Yocom CABALLO, N.M. - Emmitt R. Yocom, 74, a former resident of Tucumcari, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Truth or Consequences. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mr. Yocom was born in Hope, Ark., and was a longtime Tucumcari resident. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, retiring as an engineer in 1982. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Oletha; three daughters, Linda Yocom of Caballo, Phyllis Mizioch of Phoenix, Ariz., and Connie Falls of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; three sons, Monty Yocom of Phoenix, Ronald Yocom of Abilene, Texas, and Gary Yocom of Anthony; a brother, Lloyd Yocom of Tucson; two sisters, Ruth Shipley of Truth or Consequences and Dovie Yocom of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren;; and 17 great-grandchildren. Reynold F. Brandt TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Reynold F. "Nick" Brandt, 90, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Cain, a Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery with Masonic rites by Tucumcari Lodge 27 AF&AM. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home. Mr. Brandt was born in Robstown, Texas, and had been a resident of Tucumcari since 1976. He was a retired automobile mechanic. He was a member of the Tucumcari Masonic Lodge 27 and of Crystal Lake Masonic Lodge 34 of Colorado. He was a Past Noble Grand of Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Gunnison, Colo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Reynold F. Brandt Jr. of Stow, Ohio, and Robert W. Brandt of Amarillo; a daughter, Elizabeth Zimmer of Stratford, Texas; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing from 9:30 a.m. today until noon Monday. Edwin Voeller TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Edwin Voeller, 64, died Thursday, March 4, 1999. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Cain, Baptist minister, officiating. Arrangements and cremation are by Dunn Funeral Home. Mr. Voeller was born in Esmunds, N.D., and was a veteran of the Army. A Tucumcari resident since 1977, he had been a truck driver for Yellow Freight Trucking Co. Survivors include his wife, Sharon; four children, Edwin Voeller and Laurie Johnson, both of Sacramento, Calif., Jim McCord of Roswell and Tammy Fenner of Tucumcari; his mother, Lena Bosch of North Dakota; a brother; three sisters; and five grandchildren. Cletus Lewis CLOVIS, N.M. - Cletus "Lou" Lewis, 69, died Thursday, March 4, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in The Chapel with Troy Smothermon, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe Cemetery with military honors conducted by Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Lewis was born in Oakland, Md. He moved to Clovis in 1971 and retired from the Air Force in 1974 as a master sergeant. He served in Vietnam and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3280. He also was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6, American Legion Post 25 and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He married Joy Evenden in 1954 at England. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Denise Long of Ridgecrest, Calif., Karen Harcrow of Clovis and Kim Narigon of Redondo Beach, Calif.; a son, Philip Lewis of South Riding, Va.; two sisters, Esther Hiser and Mabel Sisler of Maryland; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Jim Wilkerson officiating. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Morgan was born in Poolville, Texas, and was a Clovis and Texico resident for most of his life. Williams VERNON - Woodrow G. "Woody" Williams, 85, died Thursday, March 4, 1999. Mr. Williams was born in Quitman and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was retired from the maintenance and repair department of General Dynamics. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. in Shooks Chapel Cemetery in Sulphur Springs. Mrs. Hall was born in Sulphur Springs. She was preceded in death by a son, Frank Maurice Dossett. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1970 and attended Texas Tech University. He previously owned and operated Caprock Memorials and was a partner and insurance agent in Daysmen Financial. He was a member of the President's Club of National Travelers Life Insurance Co., Lubbock Life Underwriters Association, Football Booster Club, and a member and past officer of Coronado High School Boy's Basketball Booster Club. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and taught the Senior High Sunday school class, and a member of the New Visions Sunday school class and of the Christian Men's Fellowship. He married Terry Linn in 1973. She was a former executive secretary for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline, and a member of First Baptist Church. In 1937, she married her first husband, Melvin C. Swafford. He died in 1957. Survivors include her husband, Ray Leaming; a son, Larry Swafford of Amarillo; two daughters, Melva Davis and Shirley McMenamy, both of Amarillo; a stepson, Mike Leaming of Houston; a stepdaughter, Karen Farrow of Liberal; three brothers, Wayne Clodfelter and Cline Clodfelter, both of Liberal, and J.R. Born in Chico, Mrs. Ford moved to Spearman 58 years ago from Newcastle. She was a homemaker and member of Eastern Star and First Baptist Church. She married George Ford in 1943 at Newcastle. He died in 1982. After her marriage, she and her husband lived in Dalhart and Bueyeros. She was postmistress in Bueyeros from 1961 until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bueyeros. She married Leo T. Garcia in 1949. Mr. Cruz was born in Robstown and moved to Friona 40 years ago. He operated a service station for many years. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. He married Janie Guerra in 1959 at Muleshoe. Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe Cruz of Friona; seven daughters, Norma Mendoza and Velma Escalante, both of Canyon, and Gloria Aragon, Diana Perez, Yoland Cruz, Sally Cruz and Roxy Cruz, all of Friona; a brother, Joe A. Dorothy McSwain PLAINVIEW - Dorothy McSwain, 85, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church Chapel with Dr. Max Browning, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. McSwain grew up near Winfield, Kan., received a teaching certificate after graduating from Southeastern Oklahoma College, Enid, and in 1935, moved to Plainview and taught school. She owned and operated the Granada Gift Shop, moved to San Diego in 1996 and to Dallas in 1997. Having established the Girl Scout program in Plainview, she was past president of the Girl Scout Board, a member of the Junior Service League, DAR, Plainview Country Club and the Plainview Cemetery Association. She was a Methodist. In 1933, she married Chester E. McSwain. He died in 1985. Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Franklin of San Diego; a son, S. Richard McSwain of Dallas; two brothers, Earnest Gentry of Plainview and Jim Gentry of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Margaret Golden of Delta, Utah; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. Elster A. McLeod LOCKNEY - Elster A. McLeod, 97, died Friday, March 5, 1999. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. H.S. Calahan Jr., retired minister, officiating, and the Rev. Harold Abney, pastor, assisting. Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mr. McLeod was born in Collin County where he attended schools.In 1924 he moved to Floyd County. He was a retired farmer and a member of First Baptist Church. He married Myriam Calahan in 1924. She died in 1967. He married his second wife, Helen Floyd, in 1975. She died in 1993. He was also preceded in death by a son, Derrel McLeod, in 1936. Survivors include a daughter, Wynona Quebe of Lockney; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Jerry Wayne Taylor PAMPA - Jerry Wayne Taylor, 49, died Friday, March 5, 1999. He retired in 1990 as owner and operator of Sexton's Grocery and Market, was a veteran of the Navy and a member of Central Baptist Church. In 1946, he married Clara Jane Weatherred. Sharp, 71, of Amarillo, died Friday, March 5, 1999. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Dan Melton officiating. He retired in 1993 as a self-employed heavy equipment operator. He was of the Baptist faith. He married Mickey Sharp in 1947 at Mississippi. She died in 1989. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon. Dr. Ballard was born in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1936. He was a 1943 graduate of Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery. He served as chief of staff of Southwest Osteopathic Hospital from 1980 until 1981 and was president of the Professional Staff at the hospital in 1970. Dr. Ballard was a member of the Atlas Club, the house of delegates of the Texas Osteopathic Association, a life member of the American Osteopathic Association and the Texas Osteopathic Association. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and a charter member of Tascosa Country Club. An avid golfer, Dr. Ballard attended the Top of Texas Tournaments and Senior Top of Texas Tournaments in Pampa. He was a member of the Hole-in-One Club in Pompano Beach, Fla. He married Nancy Horney in 1969 at Georgia. She died in September. Survivors include four daughters, Donna Hamilton of Katy, Bonnie Ross and Billie Vanderford, both of Amarillo, and Connie Dismuke of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Ernestine Goller of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, George Hume Ballard of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. For 45 years, she was a receptionist for a dental office. She was a member of Southeast Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She married Charles Sharpe in 1940 at Paris. He died in 1989.
