Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Westlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Tarrell Trout, pastor of Fritch Assembly of God, and the Rev. Tommy Breznik, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Love by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Sponseller was born in San Bernardino, Calif. He moved to Fritch 25 years ago where he was a machinist for Specialty Compressor and Engine Co. He married Melva Green in 1970 at California. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark Sponseller of Borger; a daughter, Rhonda Hollowell of Borger; a sister, Beverly Potter of Iola, Kan.; and two grandchildren. The family will be at 110 Sioux Trail in Fritch. Viewing will be at the Borger funeral home. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 2, 1999 Gertrude Johnson Mayhugh WELLINGTON - Gertrude Johnson Mayhugh, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Elvis Pitts, retired Baptist minister of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. Mrs. Mayhugh was born in the Rolla community of Collingsworth County and graduated from Wellington High School. A lifelong resident of Collingsworth County, she was a bookkeeper for several cotton gins. Mrs. Mayhugh was a member of Faith Baptist Church, the Arlie and Loco Home Demonstration Club and the Midway Home Extension Club. She was a charter member of the Sabine Pass No. 2459 United Daughters of the Confederacy. She married Roland Mayhugh in 1945 at Wheeler. He died in 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Little of Cheyenne, Okla., and Vickie Porter of Wellington; a sister, Lorene Hill of Wellington; and two grandsons. The family suggests memorials be to Wellington Cemetery Association or the United Daughters of the Confederacy Sabine Pass Scholarship Fund. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 2, 1999 Herschel White SUDAN - Herschel White, 88, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kerry Hurst of Lubbock, the Rev. Jim Hawthorne of Amarillo and Al Harrison of Sudan officiating. Burial will be in Sudan Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home of Sudan. Mr. White was born in Antioch, Okla., and moved to Sudan in 1929 where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and, from 1974 until 1984, a dairyman. In 1984, he moved into town from his farm which was south of Sudan. He married Mae Skinner in 1938 at Amherst. Survivors include his wife and a sister, Hazel Miller of Fairgrove, Mo. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. today and Sunday at the funeral home. They suggest memorials be to First United Methodist Church of Sudan or the Sudan EMS/Fire Department. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 2, 1999 Amarillo Miguel Flores Miguel "Mike" Flores, 4, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999. Rosary was recited on Thursday at St. Laurence Cathedral. Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Laurence Cathedral by the Rev. Patrick Hoffman. Burial was in Llano East Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Daisy Flores and Johnn Ontiveros III; a sister, Stephine Flores; a brother, George Flores; and his grandparents, Leonel and Conszelo Flores. The family will be at 729 N. Roberts. A benefit fund in Mike's name has been established at the Amarillo Community Federal Credit Union. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 2, 1999 Arlow Chandler Arlow Chandler, 85, of Amarillo, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Chandler was born in Mountain Park, Okla., and was a longtime resident of Amarillo. During World War II, he served in the Army and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Chandler was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was an office machine repairman for Elliott-Russell. He married Frances Dwight in 1939 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert M. Chandler of Canyon; a daughter, Sandy Vasquez of Canyon; a sister, Ethel Russell of Santa Fe, N.M.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Veteran Administration's Hospice. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 2, 1999 New Mexico Clois M. Glover CLOVIS, N.M. - Clois M. Glover, 78, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Glover was born in Vernon, Texas, and had lived in Clovis since 1945. He served in the Army during World War II. A long-time area farmer and rancher, he was a member of the Prince Street Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Keith Heying of Amarillo; two daughters, Judy Ford and Beverly Harris, both of Clovis; three sisters, Omega Simpson and Maedelle Martin, both of Clovis and Jeanne Kriegel of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Janousek Funeral Home with Troy Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Bohemian National Cemetery at Timken. Mrs. Serpan was born in Alexander, Kan., and was a longtime resident of Rush County. She married Otto Serpan and they lived in Timken. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1961; by a daughter, Evelyn Klimek; and three sons, Marvin Serpan, Ervin Serpan and Gene Serpan. Survivors include two daughters, Viola Jennings of Amarillo and Dorothy Burgardt of Timken; two brothers, George Frank of Missouri and Allen Frank of Liberty, Mo.; a sister, Millie Dunn of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-greatgrandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, Sunday and prior to service time on Monday at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 2, 1999 Elsewhere Virginia Ruth Turk TYLER - Virginia Ruth Turk, 77, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999. Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Marvin United Methodist Church with Dr. Michael Dent and the Rev. Jerry Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Lloyd James Funeral Home of Tyler. Mrs. Turk was born in Waxahachie and had lived in Tyler since 1926. She was a graduate of Tyler High School, Tyler Junior College and Texas Woman's University. She was a housewife and a 50-plus year member of Marvin United Methodist Church. Mrs. Turk was a professional musician who was a soloist for 28 years at the Christ Episcopal Church, choir director of St. Paul United Methodist Church and sang at First Christian Church. She was employed by New York Fabric Store. Survivors include her husband, W.H. "Bill" Turk of Tyler; a son, Robert Turk of Amarillo; a daughter, Mary Linda Gammell of Tyler; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 2, 1999 Oklahoma Shirley Arteberry SAYRE, Okla. - Shirley Arteberry, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Sayre with the Rev. Lynn Brack officiating. Burial will be in Sayre-Doxey Cemetery. Mrs. Arteberry was born in Hooker and moved to Grimes community with her family. She attended St. Joseph's School. After her marriage, she lived near New Liberty then moved to Sayre in the late 1940s. With her husband, Mrs. Arteberry was involved in several business ventures including a drive-in restaurant, a hobby shop and a Ford tractor dealership. She married Dave Arteberry in 1930 at Elk City. He died in 1989. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Clyda Ellen Reynolds and Lettie Joan Fuchs. Survivors include four children, Gardner Arteberry of Leawood, Kan., Mattie Gail Thompson of Erick, Davey Sue Thomas of Pueblo West, Colo., and Frankie Diana Franklin of Elk City; 22 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
