Boyd Stephens BORGER - Dr. L. Boyd Stephens, 88, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Faith Covenant Church with the Rev. Ken Sheppard, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Prayer in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Dr. Stephens was born in Gilmer and had lived in Borger since 1941. He was a dentist and a member of Faith Covenant Church and Borger Noon Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clare Stephens, in 1984. Survivors include his wife, Opal Stephens; a son, James Stephens of Dallas; a daughter, Laura McCarthy of Plano; two stepsons, David Denny of Borger and Jim Denny of Borger; a sister, Dot Caffey of Gladewater; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Paula Gonzales OLTON - Paula Gonzales, 63, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Norman Patton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home of Olton. Mrs. Gonzales was born and raised in Brownsville. In 1978, she moved to Olton where she was custodian and nursery keeper for First United Methodist Church. She married Alfredo Gonzales in 1959 at Brownsville. He died in 1991. Survivors include two sons, Alfredo Gonzales Jr. and Refugio Gonzales, both of Olton; three daughters, Regina Gonzales and Noelia Hernandez, both of Olton, and Petra Hernandez of Amarillo; a sister, Lucy Cross of Brownsville; two brothers, Everado Garcia and Augustine Flores III, both of Brownsville; and three grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Olton Cemetery, Drawer X, Olton, TX 79064; or Olton Ambulance Association, Drawer Q, Olton, TX 79064. Oma Ethel Probert BORGER - Oma Ethel Probert, 91, died Friday, June 4, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Ardmore, Okla., with the Rev. Wayne Fite officiating. Arrangements are by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Probert was born in Mineola and had lived in Borger since 1982. She had previously lived in Ardmore. She was a Baptist and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Probert Sr., in 1973. Survivors include a daughter, Charlsie Dolney of Borger; a son, Charles Probert Jr. of Ardmore; two granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter. Amarillo Wilburn E. Brown Wilburn E. "Webb" Brown, 72, of Amarillo, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery with Harry Whitlow of Southwest Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Brown was born in Amarillo. He was honorably discharged after serving in the Seabees during World War II. He retired after 41 years with Southwestern Bell Telephone. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, was a Mason and a Shriner. He also was a member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church. He married Mickey Lamb in 1983 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Suzanne Stalker of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Roberta Melton of Amarillo and Edie Meyer of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Ronnie Earl Brown of Amarillo; a sister, Millie Braun of Vernon; and nine grandchildren. The family will be at 1534 Stubbs. They request memorials be to High Plains Children's Home or the Shriners Traveling Fund for Burned and Crippled Children. Ronnie W. Upchurch Ronnie W. Upchurch, 50, of Amarillo, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Mr. Upchurch was born in Paris, Texas. He graduated from Caprock High School in 1966. He had worked for American Freight Ways for 10 years. He married Linda Fleming in 1967 in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Shannon Paredes and Marcie Wolfe, both of Amarillo; his parents, Curtis and Juanita Upchurch of Amarillo; a brother, Keith Upchurch of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Head of Amarillo; and four grandchildren, Zachary Wolfe, Ashley Wolfe, Alyssa Paredes and Alex Paredes, all of Amarillo. The family will be at 2912 S. Highland St. Dale Clay West Dale Clay West, 80, of Amarillo, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Clagg Funeral Home at Sulphur, Okla. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery at Roff, Okla. Mr. West was born in Homer, Okla., near Ada, Okla., and was raised around Merkel, Texas. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He moved to Amarillo in 1949. While living in Amarillo he worked at several jobs, including the Old Amarillo Smelter and at Plains Machinery Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1982. After retiring he moved to Roff. He was a Baptist and a member of the American Legion Post 279 and Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 10039. Mr. West returned to Amarillo in August. He married Pearl Hackworth in 1946 at Ada. She died June 18, 1998. He also was preceded in death by a son, Jerry West, in 1996. Survivors include two sons, Larry Dale West of Littleton, Colo., and Dusty West of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Harpold, 72, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Texico Cemetery with Willie Tolison officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Harpold was born in Des Moines and moved to Clovis in 1960. She was a homemaker and member of 16th and Pile Church of Christ. After her husband's retirement, they moved south of Clovis, where they farmed. She married John W. Harpold in 1956 at Aztec. He died in 1998. Survivors include a son, Michael Smith of Clovis; a daughter, Dodie Crawford of Clovis; two stepsons, John Harpold Jr. and Frank Harpold, both of Clovis; a stepdaughter, Jerry Helm of Sedan, Kan.; five sisters, Martha Block of Aztec, Bernice Evans of Albuquerque, Nettie Hughes of Long Beach, Wash., and Joy Warren and Alice Fay Maxwell, both of Maricopa, Calif.; four brothers, Sherman Burson of Belen, Myrel Burson of Santa Maria, Calif., Junior Burson of Grandview, Wash., and John Henry Burson of Beaverton, Md.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four greatgreat-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Plains Regional Medical Center Hospice. Mary Bennett CLOVIS, N.M. - Mary Bennett, 45, died Monday, May 31, 1999. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Monday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Gilmore, speaker. Mrs. Bennett was born in Clovis, where she was a lifetime resident. She was a local business owner. Survivors include her husband, Paul; a son, Cheyenne Zamora of the home; a daughter, Amber Zamora of the home; her mother, Josiphine Huereca of Garland, Texas; and brothers and sisters, Howard Huereca of Ozona, Texas, Aveline Huereca of Garland, Porfelia Nichols and Albert Huereca, both of Waterford, Mich., Lucia Sandoval of Pueblo, Colo., Ginny Picciotti of Orangeburg, N.Y., John Huereca of Adan, Turkey, and Carol Sandoval and Phyllis Huereca, both of Clovis. Elsewhere Winnie Grace Tanner LAMESA - Winnie Grace Tanner, 86, died Thursday, June 3, 1999. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Northside Baptist Church of Lamesa with the Rev. Ronnie Marley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 5 p.m. today in Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview by Branon Funeral Home of Lamesa. Mrs. Tanner was born in Vera. She was a teacher and postmaster at Flomot. In 1990, she moved from Olton to Lamesa where she was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She married Cecil Dale "Buster" Tanner in 1935 at Floydada. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989 and by a son, Darol Alton Tanner. Survivors include two daughters, Ilona Dee Smith of Canyon and Iva Janell Beck of Lamesa; a son, Russell Hughes Tanner of Burneyville, Okla.; a sister, Thelma Choulston of Vera; a brother, Jay Lyndal Hughes of Euless; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie Carruth LUBBOCK - Marie Carruth, 80, died Friday, June 4, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean with the Rev. James Martindale officiating. Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock. Mrs. Carruth was born in McLean and graduated from high school in 1936 where she was involved in athletics. In high school, she was named on the school's Balfour Treaty plaque as the best allaround student. In 1955, Mrs. Carruth moved to Lubbock. She had been a beautician for 52 years. Survivors include a son, Edward P. Carruth of North Richland Hills; a daughter, Michal A. Rader of Lubbock; two sisters, Vivian Grigsby of Pampa and Mildred Grigsby of Shawnee, Okla.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
