Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community with Daniel Chavez, deacon, officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories. Ms. Martinez was born in Colonias and moved to Clovis in 1925. She was a homemaker and sales representative for Avon Cosmetics for many years. Active in many community services, she was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she was in the Third Order of St. Francis, a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She was preceded in death by two children. Survivors include a brother, Elijo Martinez of Clovis; and six sisters, Frances Sandoval, Tonie Drummond, Josie Campbell, Susie Sena, Florinda Gallegos and Mary Ann Sandoval, all of Clovis. Andrea Jaques CLOVIS, N.M. - Andrea Jaques, 91, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Monday in the Chapel, 1500 Thornton. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community with Daniel Chavez, deacon, officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Jaques was born in Tucumcari and moved to Clovis in 1940. She was a seamstress for the Old Clovis Hotel and later for Clovis Steam Laundry and Dry Cleaners. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Third Order of St. Francis. She married Manuel Jaques in 1937 at Clovis. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 13, and by an infant daughter, Mary Frances Jaques. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Gonzales of Clovis; a grandson, Steven R. Gonzales of the home; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Albert L. Roybal Sr. TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Albert L. Roybal Sr., 74, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Vigil services will be at 6:30 p.m. today at the Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday in St. Anne's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the family plot in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Roybal was born in Fort Sumner, N.M., where he attended schools. He was a farmer and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. Survivors include eight sons, Robert and Danny, both of Amarillo, Earl Roybal of Ennis, Albert Roybal Jr. of Cedar Hill, Richard Roybal of Colorado Springs, Colo., Eddie Joe Roybal of Carlsbad, N.M., and Ernest Roybal of Manchester, Tenn.; six daughters, Mary Montoya of Amarillo, Viola Griego, Judy Roybal, Sally Roybal and Virginia Gonzales, all of Tucumcari, and Teresa Juarez of Grand Prairie; six sisters; and two brothers; 52 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be from today until time for Mass on Monday. Charles E. Green CLOVIS, N.M. - Charles E. Green, 81, died Saturday, April 3, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Plains Sanctuary Mausoleum, Mission Garden of Memories. Mr. Green was born in Rushville, Ind., and graduated from Clovis High School and from Eastern New Mexico University with the first graduating class. He worked at Mandells Clothing and at a shoe store. He began working as a teller for Clovis National Bank in 1947, and retired as senior vice president in 1983. He served on the board of directors of Sun West Bank until his retirement, was a member of the Clovis Lodge No. 40 AF&AM, the New Mexico Bankers Association, First Methodist Church, Men's Bible class, and was a Scottish Rite Mason. Survivors include a niece, Judy Servis of Roswell, N.M.; a nephew, Dr. Green of Santa Fe, N.M.; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. The family will be at the home of Julie and Ty Shaw, 2005 Jonquil Park in Clovis. Oklahoma Bessie Eleanor Webb GUYMON, Okla. - Bessie Eleanor Webb, 84, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in James Church of God with the Rev. Donnie Callaway officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. A lifelong Guymon resident, Mrs. Webb was born in the Eva community. She attended Anchor De country school and graduated from Goodwell High School. She was a homemaker, a member of the James Church of God and helped with the family farming and ranching. She married John William Webb in 1936 at Hugoton, Kan. Preceding her in death were her husband in 1998 and a son, Leon Webb. Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne Burton of Elkhart, Kan.; two sons, Benton Webb and Jerry Webb, both of the Eva community; a sister, Eunice Webb of Guymon; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mary Lea Lucas TEXHOMA, Okla. - Mary Lea Lucas, 68, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Stratford Cemetery. Arrangements are by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home. Mrs. Lucas was born in Medicine Creek, Okla., and moved to Texhoma from Stratford, where she was a cafe owner and apartment manager. She was a Jehovah's Witness. She married Freddie Lucas in 1947 at Dalhart. He died in 1994. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bart. Survivors include a daughter, Tonjua Lucas of Garber, Okla.; three sons, Freddie Lister "Bud" Lucas and Barry Lucas, both of Oklahoma City, and Mark Lucas of Gillette, Wyo.; a sister, Lovette Childs of Lubec, Maine.; three brothers, Loyd Hurst of Teague, Les Hurst of Lander, Wyo., and Bob Hurst of Magnolia; and nine grandchildren. Amarillo Gerald T. Smith Gerald T. Smith, 61, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Dalhart. Chester Nunn Chester Nunn, 75, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in N.S. For many years, he was a rural mail carrier and farmer in White Deer. In 1988, he retired and moved to Amarillo. Mr. Nunn was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church. He married Maxine Clemmens in 1960 at White Deer. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Kay Rapstine of White Deer and Sheri Lee Andrews of Amarillo; a brother, H.E. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. Kristin Anne Huff Kristin Anne Huff, 41, of Sugar Land, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson, senior pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Ms. Huff was born in Neubrucke, Germany. Her medical career began as a volunteer at Amarillo hospitals and as an Explorer Scout in the medical troop. She graduated with honors from Amarillo College with an associate degree in nursing. Until her retirement in 1992, Ms. Huff worked as a registered nurse in the ICU unit. In 1997, she moved to the Houston area and worked as an ICU nurse in the Houston Medical Center until 1998. Survivors include her parents, Gene and Ima Jean Huff of Sugar Land; a brother, Paul Huff of Sugar Land; and her grandparents, Jewett and Mable Huff of Amarillo. Hamra and Powell in Borger, and as a realty specialist for the Bureau of Reclamation from 1978 until her retirement in 1995. She married Lloyd Emmett Andrews in 1945 at Laverne, Okla. He died in 1977. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sherrill Faye Andrews, in 1947. She married Jack Dodson in 1987 at Las Vegas. Bennie Nevels Bennie Nevels, 94, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Hughes St. Mr. Nevels was born in Schulenburg and attended schools in Rosebud. In 1936, he moved to Clarendon, where he operated several small businesses. He moved to Amarillo in 1945, where he was owner/operator of the Green Gables and English Motels on Amarillo Boulevard until his retirement in 1982. He served with the Army during World War II. He married Bertha Bradley in 1937 at Claude. Survivors include his wife; a son, Timothy Nevels of Randallstown, Md.; six daughters, Barbara Hampton of Moreno Valley, Calif., Carolyn M. Nevels, Linda Randolph and Mary Brent, all of San Jose, Calif., Phyllis Nevels of Amarillo and Myrtleen Washington of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. An Arlington resident for 46 years, she was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Aeronautical Engineers Wives Club, Garden Study Club, Shady Ladies Bridge Club and Arlington Women's Club. Survivors include her husband, Reuben D. Tye Jr.; five sons, Doug Tye, Tom Tye, Chris Tye, Stephen Tye and Bruce Tye; a sister, Janice Shackelford of California; and seven grandchildren. He served with the Army during World War II, and later was in the furniture business until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Broadway Church of Christ, the Order of Eastern Star, and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. He married Mary Zoe Gardenhire in 1943 at Denton. She died in 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Martin of Danville, Ill.; a son, Roy David Heath of Plano; a brother, Wallace Heath of Amarillo; a sister, Bobbye Jo Heath of Lubbock; and four grandchildren. Kansas Ralph M. Reynolds LIBERAL, Kan. - Ralph M. Reynolds, 74, died Saturday, April 3, 1999. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Wilkins and Dr. John Loucks officiating. Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery by Miller Mortuary. Mr. Reynolds was born in Springdale, Ark., graduated from high school in Grenola, Kan., in 1943, and from Wichita University in 1952 with a degree in geology. He moved to Liberal, where he was employed by Columbian Fuel Corp., Lion Oil Co., and was a self-employed ASA consulting geologist. He became a partner in PAR Petroleum in 1975 and later, the sole owner. He served with the Navy during World War II. He married Mary Louise Yates in 1946 at Wichita, Kan. Survivors include his wife; a son, Rodney Ralph Reynolds of Lawrence, Kan.; a daughter, Rhonda Jill Covington of Spearman; a sister, Frances Clark of Wichita; and four grandchildren. Burial was at 3 p.m. in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah. Mrs. Stofel was born in Graham. She was a homemaker and member of the Primitive Baptist Church. She married Charlie H. Stofel in 1928 at Odell. He died in 1964. She also was preceded in death by two sons, W.B. Stofel in February, and Tommy Stofel in 1964. Survivors include his wife of Amarillo; a daughter, Kristen Salomon of Amarillo; and a son, Jesse Salomon of Amarillo. Johnny C. Horton ADRIAN - Johnny C. Horton, 84, died Friday, April 2, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church of Adrian with the Rev. Melvin Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega by Vega Funeral Home, 110 S. Main. Mr. Horton was born in Camp Springs and had lived in Adrian since 1933. He served with the Army during World War II. For 48 years, he was a farmer, carpenter and rural mail carrier. Mr. Horton was the former mayor of Adrian, past president of Adrian Lions Club, a member of Masonic Lodge No. 899 and First Baptist Church of Adrian. He also served on the rural health board, the water board and the school board. He was active with area children in Boy Scouts, 4-H, Little League baseball and Sunday School. He married Stella Mosteller in 1943 at Albuquerque, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mike Horton of Stinnett; a daughter, Doriss Hambrick of Waco; two sisters, Ruth "Bob" Brown of Adrian and Letha Jones of Carlsbad, N.M.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Dean McNamara, chaplain of Vista Care Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mrs. Lawhon was born in Scuffletown, Ky., and moved to Texas in 1908. She was a homemaker and member of First Christian Church, Hereford Riders Club and Ye Old Square Dance Club. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and was past worthy matron. She married Elmo L. "Pat" Lawhon in 1924 at Hereford. He died in 1978. Survivors include her son, Jim Lawhon of Waco; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will be at the Red Carpet Inn. She was a homemaker and member of Christian Assembly of God Church. She married Cordell Curtis in 1950 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Rosa Clark of Belen, N.M., and Laveta Hergenreter of Odessa; a sister, Lenora Eisert; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 526 Sycamore. Laurie Griggs PLAINVIEW - Laurie "Aunt Ree" Griggs, 90, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Whiteflat Cemetery, eight miles north of Matador, with Jerry Morriss of Dallas and Robert Black of First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements were by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home of Plainview. Mrs. Griggs was born in Roby and graduated from Wayland Baptist University. She taught school in Los Angeles for 40 years, working with learning disabled children. In 1973, she moved to Plainview where she was a volunteer with the Pink Ladies hospital auxiliary, member of First Baptist Church and worked with children's programs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodger Griggs. Survivors include two sisters, Dan Barton of Matador and Eunice Perkins of Mesquite; and a brother, Dr. Bruce Browning of Abilene. William Merritt Johnson PAMPA - William Merritt "Bill" Johnson, 86, died Thursday, April 1, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Christian Church with the Revs. Darrell W. Mr. Johnson was born in Roby and moved to Pampa in 1963. He worked on the Andy Smith Ranch, the Price Ranch and the Shoe Nail Ranch from 1963 until his retirement in 1989. Since 1990, he was employed as a school crossing guard by the city of Pampa for local elementary schools. He was a member of the Pampa Senior Citizens and First Christian Church where he served as a deacon. He married Flossie Odell in 1960 at Andrews. Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Becky Shute of Colorado Springs, Colo., Judy Gaddy of Cantonment, Fla., Jennifer Jo George of Julesberg, Colo., Marilyn Sue Harlan of Houston, Nancy Scoggin of San Antonio and Janell Odell of Prairie Grove, Ark.; two sisters, Flossie Anderson of Pampa and Faye Stalcup of Wichita Falls; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Rhodes was born in Floydada, and had lived for over 30 years in Hereford, where he owned and operated D&R Builders. He served with the Army during World War II, and was a member of the Nazarene Church. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Ranspot of Carson City, Nev., Sheila Rhodes of Grapevine and Melinda Whitfill of Hereford. The family suggests memorials be to the Nazarene Church Missions. Walter Bugbee Knorpp CLARENDON - Walter Bugbee "Buddy" Knorpp, 82, died Friday, April 5, 1999. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ned Creswell officiating. Cremation was arranged by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Knorpp was born in Clarendon where he lived for most of his life until moving recently to San Antonio. He was director of the Donley County State Bank and was instrumental in the establishment of the new Clarendon College campus. He served for several years as president of the Clarendon School Board and was a member of the Clarendon College Board of Regents. He was involved in ranching and the insurance business, and was a member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church. He married Margaret Kelly in 1939 at Clarendon. She died in 1989. Survivors include two sons, Walter B. Knorpp Jr. and Todd Lewis Knorpp, both of Clarendon; a daughter, Karen Rose of Abilene; two brothers, John Knorpp and Carroll Knorpp, both of Clarendon; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Billy Dale Noble TULIA - Billy Dale Noble, 39, died Friday, April 2, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Wallace Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Tom Noble, retired Pentacostal pastor, and Jim Noble, Pentacostal pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Noble was born in Lockney and attended schools in Tulia. He worked for oil companies on the seismograph crew as a surveyor. Survivors include his parents, Bill and Pat Noble of Tulia; a brother, Mike Noble of Plano; and his grandfather, Clifford Yates of Rawls. Bennie May Whitener WHEELER - Bennie May Whitener, 88, died Saturday, April 3, 1999. Graveside services will be at 11:30 Tuesday in Wheeler Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Country Chapel Church with the Rev. Delmas Jones of Hope, Ark., officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home. Mrs. Whitener was born in Wheeler and graduated from Wheeler High School in 1926, and from West Texas State Teachers College in 1930. She moved to Lubbock and returned to Wheeler in 1994. She was a homemaker and taught at various levels in the Wheeler school system. She also taught a young married couples Sunday school class at First Baptist Church, and was a member of the Country Chapel. She married Gordon Wayne Whitener in 1934 at Wheeler. Survivors include her husband; a son, William Whitener of Valdosta, Ga; a daughter, Nancy Miller of Wheeler; a sister, Ruby Lee Sandifer of Abilene; a brother, Glenn Williams of Wheeler; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.
