was born in Lipscomb and attended the country school system there. She helped on the family farm until moving to San Francisco, where she worked at a florist / greenhouse. She also was a homemaker. She married Johnnie Appel in 1941 at Lipscomb. She returned to Lipscomb until her husband returned from World War II. In 1950, they moved to Ellis County. Mrs. Appel was preceded in death by her husband. Mr. Cooper was born in Danville, Ala., and had lived in Beaver County for 40 years. He was an Army veteran. He was a retired plant supervisor for Warren Petroleum. He attended Forgan United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion and the Sagumo Prison Guard Association. He was a past member of the Lions Club. Mr. Cooper married Wanda Faye Maxwell in 1953 at Artesia, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Terry of Forgan and Michael of Cheyenne; two daughters, Cheryl Steers and Teryl Leisher, both of Turpin; a sister, Marlene Mitchell of Pascagoula, Miss.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Morris Beegle BEAVER, Okla. - Morris Thomas Beegle, 64, died Monday, March 30, 1998, in Loveland, Colo. Memorial services are pending. Cremation arrangements were by KibbeyFishburn Funeral Home. Mr. Beegle was born in Beaver and had lived in the Loveland area since 1966. He was a graduate of Oklahoma University and was involved in accounting and real estate until retiring. He married Carol McAdams in 1955 at Beaver. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. He had achieved a life master rating in bridge. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Brad Beegle of Carmel, Calif., Dave Beegle of Loveland and Morris Beegle of Fort Collins; a sister, Dorothy Baggerly of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Leukemia Society.
