Smith Gerald T. Smith, 61, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Dalhart. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Smith moved to Amarillo in 1957. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and a member of St. Laurence Cathedral. Survivors include a daughter, Pam Luman of Amarillo; a sister, Betty Heiskell of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be to the Make A Wish Foundation. Chester Nunn Chester Nunn, 75, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. J. Alan Ford, pastor of Southwest Baptist Church, and Ken Cargle officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday in White Deer Cemetery in White Deer. Mr. Nunn was born in Clovis, N.M., and attended West Texas State University and Clarendon College. For many years, he was a rural mail carrier and farmer in White Deer. In 1988, he retired and moved to Amarillo., Mr. Nunn was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church. He married Maxine Clemmens in 1960 at White Deer. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Kay Rapstine of White Deer and Sheri Lee Andrews of Amarillo; a brother, H.E. Nunn of Clovis; a sister, Virginia Hale of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and four grandchildren. The family will be at 6008 Shawnee Trail. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. Kristin Anne Huff Kristin Anne Huff, 41, of Sugar Land, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson, senior pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Ms. Huff was born in Neubrucke, Germany. Her medical career began as a volunteer at Amarillo hospitals and as an Explorer Scout in the medical troop. She graduated with honors from Amarillo College with an associate degree in nursing. Until her retirement in 1992, Ms. Huff worked as a registered nurse in the ICU unit. In 1997, she moved to the Houston area and worked as an ICU nurse in the Houston Medical Center until 1998. Survivors include her parents, Gene and Ima Jean Huff of Sugar Land; a brother, Paul Huff of Sugar Land; and her grandparents, Jewett and Mable Huff of Amarillo. Box 447, Amarillo, TX 79178. New Mexico Rex L. Rinker CLAYTON, N.M. - Rex L. Rinker, 71, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Rammage, pastor, and the Rev. Chip Bryant, pastor of First Baptist Church of Texline, officiating. Burial will be in Rinker Cemetery near Seneca by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. Mr. Rinker was born near Moses. He attended school in Seneca and graduated from Clayton High School in 1945. During World War II, he served with the Navy in the Pacific. From 1952 until 1962, he lived in Bayfield, Colo., where he was a brick and stone mason. He had ranched and farmed in Union County near Clayton since 1962. He married Billie Jo McIntire in 1950 at Santa Rosa. Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Rinker of Clayton; two daughters, Cheryl Callis of Texline, Texas, and Kay Irwin of Nara Visa; two sisters, Lois Reynolds of Albuquerque and Verna Ruth Carmack of Aztec; two brothers, Lloyd Rinker of Amarillo and Harold Rinker of Warren, Ark.; and eight grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Union County General Hospital, 301 Harding St., Clayton, N.M. Carlos Leal CLAYTON, N.M. - Carlos Leal, 91, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church by the Rev. George Silva. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Francis by the Rev. Silva. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors. Mr. Leal was born in Ocate and was a longtime resident of Union County. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa, Oct. 4, and by a son, Charles J. Lane in 1996. Survivors include a son, John D. William Douglas Poage CLOVIS, N.M. - William Douglas "Doug" Poage, 92, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Glen Rest Cemetery at Big Lake, Texas, with the Rev. J.B. Bitner officiating. Arrangements are by SteedTodd Funeral Home. Mr. Poage was born in Mertzon, Texas. As a young man, he worked on the old Bar S, now known as the Rocker B, the Suggs Ranch and the old Riker Place. During his lifetime, he owned and operated ranches in Texas, New Mexico and Missouri. He was a charter member of the Turtle Association, which developed into the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. He participated in many rodeos in Texas, New Mexico and the Cheyenne Rodeo in New York's Madison Square Gardens. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard. Survivors include his wife, Maurine; a daughter, Kathy Poppels of Austin, Texas; a stepdaughter, Berte Dahl of Mountainair; a sister, Altha Hickerson of College Station, Texas; and a brother, J.D. Poage of Big Lake. Cecilia B. Martinez CLOVIS, N.M. - Cecilia B. Martinez, 88, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Monday in Muffley Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community with Daniel Chavez, deacon, officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories. Ms. Martinez was born in Colonias and moved to Clovis in 1925. She was a homemaker and sales representative for Avon Cosmetics for many years. Active in many community services, she was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she was in the Third Order of St. Francis, a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She was preceded in death by two children. Survivors include a brother, Elijo Martinez of Clovis; and six sisters, Frances Sandoval, Tonie Drummond, Josie Campbell, Susie Sena, Florinda Gallegos and Mary Ann Sandoval, all of Clovis. Andrea Jaques CLOVIS, N.M. - Andrea Jaques, 91, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday in the Chapel, 1500 Thornton. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community with Daniel Chavez, deacon, officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Jaques was born in Tucumcari and moved to Clovis in 1940. She was a seamstress for the Old Clovis Hotel and later for Clovis Steam Laundry and Dry Cleaners. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Third Order of St. Francis. She married Manuel Jaques in 1937 at Clovis. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 13, and by an infant daughter, Mary Frances Jaques. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Gonzales of Clovis; a grandson, Steven R. Gonzales of the home; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Elsewhere Beverly Sue Baker Tye ARLINGTON - Beverly Sue Baker Tye, 70, died Friday, April 2, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church in Arlington. Arrangements are by Guardian Funeral Home of Arlington. Mrs. Tye was born in Phillips and attended school in Pampa. She also attended West Texas State College. An Arlington resident for 46 years, she was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Aeronautical Engineers Wives Club, Garden Study Club, Shady Ladies Bridge Club and Arlington Women's Club. Survivors include her husband, Reuben D. Tye Jr.; five sons, Doug Tye, Tom Tye, Chris Tye, Stephen Tye and Bruce Tye; a sister, Janice Shackelford of California; and seven grandchildren. Oklahoma Bessie Eleanor Webb GUYMON, Okla. - Bessie Eleanor Webb, 84, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in James Church of God with the Rev. Donnie Callaway officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. A lifelong Guymon resident, Mrs. Webb was born in the Eva community. She attended Anchor De country school and graduated from Goodwell High School. She was a homemaker, a member of the James Church of God and helped with the family farming and ranching. She married John William Webb in 1936 at Hugoton, Kan. Preceding her in death were her husband in 1998 and a son, Leon Webb. Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne Burton of Elkhart, Kan.; two sons, Benton Webb and Jerry Webb, both of the Eva community; a sister, Eunice Webb of Guymon; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Area Judy Nell McClellan Rannals STINNETT - Judy Nell McClellan Rannals, 56, died Friday, April 2, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Gruver Cemetery at Gruver with the Rev. Billy Holland, pastor of First Christian Church of Stinnett, officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors. Mrs. Rannals was born in Borger and had been a resident of Stinnett for 15 years. She was a housewife and a member of Stinnett United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Barton Joe Stevens of Stinnett; two sisters, Betty Burrus of Stinnett and Lou Chapman of Gruver; and two grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing in Brown Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel at Stinnett until service time. Alice Stofel TULIA - Alice Stofel, 90, died Friday, April 2, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Wallace Funeral Home Chapel with Frances Scott, pastor of Primitive Baptist Church of Tulia, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. today in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah. Mrs. Stofel was born in Graham. She was a homemaker and member of the Primitive Baptist Church. She married Charlie H. Stofel in 1928 at Odell. He died in 1964. She also was preceded in death by two sons, W.B. Stofel in February, and Tommy Stofel in 1964. Survivors include two sons, Earl Stofel and Ray Stofel, both of Littlefield; two daughters, Bobbye Chaney of Paducah and Juanita Lee of Tulia; a sister, Elsa Kerner of Seymour; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren. Steven Austin Salomon PLAINVIEW - Steven Austin Salomon, 33, died Saturday, March 14, 1999. Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Friday in Plainview Cemetery with Travis Starnes officiating. Arrangements were by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Salomon was born in San Francisco. He married Toni Anelle in 1991 at Stockton, Calif. Survivors include his wife of Amarillo; a daughter, Kristen Salomon of Amarillo and a son, Jesse Salomon of Amarillo. Johnny C. Horton ADRIAN - Johnny C. Horton, 84, died Friday, April 2, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church of Adrian with the Rev. Melvin Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega by Vega Funeral Home, 110 S. Main. Mr. Horton was born in Camp Springs and had lived in Adrian since 1933. He served with the Army during World War II. For 48 years, he was a farmer, carpenter and rural mail carrier. Mr. Horton was the former mayor of Adrian, past president of Adrian Lions Club, a member of Masonic Lodge No. 899 and First Baptist Church of Adrian. He also served on the rural health board, the water board and the school board. He was active with area children in Boy Scouts, 4-H, Little League baseball and Sunday School. He married Stella Mosteller in 1943 at Albuquerque, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mike Horton of Stinnett; a daughter, Doriss Hambrick of Waco; two sisters, Ruth "Bob" Brown of Adrian and Letha Jones of Carlsbad, N.M.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Nora Lawhon HEREFORD - Nora Lawhon, 96, died Friday, April 2, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Rose Chapel of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Dean McNamara, chaplain of Vista Care Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mrs. Lawhon was born in Scuffletown, Ky., and moved to Texas in 1908. She was a homemaker and member of First Christian Church, Hereford Riders Club and Ye Old Square Dance Club. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and was past worthy matron. She married Elmo L. "Pat" Lawhon in 1924 at Hereford. He died in 1978. Survivors include her son, Jim Lawhon of Waco; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will be at the Red Carpet Inn. Edith Curtis HEREFORD - Edith Curtis, 82, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Rose Chapel of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Crosby, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mrs. Curtis was born in Quay, N.M., and moved to Deaf Smith County in 1968 from Durango, Colo. She was a homemaker and member of Christian Assembly of God Church. She married Cordell Curtis in 1950 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Rosa Clark of Belen, N.M., and Laveta Hergenreter of Odessa; a sister, Lenora Eisert; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. The family will be at 526 Sycamore. Laurie Griggs PLAINVIEW - Laurie "Aunt Ree" Griggs, 90, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Whiteflat Cemetery, eight miles north of Matador, with Jerry Morriss of Dallas and Robert Black of First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home of Plainview. Mrs. Griggs was born in Roby and graduated from Wayland Baptist University. She taught school in Los Angeles for 40 years, working with learning disabled children. In 1973, she moved to Plainview where she was a volunteer with the Pink Ladies hospital auxiliary, member of First Baptist Church and worked with children's programs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodger Griggs. Survivors include two sisters, Dan Barton of Matador and Eunice Perkins of Mesquite; and a brother, Dr. Bruce Browning of Abilene. The family suggests memorials be to Texas Tech School of Medical Research Fund for Prevention and Wellness.
