Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Stanley-Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Clinton with Patrick Peters officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Dalhart Cemetery in Dalhart. Mrs. Swimmer was born in Gruver, raised in Dalhart and retired after 16 years as a bookkeeper for New Horizons. After marrying Merrill Dryden in 1951 at Dalhart, she farmed in the Dalhart and Sunray area. From 1966 until 1968, she was the manager of the Sunray Newspaper and later moved to Hereford, where she was society editor of the newspaper. She moved to Burns Flat and to Clinton in 1980. She married Lonnie Swimmer in 1968 at Wheat Ridge, Colo. Survivors include three sons, Gary Dryden of Canyon, Van Dryden of Amarillo and Scott Dryden of Wichita, Kan.; her stepmother, Maudie McRee of Odessa; three sisters, Eloise Buck of Denton, Joanne Sanders of Crosby, Mary Degan of Germantown, Tenn.; two brothers, Mike McRee of Cypress and Charles Sweatt of Odessa; and six grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to V.F.W. Post No. 4465. Amarillo Daily News Dec. 6, 1999 Virginia Nell Tarver WELLINGTON - Virginia Nell Tarver, 67, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Monte Kreis, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Tarver was born in Collingsworth County, was a 1949 graduate of Wellington High School and graduated from Texas Woman's University. She retired as a teacher in 1991 and was a member of the Retired Teacher Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and First United Methodist Church. She married Joe Tarver in 1954 at Kelly. He died in 1997. Her son, Shane Tarver, died in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Sallie Tarver of Amarillo; a son, Scott Tarver of Wellington; two brothers, Chub White of Wellington and Kelly White of Frisco, Colo.; three sisters, Peggy Holland and Joanna Thomason, both of Wellington and Helen Foote of Frisco; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Lankford was born in Childress, where she graduated from high school in 1989. In 1996, she graduated from West Texas A&M University with a bachelor of science degree in Special Education. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Childress. She married Darwin Lankford in 1990 at Childress. Scott Curry officiating. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Mayberry was born in Sallisaw, Okla., and moved to Gruver in 1992 from Broaddus. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Gruver and worked as a house mover until her retirement in 1987. She married Carl Jefferson Mayberry in 1976 at Borger. He died in 1992. She married Leon McDonald in 1963 at Borger. She had lived in Pine Bluff, Wyo., taught school in Headrick, Okla., and for 10 years, lived in Loveland, Colo. She married Woodard Lee in 1926 at Headrick. He died in 1973. She married John Marquardt in 1976 at McAllen. He died in 1996. Survivors include a son, Greig Lee of Amarillo; a daughter, Linda West of Fredericksburg, Va.; a sister, Juanita Trimmer of Phoenix; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was the owner and operator of Calamity Jan's Market Place and retired as a hotel manager in 1989. He served with the Marines during World War II and was a member of the American Legion in Abilene. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Terry was born in Caldwell and farmed in the New Home area before moving to Shallowater in 1941. In Shallowater, he was in the restaurant business and a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include a brother, Lewis Terry of Houston; two sisters, Ramona Novak of Lubbock and Grace McMillan of Midland. "Red" Hughes, 78, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Garrett officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will be at 2:30 p.m. in Quitaque Cemetery in Quitaque. Mr. Hughes was born in Love County, Okla., and moved to Lubbock in 1972 from Matador. He was a farmer and a retired oil field worker. During World War II, he served with the Army. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2466 in Lubbock. His son, Danny Lee Hughes, died in 1956. Survivors include a son, John W. Hughes of Phoenix; three daughters, Patsy Sue Hughes of Sacramento, Calif., and Linda Jean Hughes and Kathy Marie Sharrah, both of Lubbock; a brother, Don "Butch" Hughes of Flomot; two sisters, Thelma Pierce of New Deal and Jean Cooper of Matador; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
