Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Adrian First Baptist Church with the Revs. Melvin Smith, pastor, and Bob Miller, pastor of South Georgia Baptist Church in Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Vega Memorial Park Cemetery by Vega Funeral Home. Mrs. Brown was born in Vernon and had lived in Adrian for 35 years. She graduated from Texas Tech and received a master's degree in education from West Texas State University. She was a teacher at Adrian High School, the 4-H adviser and a member of and organist at First Baptist Church. She was also a homemaker. She married Davis Brown in 1964. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Barry Brown of New York and Kile Brown of Dallas; a daughter, Karen Brown of College Station; her mother, Eula Vick of Dumas; two brothers, Norman Kent Vick of Denver and Gordon Dale Vick of Midland; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Vega Cemetery, P.O. Box 496, Vega, TX 79092. Evelyn King WELLINGTON - Evelyn King, 74, died Saturday, May 29, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Ulrey, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Perryton, and Johnny Henard officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. King was born in Wellington, graduated from Wellington High School in 1941 and from business college in Dallas. She was a secretary and bookkeeper and a member and past president of the 1924 Study Club, served as chairperson of the first Collingsworth County History Book Committee and taught at the Collingsworth County Community Action Center. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was the historian, a Sunday school teacher, former church secretary, and was active in the Esther Circle and United Methodist Women, where she served as president. She married J.B. King in 1948 at Wellington. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Jacqueline Arnold of Amarillo and Marcia Henard of Wellington; and two grandchildren. New Mexico Emma Newton CLOVIS, N.M. - Emma Sena Newton died Sunday, May 30, 1999. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Lawn Haven Memorial Garden with the Rev. Carlos Chavez officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Newton was born in Clovis and was a lifetime resident. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include a daughter, Frances Cochran of Clovis; a son, E.L. Sena of Clovis; three sisters, Lucille Welch, Florence Garcia and Maggie Casaus, all of Clovis; a brother, Raymond Sena of Clovis; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 2217 Hammond. Donna M. Robinson CLOVIS, N.M. - Donna M. Robinson, 56, a longtime Carlsbad resident, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, in Lubbock, Texas. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Mission Garden of Memories. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Ms. Robinson was born in El Paso, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Carlsbad until moving to Clovis last year. She had done clerical and secretarial work and also had been a waitress. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Carlsbad. Survivors include Guy Robinson of Clovis; and two cousins, Melanie Kelm of Farwell, Texas, and Cynda Newberry of Artesia. Mary Anne Hopkins CLOVIS, N.M. - Mary Anne Ellison Hopkins died Saturday, May 29, 1999, in Farwell, Texas. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Hawkins and Dr. Thomas Martin officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hopkins was born in Atkins, Ark., and had been a resident of Clovis for more than 60 years. She was a registered nurse. She married Jack Hopkins in 1937 at Little Rock, Ark. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and Central Baptist Church, where she sang in the Glory Choir. Survivors include her husband; and a niece and nephew. Philip Fraze PORTALES, N.M. - Philip Fraze, 94, died Saturday, May 29, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery. Mr. Fraze was born in Arkansas. He married Lois Pruett in 1929. They farmed in the Dora area until 1972, when they moved to Portales. He was active for many years in Long's Baptist Church and then at Dora Baptist Church. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portales. Mr. Fraze was preceded in death by his wife in January; and by a son, Donald Fraze, in 1994. Survivors include three sisters, Ruth Adams of Portales, Sybil Victor of Dora and Mamie Kennedy of Portales; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Leonard Hood CARLSBAD, N.M. - Leonard Hood, 74, a former resident of Follett, Texas, died Saturday, May 29, 1999. No services are planned. Arrangements are by Denton-Funchess Funeral Home. Mr. Hood was born in Beaver County, Okla., and grew up in Darrouzett, Texas, where he graduated from high school. He entered the Navy during World War II. After the war, he earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in business administration from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. He was a missile-building instructor in the civil service until retiring in 1970. He then became a barber and owned a shop in Follett from 1970 to 1980. He moved to Carlsbad in 1980 and managed a security network at Eddy Potash until 1993. Mr. Hood married Nancy Thomas in 1963 at Canyon. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robin Hood of Shamrock, Texas, Dion Hood of Potosi, Mo., and Tracy Hood of Carlsbad; a daughter, Jody Whitten of Amarillo; a brother, Kenneth Hood of Amarillo; two sisters, Berdine Nasland of Chico, Calif., and Genevive Rupprecht of Follett; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Oklahoma William George McKinley II HOOKER, Okla. - William George "Bill" McKinley II, 66, died Sunday, May 30, 1999. Military graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Hooker Cemetery with the Fort Sill Funeral Honors Team and Chaplain. Arrangements are by Robert Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. McKinley was born in St. John, Kan. He was raised in the St. John area and attended school there. He joined the Army and served two tours of duty in the Korean War and one tour in the Vietnam War. He also served in Germany; the Netherlands; Okinawa, Japan; Washington, Oklahoma and Texas. He earned a bachelor's degree at Oklahoma State University and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Oklahoma. He also attended the Army's Command and General Staff College. He retired from the Army as a master sergeant in 1978 and moved to Hooker. Mr. McKinley was a certified teacher and licensed single-engine aircraft pilot. Survivors include his wife, Ruby; two sons, Willie McKinley of Lakin, Kan., and J.T. McKinley of Hooker; a daughter, Melody Logsdon of Clayton, N.M.; a stepson, William Duane Hicks of Hooker; two stepdaughters, Beatrice Thomas of Rush Springs and JoAnn Chamberlain of Fairview; a stepsister, Jeanine Blair of Albuquerque, N.M.; and 10 grandchildren. Nathan Gann GUYMON, Okla. - Nathan Gann, 61, died Saturday, May 29, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Don Chase, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mr. Gann was born in Sulligent, Ala. He moved to Boise City in 1939 and graduated from Boise City High School in 1955. He served in the Air Force. He married Alice L. Gore in 1959 and they moved to Guymon in 1967. He worked for Texas County District II. He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion in Hooker. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Boise City. Survivors include his wife; his mother, Pearl Gann of Boise City; two sons, Brad Gann of Monument, Colo., and Roger Gann of Oklahoma City; a brother, Kenneth Gann of Nacogdoches, Texas; and four grandchildren. He married Iva Mae Lackey in 1929 at Portales, N.M. She died in 1990. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Morton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. He was a heavy-machine operator for the city of Morton and Cochran County. Survivors include four sons, C.E. Stevens of Cranfills Gap, Kenneth Burke of Morton, Dewayne Burke of Sapulpa and Penn Tom Burke of Gainesville; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Charles William Ortega Charles William "Chuck" Ortega, 37, formerly of Amarillo, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, in Dallas. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Monsignor Harold Waldow. Mr. Ortega was born in Amarillo. He graduated from Palo Duro High School and attended Texas Tech University and Oklahoma City University. He was a hotel clerk and a Catholic. Survivors include his parents, Salvadore and Annie Ortega of Amarillo; four sisters, Walcaie Zuber, Peggy Hawkins and Julie Ortega, all of Amarillo, and Tonia Palmer of Moore, Okla.; a brother, Frank Ortega of Amarillo; and a grandfather, Henry Ramirez of Amarillo. Mr. Shoop was born in Twitty. He served in the Army during World War II. He moved to Amarillo in 1971 from California. He married Fermina Hernandez in 1983 at Vega. He retired from the Plumbers, Pipefitters and Sprinklerfitters Local Union No. 250 in California. He also was a member of this union. He was a member of the Automobile Association of Amarillo and Masonic Lodge No. 505 in California. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Don Shoop of California and Rafael Hernandez of Amarillo; four daughters, Sharon Kay O'Borny of California, Margarita Vargas of Acapulco, Mexico, and Alma Farr and Maria Hernandez, both of Amarillo; a brother, L. Powers Mary E. Morris Powers, 83, of Amarillo, died Sunday, May 30, 1999. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Roger Hubbard officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Powers was born in Hillsboro and moved to Amarillo in 1952. She and her husband, Bob Morris, opened and operated Cummings Electrical Supply Co. until his death in 1969. She later married Ralph E. Powers. He died in 1990. She was a Past Matron of the A.E. Shirley Chapter No. 986 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had lived in Lake Tanglewood for 25 years and was a charter member of the Lake Tanglewood Community Church. Survivors include a son, Jimmy W. Jones of Amarillo; two sisters, Willa Price of New Braunfels and Mozelle Frizzell of Weatherford, Okla.; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Farley was born in Burlington Junction, Mo., and moved to Amarillo in 1941. She married Robert Franklin "Frank" Farley in 1942 at Amarillo. He died in 1961. She was a bookkeeper and office manager for Dr. William McCue from 1967 until her retirement in 1985. Survivors include three daughters, Donna McLaughlin of Pine Bluff, Ark., Karen Thomas of Canyon and Patty Henson of Amarillo; a son, Robert Farley of Amarillo; a sister, Wilma Thomas of Amarillo; a brother, Ivor Van AusDall of Burlington Junction; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Diann Pennington of Murphy, Suzanne Shields of Amarillo and Trudy Moore of Borger; eight grandchildren; and 13 grandchildren. Geraldine Barra Geraldine "Dean" Barra, 70, of Amarillo, died Sunday, May 30, 1999. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. today in St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She married Frank Barra in 1951 at Wilburton, Okla. She retired as a registered nurse in 1973. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Survivors include her husband; a son, Steven Mark Barra of Houston; two daughters, Victoria Adams of Amarillo and Lydia Harper of Boulder, Colo.; a brother, Orville Duncan of Colgate, Okla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Parthenia Cook-Harris Parthenia Cook-Harris, 52, a former resident of Amarillo, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes. Mrs. Cook-Harris was born in Shreveport, La. She lived in Marshall before moving to Amarillo. She grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Carver High School. In 1995, she moved to Colorado Springs. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors include a daughter, Jascha Hodge of Colorado Springs; two sons, Clarence Cook Jr. and Coyous Cook, both of Colorado Springs; a sister, Hattie Mae lee of Dallas; three brothers, Charles Anderson of Colorado Springs, Herman Anderson of Amarillo and Perry Anderson of Plainview; her stepfather, Danny Swain of Amarillo; and 15 grandchildren.
