Valdez HEREFORD - Natalia G. Valdez, 84, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Rix Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mrs. Valdez was born in Eden and had lived in Hereford for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eulogia Valdez, two sons and a daughter. Survivors include three daughters, Nidia V. Rincon and Rosa Madrigal, both of Hereford, and Frances Avila of El Mirage, Ariz.; seven sons, Amado Torres of Waco, Manuel Valdez of Brownsville, Cain Valdez of Moses Lake, Wash., Jose "Pepe" Valdez and Felipe Valdez, both of Hereford, and Jaime Torres and Ascension Torres, both of Eola; and a sister, Maria Torres. Kathleen Cayler Lucas PERRYTON - Kathleen Cayler Lucas, 84, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, in Quitman. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Ochiltree County Cemetery with Charles Kelly officiating. Arrangements are by Lowe Funeral Home of Quitman. Mrs. Lucas was born in Higgins and moved to Quitman two years ago from Amarillo. In Hereford, she worked for Pioneer Gas Company until her retirement, was secretary for many years at Aikman Elementary School and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women, La Plata Study Club and Beta Sigma Phi in both Perryton and Hereford. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Cayler and Walter Lucas Jr. Survivors include a son, Walter Lucas III of Amarillo; a daughter, Donna Burks of Quitman; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Henry H. Bland HOWARDWICK - Henry H. Bland, 77, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Howardwick Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Powell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Bland was born in Kaufman County and lived in Afton for 25 years before moving to Howardwick 28 years ago. He served with the Army during World War II, was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Clarendon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7782. He was a farmer until his retirement and a charter member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Howardwick. He married Cora A. McAllister in 1943 at Lubbock. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Donald Bland of Groom and Kelly Bland of Floydada; two sisters, Dorothy Yates of Dimmitt and Billie Terry of Hart; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Frances Ardella Ford CLAUDE - Frances Ardella Ford, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Gerald Aalbers officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home Armstrong Chapel. Mrs. Ford was born in Park Springs and was a member of First Baptist Church. Her son, Billy Ray Ford, died in 1991. She married J.H. "Doc" Ford in 1934 in Chico. Survivors include her husband; a son, Winford Ford of Sterling City; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mattie Tomerlin PADUCAH - Mattie Tomerlin, 94, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Garden of Memories Cemetery with Vincent Sandlin officiating. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Tomerlin was born in Grapevine. She was a homemaker and had lived in Paducah since 1931. She married J.H. Tomerlin in 1923 at Alamosa, Colo. He died in 1962. Her son, Alan Tomerlin, died in 1946. Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Henry of Childress; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six greatgreat-grandchildren. Brian Justin Smith PERRYTON - Brian Justin Smith, 16, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Latham officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Brian was born in Euless and moved to Perryton from Amarillo. He was a sophomore at Perryton High School and was a member of the golf team, choir and cross country team. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Youth Group. Survivors include his mother, Becky Childers, and his stepfather, Dr. Manon E. Childers III of Perryton; his father, Joe Smith of Marks, Miss.; two brothers, Daniel Childers of Perryton and Jarod Smith of Marks; a sister, Amy Tippett of Irving; grandparents, Janene Hawkins of Amarillo, Whit and Eve Childers of Perryton, and E.B. and Ella Mae Smith of Marks; and his great-grandmother, Faye Hughes of Hot Springs, Ark. Amarillo Harry Lee Smith Sr. Harry Lee Smith Sr, 83, a former Amarillo resident, of Winslow, Ariz., died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, 315 E. Fifth Ave., with the Revs. Leroy Jones, of United Pentecostal Church of Allison, and Travis Starnes, of Pentecostal Church of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born in Carnegie, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo from 1961 until moving to Winslow in 1996. In 1979, he retired from Santa Fe Railway. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 855 and United Pentecostal. He married Jessie Sanford in 1940 at Canadian. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mildred Skelton of Gordo, Ala., and Glenna E. Frazier of Bullhead, Ariz.; a son, Harry L. Smith Jr., of Winslow; two brothers, John Smith and Robert Smith of Apache, Okla.; three sisters, Dora Martin, Audrey Donaho and Gracey Tipswork, all of Apache; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Thelma A. Morehead Thelma A. Morehead, 91, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity Memorial Park Cemetery in Big Spring with Mr. Rick Cunningham, of Big Spring, officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Morehead was born in Stonewall, Okla., graduated from Norman High School at Norman, Okla., in 1926 and attended the University of Oklahoma. In 1929, she moved to Gageby, where she served as the Postmistress and owned and operated the General Store. In 1936, she moved to Big Spring, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church for 45 years, taught Sunday school for many years and was a homemaker. She was also active with Gideons International. In 1991, she moved to Amarillo, where she was a resident of Park Place Towers and a member of First Baptist Church. She married Gilbert "Gibby" Morehead in 1927 at Okmulgee, Okla. He died in 1978. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Morehead, in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Doris McCullough of Amarillo; a son, Robert Earl Morehead of Houston; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Viewing will be from noon until 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon Tuesday at the funeral home in Amarillo and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Big Spring. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Amarillo; or Gideon's International. Willie R. Bradley Willie R. Bradley, 75, of Amarillo, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, in Pueblo, Colo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. John McClean officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Mr. Bradley was born in Plymouth and moved to Amarillo after graduating from Texas Tech University in 1949. He served with the Navy Air Corps during World War II and worked for Southwestern Public Service Company for almost 38 years as an electrical engineer. He was past chairman of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers IEEE, a member of the Golden Spread Fly Fisherman's Association and third vice president of the Texas Plains Girl Scout Council. He married Billie L. Pruett in 1943 at Littlefield. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Bettye Bradley of New York and Sammye Willis of Houston; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Oklahoma Doris Marie Hegwood Fick BOISE CITY, Okla. - Doris Marie Hegwood Fick, 76, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Cimarron Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Boise City Cemetery. Mrs. Fick was born in Bridgeton, N.J., and graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1941. She married Lester Hegwood in 1945 at Elkton, Md., and they moved to the family farm at Boise City. He died in 1992. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jason Hegwood. She married Carl Fick in 1996 at Texhoma and they moved to Goodwell. He died in 1998. Survivors include three sons, Gary Hegwood of Cortez, Colo., Spencer Hegwood of Springfield, Colo., and Wesley Hegwood of Goodwell; a brother, Ed Perry of Northfield, N.J.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity and may be left in care of the funeral home.
