Mason BORGER - C.A. "Chuck" Mason, 87, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Cornerstone Church with Jim Loper, pastor, and the Rev. Calvin Newton, pastor of First Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Devotion in Highland Park Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Mason was born in Purdy, Mo., and had been a Borger resident since 1945. During World War II, he served in the Navy. For 31 years, he was a blender for Phillips Petroleum. He was a member of Cornerstone Church. He married Ada Bayless in 1937 at Nowata, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gene Mason of Borger and Thomas Wayne Mason of Olympia, Wash.; four daughters, Rosalie Overbay and Judith Parker, both of Borger, Joan Savage of Perryton and Shirley Jo Mason of Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren; and 25 greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 1200 Finger in Borger. Bertha Evelyn Mercer BORGER - Bertha Evelyn Mercer, 84, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor of Bible Baptist Church in Borger, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Beatitudes in Westlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Mercer was born in Konawa, Okla., and was a Borger resident for 54 years. She was a homemaker, a Baptist and active in Senior Citizen activities. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Woodrow Fowler in 1951, and Elmer Mercer in 1983. Survivors include a son, Jimmy Fowler of Borger; two sisters, Dorothy Murphey of Independence, Miss., and Belle Jackson of Konawa; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Eleanor Louise Bishop BORGER - Eleanor Louise Bishop, 92, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gregg Simmons, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Garden in Highland Park Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Bishop was born in Union Parrish, La., and had been a Borger resident since 1929. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bishop, in 1949, a son, Bill Bishop, and a daughter, Betty Hodges. Survivors include a son, James Bishop of West Monroe, La.; three daughters, Juanita Hodges of Amarillo, Shirley Bishop of West Monroe and Helen Jowers of Borger; a sister, Jessie Bryan of Bernice, La.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Elsene Sparks PERRYTON - Elsene Sparks, 74, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Bill Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Mrs. Sparks was born in Farmington, N.M., and was a lifelong resident of Perryton. She was a homemaker. Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Jones and Johnny Jones, both of Perryton, and Dale Biggs of Thorndale; a daughter, Emily Hargues of Perryton; four brothers, Pete Black of Durango, Colo., John Black and Jean Black, both of Aztec, N.M., and Jerald Black of Higgins; two sisters, Helen Blackwell and Lillie Black, both of Aztec; a stepson, Fred Sparks Jr. of Dallas; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Zola Mae Hill Talley PERRYTON - Zola Mae Hill Talley, 95, died Sunday, March 28, 1999. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Ochiltree Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Ulrey officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Mrs. Talley was born in Trenton and moved to Weatherford in 1997. She graduated from CTA, now Texas Woman's University, and was a school teacher, home extension agent secretary and homemaker. She was a Methodist and a lifetime member of the Perryton Eastern Star No. 161. She married Arch Talley in 1943. He died in 1973. Survivors include her sister, Margaret Petty of Denton; two nieces; and two nephews. Amarillo James Doyle Mitchell James Doyle Mitchell, 61, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Private family services will be held. Cremation and arrangements were by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage. Mr. Mitchell was born in Wellington and had lived in Amarillo for 50 years. He worked for AT&T as a building maintenance professional for 24 years. He married Loydene Duncan in 1957 in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Laura Greer, Shari Stanford, Rebecca Mauch, Petie Shelton, all of Amarillo and Terry Lamkin of Irving; and two sisters, Gerry Jordan and Mary Land, both of Amarillo. The family will be at 1015 W. 11th Ave., and request memorial donations be to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The body will not be available for viewing. Dr. Byron Ector Bowen Dr. Byron Ector Bowen, 72, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Palo Duro Masonic Lodge 1239, 1701 S. Polk St. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Dr. Bowen was born in Amarillo. He served as a military policeman with the Army while stationed in Korea and Japan. He received his doctorate of dental surgery from the University of TexasDental Branch at Houston. He then became a professor of dentistry and served as head of several departments at the University of Texas-Dental Branch at Houston where he taught for many years until retirement. He was a Master Mason with Palo Duro Masonic Lodge 1239. He was a Lutheran. Survivors include a son, Ben R. Duncan of Houston; two sisters, Hazel Holland and Lula Mae Vance, both of Amarillo; three brothers, Irish Harrell, Roger "Banjo" Holman and Archie Dunlap of Amarillo; and his two former wives, Beverly of Dallas and Edwina Miller of Houston. Joshua Nathan Williams Joshua Nathan Williams, infant son of Carl and Karen Williams, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Thomas P. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Texico Cemetery at Texico. Mr. McDaniel was born in Texico. He graduated from Texico High School. He was a retired farmer and a longtime member of the Central Christian Church. He helped support the Christian Children's Home of Portales. He married Ida Mae Mitchell in 1963 at Ennis, Texas. Survivors include his wife; and a sister, Alta Kimmons of Winston-Salem, N.C. The family requests memorials be to the Christian Children's Home of Portales. Modesto Baca CLOVIS, N.M. - Modesto Baca, 67, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in The Chapel with Nat Gomez, elder, and Hector Gomez, elder, officiating. Burial will be at Mission Gardens of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. He was born in Anton Chico and moved to Clovis in 1950. For 30 years, he owned and operated Baca Plumbing in Clovis. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, the Spanish congregation. He married Guadalupe "Lupe" Foster in 1952 at Hereford. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Rudy Baca of Santa Fe, Modesto Baca of Oklahoma City, Richard Baca of Clovis, Jerome Baca of Farmington and Gilbert Baca of San Antonio; a daughter, Carol Bruce of Clovis; a brother, Benito Baca of Clovis; a sister, Rayitos Pacheco of Vaughn; 10 grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. Mr. Gossett was born in Amarillo. He worked as a pumper for Amerada Hess for 12 years. He served in the Navy from 1969 to 1973 and was a Methodist. He married Bettye Ann Bruce in 1981 in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Amy Dulaney of Fort Stockton; a son, Scott Burton of Big Spring; two brothers, J.C. Gossett and Bud Gossett, both of Amarillo; and a granddaughter.
