McLain CHILDRESS - Dorothy E. McLain, 72, died Saturday, June 5, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Johnny Henson officiating. Burial will be in the Childress Cemetery. Miss McLain was born in Childress. She was the owner/operator of Dock's Western Wear. She began learning the shoe repair business at the age of 17 from Dock Blakenship, eventually buying his part of the business and expanding into Dock's Western Wear. She was named Childress Woman of the Year in 1990. She often donated boots and merchandise to numerous children's homes. Survivors include three sisters, Lois Conway of Childress, Betty Wilhite of Wichita Falls, and Christine Henson of Paris, Texas; and two brothers, Bobby G. McLain of Douglas, Ga., and Jerry McLain of Stephenville. R.L. Austin BORGER - R.L. Austin, 68, died Monday, June 7, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Westlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Gillmore, pastor of Riverview Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Austin was born in Beckham County, Okla., and had lived in Borger for 31 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II stationed in Japan. He also served in the Korean War. He was a production manager for Cominco, retiring in 1984. He also worked at Phillips Petroleum at Cactus and Beatrice, Neb., for 13 years. He married Beverly Nickle in 1950 at Kingfisher, Okla. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Micheal Austin, in 1995. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patti Wagner of El Reno, Okla., and Janet Gao of Wichita, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. LaNell Osborn PERRYTON - LaNell Osborn, 51, died Monday, June 7, 1999. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Harrol Waterbury and Merle Davis officiating. Cremation was handled by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Osborn was born in Shattuck, Okla., and moved to the Perryton area 30 years ago from Shattuck. She was selfemployed with a cleaning service. She married Tommy Osborn in 1979 at Perryton. Survivors include her husband; a son, Shannon Bruce of Flower Mound; three brothers, Roy Bruce, James Bruce and Jack Bruce, all of Shattuck; three stepdaughters, Tracy Kennedy and Tina Osborn, both of Fairview, Okla., and Tammy Moore of Enid, Okla.; and three granddaughters. The body will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. until service time today at Brown Memorial Chapel in Stinnett. Elisabeth Dickens PADUCAH - Elisabeth Dickens, 82, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah with the Rev. Jeff Utter, pastor of First United Methodist Church and Mark Tang officiating. Arrangements are by Siegler Funeral Home of Paducah. Mrs. Dickens was born in Henderson County and had been a Cottle County resident since 1920. During World War II, she taught instrument repair at Tinker Air Base. Later, she operated a Borden's milk delivery route for several years. With her husband, Mrs. Dickens farmed in Dunlap community and operated a general store there. She moved to Paducah in 1976 and was a member of the Methodist Church. She married Mike C. Dickens in 1934 at Paducah. He died in 1996. Survivors include a son, C.D. Dickens of Paducah; three nieces; and a nephew. He was a member of Knights of Pythia and the United Baptist Church. He married Annie Mae Grayson in 1931 at Atoka County. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Grayson, and a son, Elmer Grayson. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pearlene Martin of Amarillo; two sisters, Lovie Whitely of Oklahoma City and Queen Landrum of Portland, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to United Baptist Church Scholarship Fund. Oklahoma Ivory P. Edwards TULSA, Okla. - Ivory P. Edwards, 56, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, in Amarillo. Hughes, Amarillo. Mrs. Edwards was born in Hemphill, Texas. She was living in Tulsa and had been visiting in Amarillo. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Elsewhere Carroll McClure LUBBOCK - Carroll McClure, 55, a former Amarillo resident, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at Lubbock. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the sanctuary of Trinity Church at Lubbock, with the Rev. Dan Carter of First United Methodist Church of Morton and the Rev. Paul Jantzen of Trinity Church, officiating. His body was donated to Texas Tech University School of Medicine. Mr. McClure was born in Plainview and moved to Amarillo at an early age. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1962. He entered the Air Force in 1967, serving in Spain, Germany, Japan, Hawaii and Greenland. He also served terms at Holoman AFB at Alamogordo, N.M., and Reese AFB at Lubbock, retiring in 1988 with the rank of master sergeant. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked in the records section of the Lubbock Veterans Association Clinic until March. He earned a degree in business from Wayland Baptist College while on active duty with the Air Force at Lubbock. He was a deacon at Trinity Church. He married Becky Carter in 1967. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rachel Cervantez of Plainview and Carrie McClure of Dallas; and two granddaughters. "Si" Simons, 73, a former Dumas, Texas, resident, died Monday, June 7, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Spring Creek Baptist Church at Willow, Okla. Burial will be in the Willow Cemetery by People Co-Op of Lone Wolf, Okla. Mr. Simons was born in Kenefic, Okla., and was raised around the Willow/Ocina areas before moving to Dumas in 1942. He was a World War II veteran of the European and Pacific theaters. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1983. He married Lavita Brinkman in 1943 at Altus, Okla. She died in 1987. He married Nita Gay Franklin Martin in 1991 at Dumas. Survivors include his wife, Nita; two sons, James Rodney Simons of Borger, Texas, and Gary Lee Martin of Elk City, Okla.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Wilma Mary Lantz IOWA CITY, Iowa - Wilma Mary Lantz, 83, died Monday, June 7, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Thursday and a parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence Smith officiating. Mrs. Lantz was born in Whittemore and graduated from St. Patrick's High School. For many years, she owned and operated Wilma's Beauty Shop and the Towncrest Beauty Shop. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where she was involved in establishing the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She married Wilbur "Webb" Lantz in 1938 at Iowa City. He died in 1984. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Gray of Amarillo, Mary Jo Rocca of Jefferson City, Mo., and Cathy Hogan of Iowa City; a son, Marty of Phoenix; a sister, Norma Gatens of San Antonio; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors from 3 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established. Iva Martin LITTLEFIELD - Iva Martin, 77, died Monday, June 7, 1999. Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park by Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield. Mrs. Martin was born in Spur and moved to Littlefield in 1948. From 1951 until 1971, she was lunch room supervisor for the Littlefield Independent School District. She was a member of Crescent Park Church of Christ and the Ladies Bible Class. She married Forrest Martin in 1941 at Spur. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Sandra Martin of Amarillo, Sheila Stephenson of Georgetown and Shelley Sailsbury of Shallowater; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Amarillo Hobart Cody Yandell Hobart Cody Yandell, 81, of Amarillo, died Monday, June 7, 1999. Cremation was handled by N.S. Mrs. Daily was born in Atoka and raised in rural Hardeman and Childress counties. She moved to Amarillo in 1956 and to El Paso in 1965. She returned to Amarillo in 1974. She was a homemaker. She married Robert R. Daily in 1939 at Eldorado, Okla. He died in January, 1998. Survivors include a son, Robert R. Daily Jr. of Amarillo; a brother, Jack C. Mrs. Dixon was born in Childress County and graduated from Wellington High School in 1929. She moved to Amarillo 55 years ago. Mrs. Dixon was a member of Wild Rose Lodge No. 312 and was past president from 1976-79. In 1998, she received her 50-year pin. She also was a 15-plus year member of the Queen of the Plains Rebekah Lodge No. 276 where she was past noble grand. She married Tommy Dixon in 1992 at Amarillo. In 1976, she married Roy G. Watkins who died in 1985. She also was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Watkins, in 1996. She was a member of St. Laurence Cathedral. She married Joseph E. Martin in 1935 at Hammond. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979 and by a daughter, Judy Bulin, in 1997. Mrs. Farmer was born in Tulsa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1952. She attended Texas Tech University. In 1958, she moved to Amarillo from Midland. Mrs. Farmer retired in 1983 as a secretary for Amarillo College. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a volunteer at High Plains Baptist Hospital. She married James L. Farmer in 1954 at Odessa. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Kerry Lynn O'Neill of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Lou Ann Fowler and Amy Marie Leach, both of Amarillo; a sister, Barbara Walker of Ardmore, Okla.; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Tuttle was born in Madill, Okla., and was a longtime Amarillo resident. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1941. She was a philanthropist and a member of the Amarillo Botanical Gardens, Amarillo Senior Citizens and Golden Kiwanis. Survivors include two daughters, Addie Lee of Amarillo and Val Adams of Conroe; a sister, Dorothy DeGray of Mission Viejo, Calif.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Brooks Funeral Home Chapel in Canyon with the Rev. Kevin Deckard and Pat Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mr. Jones was born in Hess, Okla., and was raised in Altus, Okla. In 1929, he graduated from West Texas State Teachers College. He taught in Dalhart, Jumbo and Hart and worked as a carpenter-cabinet maker. In 1942, he joined the Navy and served during World War II in Company A, 23rd Construction Battalion (Seabees) in Hawaii and the Aleutians. After the war, Mr. Jones taught English at Hereford Junior High and started building boats. He earned his master's degree from WT in 1955. In 1967, he retired from teaching but continued to work as a cabinet maker. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canyon. Survivors include two nephews, Dr. Mitchell Jones of Amarillo and Dr. Marshall Jones of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grand nieces and nephews; and 11 great-grand nieces and nephews. Survivors include two sons, Stanley Baskevic of Clovis and David Baskevic of Lebanon, Maine. Roy T. Hutchison TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Roy T. Hutchison, 78, died Saturday, June 5, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Grady Methodist Church at Grady with George Irving and Hermon Ragland officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at the Grady Cemetery. Mr. Hutchison was born in Grady and attended schools in Grady. He moved to Alaska in the early 1950s, where he worked as a heavy-equipment operator for Heavy Equipment Operators International Union 302. He retired in 1984 and moved to Tucumcari in 1990. He attended the San Jon Assembly of God Church at San Jon. He was a pilot. Survivors include two sons, Warren Hutchison of Wasilla, Alaska, and Coleman Hutchison of Anchorage, Alaska; four daughters, Kathryn Mooney and Marjorie F. Hawkins, both of Grady, Sandra L. Hutchison of Clovis and Nancy Lee Beavers of Farwell; two sisters, Viva Coffman and Nancy Sells, both of Tucumcari; a brother, Harold Hutchison of Tucumcari; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing until noon Thursday at Dunn Funeral Home at Tucumcari. Mary Lelah Reid LOGAN, N.M. - Mary Lelah Reid, 90, died Monday, June 7, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Logan First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Richardson, a Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot of the Logan Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mrs. Reid was born in Texoma, Okla., and had been a longtime resident of the Logan community. She was a member of the Logan Methodist Church and was a Past Worthy Matron of Bethel Chapter 15 Order of Eastern Star. For many years, she drove a school bus for the Logan school system. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia R. Smith, in 1989. Survivors include her husband, Harry; a son, Bob Reid of Dickinson, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bob Civil, minister of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Austin was born in Puerto Canyon. She attended Puerto and Plain schools, graduating from Forrest High School. In 1930, she attended Highland University at Las Vegas and taught at Norton School for one year. During World War II, she worked as a civilian at Clovis Air Base. In 1945, she returned to Tucumcari where she worked as a bookkeeper for First National Bank for 29 years. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, taught Sunday School and served as church treasurer. Her first marriage was to Robert E. Srote in 1933. He died in 1945. She married C.A. Austin in 1976. They lived in Lubbock, Texas until his death in 1991. Survivors include four daughters, Bobbie Dicinson of Clovis, Connie Srote of New Braunfels, Texas, Nancy Ayler of Tucumcari and Linda Srote of Albuquerque; a brother, Roy R. Griggs of Austin; four sisters, Floy Lentfer of Homedale, Idaho, Emma Daniel of Taft, Calif., Lois Wise of Bakersfield, Calif., and Dorothy Gill of Tucumcari; eight grandchildren; and four grandchildren. Viewing will be from this afternoon until time of services Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to Quay County Library or a favorite charity.
