Hayes Evans Moreland The Rev. Hayes Evans Moreland, 87, formerly of Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Austin. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Children's Chapel with the Right Rev. Scott Field Bailey, retired bishop of West Texas, presiding. The Rev. William D. Nix Jr., rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, will be the celebrant. Assisting will be the Rev. Andrew D. Parker and the Rev. Elizabeth W. Parker, associate rectors of St. Andrew's. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. The Rev. Moreland was born in Cedar Hill. He attended San Angelo College and graduated from the University of Texas in 1935 with a bachelor's degree. He received his doctor of divinity at Virginia Theological Seminary in 1942 and was ordained into the Episcopal ministry that year. His first assignment in the ministry was as curate of Christ Episcopal Church at San Antonio, serving there in 1942 and 1943. The Rev. Moreland served for four years as priest in charge of a mission field that included St. Paul's Episcopal Church at Brady; Calvary Episcopal Church, Menard; St. James Episcopal Church, Fort McKavett; and St. John's Episcopal Church at Sonora. The Rev. Moreland became rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Amarillo in 1957, serving until retirement in 1975. While at St. Andrew's, he assisted in the founding of St. Peter's Parish, which began in 1958 as a parochial mission of St. Andrew's. The Rev. Moreland served on the Potter-Randall Committee on Aging, the Amarillo Council on Alcoholism, the board of directors of Goodwill Industries, the board of the Amarillo Symphony and the Amarillo Little Theatre, the Potter-Randall Child Welfare Board, the Potter-Randall Citizens' Committee and the United Way Budget Committee. After retirement, he served as supply priest at St. Mary's Church, Woodford, London, England, in 1976 and 1977 and at numerous other churches from 1977 until 1994. He married Mary Head in 1934 at Austin. Survivors include his wife; a son, Daniel G. Moreland of Austin; and two grandchildren. Parker, 78, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage, with Keith Boutwell, chaplain of Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, officiating. Anatomical donation was made to Texas Tech Health Science Center at Lubbock. Mr. Parker was born in Montgomery County, Tenn. He had been a seaman in the Navy. He worked for R.B. Lester Co. at Clarksville for 35 years and for Pantex for 13 years. He retired in 1993. He was a member of a Methodist church in Tennessee. He married Ruth Belcher in 1939 at Hopkinsville, Ky. Survivors include his wife; a son, P.W. Parker of Amarillo; three sisters, Pearl Mayfield, Maidel Gilliam and Martha Morrison, all of Clarksville; two brothers, Elliott Edgar Parker and Oscar Eugene Parker, both of Clarksville; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Holland Joe R. Holland, 72, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Holland was born in Memphis and served in the Army during World War II. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone and was a Protestant. He was a member of American Legion and Panhandle Pickin' Times Club. He married Joyce Allen in 1968 at Amarillo. William Trask Sr. William "Bill" Trask Sr., 68, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in N.S. Mr. Trask was born in Ramona, Okla. He served in the Korean War and retired from the Air Force. In 1971, he moved to Amarillo from Denver. In 1980, Mr. Trask retired as a driver for Purolator Armored Inc. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Pampa and a Baptist. He married Yvonne Bell in 1975. She died in 1996. He also was precededindeath by a son, Victor Trask, and a daughter, Karen Trask. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Montgomery of Pampa and Kathy Harper of Skellytown; a son, William Von Trask Jr., of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Debbie Murray and Vickie Short, both of California; and a stepson, Bill Bell of California. Glennie Downs Glennie Downs, 106, of Amarillo, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney with Loyd Crawford officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Downs was born near McKinney, where her father farmed. She moved to Wheeler County in 1925. After her husband died, she made a living by caring for older people in their homes. She returned to McKinney in 1947, moved to Shamrock in 1975 and moved to Amarillo in 1986. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She married Aymett Downs in 1916. He died in 1946. Survivors include four daughters, Etna Thompson and Leetece Pate, both of Amarillo, Dorothy Powell of Pampa and Ruth Head of Saginaw; two sons, Audrey Downs of Shamrock and Glenn Downs of El Paso; seven grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Oklahoma Humberto Isidoro Chacon BEAVER, Okla. - Humberto Isidoro Chacon, 14, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Forgan High School with Terry Fox officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery in Beaver by Clark Funeral Service. Mr. Chacon was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and had been a resident of Beaver County for 10 years. A seventh-grader in the Forgan schools, he played sports and was a member of the Baptist Church and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Survivors include his parents, Angie Marie Chacon of Forgan and Oscar Chacon of Chihuahua; a brother, Orlando Chacon of Forgan; and a sister, Star Chacon of Forgan. The family suggests memorials be to Humberto Chacon Trust Fund. Elsewhere James Lawton Summar LANCASTER, Pa. - James Lawton Summar, 80, a former Amarillo resident, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul T. Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Conestoga Memorial Park by Fred F. Groff Inc, 234 W. Orange St., Lancaster, Pa. 17603. Mr. Summar was born in Florence, Ala., and raised in the Amarillo area. He earned a bachelor's degree from Millersville State College in 1961 and a master's degree from West Chester State University in 1971. In 1981, Mr. Summar retired after 20 years as a world cultures teacher at Hempfield High School. He also had served as an adviser to Epilogue, the school's yearbook. Mr. Summar retired in 1958 after 20 years with the Marine Corps, where he was a master sergeant in the 2nd Marine Division. He received the Purple Heart and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with Combat Star. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lancaster; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7294 at Millersville; state, local and national educational associations and Travelers Protective Association, where he had served as president and state welfare chairman. He had been married to Alverta F. "Verta" Luechauer for 56 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald J. Summar. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Yvonne S. Donley of Orlando, Fla., and Eyla R. Summar of Millersville; a brother, Melvin Summar of Bella Vista, Ark.; and a sister, Edith Bray of Amarillo. William Thomas Ingerton LEXINGTON, Ky. - William Thomas Ingerton, 74, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Lexington with the Rev. Michael Delk and the Rev. Mary Purcell officiating. Arrangements are by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home of Lexington. A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Ingerton graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law. He owned W.T. Ingerton Law Office and was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife, Helen Roach Ingerton; a son, William Rhodes Ingerton of California; two daughters, Phyllis Sheridan Rapier of California and Helen I. Harasmisz of Florida; a brother, Rhodes Rankin Ingerton of Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. in Lakeview Cemetery with the Rev. Glen Switzer, interim pastor of the Eleventh Street Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors of Shamrock. Mrs. Hall was born in Ector and moved to Memphis in 1919. In 1979, she moved to Shamrock, where she was a member of Eleventh Street Baptist Church. She married D.C. Hall Jr. in 1932 at Lakeview. He died in 1976. Survivors include a son, Raymond Hall of Shamrock; a daughter, Wilma Newman of Irving; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Sister Mary Alexandra Scheinecker PANHANDLE - Sister Mary Alexandra Scheinecker, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today in Our Lady of the Angels Chapel in Sancta Maria Chapel by Monsignor M.J. Matthiesen and the Rev. Ray Crosier. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo. Sister Scheinecker was born in Veitsau, Austria, and moved to Panhandle in 1956. A Catholic nun, she served in Dalhart from 1992 until 1994. She also was a seamstress. Survivors include a sister, Margarete Tobisch of Austria; and a nephew and niece, both of Austria. Mrs. Abel was born in Weber Falls, Okla., and had lived in Borger for 11 years. She was a housewife and a member of First Christian Church at Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Abel, in 1979 and a daughter, Mary Schnell, in 1993. Survivors include a sister, Ruby Custer of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Billy J. Gerber DUMAS - Billy J. Gerber, 56, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999. He was a drill operator and member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He married Suzanne Gibson in 1965 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Gerber of Borger; four daughters, Krista Smith of Silverton, Lori Forbus and Jennifer Miranda, both of Amarillo, and Jessica Gerber of the home; his mother, Francis Gerber of Umbarger; four brothers, Tom Gerber and Kenneth Gerber, both of Dalhart, and Don Gerber and Glenn Gerber, both of Amarillo; and five sisters, Romilda Friemel of Hereford, Janice Mulloy of Canyon, Carolyn Wieck of Hartley, Linda Moore of Amarillo and Sharon Gerber of Austin. Versie Collie McLEAN - Versie Collie, 91, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Lamb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Martindale officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Mrs. Collie was born in Hess, Okla., and lived in McLean for most of her life. She owned and operated 20 Trees Motor Court and later owned the laundry in McLean. She was a Baptist. Survivors include two sons, Eddie Grigsby of McLean and Norman Grigsby of Amarillo; a daughter, Dorothy Ritter of New Braunfels; a sister, Venita Hebden of Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing until service time at the funeral home. Marie Stricker PERRYTON - Marie Stricker, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999. Mrs. Stricker was born in Woodward County, Okla. She grew up in the FargoTangier area and resided in Woodward, Darrouzett and Arizona before moving to Perryton in 1994. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Stricker, in 1980. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Smith of Perryton and Allene Reyman of Phoenix; two sons, Ron Stricker of Phoenix and Harlan Stricker of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Dave Hanshu of Shattuck, Okla., and Carl Hanshu of Darrouzett; a sister, Olynda Beck of Perryton; seven grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren. Muffet Sims Merrell CLARENDON - Muffet Sims Merrell, 97, of Overland Park, Kan., died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999. Private services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories in Clarendon. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery. The surviving member of the pioneer family who helped establish Clarendon, Mrs. Merrell was born and raised there. She attended Kidd Key College and became a music instructor. In 1968, she moved to Kansas City, Kan., and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Mrs. Merrell published writings after studies in professional writing at Texas Tech University, University of Oklahoma, University of Kansas and Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she spent many winters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie B. Merrell, in 1953. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Leon A. Triggs Jr.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a greatgreat-grandchild. Tracy James Grand DIMMITT - Tracy James Grand, 19, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Rhodes, pastor, the Rev. Randy Gressett, youth minister, and the Rev. Rusty Dickerson, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park in Dimmitt by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mr. Grand was born and raised in Dimmitt. In 1997, he graduated from Dimmitt High School where he served as FHA regional officer, peer assisted leadership, student council member and BPA officer. He was named Best All Around as a senior, to the National Honor Society and received the American Legion award. Mr. Grand received the Beta Zeta Upsilon Scholarship, Cerestar USA Dimmitt, Inc., Scholarship, Methodist Church Scholarship, academic award and West Texas A&M University Residence Hall Scholarship. Mr. Grand was an athletic trainer at Dimmitt High School, for summer athletic programs at WTAMU and a referee for intramural sports. He was a sophomore at WTAMU and a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his parents, Gary and Linda Grand of Dimmitt; a sister, Tara Grand of Dimmitt; and his grandparents, Curtis Grand of Dimmitt and Rosie Hood of Ruidosa Downs, N.M. Mrs. Bradley was born in Desdemona and had lived in Dumas since 1965. She previously lived in Sherman County. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church. She married James Bradley in 1950 at Big Spring. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kerry Bradley and Savoy Bradley, both of Amarillo; her mother, Joy P. Patterson of Chickasha, Okla.; a sister, Shirley Sharpe of Chickasha; and two grandchildren. The family will be at 501 Phillips in Dumas.
