Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Westlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Darrell Trout, pastor of Fritch Assembly of God, and the Rev. Tommy Breznik, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Love by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Sponseller was born in San Bernardino, Calif. He moved to Fritch 25 years ago where he was a machinist for Specialty Compressor and Engine Co. He married Melva Green in 1970 at California. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark Sponseller of Borger; a daughter, Rhonda Hollowell of Borger; a sister, Beverly Potter of Iola, Kan.; and two grandchildren. The family will be at 110 Sioux Trail in Fritch. Viewing will be at the Borger funeral home. Amarillo Sunday News-Globe Oct. 3, 1999 Gertrude Johnson Mayhugh WELLINGTON - Gertrude Johnson Mayhugh, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Elvis Pitts, retired Baptist minister of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. Mrs. Mayhugh was born in the Rolla community of Collingsworth County and graduated from Wellington High School. A lifelong resident of Collingsworth County, she was a bookkeeper for several cotton gins. Mrs. Mayhugh was a member of Faith Baptist Church, the Arlie and Loco Home Demonstration Club and the Midway Home Extension Club. She was a charter member of the Sabine Pass No. 2459 United Daughters of the Confederacy. She married Roland Mayhugh in 1945 at Wheeler. He died in 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Little of Cheyenne, Okla., and Vickie Porter of Wellington; a sister, Lorene Hill of Wellington; and two grandsons. The family suggests memorials be to Wellington Cemetery Association or the United Daughters of the Confederacy Sabine Pass Scholarship Fund. Amarillo Sunday News-Globe Oct. 3, 1999 Herschel White SUDAN - Herschel White, 88, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kerry Hurst of Lubbock, the Rev. Jim Hawthorne of Amarillo and Al Harrison of Sudan officiating. Burial will be in Sudan Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home of Sudan. Mr. White was born in Antioch, Okla., and moved to Sudan in 1929 where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and, from 1974 until 1984, a dairyman. In 1984, he moved into town from his farm which was south of Sudan. He married Mae Skinner in 1938 at Amherst. Survivors include his wife and a sister, Hazel Miller of Fairgrove, Mo. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. They suggest memorials be to First United Methodist Church of Sudan or the Sudan EMS/Fire Department. Richard Bartel, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. York was born at Longrun, Mo., and moved to Pampa from Oklahoma in 1947. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Her son, James Howell Caldwell, died in 1974. She married Kenneth Troy York in 1951 at Lovington, N.M. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church with Drew Travis of the church, Dr. Charles Teykl of First Presbyterian Church in Rosenberg and Craig Etheredge of Northwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City officiating. Arrangements are by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Manges was born in Plainview, where he attended schools. He was sales manager for Cooper Pontiac-Cadillac and Sheppard Chevrolet Company, was a master sales broker in real estate since 1985, and owned and operated the Trade Lot. He also owned Manges Motor Company and was an elder at First Presbyterian Church. He married Clarisse Taylor Manges in 1954 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Randee Teykl of Rosenberg; a son, David Manges of Lubbock; his mother, Thelma Manges of Plainview; a sister, Faye Black of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Street Church of Christ with Mr. Art Lynch, minister, officiating, and Mr. Ben Mereness, minister of Southwest Church of Christ at Amarillo. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Smith was born in Stamford and had lived in Dumas since 1965. He was in the agriculture and fertilizer business. During World War II, he served with the Navy. While in Dumas, he was a member of First Street Church of Christ. He married Ruby McClendon in 1939 at Lockney. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Iwana Sell of Greeley, Colo., Carolyn Mitchell of Metamora, Ill., and Genelle Patton of Sunray; two sisters, Maurine Ellis of Amarillo and Thelma Rhine of Burnet; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will be at 1113 Bennett and suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, P.O. In Hereford, she was a sales clerk at Gatson's and a member of First Baptist Church. She married William F. "Bill" McCarver in 1936 at Shamrock. He died in 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Anne Thomason of Canyon and Judy Lisewsky of San Angelo; two sisters, Bessie Clark of Fort Worth and Nancy White of Frisco, Colo.; and two grandchildren. Burial will be in Paducah Garden of Memories by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Shamlin was born in Paducah, where she graduated from Paducah High School in 1964. She graduated from Amarillo College and attended St. Anthony's School of Nursing at Amarillo. She was a registered nurse in Clarendon and Memphis and for Home Health in Childress. Survivors include a daughter, Kay Shamlin Hutson of Amarillo; her mother, Helen Johnston of Paducah; a brother, Charlie Johnston of Childress; and a grandchild. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Morrison Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with Mr. Milton Pax of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Mr. Triplett was born in Collinsville, Okla., and had lived in Dumas since 1945. He worked for American Zinc for 25 years and was a prisoner of war while serving with the Army during World War II. He married Alice Hearron in 1942 at Stigler, Okla. She died in 1997. Survivors include three daughters, Nedra Ockerman of Plainview, Sue Pullin of Deer Park and Carla Nichols of Chino, Calif.; a son, Derrel Triplett of Seattle; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Chandler was born in Mountain Park, Okla., and was a longtime resident of Amarillo. During World War II, he served in the Army and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Chandler was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was an office machine repairman for Elliott-Russell. He married Frances Dwight in 1939 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert M. Chandler of Canyon; a daughter, Sandy Vasquez of Canyon; a sister, Ethel Russell of Santa Fe, N.M.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church. She married Robert B. Glenn in 1969 at Amarillo. He died in 1989. Survivors include a son, Robert Glenn III of Amarillo; three daughters, Cindy Turner of Denver, Mary Glenn of Amarillo, and Susan Snow of Austin; a sister, Polly LaFitte of Raymond, Miss.; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Price, pastor, and the Rev. Greg Corona, nephew, and pastor of Christ Church in Oronogo, Mo., officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Rowe Cemetery at Hedley by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St., of Amarillo. Mr. Butler was born in Clarendon and graduated from Hedley High School in 1964. For 35 years, he worked for Ben E. Keith Foods, where he was president and general manager. He married Donna Gayle Hill in 1970 at Clarendon and they moved to Canyon in 1976. He served with the Marine Reserves for six years and was a member of First Baptist Church at Canyon for 20 years. He was a member of the Amarillo Executive Club, the Texas Restaurant Association and was a West Texas A&M University Booster. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Angie Hickam of Canyon and Jennifer Griffin of Wichita Falls; six sisters, Altie May Condran of Kaufman, Oneda McCracken, Elnora Corona and Marie Burchfield, all of Amarillo, and Mallissa Price and Hatti Butler, both of Huntington; five brothers, Royce Butler of Amarillo, Perlie Butler of Ivan, S.C., Jimmy Butler of Houston, G.L. Butler of Pollock and Henry Butler of Lone Oak; and two grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at Brooks Funeral Directors in Canyon. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m today. Mrs. Moore was born in Hollis, Okla., and moved to Clovis in 1935. She worked for Bob Skeen Tailor Shop and for 57 years was the owner/operator of Mae's Beauty Shop. For several years, she was active with and past president of B.P.O. Drove No. 1240. She was a member of First Christian Church. She married Edgar P. Moore in 1940 at Clovis.
