Muniz Joe M. Muniz, 82, of Amarillo, died Sunday, July 4, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in BlackburnShaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, 315 E. Fifth Ave., with Elias Reyes, pastor of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Muniz was born in Puerto de Luna, N.M., and moved to Amarillo 59 years ago. He retired from Amarillo Independent School District after 26 years as a custodian. He was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 1984. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, including Josie M. Solis of Amarillo. Edna Mae Ballard Edna Mae Martin Ballard, 93, formerly of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, in Clovis, N.M. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Field, pastor of Southeast Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Ballard was born in Range County. She moved to Amarillo in 1930 from Slaton. She married J. Holt Ballard in 1924 at Slaton. He died in 1969. She married Jimmy Word in 1971. He died in 1973. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Alexander, in 1997. She was a homemaker and was an Amarillo Independent School District cafeteria worker for more than 10 years. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Sammie Smith of Clovis, N.M.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three greatgreat-grandchildren. Alexis Brinae Mascorro Marcus Anthony Mascorro Joseph Andrew Mascorro Alexis Brinae Mascorro died July 3, 1999. Marcus Anthony Mascorro and Joseph Andrew Mascorro died July 4, 1999. The newborn triplets were the children of Elizabeth Trijillo and Jose Louis Mascorro, both of Amarillo. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in St. Laurence Cathedral with Father Arturo officiating. Cockrell, 87, of Amarillo, died Monday, July 5, 1999. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Glen Walton, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Cockrell was born in San Saba County. He married Juanita Maxey in 1951 at Santa Fe, N.M. He moved to Amarillo in 1942 from Paducah. He owned and operated five different Shell service stations in Amarillo. He retired in 1992 from the Wolflin Street Shell station. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Glenn Cockrell of Fritch and John L. Cockrell of Amarillo; three daughters, Jo Ann Bowles of Rowlett, Ruth Havers of Goodyear, Ariz., and Sandy Friesland of Amarillo; a stepson, Cecil Sain of San Angelo; a stepdaughter, Yolanda Grant of Amarillo; a brother, Hurland Cockrell of Floydada; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. New Mexico Verlon Tyler CLAYTON, N.M. - Verlon L. "V.L." Tyler, 81, died Monday, July 5, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lewis C. Coomer of Fort Worth, Texas, officiating. Burial will be in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Haas Funeral Directors. Mr. Tyler was born in 1917 at Charleston, Texas. He married Colleen Welling in 1940 at Texline, Texas. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. He moved to Clayton in 1958 from Fort Worth to work as a mechanic for A & Z Motor Company. He was a self-employed mechanic in the Clayton area until his retirement. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Pat Keller of Clayton and Verlene Bass of Gruver, Texas; a son, James Tyler of Clayton; a brother, Bill Tyler of Newark; five sisters, Opal Uselton of Fort Worth, Mattie Yandell of Madill, Okla., Ruby Brawley of Alvord, Texas, Pearl Crosley of Amarillo and Bessie Pemberton of Saginaw, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Elsewhere Foy Nichols NORTHFIELD - Foy Nichols, 81, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, in Childress. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Church of Christ at Matador with Michael G. Crowley, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Northfield Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mr. Nichols was born in Thalia and lived in the Crowell area for a number of years. He was a World War II veteran and a retired farmer and stockman. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Dorothy Jameson in 1985, and they had lived in the Northfield community since then. Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Travis Jameson of Matador and Franklin Jameson of Northfield; a stepdaughter, Faye Head of Childress; a sister, Lois Bursey of Quanah; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice, 1000 S. Jefferson St., Amarillo, TX 79101. Area Ralph N. Stafford BORGER - Ralph N. Stafford, 87, died Friday, July 2, 1999, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Park Cemetery with Gary Bodine, minister of Borger Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors. Mr. Stafford was born in Illinois and had lived in Borger for 28 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired as a brick layer. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Wiggins of St. Francis, Kan., and Eva Doerfer of Penrose, Colo. Charles H. Cox PAMPA - Charles H. Cox, 67, died Sunday, July 4, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel. Officiants are the Rev. Earl Maddux, Baptist minister from Del City, Okla., and the Rev. Paul Nachtigall, minister of Highland Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Cox was born in Megargel. He moved to Pampa in 1934 from Kellerville and also had lived in Lefors. He married Betty J. Austin in 1951 at Clovis, N.M. She died in 1995. He worked 37 years as an engineer for the Cabot Corp., retiring in 1988. He was a member and deacon of Highland Baptist Church. He also had been a member of Fellowship Baptist Church for 33 years and Friendship Baptist Church for four years. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Keeton of Fritch; a son, David Cox of Pampa; his mother, Iris Blanche Cox of Pampa; two sisters, Dorothy Gallimore of Pampa and Helen McDonald of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Highland Baptist Church. John B. Waits BORGER - John B. Waits, 91, died Sunday, July 4, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Park Cemetery with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors. Mr. Waits was born in Boswell, Okla., and had been a longtime Borger resident. He was a World War II veteran of the Army. He retired as a floor sander. Survivors include two sisters, Lila Baldwin of Houston and Etta Mae Waits of Stockton, Calif. Paul Munoz QUANAH - Paul Munoz, 75, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, in Vernon. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Quanah Memorial Park with the Rev. Oren Key of Vernon officiating. Arrangements are by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Munoz was born in Sabinal and moved to Quanah in 1954. He was a retired farm laborer and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include a brother-in-law, Jessie Gonzales Sr. of Quanah; nieces and nephews. Dorothy Brown PAMPA - Dorothy Brown, 66, died Sunday, July 4, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in McCullough Street Church of Christ with Frankie Lemons, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Brown was born in Childress and moved to Pampa in 1952. She was a past member of the Oklahoma Street Church of Christ and was a current member of McCullough Street Church of Christ. Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Hughes of Oklahoma City, Vivian Brown and Joyce Brown, both of Pampa, and Donna Brown of Arlington; two sons, Lynn Brown of Pampa and Kenneth Adkism of Pampa; three sisters, Willie Owens and Hazel Cole, both of Denver, and Rachel Brown of Altus, Okla.; four brothers, Nathanel Brown of Bristow, Okla., W.B. Brown of Denver, J.D. Brown of Garland and William Brown Jr. of Amarillo; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Kenneth Ray Rowton WHEELER - Kenneth Ray Rowton, 41, died Saturday, July 3, 1999. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday in the Wheeler Cemetery with Bill Morrison, minister of the Wheeler Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements were by Wright Funeral Home. Mr. Rowton was born in Mena, Ark. He moved to Wheeler from Silverton a few months ago. He previously had lived in New Mexico. He was a farm laborer. Survivors include four brothers, Edward Rowton of Littlefield, Richard Van Rowton of Lazbuddie, David Rowton Jr. of Amarillo and Johnny Ray Rowton of Clovis, N.M.; three sisters, Mary Ann Helms of Sayre, Okla., Betty Ann Rowton of Memphis and Brenda Butler of Corpus Christi; and his fiance, Paula Crawford of Wheeler. Sam Srader CHILDRESS - Sam Srader, 67, died Sunday, July 4, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Sims, pastor of Trinity Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in the Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Srader was born in Hollis, Okla. He married Betty Hanners in 1952 at Quanah. He worked 42 years for West Texas Utilities. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Messer, in 1989. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Dessie Davis of Childress and Becky Pleming and Linda Srader, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Wilma Graveley of Quanah and Madeline Tephner of Clairmont, Calif.; and nine grandchildren. Eleanor Morris Blasingame CLAUDE - Eleanor Morris Blasingame, 85, died Sunday, July 4, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church at Clarendon with the Rev. Ned Creswell, vicar, officiating. Burial will be in the JA Ranch Cemetery in Armstrong County by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Blasingame was born in Armstrong County and lived on the JA Ranch and in Clarendon before moving to Claude in 1954. She married Thomas Everett Blasingame in 1933 at Clarendon. He died in 1989. In her youth, she was an accomplished horsewoman and barrel racer. She worked on the JA Ranch and later was a legal secretary for her brother, Richard Morris, in Claude. She then served as city secretary and city manager for the city of Claude before her retirement. Mrs. Blasingame was a member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Clarendon. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Etheridge of Boise, Idaho; a son, Thomas Everett Blasingame Jr. of Hereford; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. John James McKinney Jr. FLOYDADA - John James McKinney Jr., 85, died Sunday, July 4, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wendell Horn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Floydada Cemetery by Moore-RoseWhite Funeral Home. Mr. McKinney was born in Floydada and was a lifelong resident. He married Orma Lorena Denison in 1938 at Floydada. He retired from Oden Chevrolet, where he was a body mechanic for many years. He then worked as a custodian at R.C. Andrews Elementary for 10 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 712. Survivors include his wife, Lorena McKinney; a son, James A. McKinney of Dallas; three sisters, Elizabeth Armstrong of Floydada, Virginia Snell of Lubbock and Margaret Burton of Lubbock; and a granddaughter. Opal Claybrook STINNETT - Opal Claybrook, 96, formerly of Stinnett, died Monday, July 5, 1999, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Sunset Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Lowe, assistant minister of St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Amarillo, officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home in Borger. Mrs. Claybrook was born in Montague County. She lived in Stinnett from 1923 to 1992, when she moved to Amarillo. She had lived at Clairmont Retirement Residence in Amarillo. She had taught for Stinnett Independent School District. She was a charter member of the Stinnett United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Claybrook, in 1974. Survivors include her daughter, Anna Beth King of Amarillo; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
