Dodson LOVINGTON, N.M. - Roy E. Dodson, 96, formerly of Vigo Park, Texas, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel at Canyon, Texas, with the Rev. Jene Greer, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon. Mr. Dodson was born in Indian Territory. He worked in Beasley Oil Field east of Marlow, Okla. He married Dot I. Harper in 1922. They moved to Wayside, Texas, in 1934. In 1952, they moved to Vigo Park, where he bought and operated a grocery store and butane business. In 1993, they moved to Lovington. He had been a Methodist church member since 1938. He and his wife helped organize the Senior Citizens Association in Swisher County, Texas. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy E. Dodson Jr. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jack R. Dodson of Fort Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. William Alexander Miller Jr. CLOVIS, N.M. - William Alexander Miller Jr., 75, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Brad Rigney and Greg Martin officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Miller was born in Ada, Okla. He was raised in Clovis and the surrounding areas. He was a Navy veteran and had worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years, retiring in 1981. He married Mary Fulgham in 1947 at Clovis. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Faye Miller. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Leona Roberts, Donna Reid and Charlette "Charlie" Martin, all of Clovis; a son, William R. "Bill" Miller of Clovis; two brothers, Russell Miller of Farmington and Charlie Miller of Clovis; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will be at the home of Stacey and Charlie Martin, 1605 E. 21st in Clovis. Lillian Redman TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Lillian Redman, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home. Mrs. Redman was born in Clifton, Texas, and had been a longtime resident of Tucumcari. She traveled by covered wagon from Texas to Guadalupe County in 1915 where her family homesteaded. She attended school in Vaughn and moved to Tucumcari in 1923. She graduated from Tucumcari schools in 1930 and attended Wichita Business School. She moved to Clovis where she worked as a legal secretary. She returned to Tucumcari from California. She had worked in the Harvey House Restaurants in Kingman and Winslow, Ariz. She owned and operated a restaurant in Gallup before returning to Tucumcari in the late 1940s. She had been the chef at the Randall Hotel Restaurant and in 1958, she became the manager of the Blue Swallow Motel on east Tucumcari Boulevard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, in 1973. Survivors include three brothers, Bill Leigon of Truth or Consequences and Ralph Leigon of Las Vegas, Nev., and Barney Leigon of Carlsbad; and a sister, Lucille Schoonover of Liberal, Kan. The body will be available for viewing until service time on Thursday at Dunn Funeral Home. Jose V. Lucero CLOVIS, N.M. - Jose V. Lucero, 67, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community with the Rev. Daniel M. Balizan officiating. Burial with military honors by Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard will be in Sunset Terrace in Farwell, Texas. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Lucero was born in Tecolotito. For 21 years, he worked at the Wilson/Armor/Swift Meat Packing plant in Hereford, Texas. He moved to Clovis in 1985 and was of the Catholic faith. He married Perscilla Griego in 1951 at Littlefield. He was preceded in death by a son, Martin Lucero. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Bernie Lucero and Senovio Lucero, both of Clovis, Odie and Marty Lucero, both of Amarillo, and Kerry Lucero Hernandez of Eldorado, Kan.; three daughters, Margie Lucero of Wichita, Kan., and Loretta Chavira and Lisa Romero, both of Clovis; his mother, Julianna Lucero of Clovis; a brother, Benito L. Baco of Anton Chico; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Loretta Plunkett Aragon CLAYTON, N.M. - Loretta Plunkett Aragon, 53, of Kansas City, Kan., died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. Mrs. Aragon was born in Clayton and graduated from high school in Farley. She graduated from Draughon's Business School in Amarillo and then worked as an accountant in Casper, Wyo. She lived in Salt Lake City for a brief time before moving to Mountain Home, Idaho. She married Ernest J. Aragon in 1994 at Amarillo. They lived in Amarillo and Dalhart, Texas, before moving to Kansas City, Kan. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Melanie Wolfgang of Mountain Home; her mother and stepfather, Juanita and Bill Selders of Clayton; four sisters, Vernadell Stoneman of Dalhart, Cynthia Kerns of Bonner Springs, Kan., Yvonne Plunkett of Clayton and Delinda Bogue of Albuquerque; a brother, Arthur R. Plunkett II of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. Oklahoma Hazel Inez Doyle ERICK, Okla. - Hazel Inez Doyle, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Avery officiating. Burial will be in the Erick Cemetery. Mrs. Doyle was born and raised in Erick. She married Ray Doyle in 1942 at Mangum. They lived in Arkansas and western Oklahoma before moving to Borger, Texas, and later moving to Taylorsville, Ill. After the death of her husband, she moved to Erick. She also lived in Leedey, later moving to Spearman, Texas. She also was preceded in death by a daughter. Survivors include a daughter, Letha Stewart of Spearman; a son, Paul Doyle of Houston; a sister, Novella Mutchler of Elk City, Okla.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Dozier Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors of Lubbock. Mr. Massey was born in Shamrock and graduated from Samnorwood High School. He attended Clarendon Community College and Texas Tech University. A veteran of the Air Force, he served in the Philippines. From 1962 until 1963, Mr. Massey was employed by Smith Ford in Slaton and then was regional manager for Texas Industrial Services (Unifirst Corp.). He was a member of the Church of Christ and Lions International. He married Carleen Myers in 1962 at MacGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Penny Seaver of Lubbock; a son, Jim Massey Jr., of Dallas; his mother, Willie Mae Massey of Slaton; a brother, Bob Massey of Fort Worth; and a grandson. Hestand, 83, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church in Roscoe with the Rev. Truman Friday and the Rev. Keith Clifton officiating. Burial will be in Roscoe Cemetery by McCoy Funeral Home. Mr. Hestand was born in Van Zandt County and moved to Sweetwater from Roscoe in 1996. In 1980, he retired after 30 years as a forklift operator from Lone Star Industries. He was a Baptist. He married Mattie Campbell in 1933 at Snyder. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Hestand of Texline; three daughters, Dorothy Young of Sweetwater, Betty Nance of Yuma, Ariz., and Margaret Baker of Woodbridge, Va.; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Area Roy McLaury BORGER - Roy McLaury, 67, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Plainsman Room of the Fine Arts Building at Frank Phillips College at Borger. Arrangements were by Girdner Funeral Home of Abilene. Mr. McLaury was born in Dumont and had been a Borger resident for 41 years. He was a horseshoer in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles. He was a member of First Baptist Church at Stinnett. He was preceded in death by a son, Gale McLaury, in 1984. Ruby Marie Munsey Ashlock DALHART - Ruby Marie Munsey Ashlock, 90, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery with Ray M. Guy, minister of First Christian Church of Dalhart, officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home Inc. Mrs. Ashlock was born in Alex, Ark., and raised in Paden, Okla. She moved to Dalhart in the 1930s. She was a member of First Christian Church. She married G.C. Ashlock in 1933 at Tucumcari, N.M. He died in 1986. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Sonja Tooley. Survivors include two daughters, Norma Frey of Tulelake, Calif., and June Ossman of Canon City, Colo.; a brother, Earl Sands of Prague, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Byron Hamilton Murphy Jr. PERRYTON - Byron Hamilton Murphy Jr., 86, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Frank T. Springer officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Mr. Murphy was born in Ochiltree County where he was a lifelong resident. A member of the American agriculture movement, he went by tractor to Washington, D.C., in the 1979 tractorcade. Mr. Murphy was a farmer and a horseman. He was a Shriner and a 64-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He married Mary Emily Morris in 1939. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1996 and by a son, Byron Hamilton Murphy III. Survivors include a son, Jerry Murphy of Perryton; two sisters, Janice LaMaster of Perryton and Fairy Olmstead of Austin; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. W.D. Bill Purcell CHILDRESS - W.D Bill Purcell, 86, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mr. Purcell was born in Shores Creek community of pioneer parents. From 1946 until 1948, he was a member of a horseback square dance group, Ambassadors of Goodwill. He was a Mason and a member of the Elks Lodge. He married Bess Compton in 1930 at Hollis, Okla. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Billye Adams of Columbia, Mo., and Lynn Durham and Dana Morris, both of Childress; a son, Ben Purcell of Tucson; two sisters, Kathryn Hassell and Bennie Smith, both of Childress; 25 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Robert Earl Gilmore CHILDRESS - Robert Earl Gilmore, 50, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church where he was Sunday school superintendent. He was employed as an engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad. He married Rosemary Hughes in June 1998 at Childress. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Marnie Gilmore of Amarillo, Froncetta Gilmore of Dallas and Von Sims of Arlington; five sons, Brent Gilmore, Byron Gilmore and Matt Gilmore, all of Amarillo, Sigmond Gilmore of Dallas and Bryan Tucker of Mansfield; his mother, Vivian Gilmore; a sister, Charlesetta Evans of Phoenix; his grandmother, Ada B. Gilmore; and five grandchildren. Ealon Leslie PADUCAH - Ealon "Moose" Leslie, 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999. Mr. Leslie was born in Norrisco and was a lifelong resident of Cottle County. He was a mechanic and equipment operator for himself and Cottle County. Mr. Leslie then worked in maintenance for the Paducah Independent School District until his retirement. He attended the First Assembly of God and was a member of Cottle County Rod and Gun Club. He married Joyce Manley in 1946 at Dunlap. Survivors include his wife; a son, Rick Leslie of Paducah; two sisters, Yvonne Haggard of Arlington and Marlene Hill of Mansfield; and two grandsons, Patrick and Erick Leslie, both of Paducah. Gracie Fields DUMAS - Gracie Fields, 66, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999. Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Temple Baptist Church. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Fields was born in Cynthiana, Ky., and was a longtime Lubbock resident. She was employed as a coin laundry attendant. She moved to Dumas in 1992 where she was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She married Wilburn Fields in 1956 at Lawrenceburg, Ind. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Fields, in 1979. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kathy Lindsey of Lubbock and Rachel Hinsley of Dumas; three sons, Carl Fields of Lubbock, Johnny Fields of Dumas and Roy Fields of Grand Island, Neb.; a brother, Roy Debruler of Dayton, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. John Lawrence McKeon PAMPA - John Lawrence McKeon, 83, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel. Mr. McKeon was born in Utica, N.Y., and graduated from the University of Alabama. He was an Army veteran of World War II where he received the Purple Heart. Shortly after his marriage in California, he moved to Pampa. Mr. McKeon was a salesman and writer for the Pampa News from 1953 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, a volunteer with the Pampa Chamber of Commerce and active with Act I Theater and the Community Concert Association. He married Barbara Pigg in 1953 at California. She died in January. Survivors include a daughter, Jean Huckins of Pampa; a son, John "Joe" McKeon of Fort Worth; a sister, Josephine McKeon of Utica; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Williams was born in Carthage, Miss. He served as a medical supply sergeant in the Army during World War II. He moved to Amarillo in 1951 from Mississippi. He had worked as a barber in Amarillo for 38 years. He was a member of Olsen Park Seventh-day Adventist Church for many years and also of the Disabled American Veterans. He married Jewell Penn in 1950 in Oklahoma. She died in 1991. Raymond Lee Tipton Raymond Lee Tipton, 73, of Amarillo, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Washington Avenue Christian Church. He married Jessie Turner in 1963 at Clovis, N.M. Eleanor Mitchell Lewis Eleanor Mitchell Lewis, 92, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in St. Andrew's Episcopal Children's Chapel with the Rev. William D. Nix, rector, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery in Tullahoma, Tenn. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Lewis was born in Tullahoma and had lived in Amarillo since 1993. She attended school at Fitzgerald & Clark in Tullahoma and Columbia Institute where she was on the basketball team and served as accompanist for the school chorus. In 1927, she graduated from Randolph Macon Woman's College as an honor student and with a certificate of proficiency in theory and piano. From 1928 until 1933, Mrs. Lewis traveled through 24 states and Havana, Cuba. She lived in Charlotte, N.C., from 1933 until 1939 where she partnered with her husband in the Power and Anderson Dental Supply Co. In 1939, they returned to Tullahoma where they partnered in Builders Supply, Lewis Insurance, Snowhite Laundry & Cleaners, Tullahoma Building Co., Lewis Insurance and Real Estate and Lewis-Orr Real Estate. Mrs. Lewis was a civic leader and member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and First United Methodist Church. She was a life member of the Women's Circle and donated land for the education building. She served as PTA president in Tullahoma and was president of the THS PTA when the school opened. Mrs. Lewis was the founder of the Tullahoma Community Concerts and compiled and edited the Fine Arts Cookbook for the Fine Arts Association. She was a member of the Tullahoma Golf and Country Club, Lakewood Country Club and the Randolph Macon Alumnae Club of Nashville. She married Clifton Roscoe Lewis in 1928 at Tullahoma. Survivors include a daughter, Kay Kennedy of Amarillo; a son, Reg Lewis of Guilford, Conn.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Roxie Smith, in 1967. Survivors include a brother, John T. He graduated from Allen Military Academy in Bryan. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps in the American Theater Campaign. He received the Victory Medal. Mr. Meredith was a pilot. He was a member of the Paramount Terrace Christian Church, High Plains Aviation Association, Texas Panhandle Flight Instructors Association, and the Amarillo Genealogical Society. He married Marsh O'Dell in 1981 at Portales, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Michael Meredith of Fort Worth and Mark Alson Meredith of Amarillo; four daughters, Betty Lee Baker and Cheryl Deanne Jones, both of Arlington, Cynthia Raef of Corpus Christi and Sandra Warren of Pampa; three sisters, Thalen Flake and Peggy Hamilton, both of Amarillo, and Billie Grace Price of California; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rector Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Floyd, Jehovah's Witnesses elder, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East. Eliseo was born and raised in Amarillo. He was in the first grade at Eastridge Elementary. Survivors include his parents, Nora Marquez, Pedro Marquez III and Martin Lujan, all of Amarillo; two stepbrothers, Pete Marquez III and Thomas Marquez, both of Amarillo; two stepsisters, Christina Marquez and Patricia Marquez, both of Amarillo; and his grandparents, Guadalupe Ventura and Wally Ventura, both of Amarillo and Sarah Herrera and Pedro Marquez Sr., both of Odessa. The family will be at 1303 Bluebell. They suggest memorials be to the Make A Wish Foundation, 2324 Lakeview Dr., Amarillo, TX 79109.
